Worlds' Biggest Cat is So Tall He Can Open The Door Himself

Kefir, an enormous pet cat, who is the same size as a two-year-old child, has amassed thousands of fans online thanks to his sweet looks and larger than life personality

An enormous cat thought to be the world's biggest is now tall enough to open a door, much to the delight of social media users.

Kefir, a Maine Coon, is no stranger to the spotlight, as his owner, Yulia Minina, from Russia, regularly shares Instagram posts showing off his impressively long torso and legs. But their thousands of followers - 72,000 and counting - were nonetheless surprised to see just how tall Kefir has grown.

At a similar height to Yulia's toddler, Anechka, he's now tall enough to open doors - with help. In a recent video, the giant pet can be seen standing on his hind legs, reaching the height of a door handle with ease.

Moments later, Kefir rushes outside to stretch his long limbs in the sun before relaxing in the garden. Elsewhere, footage shows Kefir and Anechka, then two, spending time together in the house. One adorable clip sees the inseparable pair lounging on the sofa, while the youngster watched cartoons.

In the same video, the duo head to the kitchen and the little girl can be seen preparing a snack for her feline friend. Keen for a taste, Kefir leans patiently on the kitchen counter before leaning across for a nibble - stretching out in size to the same height as the youngster. "Sweet couple, Kefir and Anechka. These two are never bored," wrote Yulia, and fans flocked to praise the "gentle giant", as he's been dubbed.

"Kefir as tall as Anechka. You can tell that they are a couple," wrote one person. A second added: "Perfect friendship, how adorable!" Meanwhile, another remarked: "Oh my God I thought it was a dog."

Praising her pet, Yulia previously said: "He not only grew up big in appearance, he is also very smart and always behaves calmly. The look is generally like that of a person, and Kefir has a formidable appearance, but he is a very affectionate and modest child." Maine Coons are domesticated cats, originating from the US state of Maine. Known for their size, they are one of the oldest natural breeds in North America.
