UFC legend Anderson Silva has called out Conor McGregor for a historic super-fight.
The news comes after McGregor praised the Brazilian on Twitter, calling him “the greatest of all time.”
Silva took to Instagram to show respect to ‘Notorious’ and propose the idea of a 176.37lbs catchweight bout.
He wrote: “I have a huge admiration for the great athlete that Conor is and I believe this superfight would be something historic for the sport, neither of us has anything else to prove.
“I believe UFC and (MMA) fans would like to watch this great martial spectacle, testing my martial skills against him would be fantastic.”
The former middleweight champion suffered a first-round TKO loss to Jared Cannonier in his last fight back in May 2019.
Meanwhile, McGregor earned a dominant win over Donald Cerrone in his return to the Octagon at UFC 246 earlier this year.
If the fight were to go ahead - although it seems highly unlikely at this stage - it would be an interesting challenge for the Irishman who has never fought higher than 170lbs.
McGregor has plenty of options for his next bout after also being offered a shot at Kamaru Usman’s welterweight title.
Ali Abdelaziz, Usman’s manager, caused a stir on social media when he tweeted: “Conor McGregor hey you want a title shot? Come to daddy, Usman will give you one and he promise first two rounds without takedowns only slaps.”
‘Notorious’ famously became the first two-weight champion in UFC history, and going one step further would be unprecedented.
There are also talks of a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov and even a trilogy fight against Nate Diaz.
However, the Irishman has recently taken to Twitter to say he'd accept the dream fight with Silva...
