The former president sat down for a glitch-plagued conversation with X owner Elon Musk Monday night
Elon Musk's much-anticipated discussion with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on the billionaire’s platform X was marred by technical issues.
The conversation, in which Mr Musk asked friendly questions on subjects such as immigration and inflation, began more than 40 minutes late as many users struggled to gain access.
The event was billed as an interview but Trump made a series of unsubstantiated claims that went without challenge.
Mr Musk repeated his endorsement of Trump, who faces a resurgent new Democratic candidate, Vice-President Kamala Harris, in November’s election.
He blamed the glitches on a cyber-attack but one expert told the BBC that was unlikely.
The conversation on X comes as Trump, the former president and Republican presidential nominee, is trying to reset his re-election campaign.

Joe Scarborough hooted with laughter at Donald Trump's account of a purported conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin that sounded more like the "Saturday Night Live" characters Wayne and Garth.
The former president sat down for a glitch-plagued conversation with X owner Elon Musk Monday night, and Trump claimed that he cautioned Putin against invading Ukraine — which led to an odd rehash of their conversation.
"It's just one of those things, and we would talk a lot about Ukraine," Trump said. "It was the apple of his eye, but I said, 'Don't ever do it, don't ever do — you can't do it, Vladimir. You do it, it's going to be a bad day. You cannot do it.' I told him things what I'd do and he said, 'No way,' and I said, 'Way.'"
Scarborough and "Morning Joe" co-host Willie Geist cracked up, comparing their supposed comments to the 1982 novelty hit "Valley Girl."
"Come on!" Scarborough said.
"A little 'Valley Girl' diplomacy," Geist added. "Wow."
"Who was that, Zappa – which Zappa, Moon Unit Zappa?" Scarborough said. "'Valley Girl'? Channeling Moon Unit there, pretty awesome. 'No way!'"
"He's so proud of his relationship with Vladimir Putin, just won't come off that position," Geist added. ""He loves the guy."
The Trump-Musk conversation was hosted on Spaces, the social network's streaming platform, but technical issues prevented many users from accessing the content at all and limited the live portion to audio only, although video released later revealed Trump sitting at a table at Mar-a-Lago in front of a painting of himself in a tennis sweater.
"How could you imagine that people wouldn't resonate to that picture of that dark room with Trump's hair and that weird portrait in the tennis outfit in the background which is just -- you talk about dystopic, I don't see how that's not turning voters on," said Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson.
"It's driving Trump crazy. He's searching and searching and trying to find a way into the conversation because he's just sort of babbling into the void. In a lot of instances and, you know, we've seen the recent times when he goes out in public and just says nonsensical and ridiculous and worrisome things, worrisome about his own mental health.
I guess if you want to look at it, in political terms, maybe he was trying to get back the white dude vote, or to shore it up by doing this thing with Elon Musk, figuring that that was the demographic he was going to reach."
"Boy, you know, if you sort of babble for two hours into the void, you know, does it actually make a sound?" Robinson added. "I'm not convinced that it did."

