Man Caught Trying to Sell Girlfriends' Four-Year-Old Daughter at Petrol Station

A man who tried to sell his girlfriend's young daughter for £1,900 at a petrol station while high on drugs has been jailed for less than a year.

Harry Day was arrested after a member of the public overheard his conversation about the four-year-old girl and called the police in Kentucky, USA.

The 29-year-old was tracked down to a home after police were given his car's registration.

Officers found Day, the tot and the girl's mother, 26-year-old Gertrude Henson at home.

Kentucky State Police said in statement: "While at the residence troopers found Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia."

Day was charged with promoting human trafficking of a child under the age of 18 and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

Henson, who is a mother-of-two, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor.

Her children are from a previous relationship.

On Monday, Day appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the promoting human trafficking charge, the Times-Tribune of Corbin reports.

A judge sentenced him to 360 days in jail. As part of the plea agreement, the DUI charges against Day was dropped.

Details of Henson's court date are yet to be released.
