Sydney criminal gangs are using stolen identities to use for their gang crimes

Sydney's deadly gang wars could be about to get worse

7NEWS Australia 14 Oct 2022

There are fears Sydney's deadly gang wars could be about to get worse. Investigators say they're at a tipping point...

Police are warning Sydney residents that criminal gangs have latched onto a new tactic of using stolen identities to register cars used for gangland hits. They hope this new information will help them crack the case over the murder of one of Australia's most notorious gangsters.

Police who are investigating the city's ongoing gang war, including last year's murder of crime figure Bilal Hamze and the failed attempted assassination of his brother Ibrahem, have uncovered this new modus operandi and say anyone can be a victim.

Police have also released new CCTV vision showing a Ford Territory, Mercedes sedan and Honda Odyssey which they believe are connected to Bilal's murder and his brother's attempted killing in North Sydney.

These vehicles are seen at Ibrahem's apartment block multiple times over a three week period before the assassination attempt on August 14th 2021. The Mercedes from the attempted hit and the Audi used in Bilal's killing were seen together in the weeks leading up to the murder.

Police say anyone who believes their identity has been stolen or has had unusual correspondence from the RMS, should call police immediately.

Police have now warned two reporters about their personal safety ahead of a new crime series focusing on the city's two most violent families.