CUNNING Trump and SLIMEY Musk Discussed Their Shared Vision For U.S. on Social Media Platform X
It's not the first time the ex-president, who is again running for re-election, has talked about travelling to Venezuela.
During Donald Trump's "marathon" Monday night conversation with Elon Musk on the social media platform X, the convicted ex-president who faces criminal sentencing next month acknowledged the fact he could lose the presidential election, and invited his billionaire benefactor if he were again defeated, to "meet" with him in Venezuela, considered a "safe haven" as it has no extradition treaty with the United States.
And while Trump is no fan of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro, he has repeatedly ?€“ and falsely claimed that nation's authoritarian dictator reduced crime by 72%, although he alleges also falsely ?€“ the drop was achieved by sending their criminals to the U.S.
Venezuela was crime ridden, Trump said "after his conviction in the hush money case," FactCheck.org reported in June. Caracas, their cities, crime ridden two years ago, three years ago. They just reported a 72% drop in crime in the last year because all of their criminals, most of them, and the rest are coming in now, the ones that didnt come in.
In Venezuela, their prisons have been emptied into the United States. Their criminals and drug dealers have been taken out of the cities and brought into the United States, and thats true with many other countries.?
Monday night, after technical glitches stalled his conversation with the owner of the social media platform who is supporting his re-election bid, including reportedly by holding "hour-long meetings" with his pro-Trump Super PAC, Trump falsely alleged the crime rate in Venezuela makes it "safer" than the United States.
Our crime rate?s going through the roof, Trump told Musk. But violent and property crime in the U.S. have dropped "significantly" since Trump left office, according to a CNN fact check of Trump's conversation with Musk.
Vox on Monday also reported, "Violent crime is plummeting."
If something happens with this election, which would be a horror show, well meet the next time in Venezuela, Trump told Musk. Because itll be a far safer place to meet than our country. You and I will go and well have a meeting and dinner in Venezuela.
Legal experts jumped on Trump suggesting a trip to Venezuela, especially given his status as a convicted criminal awaiting sentencing.
"Trump is a convicted felon to be sentenced in a month and he™s talking about fleeing to a country that refuses US extradition requests," observed MSNBC legal analyst Kristy Greenberg, a former SDNY Criminal Division Deputy Chief. "Anyone else would be in jail. Trump is showing yet again that he ist amenable to Probation?s supervision and must be sentenced to jail time."
Dean Gloster, an author and "former law clerk to two U.S. Supreme Court Justices," according to his bio, wrote: "Former attorney here. When you're five weeks away from being sentenced for 34 felony convictions, and you don't want your bond revoked, don't tell everyone you're planning to flee to Venezuela."
National security attorney Brad Moss remarked: "No wait, yeah, he did. He hinted that he™ll flee the jurisdiction if he loses in November. Excuse me, probation officer?"
In a "serious note" on the Trump-Musk conversation, attorney and Colorado Sun columnist Mario Nicolais observed: "Trump said that if he loses, they will have to do the next one in Venezuela. That is a non-extradition country.
When he loses, he needs to be taken into custody IMMEDIATELY. He is an obvious flight risk."
"It doesn™t sound at all like hes kidding," noted U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI), and it does sound like hes thought about this."
Indeed, as far back as June, Trump has been talking about going to Venezuela.

According to two dozen government officials and military personnel who spoke with the New York Times, Trump had signed off in 2019 on an operation to deploy SEAL Team 6s Red Squadron
The same unit that carried out the 2011 assassination of Osama Bin Laden to the shores of North Korea to plant an electronic device to intercept the communications of its Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.
The operation was ultimately a failure, not the first by the SAME TEAM, with the operation being compromised by a small boat approaching the teams mini subs.
The team ended up firing upon and killing the boats two to three passengers, later learned to likely be civilians that had been diving for shellfish - DUH.. according to New York Times reporters Dave Philipps and Matthew Cole, who spoke with the officials under the condition of anonymity
And, while the teams actions likely constituted a violation of international law both by the violation of North Koreas sovereignty by crossing into its borders, and the extrajudicial execution of civilians Trumps signing off on the operation may itself have violated the law as well.
The Trump administration did not notify key members of Congress who oversee intelligence operations, BEFORE or after the mission, the report reads. The lack of notification may have violated the law.
The White House declined to comment
The operation took place amid Trumps attempts to broker peace with the East Asian nation, a long time adversary to the United States, in large part for rejecting American influence and instead cozying up to the Soviet Union. In June of that year, Trump became the first United States president to set foot in North Korea in what was a widely covered spectacle at the time.
As to Trumps criminal culpability for greenlighting the operation, Matthew Waxman, a professor at Columbia University, told the New York Times that while some gray area existed for presidents to order covert operations without notifying Congress, in this instance, it was more likely than not that Trumps decision ran afoul of standard protocol.
The point is to ensure that Congress isnt kept in the dark when major stuff is going on, Waxman said

