Senior Manchester United players reportedly want the club to replace struggling manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League after winning just one of their last six games in the competition.

United have recently suffered embarrassing home defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City, despite boasting one of the most expensive squads in Europe.

The club reportedly spent more than £130million during the summer on Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

United's Champions League hopes are also hanging in the balance, with victories against Villarreal and Young Boys needed to guarantee their progression.

And, according to journalist Duncan Castles, senior players in the squad now feel it's time for the club to bring in a new manager.

It's believed core members of the team are concerned United won't achieve what they are capable of doing this season.

Reports elsewhere claim United have complied a four-man shortlist to replace Solskjaer in the near future.

That rumoured list includes Leicester's Brendan Rodgers, Paris Saint-Germain's Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham's Antonio Conte and free agent Zinedine Zidane.

Rodgers and Pochettino are thought to be the most likely candidates following Conte's recent appointment at Spurs and Zidane's reported lack of interest in the job.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blasted over "sackable offence" in Man Utd training

Rumours suggest United's hierarchy see Rodgers and Pochettino as managers who fit the "cultural reboot" they started in December 2018 after sacking Jose Mourinho.

Solskjaer was identified as someone who could adhere to the club's values and tradition after winning plenty of trophies under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

But as United approach five years without silverware, it appears the Norwegian's time at Old Trafford is running out.

One senior player who could be frustrated with Solskjaer is Jadon Sancho, after reports claimed the manager was considering playing him at wing-back.

Although he's only 21, Sancho is one of the club's highest earners, an England international and viewed as one of the most talented youngsters in Europe.

Ex-Premier League defender Danny Mills believes playing the former Borussia Dortmund star at wing-back would be "almost a sackable offence".

Mills recently said: "Good luck turning him into a wing-back.

"He didn’t play for England too much in the Euros because I don’t think he was reliable enough to track back and do the defensive side of it. Dortmund never played him there.

"You bought a winger who is going to create chances and score goals. Suddenly you’re going to play him at wing-back in an unbelievably leaky defence.

"It’s like, really? That’s almost a sackable offence in itself. Shall we put Cristiano Ronaldo at centre-half because he can head a ball?

"I think Ronaldo can head the ball better than the centre-halves at the moment so should they put him at centre-half? It’s more than a little bit ridiculous."
