Bondi Beast Who Raped 31 Women Out Jogging or in Their Homes Identified After 40 Yrs

A serial rapist branded the "Bondi Beast" has been identified thanks to a DNA breakthrough - 40 years after his first attack.

Despite the horrific crimes he committed, his family remembered him as a loving father and grandfather

Keith Simms' reign of terror lasted 16 years, with him attacking 31 women between 1985 and 2001.

He would either sexually assault them after entering their homes or by striking while they were out jogging.

At the time, detectives on the case thought there may have been multiple suspects prowling the area around Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.

But a DNA breakthrough has now revealed that Simms was responsible for each of the 31 assaults.

Unfortunately, the monster will never face justice because he died in February aged 66.

During his spate of sexual offences, he earned a number of different monikers, including the "Bondi Beast" and the "Tracksuit Rapist".

The first assault took place in Clovelly - a seaside suburb of New South Wales - in 1985.

The last assault happened at a cemetery close to the original scene.

At the time, cops investigated the cases individually and it wasn't until the 2000s when they began to realise the links.

DNA recovered from 12 of the victims was the same, and the remaining 19 incidents matched how the attacker operated.

The ages of the victims varied, with one as young as 14 and the eldest aged 55.

Each woman gave a similar description of the man who had attacked them in their witness testimonies.

They told cops he was between 160cm and 180cm tall, with a dark complexion, brown eyes and a wide nose.

During the attacks he threatened his victims with a knife or pretended he was carrying one, covered his face and wore casual clothes - earning him the "Tracksuit Rapist" nickname.

It wasn't until 2019 that investigators had a breakthrough.

They found a positive familial DNA match in the police database, narrowing down the number of potential suspects to 324 people.

A sample from Simms was a perfect match to the DNA taken from the dozens of women he raped.

Australian media has reported that Simms was a beloved dad, granddad and member of his local community.
