An asylum seeker has been jailed for life after killing a young man in a scooter row while on the run from Serbia for a double murder.

Fugitive Lawangeen Abdulrahimzai, from Afghanistan, killed 21-year-old Thomas Roberts outside a Subway sandwich shop in Bournemouth, Dorset, on March 12, 2022.

He plunged a large knife - which he routinely carried with him - into the victim's chest twice before fleeing the scene.

The killer had arrived in the UK in December 2019 and was living in Poole, having attended a school pretending to be 14 while living with an unsuspecting foster mum.

He told police he was 16 when he was arrested, but the court determined that he is now 21.

He was found guilty of murder by majority verdict on Monday (January 23) at Salisbury Crown Court and jailed today to serve a minimum of 29 years behind bars.

In November 2020 he was convicted of the murders of two fellow Afghans in his absence by a Serbian court, having been wanted in the country since the killings.

Judge Paul Dugdale said on jailing him for the latest murder: "In seconds you took the life of a thoroughly decent man with a bright future who was loved greatly by so many people."
