Anti-SEX Beds Return For Paris Olympics in Bid to Prevent Athlete Orgies Seen at Previous Games

The Olympic Village has a reputation for sex, but organisers this year have installed some environmentally friendly beds that might not be ideal for some post-podium canoodling

So-called “anti-sex beds” have been installed in the athlete’s accommodation for the Paris Olympics.

The beds are allegedly aimed at deterring athletes from getting hot and heavy during the competition. The single beds with cardboard frames are perhaps not as sturdy as a traditional bed, despite claiming to support the weight of an athlete up to 200kg, with their small size meaning there's little room for competitors to cosy up under the covers.

The Olympic Village has gained a somewhat raunchy reputation for flings and steamy scenes behind closed bedroom doors over the years. But the Olympics organising committee said the beds, which have 100 per cent recyclable materials, are there because they are better for the environment.

“I hope that Paris 2024's efforts to reduce its impact will show that it is possible to do things differently," said Georgina Grenon, the organising committee’s director of environmental excellence told AFP.

It isn’t the first time the issue of sex has come up before the games. Similar beds were installed before the Tokyo games during the Covid pandemic by the same manufacturer, Airweave. In Tokyo, athletes were told not to be intimate with each other to limit the spread of Covid.

Before the Tokyo Olympics, former long jump star Susen Tiedtke told the German tabloid Bild: "[The ban] is a big laughing stock for me, it doesn't work at all. Sex is always an issue in the village. The athletes are at their physical peak at the Olympics.

When the competition is over, they want to release their energy."
