Henne Done for Year -- Dolphins Name New Starting QB

DAVIE, Fla. — Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Henne’s season is over. Henne decided Wednesday to have surgery on his left shoulder, which was separated in Week 4's loss to the San Diego Chargers, a source confirmed.
Because of the surgery, Henne will go on injured reserve, ending his season. Henne throws righthanded.
Backup quarterback Matt Moore will be the Dolphins' starter moving forward. Moore, 27, started 13 games in four previous seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
The Dolphins looked to fill Henne's roster spot on Thursday with journeyman Sage Rosenfels.
Moore took all the first-team snaps in practice Tuesday and Wednesday, according to media reports. He was 1-4 as a starter last season before his season ended because of a right shoulder injury. He signed a a two-year, $5 million deal with the Dolphins in late July.
Henne was injured on a botched play with 5:50 remaining in the first quarter. Running back Lex Hilliard never heard Henne audible out of a pass into a running play, and Henne dived forward with the ball after he and Hilliard missed on a handoff.

Henne landed awkwardly on his left elbow, and his shoulder couldn’t withstand the force.
Moore was 17-of-26 passing for 167 yards and an interception in relief.
In three plus-games, Henne threw for 868 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions while compiling a 79.0 passer rating.

With the Chargers loss, the Dolphins were 0-4. They do not play this week, giving coach Tony Sparano and staff time to get Moore in synch with the offense.
In 31 games overall as a starter, Henne threw for 31 touchdowns and 37 interceptions. He has a career 75.7 rating. He will be a free agent at season's end.

According to multiple reports, the Dolphins decided to sign Rosenfels, an 11-year veteran, to back up Moore. That deal is pending a medical exam, and Rosenfels' agent reported via Twitter the accord was complete. Rosenfels, 33, was recently released by the New York Giants after reaching an injury settlement. He started 12 games in his career with five different teams, including a stint with the Dolphins from 2002-05.
