Now more than a decade on, AI is still plugging away as a professional athlete, mainly because he owes a lot of money. But an indoor soccer team could be willing to help him. The Rochester Lancers are one of the seven teams that make up the Major Indoor Soccer League. They’re mostly career Indoor players, and their captain, Doug Miller, is 42 years old. But they think they can turn some heads by bringing in the four-time NBA scoring champ and 2001 MVP. In fact, they’re offering him $20,000 per game, with a $5,000 bonus for every goal scored. Not bad work if you can get it. The team has already issued a press release: Now, like any good soccer fan, I’ve played the “what if” game regarding famous American athletes as soccer players (LeBron James as a central defender, Jerry Rice as a target striker), and given Iverson’s sheer athleticism, speed, and skill with the ball, he would have made a fantastic wingback. |
