A grandmother has admitted she wishes her son-in-law would kill her so that she could guarantee he goes back to prison and stays there.

Diana Parkes sadly lost her daughter Joanna in 2010 after her husband Robert Brown murdered her by hitting her over the head with a claw hammer 14 times.

He then dumped her lifeless body in a grave he had spent months digging in Windsor Great Park.

Brown was acquitted of murder and given a 26-year sentence for manslaughter, but he will be released next year after serving just half of the sentence.

Appearing on Wednesday's Lorraine, Diana spoke about her concerns for Brown being released.

Diana Parkes appeared on Wednesday's Lorraine to talk about her daughter's tragic murder

"As we're approaching his release, it is a total nightmare," Diana explained.

"We're frightened, not just for our family, but for the public in general. You know, he committed a horrendous crime... hitting my daughter over the head with a claw hammer 14 times, causing 37 injuries to her head whilst her children could hear it happening."

Diana took on her two grandchildren following their mother's horrific murder and said she's so proud of the young adults they have become.

Diana appeared on the show alongside her daughter Joanna's best friend Hetti Barkworth-Nanton

"I'm so proud of them, they've grown to be two of the most loveliest people, they're 22 and 21 now and finishing their degrees at university," Diana said of her grandchildren.

"They helped me amazingly, I had a purpose in life to look after them."

When Lorraine Kelly asked if Diana and her family had been reassured about their safety and given support, she replied: "The strange thing is Lorraine, that the victims are left in the dark all of the time. Everything is for the perpetrator, he is guarded, we get told nothing."

Towards the end of the interview, Lorraine told her she hopes she gets the support she deserves, but she clearly wasn't expecting Diana's response.

"It's my family who need support, I'm fine and I've lived my life," she said, before adding: "In a way, I wish he'd kill me because then they'll all be safe because he'd definitely be put away for good then."
