Movies Madeleine McCann; Christian Brueckners’ Lawyer Brags He’ll Get Rape Suspect FREED

First published March 19th 2014, 8:19 am

LONDON -- Detectives searching for new leads in the case of missing British girl Madeleine McCann have "identified a potential linked series of 12 crimes" that may be related to her 2007 disappearance.

London's Metropolitan Police revealed on Wednesday that a male intruder had sexually assaulted five girls in their beds between 2004 and 2006 near Portugal's Praia da Luz resort, where McCann was staying when she vanished.

"Officers have identified a potential linked series of 12 crimes which occurred between 2004 and 2010, mostly in low season, whereby a male intruder has gained access to mainly holiday villas occupied by U.K. families on holiday in the western Algarve," police said in a statement.

While the circumstances are "not identical" to the Madeleine McCann case, police said "there are many similar aspects to each of the incidents."

The statement added: "Witnesses describe the man as having dark (as in tanned) skin with short dark unkempt hair. He spoke in English with a foreign accent, his voice was described as slow, or possibly slurred.

"He was sometimes bare chested, some describe him as having a pot belly, and three victims said that he had a noticeable odor."

DCI Andy Redwood, the senior investigating officer, appealed for information about the culprit.

"We need to establish the identity of this man,” he added. "These offences are very serious and no one has been charged in connection with them. We also need to eliminate this man from our inquiries and ascertain whether these offences are linked to Madeleine's disappearance.”

Madeleine was three-years-old when she disappeared between the hours or 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., after her parents Kate and Gerry McCann left her with two young friends in their ground-floor apartment to dine at a restaurant around 150 feet away.

Portuguese police closed the original investigation in 2008. But after two years of reviewing case documents, the Metropolitan Police reopened the case in July 2013, saying there was a good chance Madeleine was still alive. Portuguese detectives followed suit in October.

Police also released a new computer-generated image of a suspect in October, described by police as being white, aged in his 30s, clean-shaven with short brown hair, and of medium build and height.

The Metropolitan Police have offered a $33,000 reward for information on the case.

Update re: VIDEO: Madeleine McCann >New Lead & Con-Man Who Stole £1 Mill from Fund to Find Her

Madeleine McCann Suspect 'is Female': Police Hunt Woman Spotted Close to Disappearance in 'Hugely Significant Line of Inquiry', 10 Years After Madeleine Disappeared

British detectives working on the Madeleine McCann case are still pursuing “critical” leads as the 10th anniversary of her disappearance approaches, a Scotland Yard chief has said
.

Scotland Yard are hoping to speak to a woman that they believe could hold the key to discovering what happened to Madeleine McCann a decade ago, sources have said.

Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said there are “significant investigative avenues” that are of “great interest” to both the UK and Portuguese teams.

Madeleine vanished from the family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal on May 3 2007 when she was three years old – with her mother Kate saying the 10th anniversary is a “horrible marker of time, stolen time”.

Officers have sifted through some 40,000 documents and looked at more than 600 individuals since 2011 with Mr Rowley confirming that four people considered as possible suspects in 2013 have been ruled out.

Detectives are understood to have scoured Europe looking for the woman who was spotted near the family’s holiday apartment in the Portugese resort of Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007, when Madeleine disappeared.

Sources have claimed that they are ready to "move in" and interview the women in a "hugely significant line of inquiry".

It comes on the tenth anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance.

To mark the occasion her parents Kate and Gerry gave a moving interview in which they said they would do “whatever it takes for as long as it takes” to find their daughter.

A source told the Sunday Express: "Detectives have scoured Europe looking for this woman who is thought to hold the key to solving the entire case.

"After months of tireless police work they will soon be in a position to move in and finally get some answers after a decade of dead ends. It is a hugely significant line of inquiry that officers hope could lead to an arrest."

Scotland Yard's Assistant Commissioner, Mark Rowley, last week said his team would never give up hope of finding out what happened to Madeleine who was three when she went missing.

The initial Portuguese police investigation was closed in 2009, but in 2011 the British government provided the Metropolitan Police with funding to review the case.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said that they could not discuss details of any ongoing investigation.

As part of their six-year-long review of the case British officers have examined more than 40,000 documents and investigated around 600 people of interest.

In 2013 four potential suspects were identified and interviewed by police in Portugal, but they were all subsequently eliminated from enquiries.

Kate and her husband Gerry McCann, both Doctors, of Rothley, Leicestershire, have always vowed to never give up hope of finding their daughter.

Asked if police were any closer to solving the case than they were six years ago when the UK investigation was launched, Mr Rowley said:

“I know we have a significant line of inquiry which is worth pursuing, and because it’s worth pursuing it could provide an answer, but until we’ve gone through it I won’t know whether we are going to get there or not.
“Ourselves and the Portuguese are doing a critical piece of work and we don’t want to spoil it by putting titbits of information out publicly.”

Kate and Gerry McCann (Dominic Lipinski/PA)

Mr Rowley said they are no longer the subject of further investigation and have been ruled out of the inquiry. Meanwhile, police working on the case continue to receive information on a daily basis.
He described the possibility of a “burglary gone wrong” as a “sensible hypothesis” which has not been “entirely ruled out”.

The senior officer was asked about the theory of a sex predator being responsible for Madeleine’s disappearance.
Mr Rowley said:

“That’s been one key line of inquiry. The reality is in the modern world in any urban area if you cast your net widely you will find a whole pattern of offences.
“You will find sex offenders who live nearby. And those coincidences need to be sifted out, what’s a coincidence and what may be linked to the investigation that you are currently doing.
“Offences which may be linked have to be looked at and either ruled in or ruled out.”

Mr Rowley said there was still a “lot unknown” in the case, adding: “All the different hypotheses have to remain open.”

Madeleine McCann Prime Suspect is German Prisoner Identified by Police as Sex Offender

A 43-year-old German
paedophile with multiple convictions, who has not been named, has been identified as a suspect in the case of Madeleine McCann, who went missing on the Algarve coast in May, 2007

BBC, 4 JUN 2020

The Metropolitan Police have not named the man who is described as white with short blond hair, possibly fair, and about 6ft tall with a slim build.

The 43-year-old drifter, who was living in a camper van close to where Maddie went missing, is considered a prime suspect in the case.

According to the German Federal Criminal Police Office the suspect is a sex offender with multiple previous convictions.

Christian Hoppe, of the office, told the country's ZDF television channel that he is currently serving a prison sentence for a sex crime and has two previous convictions for "sexual contact with girls".

Mr Hoppe said German police have not ruled out a sexual motive.

The German national is known to have been in and around Praia da Luz on the Algarve coast at the time Maddie vanished on May 3, 2007 while on holiday with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, and her twin siblings Sean and Amelie.

A half-hour phone call was made to his Portuguese mobile phone around an hour before Maddie is believed to have gone missing.

The suspect, who is in prison in Germany for an unrelated matter, has been linked to an early 1980s camper van - with a white upper body and yellow skirting, registered in Portugal - which was pictured in the Algarve in 2007.

Scotland Yard said he was driving the vehicle in the Praia da Luz area in the days before Maddie's disappearance and is believed to have been living in it for days or weeks before and after May 3.

He has also been linked to a 1993 Jaguar XJR6 with a German number plate seen in Praia da Luz and surrounding areas in 2006 and 2007.

The day after Maddie went missing, the suspect got the car re-registered in Germany under someone else's name, although it is believed the vehicle was still in Portugal.

Both vehicles have been seized by German police.

Scotland Yard is launching a joint appeal with the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany (BKA) and the Portuguese Policia Judiciaria (PJ).

A statement from Madedy's parents, read by Det Chief Insp Mark Cranwell said: "We welcome the appeal today regarding the disappearance of our daughter Madeleine.

The search for Maddie continues (Image: PA)

"We would like to thank the police officers involved for their continued efforts in the search for Madeleine.

"All we have ever wanted is to find her, uncover the truth and bring those responsible to justice.

"We will never give up hope of finding Madeleine alive, but whatever the outcome may be, we need to know as we need to find peace."

The Met's investigation has identified more than 600 people as being potentially significant and were tipped off about the German national, already known to detectives, following a 2017 appeal 10 years after she went missing.

German police are treating her disappearance as a murder investigation but the Met's Operation Grange, launched in 2013, has always considered the case a missing person inquiry.

Kate and Gerry have been searching for Maddie ever since (Image: ExpressStar)

Mr Cranwell told reporters on Wednesday he was taking the "really unusual" step of releasing two mobile phone numbers as part of the appeal.

The first, (+351) 912 730 680, is believed to have been used by the suspect and received a call from another Portuguese mobile, (+351) 916 510 683, while in the Praia da Luz area, starting at 7.32pm and ending at 8.02pm on the night of May 3 2007.

Maddie is believed to have disappeared between 9.10pm and 10pm that evening.

The van was registered in Portugal (Image: PA)

The caller, who is not thought to have been in the Praia da Luz area, is not being treated as a suspect, but is said to be a "key witness" in the case.

"Any information in relation to these mobile numbers during the spring and summer of 2007 could be critical to this investigation," said Mr Cranwell.

"Some people will know the man we are describing today, the suspect in our investigation. I'm appealing to you directly.

The Met has identified 600 people as being potentially significant since Maddie disappeared (Image: Everton FC/PA)

"You may know, you may be aware of some of the things he has done. He may have confided in you about the disappearance of Madeleine.

"More than 13 years have passed and your loyalties may have changed.

"This individual is in prison and we are conscious that some people may have been concerned about contacting police in the past. Now is the time to come forward.

"I'm appealing to you to contact us, or the German authorities or the Portuguese authorities.

"I should be very, very clear on this - while this male is a suspect, we retain an open mind as to his involvement."

The suspect is known to have been linked to the Praia da Luz area between 1995 and 2007, with some short spells in Germany, and is described as having a "transient lifestyle", living in his camper van for days at a time.

Both vehicles have been seized by German police (Image: PA)

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the camper van in or around Praia da Luz on the night Madeleine went missing, the days before or weeks after.

Detectives also want to speak with anyone who saw the van together with the Jaguar, or individually, during the spring and summer of 2007.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy said the investigation into the suspect had seen Met detectives sent to Portugal and Germany.

He added: "This is a significant development, which is why we've made the decision to take this significant step of making a public appeal on some information that we would not normally talk about in our major investigations."

Ever since her disappearance 13 years ago, the McCanns have vowed never to give up hope of finding their daughter.

The ceaseless campaign to locate the missing girl has frequently forced Kate and Gerry to recall the day their "perfect family" was hit by "horror".

On May 3 2007, the couple, from Rothley, Leicestershire, left their three children asleep in their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in southern Portugal while they had dinner with friends at a nearby tapas restaurant.

Gerry found nothing amiss when he checked on the youngsters just after 9pm, but when his wife returned at about 10pm she discovered the three-year-old was missing.

Driven by an "almost feral reaction" they carried out a desperate search and raised the alarm, but from that night their lives would never be the same again.

German prosecutors said on Thursday they believe Madeleine is dead, and they are investigating a 43-year-old German man on suspicion of murder.

New suspect Christian Brueckner, now 43, in a blurred image

A blurred image of Brueckner emerged shortly before prosecutors confirmed their tragic suspicions and said they had determined the method used to kill the youngster.

German investigators have not ruled out a sexual motive in the McCann case.

A former neighbour said the new suspect in Madeleine McCann's disappearance left behind wigs and exotic clothing when he abruptly moved out of a ramshackle building between Lagos and Praia da Luz in 2006

The prime suspect in Madeleine McCann's disappearance and suspected murder lived in a "disgusting" and "absolutely vile" farm building, and left behind wigs and exotic clothing when he abruptly moved out, it is claimed.

The German man, now 43, was "always a bit angry" and rented the ramshackle building from a British man two miles from the Praia da Luz resort where Madeleine vanished aged three in May 2007.

German prosecutors said on Thursday they are investigating the man on suspicion of murdering Madeleine and they believe she is dead.

Former neighbours said he made money selling cars and “disappeared without a word” in 2006, months before police believe the British girl was snatched from her family's holiday apartment.

The suspect - a paedophile convicted of child sexual abuse and currently in prison for reportedly raping an American tourist in the same resort in 2005 - lived a "transient" lifestyle, it has been claimed.

It is believed he moved into a camper van after leaving the farm building between Lagos and Praia da Luz.

Vital Mistakes Made by Portuguese Police After Madeleine Vanished

It was a blunder that meant the prime suspect in Madeleine McCann's abduction spent a decade at liberty. The 43-year-old German man suspected of murdering the three-year-old was discounted by Portuguese police just months after her disappearance.

It can be revealed that the convicted child sex offender, drug dealer and burglar - named as Christian B - was first investigated by Portugal's Policia Judiciaria at the time.

But, as The Telegraph UK Crime Correspondent Martin Evans reports, he was ruled out when detectives changed the focus of their investigation and wrongly declared Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, to be official suspects.

Madeleine McCann is Now Believed Dead, say German Prosecutors

Madeleine McCann is believed to have died and German public prosecutors say they have 'determined the method' after announcing they have a key suspect in the long-running case

Christian Hoppe, from Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), had told German media last night the 43-year-old is serving a prison sentence for a sex crime and has two previous convictions for "sexual contact with girls".

Mr Hoppe also said German police have not ruled out a sexual motive for the alleged crime against Madeleine, which is being treated as murder by the BKA.

The German national is known to have been in and around the area on the Algarve coast at the time Madeleine went missing from the resort in Praia de Luz she was staying in with her family.

German authorities said yesterday a half-hour phone call was made to the suspect's Portuguese mobile phone around an hour before Madeleine is believed to have gone missing.

Scotland Yard has released pictures of a vehicle linked to the suspect, as British investigators urge the public to come forward with any information.

The suspect has been linked to an early 1980s VW T3 Westfalia camper van - with a white upper body and yellow skirting, registered in Portugal - which was pictured in the Algarve in 2007.

Scotland Yard said he was driving the vehicle in the Praia da Luz area in the days before Madeleine's disappearance and is believed to have been living in it for days or weeks before and after May 3.

He has also been linked to a 1993 Jaguar XJR6 with a German number plate seen in Praia da Luz and surrounding areas in 2006 and 2007.

The day after Madeleine went missing, the suspect had the car re-registered in Germany under someone else's name, although it is believed the vehicle was still in Portugal.

Madeleine McCann German PEDO Suspect Told Pal He'd Snatched Her as They Watched News Report in Pub

The suspect, a 43-year-old German national named in media reports as Christian Brueckner, allegedly confessed to her abduction on the 10th anniversary of her disappearance, according to reports

Daily Mirror UK, 6 JUN 2020

The paedophile suspect in the Madeleine McCann investigation allegedly told a friend he'd 'snatched her' as they watched a TV news report in a pub.

The suspect is a 43-year-old German national named in media reports as Christian Brueckner and is reportedly serving a seven-year prison sentence for the rape of a 72-year-old American woman in Portugal in 2005.

Brueckner has also been convicted for sex offences against girls.

He and a pal were in a German bar watching a TV report on the case in 2017 when he allegedly said he knew what had happened to Madeleine, the Sun reports.

The alleged confession to her abduction came on the 10th anniversary of her disappearance.

Brueckner is also alleged to have shown to a witness video footage of him raping a woman.

Reports say this led to his conviction and being jailed in December last year for the rape of a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2005.

The claims come as police received hundreds of contacts from the public following the launch of a new appeal for information on Madeleine's disappearance.

DCI Mark Cranwell, who is leading the Metropolitan Police's Operation Grange investigation into the case, said more than 270 calls and emails had been received by 4pm on Thursday.

Der Spiegel reported the suspect is serving a prison sentence in Kiel (Image: Phil Harris)

It followed British, German and Portuguese authorities launching an appeal for information on Wednesday night relating to the suspect.

German prosecutors have said they believe Madeleine is dead and are investigating the child sex predator on suspicion of her murder.

The suspect known to have lived on the Algarve coast and his Portuguese mobile phone received a half-hour phone call in Praia da Luz around an hour before Madeleine, three, went missing on May 3 2007.

Scotland Yard said he was believed to have been living in a distinctive early 1980s VW T3 Westfalia camper van at the time and re-registered a 1993 Jaguar XJR6 in someone else's name the day after her disappearance.

Operation Grange still considers the case a missing person inquiry because there is no "definitive evidence whether Madeleine is alive or dead".

German newspaper Braunschweiger Zeitung have reported the suspect, who has been partially identified as Christian B by local media due to the country's strict rules on the naming of criminals, was convicted of rape in Braunschweig District Court in December last year.

Der Spiegel reported he is serving a prison sentence in Kiel, having been initially extradited from Portugal in 2017 and convicted of drug trafficking.

The German magazine said his criminal record contains a total of 17 entries, including child abuse while he was still a teenager.

Christian Hoppe, from Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), has said that German police have not ruled out a sexual motive for the alleged crime against Madeleine.

He said that the suspect may have broken into an apartment in the Ocean Club complex, where Madeleine was on holiday with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, and her twin siblings Sean and Amelie, before spontaneously kidnapping her.

German prosecutors said the suspect was living in the Algarve between 1995 and 2007, where he funded his lifestyle by committing crimes.

