With forecasts of more bad weather prompting storm alerts farther north, S?nchez urged residents on Thursday to ?please, follow the calls of the emergency services ? Right now the most important thing is to save as many lives as possible.? Officials in the stricken eastern region of Valencia said 155 bodies had been recovered there, with three deaths also reported from the Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia regions. The toll makes the disaster the deadliest episode of flooding in Spain?s modern history. Authorities have not disclosed how many people are still unaccounted for but the defence minister, Margarita Robles, earlier said the death toll was expected to rise further given some areas remain inaccessible to rescuers. Flags flew at half-mast on government buildings and a minute of silence was observed nationwide after the flash floods battered Valencias infrastructure, sweeping away bridges, roads and railway tracks and submerging farmland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APDGcReCZVM Typhoon Kong-rey: https://static01.nyt.com/images/2024...ne3000-v30.jpg https://d.newsweek.com/en/full/25084...ze-massive.jpg https://arynews.tv/wp-content/upload...fa-China-1.jpg https://kalingatv.com/wp-content/upl...-Kong-rey-.jpg https://img.republicworld.com/all_im...4602-16_9.webp https://static1.straitstimes.com.sg/...&itok=AS9eifSB https://mapi.associatedpress.com/v2/...=150x&wm=false https://i.headtopics.com/images/2024...29A5B55A8.webp https://images.foxweather.com/static....jpg?ve=1&tl=1 Taiwan has shut down work, school and transport as the biggest typhoon to hit the island in decades made landfall on its east coast. Kong-rey has been declared a ?strong typhoon? by Taiwans Central Weather Administration (CWA), which said it was expected to be the largest storm to hit Taiwan since 1996. Kong-rey struck the island later in the typhoon season, which typically stretches from May to October, than any typhoon since 1967. Authorities have warned people to stay inside because of the high risk of landslides, storm surges, destructive winds and flooding, with more than 1.2 metres of rainfall expected. Authorities said more than 70 injuries had been recorded as a result of the typhoon by the time it made landfall, and one person was killed after their vehicle hit a fallen tree. Almost half a million homes were without power on Thursday afternoon. Storm trackers have measured Kong-rey as the equivalent of a category 3 to 4 hurricane. The most recent reports measured gusts of more than 225km/h (140mph) and sustained winds of 183km/h near its centre. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDlcECEn7bg |

Barcelona Airport: Spain Do NOT Travel RED Warning Amid Extreme Danger of MORE Floods

A red alert warning of extreme danger was issued by the local government of Catalonia, as the region suffered extreme rainfall. Do not travel unless strictly necessary, the Catalonia authorities said in a statement, as roads in the Barcelona area suffered flooding and railway networks experienced delays. The terminals and car parks of Barcelonas El Prat Airport were flooded as the city saw 5in of rainfall. At least 70 flights were cancelled and 18 were diverted to alternative airports on Monday, as staff attempted to clear the water and air traffic controllers were forced to space out departures. While the rain has now subsided in Barcelona, operations continue to be affected by delays. Last week, Valencia suffered one of the deadliest floods in Europe this century, with 217 confirmed deaths. Shocking footage showed piles of cars being dragged away by the flood-water, as other parts of Spain, including M?laga, were affected by the extreme weather. Rescue workers continue to search through the rubble amid fears that the death toll could rise https://maps-barcelona.com/img/1200/...-spain-map.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLXvRcYkJoc&t=4s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxdJPQE6ZYk |

Tornadoes and Floods batter Spains' Costa del Sol MailOnline 14 NOV 2024 https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/11...1509482690.jpg Water is seen gushing down from the ceiling in a shopping centre https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/11...1510911388.jpg https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/11...1509103945.jpg https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/11...1507292526.jpg https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/11...1507283096.jpg Spains' Costa del Sol has been lashed by torrential rain storms and floods, with dramatic footage showing twisters off the coast and over land as the latest devastating weather front bears down on the country. Video has shown a tornado whipping up debris over the coastline of popular tourist resort Marbella, while floodwaters washed over the town's famous seaside promenades as people sat and watched in waterfront restaurants. Out to sea, waterspouts were filmed towering into the sky, with the powerful torrents seen hurtling towards the shore and yachts docked in a nearby marina. No injuries have been reported. In Malaga, residents filmed cars ploughing through deep floodwaters on what are usually busy roads, with buses seen abandoned in the high waters as road barriers are swept away. Residents watched as torrents of water gushed down a flight of stairs within metres of shops and homes, as thousands have been forced to evacuate and lockdown in their homes and holiday apartments amid the treacherous conditions. More shocking video showed rain pouring from the ceiling of the El Corte Ingles shopping centre in Malaga, with aisles beccoming steeped in water in scenes disturbingly reminiscent of those seen in Valencia two weeks ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZ_jExidb4s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OY73FuM-Vs |
