Doyle Wolverton, head coach of Leake Academy is accused of biting his own player's face during a game Tuesday in Leake County, Mississippi.

Leake Academy (Madden, Miss.) girls basketball coach Doyle Wolverton, whose career coaching record ranks him second on the nation's all-time victories list, resigned after allegedly biting a player in the face during a game, according to multiple reports out of Mississippi.

In a timeout during Leake's win over Columbia Academy (Columbia, Miss.) last week, Wolverton allegedly bit one of his own players on the right cheek, the complaint obtained by WJTV said.

Victim stated that she was standing in the huddle with the other teammates listening to Coach Wolverton. Victim stated that Coach Wolverton then grabbed her by the shirt and then bit her on the right side of her face. Deputies observed the victim to have a bruised bite mark on the lower right side of her face.

The player's father took his "bloody and bruised" daughter to the emergency room back in the family's hometown of Carthage, Miss. — a decision Wolverton recommended following the game, according to WJTV. Hospital employees then had to report the alleged assault to the Leake County Sheriff's office. The player's family chose not to file charges.Wolverton resigned on Monday, Leake County Sheriff Greg Waggoner told the Clarion-Ledger. The legendary coach, Leake Academy headmaster Jerry Crowe and the player's father would not comment on the incident.

Wolverton concludes his career with a remarkable 1,245-181 record (.873 winning percentage) over 38 seasons on the Leake Academy bench, including 15 private school state championships. His 1,245 career victories trail only current Granbury High (Granbury, Texas) girls basketball coach Leta Andrews, whose 1,365 wins top the career list.