A £20,000 reward is available for information leading to the conviction of the person responsible for Madeleine's disappearance.

The Met's investigation was tipped off about the German national, already known to detectives, following a 2017 appeal 10 years after she went missing.

Madeleine disappeared shortly before her fourth birthday, while her parents were eating dinner with friends at a nearby tapas restaurant.

Kate and Gerry McCann, from Rothley, in Leicestershire, have welcomed the appeal, saying: "We will never give up hope of finding Madeleine alive."

Madeleine McCann Suspect Linked to Boy, 6, Who Disappeared From Beach in 1996

German detectives have contacted the father of René Hasee today for the first time in 20 years, following the child's sudden disappearance from a beach in Portugal

Daily Mirror UK, 6 JUN 2020

The prime suspect in the Madeleine McCann disappearance case has been linked to a school boy snatched 11 years earlier

The German detectives who are investigating Christian Brueckner, 43, have contacted the family of René Hasee.

They have told his relatives that they are looking into his 1996 abduction again.

The young boy was running along the beach of Aljezur ahead of his parents while on a walk.

His parents lost sight of René for a moment and then they never saw him again.

All that they were left with were his clothes, which were lying on the beach.

Christian Brueckner is the prime suspect in the Madeleine McCann case (Image: SPIEGEL TV)

Aljezur is 25 miles way from Praia da Luz in the Algarve, where Maddie went missing.

In 1995 Brueckner was thought to be living in the area.

At that point he had already been convicted of sex offences against children, despite being just 19 at the time.

René’s dad Andreas Hase said he was contacted by the police today for the first time in 20 years.

He admitted that there may be a "connection" between his son's disappearance and Maddie's.

"He was actually also a very careful child, he would not have easily climbed into the Atlantic alone," he told The Sun.

"Of course you start thinking, yes. I don't imagine that René is still alive."

Prosecutors Reopen Probe Into Madeleine McCann Suspect Over Girl's Disappearance in 2015

Inga Gehricke, then aged five, vanished from Diakoniewerk Wilhelmshof in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, during a family outing - with police now opening a preliminary investigation into whether Christian Brueckner was involved

Daily Mirror UK, 6 JUN 2020

Earlier today it was reported that prosecutors have reopened an investigation into Brueckner over another girl's disappearance in 2015.

Inga Gehricke vanished from Diakoniewerk Wilhelmshof in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, during a family outing.

Then aged five, Inga disappeared on May 2, 2015 - 48 miles away from where the suspect owned a home.

She had gone to look for wood for a fire in the forest but "did not return," according to ZDF.de.

His property in Neuwegersleben, Saxony-Anhalt, was searched in February 2016 in connection with Inga's disappearance, according to the Volksstimme newspaper.

However the line of inquiry was not pursued further, reports said.

Brueckner reportedly had no alibi but the case was closed just four weeks in.

Detectives searched for years but did not find a trace of young Inga, in a case that has been compared to Maddie's.

In a 2017 interview Inga’s mum Victoria gave to Stern, she said: "My feeling tells me that she is still alive."

She said initially she thought 'you will definitely find my child, it is just a matter of time'.

Brueckner has been convicted for sex offences against girls.

Police Tip on Brueckner as Madeleine McCann Suspect 7 Years Ago Was Ignored

Police in Braunschweig, Germany, sent a tip about Christian Brueckner to the Federal Criminal Office (BKA) in 2013 but it was allegedly not acted on

Daily Mirror UK, 6 JUN 2020

A tip flagging Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner to German authorities seven years ago was allegedly ignored.

Police in Braunschweig, Germany, received a tip about about Brueckner in 2013 and sent it on to the Federal Office of Criminal Investigation, according to reports.

But local reports say the tip was ignored.

German magazine Spiegel reported: "One person did submit a tip about Brueckner but the resulting report from police in Braunschweig to the Federal Office of Criminal Investigation was apparently not acted upon, much to the consternation of the local investigators."

According to the Daily Mail, at the time police were constantly monitoring the 43-year-old suspect.

This comes as Portuguese police face fresh scrutiny over missed opportunities to focus on the local sex criminal in their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

They have previously been widely criticised for their handling of the case, missing chances to secure potentially key forensic evidence in the apartment room from where Madeleine was taken.

Madeleine McCann Suspect Investigated Over Link to Death of Mutilated Teen Carola Titze

Madeleine McCann Suspect Walked Into Police Trap Dirty, Unshaven and Clutching Bible

Police in Belgium, Germany and Portugal are now investigating whether Christian Brueckner was involved in the deaths of Carola Titze, 16, René Hasse, six, Inga Gehricke, five, and Madeleine McCann, three

Daily Mirror UK, 7 JUN 2020

Police in Belgium are investigating whether Christian Brueckner is linked to the killing of Carola Titze

Madeleine McCann murder suspect Christian Brueckner is now being investigated in connection with four child disappearances, according to reports.

Police in Belgium are trying to establish whether there was a link between the 43-year-old paedophile and the death of Carola Titze, who was just 16 when she was killed.

Since he was named as a suspect in Madeleine's 2007 disappearance, he has also reportedly been linked with the disappearance of René Hasse, six, in the Algarve in 1996, and that of five-year-old Inga Gehricke in 2015.

Carola's mutilated body was found in sand dunes in De Haan, West Flanders, where she was on holiday with her family.

In the days before she was killed, she had been to a disco with a mystery German man, who has never been located.

Commenting on the latest investigation into Madeleine's alleged killing, De Haan's mayor Wilfried Vandaele told VRT: "A shockwave went through our community when the body of Carola Titze was found in woodland in the dunes in 1996.

"Of course, we too want the perpetrator to be found at long last.

"Let's hope the German investigation can provide greater clarity."

Carola died weeks after René disappeared while he was on holiday at the Amoreiras beach in the Algarve - less than 30 miles from Praia da Luz - in 1996.

That case, too, is being reopened in light of the alleged breakthrough in the Madeleine investigation.

René was last seen running towards the sea, and only his clothes have been found since.

Prosecutors are also reportedly taking a fresh look at the abduction of five-year-old Inga Gehricke, who disappeared in Diakoniewerk Wilhelmshof in Saxony-Anhalt in 2015.

Police raided Brueckner's home in February the following year hoping to find evidence linking him to Inga.

Although they were unable to prove his involvement at the time, they did discover a large number of child abuse images on a USB stick.

Birte Iliev, a spokesman from the Stendal Public Prosecutor's Office, confirmed that the case has been reopened.

He said: "It is now being examined whether there is any new evidence in connection with the murder suspect in Braunschweig."

Brueckner is serving a seven year sentence for raping a 72-year-old woman in Praia da Luz, close to where Madeleine vanished.

It has been reported that a tip linking Brueckner, 43, with Madeleine's disappearance was not acted on for seven years.

Police in Braunschweig, Germany, received a tip about about Brueckner in 2013 and sent it on to the Federal Office of Criminal Investigation, according to reports.

But local reports say the tip was ignored.

Der Spiegel reported: "One person did submit a tip about Brueckner but the resulting report from police in Braunschweig to the Federal Office of Criminal Investigation was apparently not acted upon, much to the consternation of the local investigators."

Madeleine was abducted from a room in the Ocean Club holiday complex in the area on May 3 2007.

Brueckner is known to have been living in Praia da Luz between 1995 and 2007.

Hans Christian Wolters, a spokesman for the Braunschweig Public Prosecutor's Office, said: "In connection with the disappearance of the three-year-old British girl Madeleine McCann on May 3 2007 from an apartment complex in Praia da Luz, in Portugal, the Braunschweig prosecution is investigating against a 43-year-old German on suspicion of murder.

"We are assuming that the girl is dead.

"With the suspect, we are talking about a sexual predator who has already been convicted of crimes against little girls and he's already serving a long sentence."

He said the suspect was regularly living in the Algarve between 1995 and 2007, where he worked jobs in the gastronomy business, but funded his lifestyle by committing crimes, including thefts in hotel complexes and apartments, as well as drug dealing.

He added: "The Braunschweig prosecution is now concerned because before going abroad he last had his residence in Braunschweig."

Madeleine McCann Suspect Walked Into Police Trap Dirty, Unshaven and Clutching Bible

EXCLUSIVE: Christian Brueckner was seized by armed officers in Milan while on the run from his home country Germany. The arrest took place in 2018 and was Brueckner’s last moment of freedom

Daily Mirror UK, 7 JUN 2020

Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner walked into a police trap clutching a BIBLE.

The convicted paedophile was seized by armed officers in Milan while on the run from his home country Germany.

The bizarre arrest took place in 2018 and was 43-year-old Brueckner’s last moment of freedom.

Italian officers today told how the man suspected of kidnapping three-year-old Madeleine from a holiday flat in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in 2007 cut a “pathetic figure”.

Lieutenant Andrea Papa, part of the city’s elite murder squad, said:

“When we arrested him we could see the surprise on his face – he was really worried.

“He seemed like someone who lived on the streets. He was unshaved and his clothes were dirty. He smelled bad.

The bizarre arrest took place in 2018 and was 43-year-old Brueckner’s last moment of freedom

“He was in jeans, trainers and a military jacket. He had no phone or money, just a Bible and a business card with his lawyer’s number.

“He seemed pathetic. We even felt sorry for him and gave him a bottle of water.”

Now Colonel Michele Miulli, commander of the crime-hardened squad who usually deal with Mafia horrors, says it has “touched their soul” to learn Brueckner is being linked to the McCann case.

Police pounced on the German – who also has two convictions for abusing young girls – after a fake appointment which was set up for him to collect a fresh passport at the German consulate in Milan.

Brueckner had first turned up there on September 19 asking for new ID documents.

He said he had just arrived from Switzerland and they were stolen from him while he was asleep on a train.

But German officials realised he was a fugitive after picking up a drug conviction. So they prepared an international arrest warrant and asked Italian police to seize him.

“We agreed a time with the consulate and set our trap on September 28, said Lt Papa.

“We had a description of him as blond and tall and we waited out of sight near the entrance.

“At first he didn’t want to come with us but then he saw there were six of us so he didn’t resist. He looked like a homeless person."

Brueckner did not speak Italian so he asked police in English what he was being arrested for.

Then he asked to ring his lawyer in Germany. The German was at first told he could fight extradition and serve his sentence in Italy – so he asked his captors if the prison in Milan was nicer than German prisons.

“It’s really old and overcrowded but we don’t like to upset arrestees so we just said, ‘You’ll see, you can decide,’..... to keep him calm,” recalled Lt Papa.

“We are used to arresting serious criminals and usually know their background because we have studied them in the run up to the arrest.

“But in this case he was a complete unknown. When we heard the news about the McCann case this week we were very struck, more surprised than he was when he was arrested.

“We all remembered him because we hardly ever arrest Germans. It doesn’t usually happen that you arrest someone for something small like drugs and it turns out that they have done something massively evil.

“We never thought children were involved. He was very humble. Nothing about him would make you think he was such a serious criminal.”

A few hours after his arrest, Brueckner was on his way to the city’s notorious San Vittore jail to await extradition proceedings which took place a few weeks later.

Last year, back in Germany, he was found guilty of raping a 72-year-old American woman in Portugal in 2005 and given seven years. He is appealing over the conviction and is currently behind bars for a drug trafficking conviction.

He claims his extradition to Germany was unlawful because it related to the drug charge rather than the rape.

Col Michele Miulli is stunned by McCann case link

Meanwhile Col Miulli, commander of the Carabinieri investigative unit that planned his arrest, said news that Brueckner was linked to such a world famous child abduction case had stunned officers involved in his capture.

“Most of them are parents,” he said. “We investigate some of the most serious crimes, but when you hear that children were involved it touches your soul. Anyone who touches children is evil, inhuman.

“They need care and protection. So it gives us a small gratification that he was caught, but also we felt a lot of bitterness and sadness because we remember the story of Maddie from years ago and the suffering of the parents. It is a story that is too sad and ugly to give us much satisfaction.”

He said Brueckner’s activity in Italy before his arrest was now also under scrutiny with police searching databases to find out when he entered Italy and whether he had been stopped by law enforcement here.

Col Miulli said: “We believe he was not here long as he had no documents or money. It is complicated as there aren’t traces of when he entered Italy because the border is open, and he was never stopped by police. He had no phone and gave no address to the consulate.

“If we get any information that he spent time in Italy, a contact or address, phone number, or if the German police ask us to interview a potential witness we will investigate further.”

Madeleine McCann Police Receive Almost 400 Tip-Offs After New Suspect Announced

Scotland Yard say hundreds of people have come forward following the announcement that Christian Brueckner is a suspect in the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann

Information continues to pour into Scotland Yard’s Maddie squad Operation Grange.

Daily Mirror UK, 7 JUN 2020

A force spokesperson said today: "We have now received just short of 400 pieces of information. We are pleased with the amount of calls and emails coming in and we are assessing them and prioritising them."

German prosecutors believe Madeleine is dead and are investigating paedophile Brueckner, 43, on suspicion of her murder.

But British officers are still treating it as a missing persons case.

Madeleine McCann Suspect's British Ex-Girlfriend Claims: 'I Found Beast Waiting For Me Under My Bed'

WORLD EXCLUSIVE: The woman from Berkshire, who dated Christian Brueckner when she worked as a barmaid in the Algarve, has told of her relationship with the 'charming' and 'softly-spoken' German who she said turned into a possessive, violent cheat and a stalker

Daily Mirror UK, 11 JUN 2020

Christian Brueckner broke into his British ex’s flat through a window and lay in wait for her under her bed in chilling echoes of the Madeleine McCann case.

The disturbing incident took place hours after he brutally attacked her in a jealous rage after she innocently hugged another man, she told the Mirror.

She claims he repeatedly slammed her head against a wall in the ladies toilets of the Algarve bar where she worked - leaving her a bloodied mess.

When the woman returned home she had a “horrible feeling” someone was inside and found Brueckner under her bed.

The 45-year-old believes the German was lying in wait to attack her if she brought another man back to her studio flat.

But instead Brueckner, then aged in his late 20s, chillingly stared at her and said “goodbye” before fleeing.

She said he then embarked on a stalking campaign against the petite barmaid, leaving her too afraid to walk home alone.

Portuguese police were twice called out to deal with Brueckner after she complained of the attack and stalking - but he was never charged.

The 2005 break-in has eery similarities with Madeleine’s disappearance two years later in nearby Praia da Luz, where he was living.

Gerry McCann previously said he believed her abductor was hiding behind a door when he went to check on her.

Investigators believe the person who took Madeleine broke into their holiday apartment through a window.

The woman, who is still too scared of Brueckner to reveal her identity, today reveals her account of her relationship with the Madeleine suspect.

When the woman first met Brueckner she said he was 'charming' but this soon changed (Image: BILD)

She tells the Mirror how the German:

• Seduced her when they worked together waiting tables in an Algarve restaurant.

• Flew into jealous rages when other men paid her attention or even spoke to her.

• Branded her a “lazy Brit” when she refused his demands to clean his house.

• Chillingly broke into her flat through an open window and hid under the bed after a bust-up.

• Now believes her ex, who is in a German prison, could be responsible for Madeleine’s abduction.

She said: “Until now I’ve refused to believe someone I was involved with could commit such a horrible and disgusting thing like hurting a child.

“But I’m not sure anymore. I’m starting to wonder if he did do it. And if he did, he needs to be really punished for it.

She says police have contacted her over her relationship with Brueckner - and asked her about their sex life (Image: Roland Leon / Daily Mirror)

“It’s chilling to think my ex is suspected of abducting Madeleine McCann. I can’t cope with it.”

The woman, from Berkshire, moved to the Algarve town of Lagos in late 2003 after spending several years in the Netherlands.

She landed a job in the Taberna de Lagos restaurant - now called Sal e Companhia - alongside Brueckner, a waiter who was two years her junior.

“At first I didn’t actually like him that much,” she recalled in a softly-spoken southern accent. “Not for any reason, I just didn’t like him.

“I was 28, he was a couple of years younger than me. Everyone called him Chris.

“He liked me, I knew he liked me in ‘that’ way but I wasn’t interested. We slowly became friends in the spring of 2004.

“Chris could be very, very charming, very funny and very smooth in the way he talked.

“He always dressed nicely, holding the door open for women, that kind of thing.

“I was alone here in Portugal, no family around and a bit lonely and I was getting all this attention from this guy.

“We got together romantically and at first it was great. The relationship was very nice.”

The woman stayed over regularly at Brueckner’s rented farmhouse on the outskirts of Praia da Luz, less than a mile from the Ocean Club.

“I was living in a little flat by myself on the same road as the restaurant where we worked,” she said.

“He was living in Luz in the house that has been on the news all week. He was living on his own.

“He wasn’t sleazy in the beginning, he was very charming, even chivalrous.

“He drove the nice car - the black Jaguar - and was very gentlemanly and spoke properly.

“Our sex life was normal. He wasn’t into anything weird with me.

“We used to go out to eat a lot. He wasn’t a veggie. He liked to eat Indian food.

“He also liked German food. I remember in his house once he made strange German food that I didn’t like at all.

“He liked taking me to the beach. He didn’t like the town beach in Lagos. It would always be the West coast beaches, the isolated ones.

