Exhausted and demoralised NHS workers are being forced to take on side jobs as delivery drivers or turn to food banks as they struggle to get by on their current pay.
Frontline workers have slammed the Government's proposed pitiful 1% pay rise as "absolutely disgusting" and "insulting", saying they would take home an extra £3.50 or less per week.
For some that barely covers the cost of getting to and from work in a single day.
NHS workers have told the Mirror they are prepared to go on strike as this offer is the latest slap in the face after a decade of austerity that saw them fall behind and a coronavirus pandemic in which they continue to risk their lives.

An NHS colleague, referring to the 850-plus healthcare workers who have died during the pandemic, said: "The Government clearly didn’t value our lives and they don’t value us alive, either."
They have shared their harrowing pandemic stories, from seeing patients die on overwhelmed wards to helping the rising number of traumatised NHS staff who are turning to the service for help with their mental health or long Covid symptoms.
They work unpaid overtime to complete tasks or help out when it is busy and don't take breaks because staff shortages mean there isn't enough cover.
They fear the 1% offer will just drive more to quit.
As unions warn of strikes as a last resort, the Royal College of Nursing announced it will set up a £35 million fund to support industrial action.
Health minister Nadine Dorries gave a series of media interviews defending the Government's position, saying nurses have received a 12% increase in pay over the last three years and the average nurse's salary is around £34,000.
However, frontline workers have branded these claims "lies".
They hit out at the "hypocrisy" of Boris Johnson, whose life was saved by the NHS when he battled Covid-19 last year, his Government, saying their earlier support, which included clapping on doorsteps, now seems fake.
Unions say NHS workers deeserve a pay rise as high as 15 per cent after being ignored.
