WrestleMania 28: Top 5 Opponents for CM Punk

It wasn't too long ago that CM Punk was the leader of the directionless and floundering stable known as the New Nexus with nothing going for him. After losing three straight matches to Randy Orton while enduring a year-long pay-per-view losing streak and rumors of his contract expiring, it seemed CM Punk was destined to leave the WWE.

Fast forward to present day, and CM Punk has become one of the biggest names in wrestling. After cutting one of the greatest promos in the history of wrestling and then winning the WWE title at Money in the Bank, CM Punk quickly became the hottest property in professional wrestling and one of WWE's biggest names.

And after usurping John Cena as WWE's No. 1 merchandise seller, it seems that Punk has solidified himself as a top face of WWE.

Now that he has attained the status he felt he deserved, he is all but certain to attain a spot on the card for WrestleMania 28.

But it can't just be any match. It has to be a high-profile, money-making, show-stealing match that is worthy for someone of Punk's caliber. Anything less would be insulting for Punk and his fans.

But who will face Punk at WrestleMania 28?

While that may remain a mystery until WrestleMania season, let's see who would be the top five opponents for the Voice of the Voiceless at the Grandest Stage of Them All.

5. Daniel Bryan

If you don't want to see CM Punk face Daniel Bryan, especially at WrestleMania, then you are either not a true wrestling fan, or you don't know how good these two really are.
Daniel Bryan and CM Punk go back as far as their days in ROH, which is known and made famous from it's high quality wrestling as well as phenomenal wrestlers.
It was there that these two men made their mark as two of the best wrestlers in the world today, and where they created many classics, some with each other.
They have faced off against one another in the indies, but WWE fans have never seen these two go one-on-one, so it is the IWC's dream for WWE to finally bear witness to a Bryan v.s Punk, and what better place than at WrestleMania.
We got a taste of that at the Royal Rumble earlier this year when these two started off the Rumble match itself. Judging from that, it would be an all-out classic if these two had 20 minutes to wrestle.
Daniel Bryan is cashing in his Money in the Bank at WrestleMania 28 for the World Title, so it's unlikely that they will face off, but it's still possible, and with how the WWE is today, anything can happen.

4. Christian

In my opinion, Christian has finally gotten what he has deserved for so long in WWE.

He is a now two-time world champion. He had a great run in the main event, he was a Feud of the Year candidate with Orton, he was a big player in the conspiracy storyline and is now one of the featured stars for the company.
So to see Christian take on CM Punk at the Grandest Stage of Them All would be the crowning moment for Captain Charisma.
During the summer, I once referred to Christian as the CM Punk of SmackDown, as he was fighting against the golden boy, Randy Orton, WWE management and the injustice that had been done to him.
CM Punk and Christian both try to fight management so the changes they want can happen, but they go about it in very different ways.
CM Punk is the man who drops pipebombs in your face, punches you in the face and fights for what he wants, while Christian is the ultimate whiner, who complains about everything happening to him and uses legal counsel to work the system.
As far as I can tell, these two have never had a feud with one another, and with these two heavily featured in the conspiracy storyline, it can only be a matter of time before they do.
Knowing how phenomenal these two wrestlers are, both on the mic and in the ring, we would be in for a great rivalry as well as an awesome match.

3. Chris Jericho

The Best in the World vs. The Best in the World

Does that sound absolutely epic or what?

Chris Jericho has been thrown in as a possible opponent for CM Punk at WrestleMania, and it's a match many want to see.
When you take a good look at these two men, it's not hard to see why.
Both men are the absolute total package when it comes to professional wrestling. Both have mic skills many would beg for. Both have unique looks, both have unreal charisma that could draw in anyone, and both have are among the best wrestlers in the business today.
Both men also could not get a good hold on the main event scene and a true establishment as a star until both when through major gimmick changes, with both claiming themselves as the Best in the World.
Think about it—these two in a rivalry leading up to WrestleMania over who the Best in the World truly is, then putting on one of the greatest matches we ever see?
That is gold right there, ladies and gentlemen.
Right now, a return date to WWE for Chris Jericho is not known, and it's questionable if he will ever come back.
If he does, it might not be in time for WrestleMania—but anything can happen in WWE.

With Undertaker rumored to make one final match at WrestleMania 28, many wonder who will be the final opponent for the Deadman at WrestleMania. Chris Jericho, Kane, Mark Henry, Triple H—all of these names popular choices, but perhaps there is one man perfect for the spot more than anyone.
You guessed it—CM Punk.
CM Punk's rise to fame over the summer has made him of the biggest and hottest stars in the business today, and he has finally reached the level where he is worthy to face the Undertaker for the Streak at WrestleMania 28.
Think about it—this match would cement CM Punk's main event status and star power once and for all.

1. Stone Cold Steve Austin

Was there every any doubt?

Stone Cold Steve Austin is without a doubt the best opponent for CM Punk at WrestleMania 28, and it's the match most fans want to see happen.
The seeds for this dream match were first planted when it was featured in the WWE All-Star game as a Fantasy Warfare match.
With a great concept surrounding their different lifestyles, as well as an awesome video promo for it, the match quickly took off with the IWC, and became a nice dream match many would want to see.
But the match really took off when CM Punk did his now-infamous work-shoot promo, airing his grievances with WWE and bashing management.
Soon, Punk slowly became a rebel vowing for change, dropping pipebombs wherever he went and fighting and insulting management.
In the eyes of many, CM Punk became the new anti-hero, and was seen as the new Stone Cold Steve Austin of this era. And soon enough, fans everywhere wanted to see these two face one another, and at no other place than WrestleMania 28.
Both men are very similar, yet are very different as well. Put this match alongside John Cena vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 28, and you get perhaps the most anticipated WrestleMania in history.
And the best part—this match actually has a chance of happening.
Stone Cold has stated in numerous interviews that he is open to one more match, and if it does happen, he would face none other than CM Punk.
And Punk himself says he would be honored to face Stone Cold, admiring him greatly, and saying if the pieces fell in the right places, they would face off.
Like Rock vs. Cena, Punk vs. Austin would be a case of two eras clashing, The Attitude Era vs. The Reality Era, and it would make WrestleMania 28 the biggest WrestleMania in history.