“He liked those because he didn’t like lots of crowds, that’s what he said. He didn’t like all the tourists in the summer.

“At first he seemed very easy-going, very relaxed, but gradually after summer things changed.

“During the summer it was good, but during the winter it started to get not so good.”

Her first inkling that things were not right came when she bumped into a male friend in Lagos in late 2004.

Madeleine vanished in 2007 and German police now believe she is dead (Image: PA)

Kate and Gerry McCann pictured in 2007 as they make an appeal for three-year-old Madeleine's return (Image: PA)

“We were chatting and suddenly he stopped talking to me, like he was spooked or suddenly remembered something,” she said.

“Someone later told me Christian had previously threatened the guy because he’d seen us speaking before.

“We also started to argue in the late autumn, early winter.

“It would be small things. He would get angry about really small things and I would get upset.

“I remember he lost it once because I didn’t clean his house. I said ‘I’ve got my own house to clean, I don’t live here.’

“He was like, ‘You should clean my house, you’re a woman’.

“He said he had two Portuguese girlfriends before me and they both cleaned his house even though they never lived there.

“I remember saying, ‘but I’m not Portuguese’, and he replied saying ‘English women are all lazy’.

“He said he had seen an English girl for a little while and she was lazy like me.

“He called her Carol, I think it was only for a few weeks, she was on holiday and they had a fling.

“He started to get possessive but it wasn’t to my face, it was behind my back.

(Image: Roland Leon / Daily Mirror)

“He also began going back and forwards to Germany over that time. He’d stay one week in Germany, then back to Portugal.

“I remember feeling suspicious, like something strange was going on, so I looked at his phone.

“I found messages in German from someone called ‘B’ saying ‘Ich liebe dich’ - I love you.

“It was a German number, and obviously he had been going back and forth to Germany, so I put two and two together.

“I confronted him about those and he went crazy, completely crazy. We had a huge fight.”

Worse was to come weeks later when Brueckner flew into his jealous rage at the Metro Bar - now called Little Breakfast - in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

“I started New Year’s Eve working in Taberna de Lagos and then after midnight I worked at another bar,” she recalled.

“Chris was at the bar and was drunk.

“Some really nice guys I’d made friends with came in from the bar next door to say happy New Year and gave me a hug.

“Chris just suddenly came round the bar in a crazy rage and dragged me out in front of everybody.

“He grabbed me by the neck, pulled me into the girls toilets and was ramming my head against the wall.

“There were people pulling him off me, I think it took four big guys to get him off me.

“They called the police and some officers came. I was on the floor and couldn’t move because I was in shock.

“I didn’t talk to the police because I was scared of what he would do if it meant he got arrested.

“The police soon left after I said I didn’t want to deal with them.

“I stayed there the rest of the night recovering and eventually two friends, a guy and his girlfriend, walked me back to my flat.

“I went through the security gate and up two flights of stairs, into my flat and closed the door.

“Something was really strange inside there. It’s hard to explain, something just felt strange.

“I went into the bathroom and the toilet seat was up. I always put the toilet seat down, it’s what I do, so it was another clue.

“I was sure someone was either in there or had been in there.

“I started looking in the cupboards and then thought I’d check under the bed.

“I peeked under and got the shock of my life. He was hiding under there, lying on his back, staring at me.

“Can you imagine how that felt? I just froze. I didn’t know what he was going to do to me.

“He got out from under the bed, acted like everything was normal, said goodbye to me, walked out and closed the door behind him.

“I was there all alone, just shaking and shaking.

“I think he was there waiting to see whether I brought anyone home with me.

“To this day I still wonder what would have happened if I had brought someone back that night.

“Our sex life was normal. He wasn’t into anything weird with me." (Image: Roland Leon / Daily Mirror)

“I think, from the previous behaviour, he would have really, really hurt that person and me too.”

Despite the vicious beating and break-in, she enraged her friends by rekindling their relationship weeks later.

“A lot of people were very, very angry that I went back to him after what had happened on New Year’s Eve,” she admitted.

“He begged for my forgiveness, saying he lost control because he was drunk and would not drink again.

“He wasn’t a big drinker when we were together, so stupidly I believed him and we got back together with him.

“But it was never the same.”

The final straw came in mid-2005 when she found women’s underwear in a bag belonging to Brueckner.

“I found a pair of knickers that weren’t mine and I got really, really upset about that,” she said.

“I confronted him about it at his place and again he went totally crazy.

“He drove me back to Lagos. I got out of his car and that was it as far as I was concerned.”

But Brueckner had other ideas and began stalking his ex and staking out the restaurant where she worked.

“We had to call the police because he kept trying to get in,” she said. “He was stalking me constantly.

“One day I was carrying a big tray of drinks and because I wouldn’t talk to him he knocked them out of my hand and they went everywhere.

“The police were called and he was banned from coming inside.

The woman only discovered the link to the Madeleine McCann investigation when British and German police made their dramatic appeal last week

“So he would wait outside and follow me. Sometimes it would be begging me to go back with him.

“But other times it would be him threatening me or saying I’m going to find out where your parents are and do something to them.

“People had to walk me home each night. There was someone each night. Eventually it stopped but it went on for a long while.”

She told how Brueckner had a string of ‘relationships’ with older women that led her to believe he could be a gigolo.

“There was one lady he used to take out to dinner sometimes, she was a bit older, and he said it was just for company,” she said.

“There was another lady, she was much older and I think there may have been something going on between them.

“He used to walk her dog and clean her apartment - at least that’s what he told me - and she gave him money for that.

“She lived in the centre of town. He took me to her house a couple of times, to see her dog.

“He used to go to people’s houses a lot, saying he was going to visit this person and that person.

“But the more I think about it the more I wonder what else he was doing.

“At the end of the day I never found out who the other underwear belonged to, or who ‘B’ was.

“A friend of mine said to me she wondered if he was some sort of gigolo, doing things for money with older women.

“Looking back on it maybe I was very, very naive at that time. I was a lot younger, a lot more impressionable.”

The woman moved on with her life but was stunned to get a visit from Portuguese police officers last year.

They quizzed her about a rape Brueckner carried out on an American pensioner in Praia da Luz in 2005, shortly after they split.

But they never mentioned the Madeleine McCann investigation - even though British and German police already suspected his involvement.

“I remember the Madeleine case. I remember being here in Portugal when it happened,” she said.

“At first I thought they would find her, but they didn’t and then it became bigger and bigger.

“The Portuguese police have spoken to me three times in the past year, but never once did they say it was about Madeleine.

“They said it was about him, they were investigating him because they had found out he had raped an old lady in Luz in 2005.

“They wanted to know all about him. But I had no idea it was to do with Madeleine also.

“They asked me what the relationship was like, what the sex life was like, how he treated me, how he treated women.

“They wanted to know if he liked older women, younger women, what kind, what types.

“They asked me what people he knew, any names, contacts, and asked about the Jaguar car.

“I don’t remember them saying anything about the camper van. I never saw that.”

The woman only discovered the link to the Madeleine McCann investigation when British and German police made their dramatic appeal last week.

Hundreds of calls with fresh information have flooded into detectives since they released details of the suspect.

“The first I knew it was also about Madeleine was when someone sent me a link a few days ago,” said his ex.

“I was shocked and horrified. Really, really shocked. I couldn’t believe I had been with someone who could be capable of that.

“To imagine I’ve been with someone who is capable of hurting someone like that is sickening.

“It’s so hard for me to believe it’s true.

“I’ve had loads of people contacting me saying ‘Do you think it’s true? ‘I’m so shocked’, ‘I can’t believe it’.

“And I’m the same. Of course I would never have guessed it. How can anybody imagine something like that?

“There was absolutely no sign of him being into young children or young girls.

“I find the Madeleine thing really shocking. It’s shocking to discover he was a paedophile.

“I find it absolutely disgusting. It makes me feel sick. Not just sick, angry too.

“If the British police want to speak to me of course I would talk to them.

“If there is anything I can do to help find her or find out what happened to her then I’ll talk to them.”

Police Probing Madeleine McCann Suspect Find Kids Swimwear and 8,000 Sick Pics

Christian Brueckner has said he had nothing to do with the British toddler's disappearance in Praia da Luz in May 2007, his lawyer Friedrich Fulscher said

Daily Mirror UK, 17 JUN 2020

Girls' swimwear and 8,000 child abuse images were found by police investigating Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner, who has denied involvement in her disappearance.

His lawyer Friedrich Fulscher said he has spoken to the convicted rapist who is currently in solitary confinement in a German jail.

But he refused to say anything further beyond the denial as it emerged police found items of children’s clothing, including several girls’ swimsuits, in a Tiffin Allegro motor home that Brueckner used in Germany.

Six USB sticks with 8,000 vile child abuse images were also found among the bones of a dead dog at his derelict home in Germany.

Mr Fulscher was asked directly if his client had anything to do with Madeleine’s abduction, and replied that Brueckner “denied any involvement”.

The existence of the Winnebago-style motor home was revealed in a German TV documentary on Monday night.

The motor home was never seen in Portugal, where he had a campervan and a black Jaguar.

In Portugal, friends of Madeleine’s parents Gerry and Kate McCann accused German police of “playing games” with the heartbroken couple by failing to reveal what evidence they have that she is no longer alive.

German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolter confirmed he had written to the couple saying that Madeleine is dead – but without revealing how this was known. The McCanns said they had not yet received the letter.

But a source close to them said the time had come for prosecutors to tell them what they know. The source added: “It’s like Hans Christian Wolter is playing funny games with the McCanns, without being funny. Those close to the McCanns are getting really mad with the German approach.

“If this German prosecutor is insistent in his belief that Madeleine is dead, it’s time her parents were told what the evidence is.”

Kate and Gerry, from Rothley, Leics, have remained silent on the row between police forces involved in the investigation.

But it is very unusual for a close associate of the couple to criticise investigators in this way – and highlights the frustration they feel as answers have yet to be found 13 years after their daughter vanished.

Portuguese authorities have begged criminal friends of Brueckner, 43, to come forward – promising them immunity from prosecution.

It comes as it emerged Brueckner could be released from prison on July 17 if the European Court of Justice overturns his conviction for raping a 72-year-old American woman in Praia da Luz, the resort where Madeleine vanished in May 2007, at the age of three.

He is challenging the conviction because German police extradited him from Portugal for a separate drugs conviction, but then put him on trial for rape.

His lawyers are arguing that this was illegal.

The ruling is set to be made on July 16 in a hearing that has been fast-tracked because of the unusual circumstances of the case.
There are three potential outcomes of any ECJ ruling.

The first is that the Portuguese could give retrospective permission for the extradition on the rape charge, so that the conviction stands and Brueckner stays inside for his seven years sentence.

The second is that the ECJ could order a retrial of the rape.

The third possibility is that the judge could rule there should not have been a trial, the conviction is overturned, Brueckner is released and he cannot be rearrested.

He could then potentially leave and go to a country that does not have an extradition agreement with Germany.

However, Mr Wolters stressed this was a worst-case scenario and that he did not expect it to happen.

Brueckner is now under investigation for the sickening rape and murder of a 13-year-old boy in Frankfurt.

Tristan Brubach’s body was found in an underpass near the Frankfurt-Hochst train station.

He had been beaten unconscious, strangled, raped and tortured.
Frankfurt chief prosecutor Noah Kruger said: “We are checking whether there are any connections between the two cases.

“In itself, however, this is not unusual, but routine. The sequence of events and the e-fit from the Tristan case could be similar.”

Update re: Madeleine McCann Suspect Bragged He Kidnapped & SOLD Children

EXCLUSIVE:
Madeleine McCann Suspect's Best Friend Believes He Abducted Her and Sold Her.
Brueckner Allegedly Bragged He Kidnapped and SOLD Children

The best friend of Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner has dramatically claimed “I know he did it.

Michael Tatschl lived with Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner in Praia da Luz

Daily Mirror UK, 22 JUN 2020

Brueckner's best friend Michael Tatschl believes he is capable of abducting a child

Michael and his then girlfriend in 2017

Michael Tatschl lived with the German paedophile in Praia da Luz, where Madeleine vanished. He said: “He was a pervert and more than capable of snatching a child for sexual kicks or money.”

We can reveal that Austrian drifter Mr Tatschl was grilled last year by German and Austrian police investigating Madeleine’s disappearance.

He reportedly told them how his pal bragged about burgling rich tourists’ holiday apartments.

Mr Tatschl, 46, claimed that Brueckner, 43, also boasted about “selling kids” – although there as been no evidence found of this so far – and he fears Madeleine was sold to a sex ring.

He claimed: “He was always bragging about money and making money. He even talked about selling kids, maybe to Morocco.

“I think he probably sold Maddie to someone. Maybe a sex ring. I was living with him at the time. He was my best friend. I know he did it.”

Mr Tatschl claimed that Brueckner was obsessed with the dark web and suspects he used it to deal in pornography and drugs.

He also claimed Brueckner had a secret spot in his home in Praia da Lux where he kept stolen loot.

Mr Tatschl’s name emerged last week after Portuguese authorities granted access to Brueckner’s court records.

They showed Brueckner was locked up on remand with Mr Tatschl after they were caught stealing diesel from lorries.

Mr Tatschl, a dad of one who is now back in his native Austria, said he expects an arrest is “imminent” in Madeleine’s case.

In his first ever media interview, he described Brueckner as a “strange character”.

He said: “He was definitely a pervert. All his friends thought that about him. He had some sexual issues.

"I really hope they can finally close this case for the family and find Christian guilty for what he has done. He needs to admit it to the police.”

rueckner befriended Mr Tatschl in late 2005. Mr Tatschl began living with him in early 2006 at his farmhouse in Praia da Luz, Algarve, which Brueckner shared with his German girlfriend.

Mr Tatschl said: “I was staying at his house and camping in a van in the garden. We spent a lot of time together and had good fun. He did not take drugs at the time but liked to have a drink.”

Mr Tatschl claimed that Brueckner bragged about regularly robbing holiday flats.

He alleged: “He was a very good burglar and would easily climb up to first-floor apartments when tourists were out.

"He would steal money, valuables and passports. He had a hiding place in his house, in the roof. He had the money and passports hidden up there."

He added: “Christian was always on the dark web. I don’t know exactly what he did but I suspect it involved drugs and pornography.”

Mr Tatschl said he was “sucked in” to Brueckner’s life of crime.

In April 2006, the pair were caught by police stealing diesel from two lorries in Portimao, Algarve. They spent over eight months on remand in jail awaiting trial.

Mr Tatschl claimed that while they were in jail, Brueckner got a pal to clear his home of the alleged stolen loot.

He claimed: “He ordered a friend to get rid of any evidence of burglaries or robberies. But this guy and another friend ended up robbing the house and took all the valuables and money.

“They also got a video camera from the house, which was how I found out he was a sick b*****d.

"On that camera was a video of him raping an old woman. It was of this elderly lady who was chained to a wooden post and she was being beaten and raped.”

The campsite where Brueckner took the van

It is not believed that the woman in the video was the American pensioner Brueckner was later convicted of raping and is currently serving jail time for in Germany.

After Brueckner’s release from prison, he stayed in Praia da Luz, living in the VW Westfalia van that police later seized.

Mr Tatschl said: “I think that confused the police as they were not sure where he was living exactly when Maddie vanished. But he had his van and was living free.”

Mr Tatschl moved to the hippy enclave of Orgiva in Andalusia, Spain, in April 2007, weeks before Madeleine, three, vanished on May 3.

He said Brueckner turned up in “late May or early June” driving a Tiffin Allegro winnebago. It was in this vehicle that police found a stash of girls’ swimming costumes in 2016.

Brueckner also allegedly bragged he kidnapped and SOLD children and could hide “drugs and children” inside the 30ft-long van.

Mr Tatschl said: “He parked it up in Orgiva and came looking for me.

We all wondered where he’d got the money from? It was a big expensive thing. We assumed it was from a big drug deal or something like that. Now I suspect it was Maddie.

“He was only there for a couple of days and went on back to Germany. Mr Tatschl lost touch with Brueckner and returned to his native Austria several years ago to start a family.

It was while watching last year’s Netflix series The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann that he became convinced his friend was responsible.

He claimed: “When I saw the documentary I knew immediately that he was guilty.

"The part where the female tourist talked about the creepy guy with acne and blond hair, I just knew it was Christian for sure.”

Within weeks of the series airing, German and Austrian police knocked on Mr Tatschl’s door. He was interviewed by detectives over two days in April 2019.

He said: “They were very clear. They said, ‘We are investigating Maddie McCann and Christian Brueckner’.

“I was convinced it was him. I spent 14 hours talking about my time with Christian and what I knew about him.”

“I was sure it was him the minute the police came to find me.”

Asked why he did not contact police himself, he replied: “Perhaps I should have, but I don’t like the police very much.”

Footage of Madeleine McCann Suspect Christian Brueckner's Secret Lair

Video of the Factory Site in The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann

The video of the dilapidated factory site once owned by Christian Brueckner emerged as a German prosecutor said he has "strong evidence" the child sex predator killed Madeleine McCann

The Guardian UK, / 60 Minutes, 29 JUN. 2020

Chilling footage shows the 'secret lair' of the prime suspect in the disappearance and suspected murder of Madeleine.

