Natural Resources Wales has warnings in place on the River Wye at Monmouth and the River Ritec at Tenby. There were a further 262 flood alerts, where flooding is possible, in place across England and nine in Wales. Data from the Environment Agency showed almost every river in England has reached exceptionally high levels with some reaching record levels. Network Rail was working to repair damage caused by a landslip near Arlesey in Bedfordshire on Thursday, along with planned engineering works. They estimate affected lines will reopen by the start of Monday with a bus replacement service in place until then. Liam Stych has been praised as a 'local hero' after stepping in to save the pair in Birmingham on Tuesday (January 2). The brave rescuer was out for a walk with his pregnant partner, Tia, when they spotted the family stuck in the car, BirminghamLive reports. In a video clip, Tia was heard telling the pair they would need to escape via the window. A few seconds later, Liam was filmed pulling the child from the car. He also managed to save the mum before securing the vehicle to the bridge to stop it being washed away. Officers at the scene hailed his bravery and called him a 'local hero'. Liam told the BBC that events unfolded fast but insisted he was not a hero. He said: "I said to the woman, 'now's your time you know, take my hand and we can go'. At that moment she just put her arms out to me for help. "I don't know how we did it, but we sort of jumped in a way that we made it on to the grass."
