FBI agents raid billionaire Jeffrey Epstein's US Virgin Island home - dubbed 'paedophile island' - in footage filmed by passing sailors.

A large group of FBI officers were seen disembarking speedboats at the pier of Little St James - and getting around on land with golf buggies.

Others were later seen overlooking the crystal blue sea from the top of Epstein's remote luxury home off the coast of St Thomas.

The 'FBI' lettering could clearly be seen on the back of their shirts during the raid, which started at around 10.30am local time on Monday.

An onlooker, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "I'm on a boat charter with guests. We are the only guests out here at the moment.

"We were enjoying lunch when we saw over a dozen people getting off their speedboats and landing on the island.

"When we looked harder, we could see the FBI logo on the backs of their shirts.

"It didn't take long for us to realise they must be conducting a raid on Epstein's house."

The home - dubbed 'paedophile island' and 'orgy island' - is at the centre of an ongoing sex trafficking probe into the criminal financier.

Allegations have been made that underage girls were used as sex slaves and repeatedly abused inside a temple on the island.

Epstein died on Saturday in a Manhattan correction facility having apparently hanged himself in his cell.

And last night it emerged the warden at the federal jail where he was found dead awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges has been removed.

US Attorney General William Barr ordered the removal after condemning "serious irregularities" at the facility.

The staff shakeup at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan included temporarily reassigning the warden to another post within the federal Bureau of Prisons, appointing a temporary replacement and placing two corrections officers assigned to Epstein's unit on administrative leave pending the outcome of investigations.