The dilapidated factory site in northern Germany was once owned by Christian Brueckner, the 43-year-old paedophile suspected of abducting and murdering Maddie 13 years ago.

It is where German police allegedly found USB sticks and hard drives with more than 8,000 child abuse images buried next to the remains of a dead dog, and girls' swimsuits inside a motorhome owned by the suspect.

The video of the factory site was shown as German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters told the programme he has "strong evidence" Brueckner killed Madeleine, and refused to say whether investigators have found images of the missing British girl.

Footage of the property shows computer monitors and parts strewn around the property, abandoned furniture inside squalid rooms, plastic crates and buckets filled with items, and rundown structures being reclaimed by nature.

Police raided the deserted property in Neuwegersleben in 2016 while investigating the disappearance of five-year-old Inga Gehricke, who vanished in May 2015 and is still missing. She has been called the "German Maddie".

Officers found no evidence linking Brueckner to Inga and he was not charged in her disappearance. He was jailed over child abuse images found on the memory sticks.

German prosecutors are investigating Brueckner for murder in the McCann case. Mr Wolters said prosecutors suspect Madeleine is dead but did not reveal what makes them so sure.

He told 60 Minutes: "We have strong evidence that Madeleine McCann is dead and that our suspect killed her.

"We don't have the body and no parts of the body, but we have enough evidence to say our suspect killed Madeleine McCann."

Mr Wolters would neither confirm or deny if any of the images found at the factory site contained evidence of Madeleine.

He said: "At the moment, I'm not allowed to comment on that. So I'm not able to say if there are pictures or if there are no pictures of Madeleine."

The prosecutor also said a mobile phone linked to Brueckner was used in the immediate area of the McCann family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, the night the three-year-old disappeared on May 3, 2007.

He has told his German lawyer that he wasn't involved in the McCann disappearance. The suspect has refused to speak to detectives.

He is currently in prison in Kiel, in northern Germany, after being convicted of drug trafficking and raping a 72-year-old American woman.

Brueckner was jailed for seven years for the attack on the American woman in Praia da Luz in September 2005, about 18 months before Madeleine vanished.

German prosecutors suspect the child sex predator - previously convicted of sexually abusing two girls in Germany - may have attacked other women or girls.

Brueckner is challenging the rape conviction and has applied for parole after serving two-thirds of the 21-month drug sentence
.

There were fears he could be granted parole in July, but German prosecutors told the Mirror he has no chance of being freed.

Default Re: Madeleine McCann-UK/German/Portuguese Hold Summit to Find Where She Might Be Buri

Madeleine McCann UK Police Join Lisbon Summit to Find Where Tot Might Be Buried

Police in Germany are making a 'last roll of the dice' and with British and Portuguese counterparts reportedly looking to fine tune a profile of suspect Christian Brueckner with the aim of finding where Maddie may have been buried

Daily Mirror UK, 29 OCT. 2020.

British police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann reportedly held a crunch meeting with German and Portuguese counterparts.

The crunch talks were aimed at working out where she may have been buried after being kidnapped.

Detectives from Scotland Yard are said to have held talks in the Portuguese capital Lisbon.

German police officers leading the probe into suspect Christian Brueckner were said to be making a "final roll of the dice".

The meeting was held ostensibly to "find Madeleine McCann", with the aim of fine-tuning a police profile of convicted paedophile Brueckner to work out where the British girl may have been buried after her disappearance at the age of three on May 3, 2007.

The police summit was reported by Portuguese daily Correio da Manha and was said to have taken place “recently” at the Lisbon HQ of the Policia Judiciaria.

The police force is heading the Portuguese probe into the youngster’s May 3, 2007 disappearance.

The PJ handed over information relating to searches that had been carried out at locations in the Algarve but turned up nothing, Correio da Manha said.

It added: “Wells and ditches have been looked at with a fine tooth comb, but no signs of the remains of the missing girl have been found.

“Portuguese, British and German authorities haven’t given up and are continuing to try to gather information about the suspect’s past.

“They regard it as essential to work out his routine in 2007, when Madeleine disappeared and Christian Brueckner was living near the Ocean Club where she vanished from.”

Yesterday - Monday, October 26 - it was claimed German police want to return to the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz as part of a “final roll of the dice” in their investigation into convicted paedophile Brueckner.

The claim followed German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters’ admission that without new clues, the German 43-year-old will never be quizzed over missing Madeleine.

Mr Wolters told podcast They’ve Taken Her he was “hopeful” evidence would be found for police to charge and quiz Brueckner, but added: “At the moment our evidence is not so strong we are sure he will be sentenced by the court.

“Maybe we need more witnesses or photos or video, one witness who can tell us the things we don’t know.”

Three wells near Praia da Luz are known to have been searched in July but police and firefighters failed to find any trace of Madeleine.

German authorities are treating the case as a murder inquiry and say they have concrete evidence the missing youngster is dead.

The abandoned wells are a 15-minute drive from Brueckner’s rented cottage on the outskirts of Praia de Luz, on a narrow road leading down to a beach where the paedophile used to park his VW camper van.

Brueckner is also being probed in Germany over a 2004 Algarve rape and a sex attack on a beach near Praia da Luz a month before Madeleine vanished.

In Portugal prosecutors have reopened their investigation into a sex crime in a playground he was arrested over in 2017.

He was held on suspicion of exposing himself to young children at a playground in Sao Bartolomeu de Messines a 40-minute drive from Praia de Luz.

Police discovered after his detention he was wanted by Germany on an international arrest warrant for child sex abuse and possession of child sex abuse imagery.

He was extradited to his homeland and was never prosecuted in Portugal following his Algarve arrest.

The criminal probe was mothballed despite protests from the youngsters’ angry parents but reopened last month.

Brueckner's lawyer Friedrich Fulscher has insisted his client, currently serving a 21-month drug sentence in prison in the German city of Kiel, has nothing to do with Madeleine’s disappearance.

Last month the German drifter, convicted last year in his homeland of raping an American OAP in 2005 in Praia da Luz, was told he would remain in jail after losing a legal challenge against an earlier extradition from Italy to Germany.

He had insisted the “flawed” extradition should lead to him being freed early.

The ruling means he will now stay in jail until 2024 at least.

There has not yet been any official comment from police to the Correio da Manha reports about the recent Lisbon meeting between officials from the three countries involved in the Madeleine McCann probe.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told Mirror Online: "We do not provide a running commentary on this investigation, which remains a missing person enquiry."

Update re: Madeleine McCann Buried in Forest-Hidden Cellar Found

Madeleine McCann Killed in Portugal and Not Moved to Germany by Suspect Police Say

EXCLUSIVE: German police had previously feared their suspect Christian Brueckner had taken the girl, who would now be 18, from Praia da Luz to his native home

Daily Mirror UK. 16 MAY 2021.

German police say they are now convinced Madeleine McCann was killed in Portugal.

Cops reportedly feared suspect Christian Brueckner had moved Maddie to his native Germany from Praia da Luz, where she vanished 14 years ago.

But now prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters says officers believe Maddie, who would now be 18, died in Portugal.

The remarks come days after her parents Kate, 53, and Gerry, 52, said they would never give up hope of finding her.

It was on May 3, 2007 that Madeleine, from Rothley, Leics, vanished – days before her fourth birthday.

Mr Wolters has said “concrete evidence” will prove Brueckner murdered Madeleine, but has always refused to give any details.

When asked where he believed she was killed, Wolters claimed: “In Portugal. I am optimistic we will solve this case.”

Drifter Brueckner, 44, is serving seven years for the rape of a 72-year-old American woman in the Algarve in 2005.

Last July German police dug up an allotment in Hanover where Brueckner, also referred to as Christian B, used to stay.

It is thought they were looking for any material, including computer drives, which could link him to the case.

Mr Wolters added: “Since Christian B did not have the allotment at the time of Maddie’s disappearance, he could not have buried a body there.”

Convicted child sex offender Brueckner, 44, was identified by German authorities last June as prime suspect over Maddie.

They hope to charge him this year.

Brueckner’s lawyer Friedrich Fulscher insists the German has nothing to do with Madeleine.

And British police still treat her disappearance as a missing persons case.

The McCanns, meanwhile, paid a tribute to their girl last week, writing: “Happy 18th birthday Madeleine. We love you and we’re waiting for you and we’re never going to give up.”

Madeleine McCann Buried in Forest Just Six Miles From Where She Vanished

Hidden Cellar Found in German Probe into Madeleine McCann Disappearance

Clairvoyant Michael Schneider has given police the exact co-ordinates of the spot where he believes they will find her body after the girl vanished from Praia da Luz on May 3 in 2007

Daily Mirror UK. 6 JUN 2021

Michael Schneider has helped solve other missing person cases (Image: Michael Schneider)

Police are set to investigate a clairvoyant’s claim that Madeleine McCann’s body is buried in a forest six miles from the Portuguese holiday resort where she went missing.

Michael Schneider, who has successfully located the remains of several missing people, has told officers that Madeleine “is unfortunately dead and buried in Portugal north-east of Lagos”.

He has given cops the exact co-ordinates of the spot where he believes they will find her body.

Tonight senior German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters confirmed to the Sunday People his officers have previously used clairvoyants and in some cases received specific information.

But Schneider’s claim will come as a fresh blow to Madeleine’s parents Kate, 52, and doctor Gerry, 53, of Rothley, Leics, who believe she is still alive.

Madeleine vanished from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on May 3 in 2007, days before her fourth birthday.

Schneider, 50, a former TV reporter, said: “I do not give out such information lightly and without constantly questioning myself because I am very well aware of the responsibility of what I do.”

Last month he helped solve the case of a woman who went missing in Germany. She was found hanging from a tree 36 hours after Schneider gave police the correct location.

He also successfully pinpointed the bodies of *murdered couple Peter Neumair, 63, and Laura Perselli, 68, who went missing from their home in Bolzano in Italy in January.

Peter’s sister Michaela said: “In the case of Maddie, in my view it is worth a try – the police should take a look at the coordinates Michael has given.”

Schneider contacted the BKA – Germany’s equivalent of the FBI – three weeks ago with his claim.

They emailed back saying: “Your *information will be appropriately incorporated into our work.”

Schneider said: “I am happy that the BKA seem to be taking me seriously.

“Often you have a reputation as a freak or someone just trying to squeeze money out of someone, and this is quite hurtful. I never take money.”

Explaining his psychic technique, Schneider said: “I look at a photo of the missing person and ask myself upwards towards God whether this living being is alive or dead.

“After that I take an atlas or a road map and look at large areas superficially. Afterwards at Google Maps and Earth.

“Then I let my fingers and my eyes circle over these maps until they stop on a spot and mark it.”

German prosecutors have named paedophile Christian Brueckner, 44, who is currently serving a seven-year sentence for rape, as the prime suspect.

Mr Wolters refused to comment on Schneider but said: “Several psychics have responded to our call for help in the past year and offered assistance.

“In some cases, we also received *concrete tips. We do not ignore them, but we are cautious.”

The Sunday People asked the McCanns’ Portuguese legal team to comment.

Update Re: Madeleine McCann Suspect TALKS-Life, Sex Abuse & Torture

Madeleine McCann Suspects' Playboy Life' Hid Wave of Burglaries, Drug Deals and Sex Abuse...
He Enjoyed Torturing' Elderly Rape Victim

Christian Brueckner, who has broken his silence to TELL POLICE TO GIVE UP & slam the 'scandalous' probe against him, lived a nomadic lifestyle across Europe flirting with tourists

Police in Germany have been investigating prime suspect for four years

Daily Mirror UK, 22 JUN 2021

Christian Brueckner is the chief suspect in the long-running Madeleine McCann case

Dressed in a pinstripe blazer and cruising around in a vintage Jaguar, Christian Brueckner cultivated his image as a romantic playboy.

But behind the glamorous visage was a warped predator who dealt drugs, burgled homes and hid a sickening history of child sex abuse.

This week, the German paedophile suspected of abducting and murdering Madeleine McCann spoke out for the first time since being identified in the police investigation.

The 44-year-old, who is currently serving seven years for the rape of an elderly woman in the Algarve, called the probe a "scandal" in a scathing letter and called for the resignation of investigators for "persecuting an innocent person".

First convicted of abusing children at the age of 17 in 1994, the pervert moved to Portugal the following year - spending more than a decade in Praia da Luz, the resort town where Kate and Gerry McCann took their three children on holiday.

Over his decades-long spree, the career criminal is believed to have notched up as many as 17 separate convictions, while enjoying a nomadic life across Europe.

'He was charming and very smooth'

Growing up in Wuerzburg, Bavaria, Brueckner committed his first burglary when he was just 15.

He fled to Portugal after serving a two-year juvenile term for abusing a six-year-old girl in a playground and exposing himself to a nine-year-old girl when he was 17.

The German newspaper Bild quotes him as saying: "We didn't know anything about Portugal. We went to Lagos because we liked the name so much. We had a tent with us and camped in the wild."

Renting a farmhouse in Monte Judeu, near Praia da Luz, Brueckner was seen speeding around country roads in his 1993 Jaguar XJR6 and would flirt with tourists who flocked to the picturesque holiday hotspot.

Speaking to the Mirror, his English ex-girlfriend said: "Chris could be very, very charming, very funny and very smooth in the way he talked.

“He always dressed nicely, held the door open, that kind of thing. He drove the nice car – the black Jaguar – was very gentlemanly and spoke properly."

Secretly, however, he was embarking on a crime spree that involved dealing cannabis, drug-trafficking and allegedly stealing laptops and passports from rooms at the nearby resort.

'Enjoyed torturing' elderly rape victim

During one sickening burglary, Brueckner blindfolded and raped a 72-year-old American woman at her Algarve apartment, beating her with a metal pole.

The 2005 attack was videotaped and the footage was discovered by friends, who had broken into his house to retrieve the camera, according to MailOnline.

However, one of the witnesses said they destroyed the film in disgust and did not report the contents to police until more than a decade later.

According to evidence heard at Brueckner's eventual trial over the rape, the witness recognised the beast in the film after he took his mask off.

He said: "Then the man sat on the bed and pulled the mask off his face. I thought: That can't be!"

The witness told the court he had also seen a second film that showed a younger woman tied naked to a wooden beam and claiming she had been raped, while Brueckner sat on a sofa.

The elderly woman told investigators of the terrifying 15-minute ordeal: "I felt that he enjoyed torturing me."

Investigated days after Madeleine's disappearance

In April 2007, Brueckner moved out of his home and into a VW Westfalia campervan.

A month later, Madeleine went missing from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, just days before her fourth birthday.

Her parents, Kate and Gerry, had put her and her siblings to bed in the flat before joining friends for dinner at a tapas restaurant nearby.

Police had Breuckner in their sights within five days and staff at the resort were shown his picture and name to see if they recognised him.

Goncalo Amaral, who led the initial probe, confirmed in an interview that a German paedophile had been identified in 2007 as a potential suspect.

Making the comments in 2019, he did not name him but said the man was serving a prison term in Germany – just like Brueckner.

However, Amaral said his detectives found nothing to suggest the German was involved in Madeleine’s abduction.

String of sick convictions

Brueckner moved back to Germany the month after Madeleine went missing, travelling between Portugal and Italy over the next decade.

During this time, he faced further convictions for drug offences, including a 19-month sentence over a crime that involved "narcotics in large quantities".

In 2016 he was jailed for 15 months for "sexually abusing a child in the act of procuring himself and possessing child pornography".

The following year, he was once again sentenced to 15 months in prison for the sexual abuse of a child.

After his release, he became homeless and attempted to flee to Milan.

However, he was extradited to Germany from Italy under a 2018 arrest warrant that cited a drugs conviction and sent to prison in Kiel in Schleswig-Holstein, where he is currently being detained.

A year earlier, the witness who saw footage of his 2005 rape attack had gone to police, who found enough evidence to build a case against him.

Brueckner was sentenced to seven years in jail over the attack in 2019 and lost an appeal against the ruling last August.

It was not until last year that he was identified as the chief suspect in the Madeleine McCann case.

Police said that significant information had emerged after investigators made an appeal in May 2017, the 10th anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance.

Central to the new investigation is the discovery of a 30-minute phone call that places Breuckner in Praia da Luz just hour before the three-year-old is feared to have been snatched.

Cops have seized his campervan, which was sold in 2015, to examine it for clues.

Rant over 'unbelievable scandal'

German tabloid Bild reported on Monday that it had obtained a letter penned by Brueckner.

Writing from prison, he said: "Charging an accused is one thing. Something "Both are proving worldwide through my arbitrary condemnation in the past and through their scandalous pre-denial campaign in the present against me as an innocent person that they are not suitable for an office as a lawyer for the honest and trusting German people and you bring shame onto the judiciary."

Earlier this month, prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters told the Mirror he was "pleased" with how the case has progressed and suggested it could be solved in months.

Wolters said prosecutors still had unanswered questions, however.completely different - namely, it is an unbelievable scandal - when a public prosecutor starts a public campaign for prejudice before a court case is opened.

"Freedom of expression is not a basic right so that everyone can say and write what they want. Freedom of expression does not protect the majority.