Mexicos president has made it clear she wont approve a military takeover
The mission would include ground operations inside Mexico and the early stages of training for the operation have already begun.
Plans call for U.S. troops in Mexico to strike drug labs and cartel members and leaders with drones.
Many of the U.S. troops would be from Joint Special Operations Command and would operate under the authority of the U.S. intelligence community, known as Title 50 status. Officers from the CIA would also take part in the mission.
A move into Mexico would widen the U.S. battle against drug cartels, which currently has been limited to striking boats allegedly carrying drugs out of Venezuela.
The U.S. in the past has quietly deployed CIA, military and law enforcement teams to Mexico in order to back local police and army units battling drug cartels.
If Trump goes ahead with the Mexico deployment, the administration plans to maintain secrecy around it and not publicize actions associated with it, as it has with recent bombings of suspected drug smuggling boats,

Now the UK has stopped sharing some intelligence with the US on 'suspected' drug trafficking boats in the Caribbean following concerns over Americas illegal strikes against all vessels.
The US has reported carrying out 14 strikes since September on vessels near the Venezuelan coast. Venezuela says they are illegal, amount to murder and are aggression against the sovereign South American nation.
Downing Street did not deny that the UK is withholding intelligence from the US to avoid being complicit in military strikes it believes may breach international law.
That information helped the US Coast Guard locate the ships, seize drugs and detain crews, CNN cited sources as saying, but officials are concerned the Trump administrations actions may be illegal.
The intelligence sharing pause began more than a month ago, quoting sources as saying Britain shares UN human rights chief Volker Turks assessment that the strikes amount to extrajudicial killing.
The reports could provide an awkward backdrop for a meeting between Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and her US counterpart Marco Rubio, expected on Wednesday at the G7 foreign ministerial summit in Canada.
A Number 10 spokesman did not deny the move when asked about the pause in intelligence sharing.

Donald Trump on Monday did not rule out military action against Venezuela despite bringing up a potential diplomatic opening with leader Nicol?s Maduro, who has insisted that a U.S. military buildup and strikes on alleged drug boats near his South American country are designed to push him out of office.
Trump reiterated that he probably would talk to Maduro, but underscored that he is not taking off the table the possibility of military action on Venezuelan territory. Hours later, Maduro said he is open to dialogue with the Trump administration.
I dont rule out that. I dont rule out anything, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office a day after he first floated the possibility of having discussions with Maduro. Trump, however, sidestepped questions about whether Maduro could say anything to him that would lead to the U.S. backing off its military show of force.
He's done tremendous damage to our country, said Trump, tying Maduro to drugs and migrants coming into the U.S. from Venezuela.
He has not been good to the United States, so we'll see what happens.

Venezuelan President Maduro says two US citizens have been arrested following what he said was an attempt to overthrow him.
An American mercenary captured after a bungled attempt to topple Maduro has claimed he was on a mission to seize control of Venezuelas main airport in order to abduct its leader and he alleged that was acting under the command of Donald Trump.
Luke Denman was one of two US citizens seized by Venezuelan security forces this week after what appears to have been a catastrophically conceived bid to overthrow Maduro by sneaking into the South American country in a fleet of battered fishing boats.

Maduro claimed Trump had subcontracted the “disastrous invasion so as to be able to “wash his hands” of the episode if it went wrong.

In Washington, the US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, said the US woulduse every tool to get the two captured Americans back, and raised eyebrows by saying there was no direct? US government involvement in the strange raid.
If we had been involved, it would have gone differently,? Pompeo told reporters shortly before Denman was shown on Venezuelan state television. As for who bankrolled it, were not prepared to share any more information about what we know took place.
Asked about what action the administration would take, Pompeo said We will start the process of trying to figure a way if, in fact, these are Americans that are there that we can figure a path forward. We want to get every American back. If the Maduro regime decides to hold them, we'll use every tool that we have available to try and get them back.
Maduro has ruled Venezuela since 2013, in which time more than 4.5 million people have fled the country to escape food shortages, violence and political turmoil. He has been accused of overseeing gross violations? of human rights during a crackdown on political opponents and in March was indicted in the US on charges of drug trafficking and money-laundering.
