How To Automatically Check Links [Updated: 28 January 2020]

As you know, we strive to keep everything posted here up to date.
That is why we ask everyone to help keep "clean" by reporting any dead links that you may find.

================================================== ==============================

What many of you don't know, is that there is an easy way to find out if the links you are looking at are live or dead.

All you have to do is open any page that contain download links and this is what you will see..

Couldn't be any easier ... could it ?

As I said before, this is a very simple procedure that can be done with just a few clicks.
The way to do this is by installing an Extension and a small User-script into your browser.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++
IMPORTANT:
To install and use these addons, Javascript must be enabled in your browser.
These addons have been used by people for many months & are completely safe.
Neither of these contain any malware or viruses.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++

For Firefox 57+ and Chrome users, the Extension is "Tampermonkey"
https://www.tampermonkey.net/

When you enter the site, the browser you are using should be shown chosen automatically.

Click the "Download" button (green arrow) and you will be forwarded to the add-on web site where you can download and install the extension.

If you have any problems downloading & installing, watch the video on the Tampermonkey webpage
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++

And for Opera users, the Extension is "Violent Monkey"

UPDATE:
It seems that Violent Monkey is no longer supported by Opera Browser.
We suggest that you use either Firefox or Chrome with Tampermonkey for this purpose.

We apologize for any inconvenience.
================================================== ==========
Unfortunately, IE users can not use these extensions.
I recommend using Firefox to be able to check links in this manner.

UPDATE:
Tampermonkey / WAR may work with Microsoft Edge.
If anyone can confirm this, please post a reply below
================================================== ==========

Now the first part is done ... The next part is just as easy

Now you need to install a small user script called:

W.A.R. Links Checker Customized - Premium Link Version

I have chosen the Premium Link Version because, not only will it show you if the links are working, but it will also show if it is a Premium link.

A Premium link can only be downloaded by a user who has a Premium account with that filehost.

Installing the W.A.R. User Script

Open this webpage with the browser you have Greasemonkey installed to:
http://usa.x10host.com/mybb/showthread.php?tid=23

On the left, you will see a green "Install" button
Simply click the button and the W.A.R. User Script will install itself automatically

You may read the Summary below the Install button, but a more detailed description has been posted below.

Now on to the Configuration !!!

Now that you have both Tampermonkey installed, you should check that it is set to update automatically.

To do this, click the "Tools" button in your browsers Menu Bar and select "Add-ons"

Find the Extension "Tampermonkey" and click it

In the window that appears, make sure that the radio button
in the "Allow automatic updates" is set to "On"

This will allow Tampermonkey to automatically update.

Now on to the W.A.R. Link Checker Configuration Manager:

NOTE:
Due to coding conflicts, the W.A.R. Configuration Manager will not display correctly on some sites
I suggest opening a new tab and going to another website (yahoo works OK).
You can switch between tabs to continue reading this & editing W.A.R. on the other tab.
The Manager window will not close until you click the "X" or close the tab.

Click the Tampermonkey icon and select "[W.A.R. Links Checker] Configuration

(Note: If you do not see the Configuration selection, make sure the ON/OFF button to the left of
"W.A.R. links Checker Premium" is on. The switch should be green.)

When clicked, the W.A.R. Configuration Manager will appear.
The first thing you should do is to click the "Select All" button.
This will ensure all of the file-hosts are selected.

Next, scroll down and un-tick the "Obsolete file hosts" button

This will prevent W.A.R. from checking older, unused file hosts & allow it to run faster.

The next tab configures web "Containers"

The "Select None" button should be used as container links are not allowed at some sites

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++

The next tab is "Custom rules"

This section should be left to advanced users.
If you are comfortable editing Custom Rules, this is the section to do so.

The next tab is the "Settings" tab
This is where you configure how W.A.R. looks & performs

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++

The top section allows you to chose if you want to use the built in keyboard shortcuts.

If you already have these shortcuts enabled with other resources, make sure you un-tick this box.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++

The next section allows you to colorize the links you are checking
I highly suggest leaving this enabled, as this is how you will see if your links are good or not.

Note that the colors used here are not the default colors that come with W.A.R.
You may pick the colors you want by right-clicking the w3schools.com link & opening in a new window.
You can change the color by editing the hex code in each color box.
I suggest copying each hex code before you change it, so you can change it back if needed.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++

Below the colors, there are a few options on how you would like W.A.R. to configure the links
If you need help with these, please feel free to ask.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++

Right below that, you can chose which icon to use

This is not mandatory ... it just adds another visualization to your links.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++

The last part of this tab has a few more settings:

* Autocheck
W.A.R. starts checking links automatically

* Show progress stats
this shows a very small progress bar at the bottom right corner of your browser

* Display tooltip info
This shows a popup with the file name, file size ... etc.
Nice option, but slows W.A.R down considerably

* Enable Anonymizer
This will prevent links from becoming "live" by removing any referrals

The last tab is the "About" tab

This just shows current information about the W.A.R. Link Checker.

There is nothing to change or set here

If you have followed this tutorial & set the options as I have shown, you can easily check the download links posted.

This is how a page with multiple links will look:

SEE ???
I TOLD YOU IT WAS EASY !!!!

Now that you can easily check links