"It protects the minority. It does not protect the most logical, most convincing or most popular views, but rather the outsider position.

"I call on the Brunswick public prosecutors (Hans Christian) Wolters and (Ute) Lindemann to resign from their offices.

Update Re: Madeleine McCann Suspect Had Secret Compound Guarded by Fierce Dogs

Madeleine McCann Suspect and ex Had Secret Portugal Compound Guarded by Fierce Dogs

EXCLUSIVE: Nicole Fehlinger’s father Dieter has spoken to the German equivalent of the FBI about his daughter and Christian Brueckner's secret compound in Portugal guarded by four fierce Kangal dogs

Daily Mirror UK, 26 JUN 2021

Madeleine MCann investigators have been told of a secret compound on the Algarve owned by Christian Brueckner’s ex-girlfriend.

Nicole Fehlinger’s father Dieter went back to speak to the German equivalent of the FBI for a second time.

Prosecutors have confirmed he gave a lengthy interview and that they are seriously examining this new lead.

Madeleine disappeared from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007 just a few days before her fourth birthday.

Nicole lived in Portugal at the time with Brueckner, who has been identified as the chief suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance.

Mr Fehlinger has told investigators that Nicole and Brueckner had a secret compound on the Algarve which no-one else had been aware of.

He said it was guarded by four fierce Kangal dogs, which have the strongest bite of any in the world.

Mr Fehlinger said: “No one knows that my daughter not only had the private residence in Portugal at her disposal, but also a separate compound.

“No-one has ever searched there or the property has never turned up in connection with Maddie, Brueckner or Nicole.

"It’s an overgrown property of over 5,000 square metres. It was a secure area, enclosed with fencing and four aggressive Kangal dogs were there day and night.

“The area is completely overgrown, not visible. No one could get in or out, only my daughter and perhaps Brueckner with her.”

The secret compound is on land very close to the house where Nicole lived on the Algarve, 38 miles from Praia da Luz.

The mother of three was part of a fostering programme in Portugal for troubled German youngsters. There is no suggestion she had anything to do with the disappearance of Madeleine, from Rothley, Leics.

German Police are only investigating Brueckner over the case. He is currently in jail after being convicted of other offences including rape.

Last year they named Brueckner, 44, as the prime suspect in Madeleine going missing after phone records placed him in the resort on the night she vanished.

The paedophile has accused prosecutors of bringing “shame” to the German legal system by making “scandalous” statements against him.

Nicole, also 44, was in a relationship with him for a couple of years after they met in a bar.

Court documents in Portugal revealed they had regular phone conversations and enjoyed a weekend break in Lisbon together just months after Madeleine disappeared.

Nicole worked as a hotel receptionist before returning to Wurzburg, Germany, around 10 years ago.

It remains unclear if they continued their relationship when Brueckner returned to Braunschweig to open a bar in 2012.

Update re: inside Madeleine McCann Suspects' Sinister Cellar Dungeon

Madeleine McCann Suspect Moved to High-Security 'German Alcatraz' Prison to be Watched 24/7

Christian Brueckners' lawyer did not comment on why he has been moved to a super-max German prison dubbed the Alcatraz of The North where he can be watched 24/7 - but it is belived it comes after a scuffle with guards

Daily Mirror, 18 AUG 2021.

The prime suspect in the Madeleine McCann case has been moved to a new high-security prison dubbed the Alcatraz of The North.

Christian Brueckner, who German investigators believe murdered Madeleine in 2007, is now in solitary confinement at Oldenburg prison near Bremen, north west Germany.

Although the modern prison is a step up in comfort from his previous jails it is covered with CCTV cameras.

All the doors and windows within the walls are made from special reinforced safety glass so guards can keep an eye on prisoners at all times.

Escape is thought to be almost impossible at the high-tech facility which is surrounded by a 22ft wall - although one prisoner managed to flee after befriending a guard.

When contacted by The Mirror, Brueckner’s lawyer, Friedrich Fuelscher, declined to comment on why Brueckner had been transferred.

But it is believed it was in his best interests after he fell and broke his ribs in a scuffle with guards at a jail near Braunschweig.

There he had been housed at the grim Wolfenbüttel prison which is where the Nazis executed several hundred Second World War inmates by stringing them up or decapitating them.

He had previously been held in Kiel but was unhappy there because he was being bullied by other inmates for his link to the McCann case.

Madeleine was snatched from her bed at the holiday resort of Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007 when she was three.

Convicted paedophile Brueckner, 44, fled to Portugal in 1995 after completing a two-year sentence for abusing a child.

He is now serving a seven-year jail term for raping a 72-year-old American woman in the Algarve in 2005.

German prosecutors are currently compiling evidence against Brueckner who last year became the prime suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance - and believe she has been murdered.

In May the drifter made his first ever comment on the case, branding the investigation against him “scandalous” in a letter penned from his cell.

Brueckner said the public prosecutor had “brought shame to the legal system”.

He refuses to speak to police or investigators about the case.

First Look inside Madeleine McCann Suspects' Sinister Cellar Dungeon Dug Under Home

The Mirror is the first newspaper to gain access to the creepy site and inspect the grim, dank cellar in convicted paedophile Christian Bruckner's former home in Germany

Daily Mirror, 20 AUG 2021

Police searched a sinister cellar dug under a ramshackle house by Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner, The Mirror can reveal.

Officers swooped on the convicted paedophile’s former home in Central Germany after the current tenant raised the alarm.

Brueckner had lived in the allotment property, on the outskirts of Braunschweig, while he ran a kiosk in the city from 2013 to 2016.

While there he illegally dug the 10ft deep pit.

Last year it was reported a friend claimed Brueckner had said he wanted to create a dungeon – with soundproof walls – “like the guy in Austria” – a chilling reference to monster Josef Fritzl.

There is no evidence he ever followed through with that idea.

Brueckner left the home and went on the run when he suspected German detectives were closing in on him for a number of offences – including a rape – in Portugal.

The Mirror is the first newspaper to gain access to the creepy site and inspect the dank cellar.

The current occupier of the house, Sabine Selig, 36, said she had called the police the moment she heard about Brueckner’s link to the Maddie investigation and they had since scoured the basement.

Sabine revealed Brueckner, who she described as “grubby”, was desperate to get rid of the place when she took it off him in 2016.

Now the artist says she realises he was itching to go on the run after being convicted of sexually abusing a little girl in Germany.
He even joked about heading to to Italy where he was eventually captured, living on the streets of Milan, in 2018.

Sabine told The Mirror: “If I had known what kind of guy he was, I never would have moved in here.

“He wanted to give up his little house, his allotment quickly – as quickly as possible. He wanted to run away to Italy. I had to pay him 800 euros to take over the garden.

“It all looked like a rubbish dump, not like a flat. I didn’t care, the garden was big, you could make something out of the hut.

“And I needed the space and Brueckner was under stress.”

After moving in, Sabine says, she noticed Brueckner had dug the cellar but gave it little thought.

Then when she found out he was the prime suspect in the Maddie case, she contacted police immediately who descended on her place and began digging it up in a frantic search for evidence.

Sabine said: “I went straight to the police, because I remembered the half-closed cellar and I don’t know what’s still down there.

“It’s a strange feeling, a hole under your feet and no one knows what’s ‘buried’ there.”

The quaint wooden structure where she lives which is like something from a Grimm fairytale, is secluded but easily identifiable thanks to its distinctive blue roof.

It sits in a large garden and fruit trees abound. But inside the house itself it is damp and neglected.

Brueckner, a skilled tradesman, did fit it with a kitchen and wood-fueled stove in an attempt to make it more homely.

He also decorated it in what Sabine called a “creepy” fashion.

Sabine said it was more like a child’s fairytale version of a house than a single man’s dwelling, with a collection of hand-carved wooden dolls and fairy-lights.

She said: “He showed me his handicrafts in and around the house.

“Like a child’s world, a fairytale house that can always light up.

“It was fun and spooky at the same time. A guy who is playful like a child, I still thought.”

Describing Brueckner she said: “He made a nervous, unsorted impression. He always had a beer in his hand, as far as I can remember.

“He was always very short-tempered, full of tension due to his personal circumstances, one clearly on the run – but from what, I don’t know. There were also friends of his in the allotment garden, but fortunately I haven’t seen them again so far. Strange characters.

“He was always in a jacket, according to my memory was always a bit dirty and he was totally under pressure and had to get away quickly.

“He had a fixed gaze, he stared at you almost motionless. There was something unpleasant and opaque about him. Today I can explain it, it seems to be the Maddie McCann case.”

Madeleine was snatched from her bed in the resort of Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007 when she was three.

Brueckner had fled to Portugal in 1995 after completing a two-year sentence for abusing a child. He is now serving a seven years in Germany for raping a 72-year-old American woman in the Algarve in 2005.

German prosecutors are currently compiling evidence against Brueckner, who became the prime suspect in her disappearance in June, 2020. They believe Maddie has been murdered.

In May, Brueckner made his first comment on the case, branding the investigation against him “scandalous” in a letter penned from his cell.

He said the public prosecutor had “brought shame to the legal system”.

He refuses to speak to police or investigators about the case.

Last year German police intensively searched another allotment linked to him in Hanover, around an hour away from Braunschweig.

It was a short drive away from a flat where he once lived, and the ‘Havana Club’ bar which he often frequented.

But the large scale, two-day operation involving diggers and sniffer dogs, came up with nothing.

Update re: Madeleine McCann Investigators Discover Shocking Clues That Incriminate Suspect

Madeleine McCann Prosecutor 100% Convinced Christian B Abducted and Murdered Her

Madeleine McCann prosecutors say they have no body and no DNA but other evidence leads to only one conclusion - jailed rapist Christian Brueckner is guilty and could be charged next year

Daily Mirror 10 OCT 2021. Germany

Madeleine went missing aged 3

German prosecutor Mr Wolters ( Image:Phil Harris)

Convicted paedophile Brueckner

Investigators are “100% sure” sex offender Christian Brueckner murdered Madeleine McCann.

They have the evidence to charge him and hope the probe will conclude next year.

German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said: “We’re confident we have the man who took and killed her.”

Prosecutors investigating paedophile Christian Brueckner on suspicion of murdering Madeleine McCann are certain of his guilt and determined to build the strongest possible case against him.

They believe they have the evidence to charge the 44-year-old and it has “100% convinced” them that he killed her.

And they hope to be able to bring charges next year.

But as Brueckner is already in jail for separate offences the team are taking time to gather as much evidence as possible before bringing it to court.

Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, German prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said: “It is now possible that we could charge. We have that evidence now.

“But it’s not just about charging him – we want to charge him with the best body of evidence possible.

“When we still have questions, it would be nonsense to charge rather than wait for the answers that could strengthen our position.

“That’s why we said we’ll investigate as long as there are leads or information for us to pursue. I’m not saying that what we have is insufficient now. But he’s in prison, so we don’t have this pressure on us. We have time on our hands.”

However, the prosecutors now admit they have no proof Madeleine is dead – despite authorities in Braunschweig telling the McCanns last year that they had “evidence” she is no longer alive.

Mr Wolters said they have no idea how she died and no DNA or photo evidence linking the German sex offender to the alleged murder. Addressing Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann, he said: “We are confident we have the man who took and killed your daughter.”

“All I can do is ask for your patience. I personally think a conclusion will be reached next year. We have no body and no DNA but we have other evidence. Based on the evidence we have, it leads to no other conclusion.

“I can’t tell you on which basis we assume she is dead. But for us, there’s no other possibility. There is no hope she is alive.”

Madeleine vanished from her family’s holiday flat at the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007, days before her fourth birthday. Kate and Gerry of Rothley, Leics, have said they “hang on to the hope, however small, that we will see Madeleine again”.

Undated handout photo issued by Metropolitan Police of a VW T3 Westfalia campervan that has been linked to the suspect

Evidence being investigated includes a “confession” Brueckner made to a pal and phone analysis showing he was at the Ocean Club when the toddler vanished. Mr Wolters said: “It is circumstantial evidence – we have no scientific evidence. If we had a video of the act or a picture of Madeleine dead with Brueckner on camera, we wouldn’t have had to make a public appeal. But we only have circumstantial evidence.”

Brueckner was living in a camper van close to Praia da Luz when Madeleine disappeared. UK and German police first became aware of him as a suspect in 2017 but only went public with it last June. Senior investigators have spoken to potential key witnesses in Germany and Portugal.

Mr Wolters dismissed as “rubbish” a recent report that the probe will end by Christmas, but said it is likely Brueckner will be charged early next year with other alleged offences in Portugal.

They include the rape of an Irish woman in the Algarve in 2004 and two incidents where he allegedly flashed at youngsters.

Asked if he was happy with the pace of the Madeleine probe, Mr Wolters said: “It could have gone better. Of course we hoped we’d get such good tip-offs that the investigation might have already ended. But the case is progressing.”

He said a “very big number” have been interviewed but the team has yet to find the person Brueckner spoke to on the phone around the time Madeleine went missing. He added: “We’ve found no evidence to clear Mr Brueckner of suspicion. Everything we’ve found fits in the picture. We’re perhaps halfway through.”

Defending the decision not to show the McCanns the evidence that leads prosecutors to believe Madeleine is dead, he said: “If I did ...is very possible that they would then no longer have any hope.”

When Madeleine went missing, Brueckner was just out of jail for petrol theft. He is serving seven years in a German jail for raping a pensioner in Praia da Luz. Mr Wolters criticised the slow approach of Portuguese authorities in the investigation, accusing them of lacking interest in the case because the victim and prime suspect are both foreigners.

He said: “What takes one week in Germany can take six months in Portugal. I think the interest in the case in Portugal is just not that big, because no Portuguese person is involved. Also it does not shine a particularly good light on the Portuguese police, as they had totally different suspects.

“I think they would prefer to be left in peace.

“The co-operation with Britain is certainly notably better.”

Brueckner denies being involved in Madeleine’s disappearance and has refused to speak to police or prosecutors.

Update Re: Madeleine McCann Investigators Discover Shocking Clues That Incriminate Suspect

Madeleine McCann Investigators Discover Shocking Clues That Incriminate Suspect

Madeleine McCann investigators working for TV channel Sat.1 have handed "shocking" evidence to detectives probing Christian Brueckner over the infamous case

Daily Mirror 18 JAN 2022

Madeleine McCann was just three when she disappeared in 2007

German investigators say they have uncovered “shocking” evidence which “heavily incriminates” Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner.

A team working for TV channel Sat.1 have handed the evidence to detectives probing Brueckner over the infamous case.

British youngster Madeleine was just three-years-old when she vanished from her parents’ holiday apartment in Portugal in 2007.

German prosecutors claim to have evidence she is dead and named convicted paedophile Brueckner as their only suspect.

Despite going public with the information in June 2020, they have still not charged him with any offence.

But now Sat.1 investigators claim to have found fresh evidence linking Brueckner, who denies any involvement, to the crime.

They will reveal more information about their investigation in a prime-time documentary, which is yet to have an air date.

Announcing the show, Sat.1 said journalist Jutta Rabe and a team of reporters gathered new information about Brueckner.

They claim it includes proof he was near Praia da Luz when Madeleine vanished while her parents dined in a tapas restaurant.

The channel said they collected “many new clues and indications” that corroborate the suspicions of German prosecutors.

Editor-in-chief Juliane Ebling said: “The sad story of Madeleine McCann is a story that has many German facets.

“The case is being tried at the Regional Court of Braunschweig, as the German Christian B. is the main suspect.

Police searching an allotment close to Brueckner's former home in 2020

“In his environment there are many German women and men who can describe individual details surrounding the crime.

“Jutta Rabe has researched shocking material in Germany, Portugal and England over the past months, which heavily incriminates Christian B.”

Sat.1 confirmed the show will be airing on German TV but said “no exact broadcast date has been set”.

When contacted by the Mirror, chief public prosecutor Hans-Christian Wolters was unavailable for comment.

His office confirmed in December that they soon hope to charge Brueckner with raping a woman in Portugal.

He is suspected of attacking Irish waitress Hazel Behan in the Algarve three years before Madeleine vanished.

She waived her right to anonymity two years ago to come forward and accuse Brueckner of attacking her in 2004.

The German, 45, is already serving a jail term for raping a pensioner in Praia da Luz in 2005.

Mr Wolters said he is 100% convinced” Brueckner also killed Madeleine, who was just three when she vanished.

The German was living in a camper van close to Praia da Luz when Madeleine disappeared.

Police first became aware of him as a suspect in 2017 but only went public with the information in June 2020.

Since then senior investigators have interviewed a string of potential key witnesses in Germany and Portugal.

The German denies being involved in Madeleine’s disappearance and has refused to speak to investigators.

Movies Re: Suspects' Friend 100% Certain He Snatched Madeleine McCann

Friend 100% Certain Madeleine McCann Suspect Christian Brueckner Snatched Her

Christian Post, a former friend of the prime suspect in Madeleine McCann's disappearance, is convinced Christian Brueckner took the three-year-old British girl in May 2007 at Praia da Luz on the Algarve

BBC News 8 APR 2022.

