Alexis Ohanian Resigns From Reddit Board, Wants a Black Candidate to Replace Him

Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has resigned from his company's board to make room for a more diverse voice.

Ohanian, who is married to tennis star Serena Williams, announced Friday that he'd stepped down and has "urged them to fill my seat with a black candidate."

The tech entrepreneur and investor also stated that he will use future gains on his Reddit stock "to serve the black community, chiefly to curb racial hate," starting with a $1 million donation to Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights Camp initiative.

"It is long overdue to do the right thing. I'm doing this for me, for my family, and for my country," he wrote. "I’m saying this as a father who needs to be able to answer his black daughter when she asks: 'What did you do?'"

Alexis Kerry Ohanian (born April 24, 1983 also known by the username kn0thing, is an American Internet entrepreneur and investor.
He is best known as the co-founder and executive chairman of the social news website Reddit.

He also co-founded the early-stage venture capital firm Initialized Capital, helped launch the travel search website Hipmunk, and started the social enterprise Breadpig. He was also a partner at Y Combinator.

In 2012, Andy Greenberg of Forbes magazine dubbed him Mayor of the Internet.

Ohanian is based in Florida, where he lives with his wife, professional tennis player Serena Williams, and their daughter.

As of 2019, Forbes estimated his net worth as $70M.
