Republican presidential frontrunner Herman Cain wants to be clear: He does not think Tiger Woods should run for President in 2016.
Cain wrote a column five years ago saying Woods would be a great candidate for the GOP, but explained it on Sunday by saying it was a joke.
“That was a joke, okay? Tiger – I – that was a joke,” said Cain on Sunday, according to CNN. “Americans got to learn how to have a sense of humor, okay?”
The article laid out rationale for why Woods – then at the pinnacle of his accomplishments and popularity – would be an appealing candidate for the highest office in the land.
“Tiger will be 40 years old in 2016,” Cain wrote for a website he operated. “The Republican Party should begin grooming him now for a run at the White House. His personal attributes and accomplishments on the golf course point to a candidate who will be a problem solver, not a politician.”
Obviously the public perception of Woods as a professional athlete, much less as an elected official, has changed significantly.
