Cops Dashcam Video/Photo: Wisconsin Fatal Police Shootout

Wisconsin Officers Cleared in Fatal Shooting; Dash Cam Video Released

AP. May, 2011

TOMAH, Wis. --
Tomah authorities are still investigating whether a suspect killed by officers last month is connected to at least 10 shootings along Interstate 39/90 in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Tomah police fatally shot Seth McCloskey, 28, during a traffic stop in Tomah on Friday. Police said McCloskey jumped out of his pickup truck and started shooting, wounding one officer.
Authorities said the red truck matches one that witnesses have described in recent random drive-by shootings at homes and businesses across Wisconsin and Illinois.
One of those shots wounded Christine A. Hudson, 50, while she was inside her town of Albion home.

Officials in Wisconsin believe all the gunshots came from one vehicle traveling on the interstate. Bullets from seven shootings in Winnebago County, Ill., are being analyzed.
Tomah police have released squad car dashcam video showing a dramatic exchange of gunfire between McCloskey and officers.

Monroe County District Attorney Dan Cary said the video shows officers were justified in firing back, fatally wounding the suspect.
"These officers performed admirably and did their duty. We should all be very proud of what they did. Although it was sad that Mr. McCloskey lost his life, these officers did what they needed to do," Cary said.
Tomah police said they stopped McCloskey when they thought he may be connected to an earlier drive-by shooting in Tomah.

One comment from a reader;

It was obvious to me (Richard), having never seen this clip before, the officer engaged his overhead roof lights and siren to signal the suspect to pull over when he recklessly violated the right-of-way and compromised the safety of the vehicle in previous intersection. Kudos for the officer(s) responding in neutralizing the threat posed by the suspect in maintaining the safety of the public and themselves at the risk of loss of life and personal injury. Thank God we have such brave folks in our nation. Time at the range well spent... "No brass or ammo, Drill Sergeant!" ... and no prolonged trial, whining windbags, early release programs, and a repeat offense to see innocent dead folks laying on the streets because of them.

Wow what an idiot to get out of his car like that and fire at cops. The end was inevitable.
