Meghan Markle and Harry Have Moved to LA - and The £7m Mansion They're 'Eyeing Up'

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have left Canada and moved to LA, where they are reportedly looking at a stunning five-bedroom mansion with tennis courts, swimming pools and a wine cellar

The Guardian UK / Daily Mirror UK, 30 MAR 2020

Just before the US and Canada closed their borders to non-essential travel to stop the further spread of coronavirus, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry boarded a private jet and flew to LA.

They fled to North America after announcing they were quitting the Royal Family and have been there ever since, except their brief farewell tour in the UK.

But now, the couple have packed their bags again and moved to California, which is reportedly going to to their permanent base going forward.

A royal source told the Sun the couple decided they "had to get out" before the borders closed for the foreseeable future.

In their initial quitting statement Meghan and Harry said they would split their time between the UK and north America, but that plan now seems to have changed - but why?

he source said: "This move was planned for some time. They realised Canada would not work out for various reasons and they want to be based in the Los Angeles area.

“They have a big support network there. It’s where their new team of Hollywood agents and PRs and business managers are based."

And of course there's another huge benefit of living in LA rather than Canada - it's where Meghan's mum Doria lives.

It's where the Duchess grew up, so she also has a lot of friends there and a real support network.

The news comes the day after Meghan's first non-royal job was announced - a narrating role on Disney nature's new film Elephant.

The film, which will land on Disney+ on 3 April, follows an elephant family's "extraordinary 1,000 mile journey across Africa on an adventure that will change their lives."

The exciting new role is Meghan's first performance since she gave up her acting career to marry Harry.

It's unknown where Meghan and Harry will set up home in LA, although it's believed they are looking close to Hollywood.

They are reportedly eyeing up a £5.4m mansion in Malibu home, which is just 30 miles away from Doria.

Petra Manor has five-bedroom property and boasts a tennis court, wine cellar, swimming pool and impressive grounds.

Pictures taken inside Petra Manor show a spacious, luxurious home with plush furnishings.

It comes with a modern bar area, with a marble counter, stools and shakers and tools to make ****tails with.

The property's home cinema is decorated in all-black with beds, comfortable armchairs and sofas.

A glamorous brick wine cellar is also part of the mansion, with enough shelves to hold hundreds of bottles.

One of the bedrooms opens out onto a balcony, overlooking the garden terraces.

The sleek open plan kitchen has two marble-topped islands and a wooden floor, along with a bench and sofas.

Donald Trump Refuses to Pay Security Bill for Harry and Meghan

President tweets his intention as Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly move to California

Donald Trump has said the United States will not pay for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s security protection after they reportedly moved to California.

Harry and Meghan are said to have left their rented home in Vancouver, Canada after taking a private flight to the US before the border closed between the two countries last week.

In response to the reports, the US president tweeted: “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom.

“It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada.

“Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”

A spokesperson for the Sussexes said:

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the US government for security resources. Privately funded security arrangements have been made.”

Trump’s tweet came just days before the couple are due to officially step down as senior royals on 31 March.

Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on the reports the couple are now in California. The palace has also consistently refused to comment on security matters involving the couple.

Harry, Meghan and their baby son, Archie, are said to be living in lockdown near Hollywood in accordance with the state’s Covid-19 containment measures.

A source told the Sun the move had been “planned for some time” and that California, where Meghan, a former actor, grew up, was where their “new team of Hollywood agents and PRs and business managers were based”.

Before marrying into the royal family, Meghan had described Trump as being “misogynistic” and “divisive” during his 2016 presidential campaign, pledging her vote for his rival Hillary Clinton, and threatening to move to Canada if he won.

Before his state visit to the UK last June, Trump was asked about her comments in an interview with the Sun.

He replied: “I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty.” But he also said he thought she would do “excellently” as a member of the royal family.

The question over who will pick up the couple’s security bill has been raised since it emerged that they would no longer be officially representing the Queen, and no longer use their HRH titles as they forge a new path away from Britain, with the aim of becoming financially independent.

The Canadian government has already indicated that it would not be paying the costs of the couple’s security, although it is a Commonwealth country, with the Queen as its head of state.

Last month the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which had been providing protection on an intermittent basis after the couple moved to a rented £10.4m mansion on Vancouver Island in November, announced they would no longer do so.

In a statement at the time to CBS news, the RCMP said that while the duke and duchess were recognised as “internationally protected persons”, Canada had an obligation to provide security assistance on an as-needed basis, and had been providing assistance to the Metropolitan police intermittently since November 2019.

“The assistance will cease in the coming weeks, in keeping with their change in status,” the statement added.