Christian Post said he is certain Brueckner snatched Maddie McCann

Christian Brueckner is the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann

Brueckner is currently in a jail in Germany

Christian Post believes his former pal *Christian Brueckner came across Madeleine McCann by chance as she slept in her apartment before snatching her.

The 54-year-old is now convinced the German paedophile took the three-year-old British girl in May 2007 at Praia da Luz on the Algarve.

And Post claimed Brueckner boasted of burgling holiday flats during chilling “night-crawls” across the Portuguese resort.

He told how the chief suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance had up to 100 passports from *properties he raided. And he admitted he regrets not tipping off police about his crimes, but insisted he is willing to try to help bring him to justice over the missing toddler.

Madeleine McCann went missing in 2007

The three-year-old girl vanished from her family's apartment in the Algarve holiday resort of Praia da Luz

German Post, a talented musician and IT expert, became friends with Brueckner, 45, after the pair met in an Algarve bar in the early-2000s.

He initially believed his fellow *countryman could not have been behind Madeleine’s kidnap and thought his criminality was limited to burglary.

But since discovering Brueckner had been convicted of child sex offences in his teens, Post said it was now “so obvious” he snatched her.

He added: “Now I know about his paedophile past, his rapist past. I’m 100% certain it was him.

“I think he found her by chance and just took her on the spur of the moment.

“I think once you are a paedophile, there is a switch in your brain that cannot be turned off. If he saw a little girl asleep, alone in her apartment, he would definitely have taken her.

“Thinking about what he has done in the past makes me sick, it makes me want to vomit knowing I was hanging with him. If he is convicted of taking Madeleine I hope they lock him up and take away the key.

Post was tracked down by the Mirror to a small town in southern Cambodia where he lives under an assumed name.

In his first ever interview he told how he and Brueckner would go to each other’s flats after they became friends.

Post said he knew his new pal was on the “fringes” of crime but had no idea of the true scale until a later visit to his ramshackle farmhouse.

He said: “I was sat in the living room and noticed piles of passports on the fireplace. There honestly must have been between 60 and 100 of them, neatly stacked up in three piles.

“He told me he got them on his ‘*night-crawls’ in Praia da Luz, climbing onto balconies and through windows. It shows how many burglaries he must have done.

“He said he would go into rooms and take what he wanted. At the time I guessed he was talking about cash, jewellery, *passports… but now who knows?

“He would only do it at night, it was too risky being seen in the daylight.

“He also said he was trafficking a bit of weed to make cash. But there was absolutely no sign he was into children or anything like sexual crimes.

“Do I have regrets not telling the police about the passports at the time? I guess I do.

“But now I’m willing to go back to court, to face him again, and help convict him if they want me to.”

Post only discovered Brueckner had been convicted of child sex offences after reading about them in the press.

And we can reveal he has twice been interviewed by detectives investigating the suspect and Madeleine’s case.

Post also gave evidence against him at his 2019 trial for raping a pensioner in Praia da Luz in 2005, for which he is serving seven years in Germany.

He fell out with Brueckner in 2006 after the crook asked him to go to his house and clear out anything *incriminating while he was in a Portimao prison for stealing petrol.

Post found some porn films and binned them rather than take them to a friend’s house who had children. He said: “He thought I was stealing from him or something.”

The pair met briefly again in 2012 after Post had returned to Germany to work on a Christmas market in Solingen near Dusseldorf.

But after moving to Cambodia in 2015, he was stunned when his brother rang three years later to say German detectives wanted to speak to him.

Post added: “They said he was a suspect in the Madeleine case. I was absolutely shocked.”

He said he had never spoken about Brueckner publicly before over fears he would be linked to the Madeleine case. And he insisted he had nothing to do with any of the suspect’s crimes

German prosecutors named Brueckner as a suspect in June 2020 and claim to have evidence he abducted and killed her. He denies any involvement in the case.

Madeleine’s parents Kate, 54, and Gerry, 53, from Rothley, Leics, continue to believe she is alive somewhere.

Last week it was reported Home Office funding for Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange investigation into the disappearance will end this year.

The probe, opened in 2011, has so far cost more than £13million.

Update re: Madeleine McCanns' Parents LOSE Legal Battle Over Portuguese Detectives' Allegations

Madeleine McCann-DNA Hope -Unnamed Suspect Passed by Portugal to UK Police

Madeleine McCann prime suspect reveals his 'alibi' during explosive TV interview

Madeleine McCann prime suspect Christian Brueckner has given British former detective Mark Williams-Thomas an 'alibi' for the night the toddler disappeared as part of a new documentary

The new documentary, Madeleine McCann: Prime Suspect, by US network AMC Crime, will air on 3 May.

Daily Mirror 25 APR 2022

The prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has allegedly given an alibi as part of a new documentary.

Christian Brueckner is said to have told British investigator Mark Williams-Thomas that he can prove he was elsewhere on the night the toddler was snatched in 2007.

It comes after the 44-year-old German paedophile was officially named as a suspect in Portugal for the very first time, his lawyers confirmed on Thursday.

Brueckner being named as a suspect is linked to the upcoming 15th anniversary of the abduction.

In Portugal there is a strict 15-year limit for bringing a murder charge.

The move allows the current investigation to continue further

He is currently serving time in a German prison

For nearly two years Brueckner has maintained a stony silence with police.

But instead, has chosen to speak to Mr Williams-Thomas from his cell at a high security prison in Oldenburg, northwest Germany, where he is serving out a rape sentence.

The former detective said the prisoner agreed to talk to him in person before the prison authorities blocked them from meeting.

He told The Sun : "We have since been in contact at length in *writing and he has explained his position to me in detail.

"He has told me exactly where he was on the night Madeleine disappeared — and that he was not where the police say he was. He also insists that he is entirely innocent.

Police forces searching an allotment garden that belonged to Brueckner

"My inquiries have unearthed evidence which is pretty explosive, but I’m not saying whether I believe what he told me. That’s for viewers to judge."

Police traced a mobile phone Brueckner had been using to a mast 200 yards from the McCann's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.

However, Mr Williams-Thomas claims in the documentary the phone could have been up to 22 miles away when it received a half-hour call as the mast covered a large signal cell.

On Friday, Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry McCann said they still hold out hope their daughter - just three when she vanished - is still alive.

In a statement they said: “We welcome the news that the Portuguese authorities have declared a German man an arguido.

“This reflects progress in the investigation. Even though the possibility may be slim, we have not given up hope that Madeleine is still alive and we will be reunited with her.”

The family had been holidaying at the Ocean Club resort when Madeleine disappeared from her room on May 3, 2007.

She was asleep next to younger twin siblings Sean and Amelie.

Brueckner was told about his new status in his cell.

He also still faces charges for the rape of Irish national Hazel Behan in Portugal in 2004.

Update re: Madeleine McCanns' Parents LOSE Legal Battle Over Portuguese Detectives' Allegations

Madeleine McCann Buried 13 Miles From Where She Disappeared, Psychic Claims

Michael Schneider, a psychic, has claimed Madeleine McCann is buried only 13 miles from where she first vanished whilst on holiday in 2007, after having previously guessed another spot where she could be found

Daily Mirror 1 MAY 2022

A psychic has claimed that Madeleine McCann is buried only 13 miles from where she vanished in 2007.

Michael Schneider has boldly alleged that new coordinates he has released reveal the remains of the missing youngster.

The self-professed psychic has said she is buried in a scrubland area, a 20 minute drive from the resort where she was last seen in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

This comes after he previously guessed she was six miles away from where she vanished, but said he had made a "mistake".

Eerie aerial photos of the location show a rural, forested area surrounded by farmland, with hardly any houses close by.

The German seer claims he has helped locate the remains of several missing people.

The route from where Madeleine McCann vanished and where the psychic claims she is buried

Michael said: "I think and have had the clear intuition that Maddie is dead and that she was killed by a pedo-criminal person

"I 'see' Maddie buried and I can always give metre-precise coordinates, but thank God I don't get any pictures, only if someone is buried or in the water, in a basement, in a cave or lying free."

Last summer, the clairvoyant also declared that he knew where Madeleine could be found and pointed to an entirely different spot to the one he has most recently said.

Then, he claimed Maddie could be found about six miles from her last known location, he said: "unfortunately dead and buried in Portugal north-east of Lagos".

Where Michael Schneider alledges Maddie is buried

He passed these onto investigating officers who reportedly dismissed his wild claims and a source close to the investigation said the area had already been searched.

However, he now claims his mystical abilities were slightly off, and has now produced a new location.

He said: "I've solved four missing person cases this year alone and found one missing dog alive.

"I asked myself again about the Maddie case with a time interval and I remain firmly on Ort Odi xere, only with the very exact coordinates I would like to please be allowed to correct myself one last time to the metre, seers are only human and people make mistakes."

In July 2007, it was reported Portuguese police were probing an anonymous letter published in a Dutch newspaper which claimed Madeleine was buried under rocks in Odi xere.

Madeleine vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal on May 3 in 2007.

Mr Schenider said he finds missing people by looking at a photo of them and asking God if they are living or dead.

He then looks at an atlas, road map and or Google Maps and runs his fingers over them until he stops at the spot where the missing person can allegedly be found.

It comes as Portuguese cops named German convict Christian Brueckner as a formal suspect in Madeleine's disappearance last week.

They said a German man has been declared an "arguido" - a formal suspect.

He has been identified as Brueckner, despite Portuguese police opting not to name him.

German police first announced they were investigating him in connection to the girl's disappearance in 2020, but he denies any involvement.

Portugal has a 15-year statute of limitations for crimes that could carry a maximum prison sentence of 10 years or more - a deadline of May 3 in Madeleine's case.

However, this statute of limitations has been avoided because they named an arguido, though police insist the decision was made for evidential reasons.

Brueckner is caged in Germany for drug offences and was also given a seven-year term for raping a 72-year-old woman in Portugal.

Default Re: Madeleine McCanns' Parents LOSE Legal Battle Over Portuguese Detectives' Allegati

Madeleine McCanns' Parents LOSE 13-Year Legal Battle Over Ex-Portuguese Detective's Allegations

Kate and Gerry McCann had taken legal action over former Portuguese detective inspector Goncalo Amaral over his false suggestion that they were involved in Madeleine's disappearance

BBC News 20 SEP 2022

A court has ruled against Madeleine McCann 's parents in the latest stage of their 13-year legal battle over allegations made by a former Portuguese detective inspector

Goncalo Amaral led the initial investigation into Madeleine McCann's disappearance

The European Court of Human Rights has today ruled that the Courts in Portugal did give the McCanns a fair hearing after they tried to claim damages against the retired officer who alleged they were involved in Maddie's disappearance.

Goncalo Amaral only led the initial investigation for a few months before being replaced, after the three-year-old disappeared on a family holiday in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve, on May 3, 2007.

No trace of the young girl has ever been found.

Lawyers for Kate and Gerry McCann argued that the Portuguese Courts had breached their right to respect for a private and family life in the way the courts there dealt with their libel claims against Amaral.

Kate and Gerry were questioned by police in September 2007, but later cleared of any wrongdoing.

In April this year paedophile Christian Brueckner was named as Portuguese police's prime suspect for the first time.

Madeleine McCann's parents break silence after losing 13-year legal battle with ex-cop

Former Policia Judiciaria officer Amaral made his allegations in 2009 memoir The Truth Of The Lie.

The allegations were dismissed by Portugal’s attorney general Jose Pinto Monteiro, and there is no suggestion the McCanns did any wrong-doing.

Madeleine's parents, from Rothley, Leicestershire, lost their civil reputation case before the Portuguese courts and appealed their claim to the ECHR claiming that the former inspector's statements damaged their reputation, their good name and their right to be presumed innocent.

They also complained that they were unable to obtain redress before the domestic civil courts of Portugal.

They argued that the reasoning in decisions issued by the Supreme Court of Portugal on January 31 and March 21, 2017, at the close of an action for damages brought by them, breached their right to be presumed innocent.

Madeleine McCann vanished on holiday in 2007 No trace has ever been found of the girl

In a judgment published on Tuesday (September 20) the ECHR found that the couple's reputation suffered by the fact they were made official suspects in the case for a short time.

And that that information was in the public domain, rather than Amaral's comments.

The ECHR said: "The Court considered that, even assuming that the applicants' reputation had been damaged, this was not on account of the argument put forward by the book's author but rather as a result of the suspicions expressed against them, which had led to their being placed under investigation in the course of the criminal investigation (the prosecutor's office decided to take no further action in July 2008) and had led to intense media attention and much controversy.

"The information had thus been brought to the public's attention in some detail even before the investigation file was made available to the media and the book in question was published.

"It followed that the national authorities had not failed in their positive obligation to protect the applicants' right to respect for their private life."

Thumbs Up Re: Madeleine McCann Prime Suspect Charged With MORE Sexual Offences

Prime Suspect in Disappearance of Madeleine McCann Charged With Several Sexual Offences....

PEDO Christian Brueckner is accused of committing several sexual offences in Portugal on victims aged from 10 to 80, according to German prosecutors

BBC News 12 Oct 2022

The prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007 has been charged in Germany with several sexual offences. Brueckner is serving seven years for rape

Christian Brueckner allegedly committed the offences in Portugal between 2000 and 2017, German prosecutors said.

None of the charges relate to the disappearance of the British toddler.

Among the charges brought against Brueckner is the rape of a woman in her 70 to 80s in a holiday apartment some time between December 2000 and April 2006, a statement revealed.

Brueckner reportedly filmed the attack with a camera he brought with him, prosecutors allege.

He is also accused of raping a 20-year-old Irish woman in Praia da Rocha after gaining access to her apartment via a balcony in June 2004.

The woman was sleeping when he threatened her with a knife and raped, before he tied her to a table and fled, prosecutors say.

Brueckner is also accused of forcing a 10-year-old German girl to perform a sex act on him on a beach in Portugal in 2007, before fleeing the scene.

A further alleged assault, relating to an 11-year-old Portuguese girl in a playground, was only stopped when she bravely ran back to her father for help.

"The accused is the same person against whom charges were brought in connection with the disappearance of the then 3-year-old British girl Madeleine Beth McCann," the Braunschweig prosecutor's office said in a statement.

"Specifically, the accused is charged with three offences of aggravated rape and two offences of sexual abuse of children," the prosecutor's office added.

Investigators believe the 45-year-old killed Madeleine, then three, after abducting her from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on May 3 2007.

Brueckner, who has reportedly denied any involvement in the case, was identified as a suspect in the McCann case by Portuguese officials in June 2020.

The suspect is currently serving a 7-year prison sentence for rape, which he also committed in Portugal in 2005.

He was convicted after DNA found on a hair in her bed was matched to him. He and his lawyer Friedrich Fulscher have denied his involvement and insisted he was convicted after a bungled investigation.

The investigation into Madeleine's disappearance is continuing irrespective of the charges brought, the prosecutor's office said.

Madeleine McCann was three when she disappeared

In September, Maddie's parents Kate and Gerry lost their 13-year legal battle over an ex-Portuguese detective's allegations.

Former Policia Judiciaria officer Amaral made his allegations in 2009 memoir The Truth Of The Lie.

Madeleine went missing from a resort in the village of Praia da Luz, Portugal, sparking a worldwide hunt for her whereabouts, but she has never been found.

Only three at the time of her mysterious disappearance in 2007, Madeleine would now be 19.

Brueckner has reportedly denied any involvement in the British toddler's disappearance since being identified as a suspect by Portuguese officials in June 2020.

Earlier this year documentary, Madeleine McCann: The Case Against Christian B, was aired as viewers saw expert investigator Mark Williams-Thomas look into the evidence against the German paedophile.

The Brit ex-cop, 52, Williams-Thomas stated in the filming that he does not believe Brueckner is responsible for the Maddie mystery after becoming the first reporter to speak to him following the allegations.

He said: "In Portugal after 15 years any serious crime including murder can't be prosecuted... Christian Brueckner was made an arguido to get around this. I believe he is innocent.

"Somebody's previous offending does not make them responsible. That is not how the criminal justice system should work."

Mr Williams-Thomas added: "I am no fan of Christian Brueckner. He has committed some horrific offences.

"But that doesn't make him the killer of Madeleine McCann unless there is the evidence to support that. And there isn't.

"They cannot place him outside Madeleine's apartment on the day of the disappearance and furthermore he has a credible alibi which places him away from there. And there is evidence of non-changing behaviour."

Movies re: Prosecutor: 'Investigation Into Madeleine McCann Suspect NOT Over'

Madeleine McCanns' Parents Avoid Christmas Message as Police Poised to Charge Suspect

Supporters of Kate and Gerry McCann have every Christmas looked forward to message of hope from the couple regarding missing Madeleine, but no message arrived this year

BBC News 1 JAN 2023

The parents of Madeleine McCann did not pen a Christmas message to their missing daughter this year for the first time since she disappeared.

Christian Brueckner is the prime suspect

Kate and Gerry McCann have since May 2007 spoken of their belief their daughter will be found every festive season in heartwarming messages on their Find Madeleine website.

However the last update was from September in a post regarding the European Court of Humans Rights.

In 2021 however they thanked their supporters who sent them Christmas cards and support, The Sun reported.

