Donald Trump had told Fox News he felt confident there will be a vaccine by the end of the year.
His secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, has made confusing and muddled comments in which he said there was “enormous evidence” the virus came from a
Chinese laboratory.
“Look, the best experts so far seem to think it was manmade,” he said.
But when reminded that US intelligence had issued a formal statement noting the scientific consensus – that the virus was not manmade or genetically modified –
Pompeo replied: “That’s right. I agree with that.”
Sadly more than 67,000 Americans have now lost their lives to the killer bug, a death toll greater than that suffered during the Vietnam War.
