No Icon Boy Injured When Head and Neck Trapped in Car Window

HUBER HEIGHTS, OHIO — A 4-year-old boy was taken to Children’s Medical Center of Dayton and is in critical condition after police said his head and neck became trapped in a car window.
Aidan Bailey was injured at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the Walmart, 7680 Brandt Pike, according to Huber Heights Police Sgt. Matt Dulaney.
A preliminary investigation suggests that Bailey was injured when the car window was rolled up while his head was outside the car window. Bailey was in a booster seat in the back of the green Buick his mother was driving, according to the police incident report.
The boy’s mother Lindsay Dunn told police that she had just pulled into the store’s parking lot, shut off the car engine and parked the car. She then used the auxiliary power to roll up the car windows. While doing this, one of the DVDs that was in her lap fell to the car floor and she started to look for it. She then looked back and saw that her son was out of the booster seat and that his head and neck had been rolled up in the window. She told police that she immediately rolled the window down, got out of the car, retrieved her son and put him face up on the ground.
When emergency responders arrived on the scene, the boy was frothing at the mouth and unresponsive. His face was blue and he had a redline indentation on his neck. Responders also found clear vomit next to Bailey’s head. He was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon, according to Officer Brandon Sucher.
Dunn told police that the most amount of time that her son could have been stuck in the rolled up window was one minute, the report said.
Officer Aaron Harlow wrote in his report that “Lindsay’s demeanor was appropriate during the conversation as she was upset, crying and even having a hard time speaking at times.”
Police at the scene also questioned Dunn about a bruise discovered on her son’s chest. Dunn told police that her son was bruised after she left him alone while giving him a bath. The boy allegedly stood up in the tub and fell face forward, striking his chest on the faucet.
“Children Services will be contacted, as they are with any incident that results in serious injury to a child,” Sucher said.