The message from a year ago read: “It feels a little bit like Groundhog day with Covid and its requirement for social distancing and face masks.

“It’s a little similar in some ways with the investigation to find Madeleine…work and progress continue but with no significant news to share at this stage.

“Despite this, we couldn’t let the opportunity pass to say a very big thank you once again to all our supporters.

“This is our fifteenth Christmas without Madeleine and yet we still receive so many kind words of encouragement and support, not to mention the Christmas cards.

“Amazing and humbling, thank you so much.”

Although there was not a festive message this year, the parents did mark the anniversary in May of the then three-year-old Maddie disappearance.

The parents marked the anniversary of their daughter's disappearance

They again thanked their supporters.

It comes amid reports suggesting German police could be about to charge a suspect over Maddie’s disappearance from Praia da Luz, southern Portugal.

Prime suspect Christian Brueckner, 45, could face charges at some time in the New Year and police are continuing enquiries.

Brueckner was identified as the primer suspect in 2020 when it was found the convicted paedophile was living in a campervan near the McCann family's holiday apartment.

In November Brueckner accused German prosecutors of plotting to frame him for a string of crimes.

The Madeleine McCann suspect was charged last month over accusations of rape and sexual assault in Portugal. But the 45-year-old insists he has done no wrong.

In a rambling prison letter he wrote: “There is no evidence at all that I committed any of these crimes. No DNA, nothing.

“The time that some of these crimes are supposed to have happened I was in prison. The prosecution are trying to trap me and hope that I will capitulate under the mental pressure.

"They hope that I will just say ‘yes’ to everything which will give me a chance to escape from this mental torture.

“Certainly there is no evidence at all. Of course not because I have not committed any of these crimes.”

Woman Claiming to be Madeleine McCann Reveals Two Pieces of Evidence Showing it's True

A German woman has created an Instagram account named @ZZZZZZZ, claiming to be missing British girl Madeleine McCann who vanished during a family holiday in Portugal in 2007

BBC 18 FEB 2023

A woman who claims on social media to be Madeleine McCann has shown two pieces of "evidence" that, according to her, prove she really is the missing girl.

Unsubstantiated claims made by a Polish woman went viral this week after she created an Instagram account named @ZZZZZZZZZ

She said she started wondering if she was Maddie "a few months ago" after hearing "something" from her grandma.

The young woman is 21 years old but believes her age could be wrong. Maddie was born in May 2003, meaning that she would now be 19.

However, German investigators believe Maddie - who disappeared during a family holiday in Portugal in 2007 - was killed by sex predator Christian Brueckner.

But despite extensive searches and countless police investigations, the youngster's body has never been found.

In recent months, people have taken to social media as part of a trend to show off their likeness to Maddie.

The most recent claims, made on Instagram, have seen the German woman comparing her photos to those of Maddie as "evidence" that they are the same person.

She claims to have a freckle on her leg and a speck in her eye in the same places as Madeleine.

Madeleine McCann went missing in 2007

The woman, who lives in Poland, is so ready to prove she is Maddie that she is asking for help to get a DNA test.

Her Instagram bio, on a profile that has now gained more than 200,000 followers, says: "I think I can be Madeleine. I need DNA test.

"Police investigators from UK and Poland try to ignore me. I will tell my story in posts here. Help me."

In a post published yesterday, the woman even claimed she talked to someone who claimed to be Madeleine's cousin and told her she could "have a possibility" to talk to Kate and Gerry McCann to arrange a DNA test.

These claims have not been addressed by Madeleine's family.

Answering questions she was asked by some followers, the unnamed woman said she does not remember being taken away and has no recollection of most details of her childhood.

She said: "I don't remember being taken away. I mean, I don't remember almost my entire childhood."

German authorities are "convinced" 46-year-old paedophile Brueckner abducted and murdered Maddie in Portugal in 2007.

Christian Brueckner
He is suspected of abducting and murdering Madeleine McCann

But more than three years since they named Brueckner as their prime suspect, they appear no nearer charging him, as they do not have enough evidence to prove he is responsible for her disappearance and murder.

Now the Mirror can reveal a friend claims prosecutors have admitted they are struggling to get enough evidence against him.

They have begun re-interviewing Brueckner's friends and associates in a bid to crack the case once and for all.

One pal, who knew the German when they were living in the Algarve together, spoke to detectives in recent months.

Maddie's parents Kate and Gerry McCann

He told The Mirror: "They believe Chris did it, they say they know he did it, but they told me they don’t have proof.

"That's why they are going back over old interviews. When they spoke to me they were very open about what the situation is.

"It felt like they are struggling. They just asked the same questions again, there was nothing new."

Biometric Analysis Shows Woman Claiming Shes' Madeleine McCann is NOT Missing Maddie

Francisco Marco - a private detective who led the hunt for Madeleine McCann after her disappearance - says he has carried out analysis which rules out the possibility of Julia Wendell being the missing girl

BBC 25 FEB 2023

Biometric analysis shows that a woman claiming to be Madeleine McCann bears no resemblance to the missing girl, an investigator has said.

Julia Wendell, from Poland, went viral this week after creating an Instagram account named iammadeleinemcann, saying she started wondering if she was Maddie "a few months ago" after hearing "something" from her grandma.

She alleged that the McCanns approached her to take a DNA test, and claimed to have a freckle on her leg as well as a speck in her eye in the same places as Maddie.

She is 21-years-old but believes her age could be wrong. Maddie was born in May 2003, meaning that she would now be 19.

However, Francisco Marco - a private detective who led the hunt for Maddie after her disappearance - says he has carried out analysis which rules out the possibility of Ms Wendell being the missing girl.

Ms Wendell alleged that the McCanns approached her to take a DNA test

He told Spanish network RAC1: "I have done a biometric search and there is no resemblance to Madeleine's features."

The former director of the Metodo 3 detective agency said it was strange that Ms Wendell posted the unsubstantiated claims to social media first, before reaching out to Maddie's family.

He added: "I can think it's a fraud, but I can't say without evidence.

"This girl contacted the police and no one paid attention to her, and she later opened the Instagram account where she now has thousands of followers when she had very few before."

In recent months, people have taken to social media as part of a trend to show their likeness to Maddie.

The most recent claims, made on TikTok and Instagram, have seen Ms Wendell comparing her photos to those of Maddie as "evidence" that they are the same person.

Despite extensive searches and countless police investigations, the youngster has never been found

She also wrote on her Instagram story: "I talked with someone from Madeleine's family and I will have a possibility to talk with Madeleine's parents tomorrow and DNA test will be done soon."

In a post published on Friday, Ms Wendell claimed to have spoken to someone who was alleged to be Madeleine's cousin, and who told her she could "have a possibility" to talk to Kate and Gerry McCann to arrange a DNA test.

These claims have not yet been addressed by Madeleine's family.

Her Instagram bio, on a profile that has now gained more than 200,000 followers, says: "I think I can be Madeleine. I need DNA test.

"Police investigators from UK and Poland try to ignore me. I will tell my story in posts here. Help me."

Answering questions she was asked by some followers, Ms Wendell said she does not remember being taken away and has no recollection of most details of her childhood.

Maddie's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann

She said: "I don't remember being taken away. I mean, I don't remember almost my entire childhood."

The latest comments come after a source close to the McCanns told the Daily Star Sunday that they are "willing to look at all leads".

They said: "The family are taking no chances, they are willing to look at all leads. It is important they look at all of the factors, the girl does look similar. There’s no disputing that.

"If what she says is true, there is every chance it could be her. It all adds up."

However, German investigators believe Maddie - who disappeared during a family holiday in Portugal in 2007 - was killed by sex predator Christian Brueckner, who has repeatedly denied having anything to do with the girl's disappearance.

But despite extensive searches and countless police investigations, the youngster's body has never been found.

More than three years since they named Brueckner as their prime suspect, police also appear no closer to charging him, as they do not have enough evidence to prove he is responsible for her disappearance and murder.

The Mirror had previously reported a friend's claims that prosecutors have admitted they are struggling to get enough evidence against him.

They have started re-interviewing Brueckner's friends and associates in a bid to crack the case once and for all.

One pal, who knew the German man when they were living in the Algarve together, spoke to detectives in recent months.

He said: "They believe Chris did it, they say they know he did it, but they told me they don’t have proof. That's why they are going back over old interviews. When they spoke to me they were very open about what the situation is.

"It felt like they are struggling. They just asked the same questions again, there was nothing new."

Madeleine McCann Prosecutor Says Investigation Into Prime Suspect Christian B Is Not Over After Court Ruling

Unrelated Charges Against Suspect in Madeleine McCann Disappearance Dropped

Last year, a court in the city of Braunschweig charged Christian Brueckner with five sexual offences.

But it now says it does not have jurisdiction because Brueckner last lived in a different part of Germany.

BBC News 21 APR 2023

A prosecutor handling the Madeleine McCann case said the investigation into prime suspect Christian Brueckner is still ongoing after a court dismissed a possible sexual assault trial

A court in Braunschweig made the call after deciding they didn't have jurisdiction over the case, lifting its warrant upon discovering the suspect's last registered place in the city was in 2016.

Meanwhile, there has yet to be a break in the years-long cold case involving the missing British toddler after RadarOnline.com exclusively obtained a copy of the DNA test evidence proving the woman claiming to be Maddie all grown up was, in fact, not the little girl who vanished in 2007 while on vacation with her parents in Portugal.

Although Christian B may not be charged over a series of alleged rapes and offenses, investigator Hans Christian Wolters said that "nothing has changed" on the McCann front in an interview with The Sun, confirming the investigation is still underway and the accused will remain in custody.

"With regard to the decision of the Regional Court of Braunschweig on jurisdiction in the pending proceedings, we will first carefully examine the reasons and then probably have the decision reviewed by the Higher Regional Court of Braunschweig," he explained.

"We continue to assume that we are responsible for a decision by the Higher Regional Court, so that the investigations into the Maddie case will continue as planned."

Madeleine McCann suspect Christian B investigated over second girl's disappearance...

More details are emerging of the new suspect in the Madeleine McCann case.

The man has been named as Christian B, a 43-year-old German, who is currently serving a prison sentence.
.
According to German media reports he is also being investigated in connection with the disappearance of a five-year-old girl in Germany.

He's believed to have been in the same part of southern Portugal when three-year-old Madeleine went missing while on holiday in 2007.

Madeleine McCanns' Sister - Now 18 - Makes Poignant Statement on Devastating Anniversary

Amelie, now 18, and applying to go to university was pictured for the first time since she was a toddler and gives a glimpse of what her older sibling may now look like as an adult

BBC News 4 MAY 2023

Madeleine McCann’s sister lit a candle in her memory tonight as she joined her parents and well wishers on the poignant 16th anniversary of her disappearance and later said: “It’s nice that everyone is here together but it’s a sad occasion.”

Amelie, now 18, and applying to go to university was pictured for the first time since she was a toddler and gives a glimpse of what her older sibling may now look like as an adult.

The young woman was warmly welcomed along with Kate and Gerry by locals and supporters during an informal prayer gathering in their home village of Rothley, Leicestershire. Her twin brother Sean did not attend.

Kate’s close friend Fiona Payne, one of her "Tapas Seven” pals who was on the fateful holiday in Portugal when three-year-old Maddie vanished in May 2007, was among the crowd.

Amelie took her turn to light a candle for Maddie and other missing children at the war memorial where pictures of her sister adorned the black railing and where a lantern of hope still glows around the clock for her.

Kate joined in prayers but neither she nor Gerry addressed the crowds.

Fiona, a doctor, read a moving poem “Hope is the thing with feathers” by Emily Dickinson. She later shared a warm embrace with Kate.

Vicar of the local parish church, the rev. Rob Gladstone, leading prayers at the informal outdoor, told supporters: “We are here this evening to show our loving concern for Madeleine and for all young children who have been taken away from their families against their will.

“We are also here to encourage one another to keep up hope and pray for a renewal of strength even after this long time.”

Amelie, accompanied by her friend Georgina, joined in repeating mantras read out by individual people in the 70-strong crowd including “Never never give up”, “leave no stone unturned”, “don’t forget about me” and “still missing, still missed."

Kate and Gerry cling onto a glimmer of hope that Maddie, who would now be aged 19, nearly 20 , could still be alive

Kate’s uncle, retired head teacher Brian Kennedy, 84, after the event: “Kate and Gerry are very moved by the size of the group of people who turned up.

“After all these years people still assemble - some come every time and some are new and we are very grateful.”

Brian, who lives in the same village with wife Janet, also addressed supporters. He said: “16 years without someone and still not knowing where they are is a very long time. Even if it was bad news, in some ways, would give us some closure. But with no closure there is still hope."

German police are convinced Maddie is dead and have been intent on charging prime suspect Christian Brueckner - sensationally named nearly three years ago - with her kidnap and “no body” murder.

But it recently emerged that the convicted paedophile may never face a trial in the high profile Maddie case, and with unrelated alleged sex offences, because of a legal technicality over foreign courts' jurisdiction.

Brueckner, 45, is currently serving a sentence in a German jail for the rape of an American tourist in the same Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz Maddie vanished from in May 2007.

He has vehemently denied any involvement in her abduction.

No suspects have ever been charged in connection with the world’s most talked about missing child mysteries.

British Police have recently asked the Home Office for more money to keep their investigation, codenamed Operation Grange and which has cost the taxpayer £13 million so far, going.

Madeleine McCann: Police to Search Portuguese Reservoir

Police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann are to carry out searches at a reservoir in Portugal.

BBC 23 MAY 2023

Police have been seen at the remote reservoir in the Algarve, a site 50km away from where Madeleine disappeared

A search of the Arade dam will begin on Tuesday, 50km from where the toddler went missing in Praia da Luz in 2007.

Christian Brueckner, 45, was made a formal suspect, or an "arguido", by Portuguese prosecutors in 2022.

The search was requested by German police as the area was visited by Brueckner when Madeleine, then three years old, disappeared.

Madeleine, from Rothley, Leicestershire, had been on holiday with her family in Portugal's Algarve when she went missing on 3 May 2007.

Portuguese police said in a press statement that it is co-ordinating searches in the Algarve over the next few days, with British officers also present.

Hans Christian Wolters, German state prosecutor in Braunschweig, told the BBC a short statement of confirmation would be released by the German authorities on Tuesday morning.

An area of the reservoir's peninsula just over a mile long was sealed off by police shortly after midday on Monday, Portuguese television network SIC reported.

The search is expected to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, it said.

Police have erected blue tents and are closing off roads leading to the man-made dam, while a total of 20 police officers have been assigned to the search.

Police have cordoned off a stretch of the reservoir and set up blue tents to conduct the search

Mr Wolters is treating Brueckner as the main suspect in the McCann case, although he has never been charged over Madeleine's disappearance and has denied any involvement.

The state prosecutor said a growing amount of evidence had connected Brueckner to the case, including his mobile phone records showing he was in the Praia de Luz area at the time of Madeleine's disappearance.

Brueckner, a German national, is currently in prison in Germany for the rape of a 72-year-old woman in 2005 in the same area where Madeleine McCann went missing.

He was living near the Praia da Luz resort when the McCann family was on holiday, and spent time in the area between 2000 and 2017.

It is not the first time the reservoir has been searched as part of the investigation.

In 2008, Portuguese lawyer Marcos Aragao Correia paid for specialist divers to check the waterway after he claimed to have been tipped off by criminal contacts that Madeleine's body was in the reservoir.

The most recent search in Portugal in relation to Madeleine's disappearance was in 2014, when British police were given permission to examine scrubland near where she vanished.

Earlier this month, Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry, held a vigil to mark the 16th anniversary of her disappearance.

They also marked their daughter's 20th birthday in May, vowing to "never give up" on finding their daughter.

"Happy birthday Madeleine. Still missing. Still very much missed. Still looking. For as long as it takes," they said in a post on the official Facebook page of the Find Madeleine Campaign.

"We love you and we're waiting for you. We're never going to give up."

Weird Madeleine McCann Shrine Found at Portugal Reservoir Where Police Were Searching

Ralf and Ann, a retired couple, took photographs of the shrine and sent them to Portuguese detectives, thinking they were of significance in the Madeleine McCann case

BBC 31 MAY 2023

A British couple claimed they spotted a bizarre "shrine" to missing Madeleine McCann in the reservoir police searched last week - just seven months after the toddler vanished.

The retired couple, who have asked to be named only as Ralf and Ann, took photographs of the memorial and sent them to Portuguese detectives.
The couple felt they were of significance, but never heard back.

The makeshift shrine consisted of boulders in the shape of an arrow pointing towards a picnic site, which was dug over by police last week at the Barragem do Arade in Portugal.

The memorial was weighed down by a large rock and had a bouquet of flowers and a photograph of abducted Madeleine on it, they said.

When prime suspect Christian Brueckner, 45, was identified by German police in 2020, Ralf and Ann contacted detectives after seeing an appeal for anyone who was on holiday in the Algarve when Madeleine went missing in May 2007 to get in touch.

German officers from the BKA (criminal investigation unit) responded within hours of Ralf and Ann emailing them on that occasion, and detectives quizzed them on the telephone for several hours before asking them to give a formal statement.

