Britain is set for five days of snow after being blanketed in up to 10 inches of the white stuff already this week with new snow and ice warnings in place.

As temperatures plummeted by -10C in an Arctic blast, the Met Office has now warned heavy snow will continue until midday on Friday in parts of England and Scotland.

The so-called Beast From the East 2 is set to continue bringing snow blizzards and freezing winds across the UK today and there were four severe weather warnings in place until 10.38am, when the Met Office updated its forecast to include a fifth.

Lasting from midnight tomorrow until 12noon on Friday, and covering North East England and much of eastern and central Scotland, it warns of potential snow chaos for the rest of the working week in parts of the UK.

Today, snow has covered the entire eastern side of England and Scotland and the east of Northern Ireland.
