These days Giancarlo Granda knows better than anyone that religion, sex and politics make an unholy trinity.

When he was working as a young pool attendant at a ritzy hotel in Florida he met an older woman who wanted to get to know him. Giancarlo was invited back to her hotel suite, but when he arrived was shocked to find the woman’s husband waiting in the room.

And then there was another surprise. He realised his new friends were Becki and Jerry Falwell Jr, two of the biggest names in America’s evangelical movement. In fact, Jerry Falwell was also a political kingmaker who helped Trump win the U.S. presidency in 2016.

But as Tom Steinfort reports, the biggest surprise of all for Giancarlo Granda was the god-awful, decade-long mess created when he tried to expose the truth about these religious hypocrites.

How did Giancarlo meet the Falwells?

Giancarlo told Reuters he was 20 when he met Jerry and Becki in March 2012. He was working as a pool attendant at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel when he noticed Becki snapping photos of him.

When he spoke to her, according to The Daily Beast, she allegedly said: “Don’t waste your time with the younger ones. They don’t know what they’re doing.” Becki then asked Giancarlo to return to her hotel room with her to have sex while her husband watched. He said yes.