Ralf and Ann frequently stay in their holiday home just minutes from the reservoir in the Algarve.

Ralf, 66, recalled seeing a row of stones stretching out into the water and, on the last one, a bouquet of fresh white lilies. He went out and had a look, and on the stone where the flowers were, there was a photograph of Madeleine.

The retired builder described the scene as "very strange".

Movies re: Madeleine McCann; Christian Brueckners’ Lawyer Brags He’ll Get Rape Suspect FREED

Madeleine McCann Suspect Said 'She Didn't Scream' in Chilling Chat After Disappearance

A former friend of Christian Brueckner claims the convicted rapist once blurted out to him that "she didn't scream" as the pair were discussing the case over a few beers

BBC NEWS 30 JUNE 2023

Helge Busching was a former friend of Christian Brueckner

The chief suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann allegedly told a friend "she didn't scream" soon after she vanished.

Helge Busching claims Christian Brueckner made the chilling remark as the pair chatted about her disappearance in Portugal over beers.

Busching, who led police to Brueckner, has spoken publicly for the first time and says the suspect implied he had taken the British girl in 2007.

The pair had been friends in Portugal, before Busching claims he became sickened by video footage he found of Brueckner that showed him raping an American pensioner and a teenage girl.

Busching, a German national, said he stole videotapes and a firearm from Brueckner’s home before Madeleine disappeared and saw the footage.

He said: “[The victim] said: ‘This borders on rape!’ And he just said: ‘Shut up.’ That's when I knew what kind of guy Brueckner was.”

Madeleine was abducted in 2007

Christian Brueckner is the prime suspect over her disappearance

Busching says he met Brueckner again at a music festival in Spain in 2008 where they discussed the Madeleine McCann case and the suspect allegedly told him "she didn't scream".

He told German outlet Bild : “He asked me: ‘Don't you go to Portugal anymore and do business there?’

“I said: ‘No, since the girl disappeared there, there have been too many police checks for me and I don't need that at all.’

“[The topic of Madeleine's disappearance] came up and I said: ‘Anyway, I don't understand how the little one could have disappeared without a trace.’

“Christian had drunk two or three beers, and he said: ‘She didn't scream.’

She was three years old when she disappeared

“I thought: He knows that. He has something to do with it. But he also checked that I understood that and then left at night.

“At 3am or 4am he left a packed festival with his mobile home. I looked for him the next morning, but his neighbours said he had left.”

Busching also claims that he contacted Scotland Yard to tell police about Brueckner in 2008 but was ignored.

He said: “I called Scotland Yard back in 2008. At the Maddie hotline. I said I knew someone who might have something to do with it and gave them the name. But nothing happened there. Nothing! I was never called back.

“In 2017 I had just served a prison sentence in Greece. When I heard about the 10th anniversary of the disappearance, I remembered. Apparently the call didn't help at all.

“So I contacted Scotland Yard again. Then they listened to me.”

Update Re: FINALLY: Date Madeleine McCann PEDO Suspect Will Finally Go on Trial For Sex Crim

Exact Date Madeleine McCann PEDO Prime Suspect Will Finally Go on Trial For Sex Crimes

German paedophile Christian Brueckner, 46, was named by police as the prime suspect in the Madeleine McCann disappearance in 2022. He is set to go on trial for multiple sex crimes

BBC 30 NOV 2023

Madeleine McCann prime suspect Christian Brueckner is set to go on trial next year.

The paedophile will be in the dock facing charges for five sex crimes, three involving minors, on February 16 2024, German prosecutors have confirmed. It is expected to be presided over by a panel of four or five judges and could last up to three months, according to reports.

The 46-year-old's lawyer is understood to have accepted the start date despite filing a complaint against key witness Helge Busching. The trial will take place at Braunschweig High Court. Police identified Brueckner as a suspect in the McCann case in 2022 after it emerged he had reportedly been driving around the Praia da Luz resort in Portugal at the time the British youngster went missing in 2007.

He has always denied any involvement Madeleine's disappearance. Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters said: "It's set to begin on February 16, a Friday and a half day, but there should be enough time to hear all the charges. Everyone is available that day and assuming there are not too many holdups from Christian's lawyer, Mr Fulscher, we will hear his reply to the charges."

He continued: "The first witnesses will be brought in the following week. There will be four to five judges, two of them lay judges, normal people who are brought in for such cases."

Brueckner - who is currently serving a prison sentence in Germany for the rape of a 72-year-old American woman - is accused of three rapes, one of Irish girl, Hazel Behan, who was just 20 when she was viciously attacked during a four-hour ordeal in Portugal.

Two other attacks are said to have been filmed at the small farmhouse he rented just outside Praia da Luz, where Madeleine was snatched in May 2007. The victims were a teenage girl and an elderly woman. Brueckner is also accused of the sexual assault of a 10-year-old German girl, on a beach near Praia da Luz, a month before Madeleine disappeared. Another sexual assault on four children also took place in Portugal in 2017.

Brueckner's lawyer submitted an official complaint to the court over key witness Helge Busching, a former friend of the accused, and who he allegedly confessed the Madeleine abduction to in 2008.

Mr Wolters brushed this off, saying: "It will not be a problem at all, don't worry. I spoke to Helge yesterday and it's only an attempt to paint him in a bad picture." He added: "We understand the issue and he will be fine."

Mr Wolters said the Madeleine investigation continues and he expects a trial date to be "set soon".

Christian Brueckner Court Case SUSPENDED

TRIAL CHAOS Trial of Madeleine McCann Suspect Christian Brueckner SUSPENDED After 9 MINUTES Over Judges’ ‘Kill The B*****d’ Rant

MailOnline 18 FEB 2024

Christian B 'partied' after being grilled over Madeleine McCanns' disappearance

Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckners' unrelated sex trial is suspended after just nine minutes as lay judges' 'kill the bas***d' tweets are revealed: Defence lawyer boasts 'I have aces up my sleeve'

The trial of Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner was halted almost before it had even begun after the judge adjourned the court following the defence teams' successful attempt to discredit a lay judge.

Brueckner, 47, arrived in court in Brunswick, Germany to stand trial on a slew of sex abuse charges - his first public appearance in four years.

He was pictured pulling up in a prison van outside the courtroom wearing a dark green hooded sweater concealing a drab grey jacket and shirt, and his beady blue eyes could be seen peering out between the bars crisscrossing the vehicle's windows.

He was then hauled out and marched past a clamouring crowd of some 40 journalists toward the courthouse in handcuffs by three burly security guards, and was pictured wearing a sombre expression as he arrived in the courtroom.

But the trial got off to an explosive start when his lawyer, Dr Sebastian Fuelscher, began proceedings by immediately attempting to discredit one of the lay judges - Ms Britta Thielen-Donckel - revealing she had repeatedly called for the assassination of the Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro on social media.

Lay judges collaborate with regular judges in trials, participating in deliberations and assisting in rendering verdicts and deciding sentences.

He read out some of the social media posts, which included 'Kill the b******!' and 'Kill the devil', declaring the 'radical' comments made her unsuitable to carry out her role as a lay judge.

The judge adjourned the court after just nine minutes to consider the request, before returning 40 minutes later and duly removed Ms Thielen-Donckel from the panel, scoring an early win for Brueckner's defence team.

Court was immediately adjourned until next Friday as authorities search for a replacement lay judge, with Brueckner returned to his cell.

Speaking to press as he left court, smarmy Fuelscher cryptically smirked: 'I have many aces up my sleeve.'

Madeleine McCann; Christian Brueckners’ Lawyer Brags He’ll Get Rape Suspect FREED From Jail

Full horror of Christian Brueckners' sex crime allegations are revealed in court: Madeleine McCann suspect 'left one victim fearing he would behead her, whipped woman in her seventies at least 20 times and made a girl vomit during abuse'

MailOnline 23 FEB 2024

The full horror of Christian Brueckners' sex crime allegations have been revealed in court today.

The Madeleine McCann suspect has allegedly left one victim fearing he would behead her, whipped a woman in her seventies at least 20 times and made a girl vomit during abuse.

Convicted rapist Brueckner, 47, is accused of three rapes and two sex assaults said to have been carried out on Portugal's Algarve coast in a period from 2000 to 2017.

The attacks took place just minutes from where then three-year-old Madeleine vanished from the holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in May 2007 where she was staying with parents Kate and Gerry and her siblings.

She has not been seen since and in June 2020 German police sensationally named Brueckner as the man responsible for her 'abduction and murder' but he has yet to be charged with anything relating to her disappearance.

Shocking details of how Brueckner's victim Hazel Behan, who said she was attacked in 2004 while working in the Algarve as a tour guide, feared she would be 'beheaded' by her attacker were read out in court.

The other two rapes he is accused of against an unknown woman aged between 70 and 80 years old and a girl of 14 were also described in horrific details, with the prosecutor saying Brueckner 'hit the [older] woman's body and face with at least 20 lashes' using a whip and made the teenager vomit while orally raping her.

Prosecutor Ute Lindemann told the court that Brueckner had used a rape drug to incapacitate his victims before trapping them in his house.

Shocking details of Hazel Behan's alleged rape were also read out in court this morning.

Ms Lindemann said: 'After the beating had ended, the accused untied the witness Behan from the breakfast bar, while keeping her hands tied with the victim's own belt and gagged, and dragged her naked by her hair back into the bedroom.

'There, standing in front of her, he put a fresh condom over his penis and tried to penetrate the victim orally, which was initially unsuccessful because of the continued gagging.

'When she choked and told the accused that she was going to vomit, he angrily stopped the oral sex and pushed the injured woman backwards with his hand against her forehead, causing her to fall to her feet with her hands still tied behind her back.

'He then roughly grabbed her by the hair, dragged her back into the living room and initially let her go in order to take his knife, which he had left next to the television.

'During this time, the injured party slipped into a corner of the living room and crouched there. While holding the knife, the accused asked the injured party to go to the bathroom, which she verbally refused in no uncertain terms.

'The accused did not pursue this request, but instead grabbed the injured party by her hair again, dragged her to the small sofa in front of the living room window and asked her to kneel in front of the sofa and lower her head.

'At that moment, the witness Behan was in fear of death because she feared that the accused would cut off her head with the knife.

At this point he was dressed entirely in black, wearing leather gloves and a full face mask. This only had two round cutouts for the eyes and a small slit for the mouth, so that the injured party could only see the accused's eyes and his eyebrows.

'He held a knife with an approximately 30 cm long blade in his left hand, knelt over the sleeping victim and called her name, which woke her up. He held the knife in such a way that the injured party could see it clearly when she woke up.

While she was panicking, he told her in a serious but calm tone not to scream, covered her mouth and pushed her head back onto the pillow. He then pulled her up from the bed by her outer clothing and hair and turned her onto her back.

'In this position he pulled her pants and panties down to her ankles. He then turned her again so that she was kneeling on the bed on all fours in a kind of doggy position.

'While performing anal intercourse, he temporarily touched the injured woman's hips with his hands and held her by her hair.

'After completing anal intercourse, the accused removed the condom from his penis, put it in the backpack he had brought with him and cleaned his gloves with a cleaning cloth he had brought with him.

'The accused then grabbed the victim firmly by her hair and dragged her out of the bed onto the bedroom floor, where she initially came to lie next to the bed. The accused pulled her by her hair into the kitchen area to the breakfast bar there.

'Once there, he pulled her up by her hair and placed her with her stomach and face on the wooden board of the breakfast bar, which is supported on the side by two metal legs.

'He then took a rope from the backpack he had brought with him, tied the victim's upper body to the bar and tied the ends of the rope tightly on her back. He then took a video camera out of his bag and positioned it on the television.

'He then went back to the breakfast bar with additional ropes that he had brought with him, lifted the legs of the injured parties and tied one leg each to a metal leg of the bar.

'Witness Hazel Behan found the way her legs were tied very painful because she was unable to keep her feet on the floor, which meant the thin, clothesline-like ropes cut into her legs.

Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner (pictured) has arrived in court as prosecutors attempt to start his sex crimes trial following last week's chaotic start

Three-year-old Madeleine vanished from the holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, in Portugal's Algarve coast, in May 2007 where she was staying with parents Kate and Gerry and her siblings

'The accused removed the belt from the victim's trousers in the bedroom, tied her hands behind her back and put a piece of material he had brought with him, similar to a cloth, into her mouth as a gag.

'He went into the bedroom again and returned to her with a pair of scissors, which the victim had kept in a box under the bed.

'He used this to cut her top and bra, so that the injured party was now completely naked and unable to move in front of him.

'During this phase of the incident, the accused took the video camera from the television and filmed the victim from all around, turning her head into the position he wanted.

'He then returned the camera to the television and placed it in the direction of the breakfast bar, to which he returned. The accused, standing behind the witness Behan, put a fresh condom over his penis and again penetrated the victim anally, who he had positioned in this way.

During this anal sex he penetrated the witness Hazel Behan less brutally and hatefully, but still very violently. However, he significantly extended the time of the sexual act in front of the camera.

'Given the severe pain, the injured party, Hazel Behan, bit hard on the fabric gag and found it difficult to breathe. After the sexual act had ended, he removed the condom from his penis and cleaned his hands again. He then put the condom back in the bag he had brought with him.'

Carrying on she said: 'The accused now turned to the witness Behan with the question "You're scared, aren't you?", which she untruthfully denied.

'The accused then took a whip with a handle and long leather tassels out of his pocket and systematically whipped the victim from the back down to the buttocks, which, according to the accused's plan, caused her considerable pain.

'When the injured party was asked again after the flogging whether she was now afraid, she had now broken her resistance and answered in the affirmative to the satisfaction of the accused.'

The other two rapes he is accused of against an unknown woman aged between 70 and 80 years old and a girl of 14 were also described in horrific details.

The prosecutor said: 'He was masked with a stocking mask that only had holes for his eyes and mouth.

'He put swimming goggles on the older lady, who was wearing a nightgown. Since their glasses were painted gray, the victim could no longer see anything.

'He laid the woman on her stomach on her bed and tied her hands behind her back to make it impossible for the victim to resist what was happening.

'He then set up the cameras he had brought with him in two different positions in the bedroom, aimed them at the bed and started recording.

'He now turned the old lady onto her back and pulled her nightgown up to her waist. After sexual intercourse had ended, he removed the condom from his penis and went to the bathroom in the apartment.

There he flushed the condom down the toilet. He then went back to the victim's bed with a whip and hit the woman's body and face with at least 20 lashes in order to enjoy the pain and fear he wanted in the woman.

'The victim screamed and insulted the accused while the crime was being carried out. After the physical punishment, the accused sat down on the end of the bed, breathing heavily, took off his mask and placed a pillow on the completely frightened woman's face before ending the recording.'

Detailing the teenager's attack she said: 'The accused met an unknown, German-speaking, youthful-looking girl with glasses, aged at least 14 years, in the Sitio das Lages house in Praia that he lived in da Luz, Lagos in Portugal tied naked to the wooden post in the living room.

'For this purpose, he put her hands around the post behind her back and tied them together. First he hit the naked girl with a whip. The girl addressed the accused by the name "Chris" and made it clear to him that what he was doing was against her express will.

'She begged him to stop and shouted "this is kidnapping, this is rape". The accused acknowledged the girl's conflicting will, but only put the whip aside and gave in to his excitement.'

The prosecutor then alleged Brueckner performed oral rape on the victim, which caused her to vomit.

She added: 'The accused commented succinctly on this circumstance with the words: "Now you're messing up my entire carpet." He also videotaped this act.'

In his rebuttal of the indictment Mr Fulscher conceded that Hazel Behan, who has waived her anonymity, was raped and 'went through something terrible that night'.

But he added:' Although there is a witness statement in the files from a person close to Mrs Behan who accuses the co-plaintiff of having made up the whole incident and describes the co-plaintiff as a quasi-diabolical person.'

He added:' A masked man forced her to have sex, inflicted pain on her and humiliated her. However, the person who committed this offence was not the defendant. Mrs Behan may be convinced of this.

'During the hearing of evidence, it will be important for the defence to demonstrate the sources of error in the witness's recognition: Starting with the low reliability of estimating body size, the circumstance of masking, the poor lighting conditions at the crime scene, the impact of the weapon focus effect, as well as the stress level and the passage of time.

'If one comes to the conclusion that the witness is sufficiently reliable with regard to the description of the person, this will also have to be taken as a basis for her observation that the perpetrator had a cross-shaped scar on his right thigh.

'This is a physical feature that the accused does not have and therefore excludes him as the perpetrator.

'At the end of the hearing of evidence, it will not be possible to establish that the defendant sitting here is responsible for the offence committed against Hazel Behan. As in the other cases, he will have to be acquitted.'

The greatest challenge for the court in these proceedings will be to free itself from these ulterior motives when investigating the procedural truth and assessing the evidence with regard to the accusations levelled.'

Proceedings started with Mr Fulscher confirming his client's name and date of birth before prosecutor Ute Lindemann read out the five charges against him.

Turning to face her Brueckner listened intently as he consulted a file in front of him, making notes and occasionally turning to whisper to his legal team.

Ms Lindemann took almost 25 minutes to read out the indictment against him, which detailed the charges and he remained impassive throughout as he fixed his gaze on her.
