Brian Dennehy Dead: Dynasty and Romeo + Juliet Actor Dies aged 81

The actor's daughter Elizabeth Dennehy confirmed the news that her beloved father has died

Actor Brian Dennehy has died at the age of 81



The news was confirmed by Brian's daughter Elizabeth Dennehy on Twitter, who told fans her father's death was not coronavirus related.

Elizabeth wrote:
"It is with heavy hearts we announce that our father, Brian passed away last night from natural causes, not Covid-related. Larger than life, generous to a fault, a proud and devoted father and grandfather, he will be missed by his wife Jennifer, family and many friends.


Star Trek actor William Shatner also tweeted:
"Condolences to the family of Brian Dennehy. A wonderfully talented actor."

James Woods, who starred with Brian in Best Seller and Split wrote:
"I’m just devastated to hear we lost my beloved friend and colleague, #BrianDennehy. We were partners on two of my favourite films, Split Image and Best Seller. I’ve never laughed so hard as we did every day on the set or off. For a big “tough guy,” he was a sweetheart. #RIPBrian

Dennehy had a career in showbiz that spanned five decades.

In the 70s he starred in a string of hit TV shows including Kojak, M*A*S*H, Lou Grant and Dallas.

He was best known for his recurring role in US soap Dynasty.

Dennehy then moved on to the silver screen and starred as Sherrif Teasle in Sylvester Stallone's 1982 Rambo action film First Blood.

He also starred in Cocoon, Best Seller and in Romeo + Juliet playing Ted Montague.

In more recent years he voice the character Django in Ratatouille and won a Golden Globe in 2001 for his role in Death of a Salesman.

Dennehy also won a Best Actor Tony Award for the stage production of Death of a Salesman and took home the same prestigious honour for Long Day's Journey Into Night in 2003.

He is survived by his wife and five children....
