Rickie Lee Jones is born. (1954)

Dick Clark's traveling Caravan of Stars opens its fall 1963 tour in Teaneck, New Jersey. The bill features Bobby Vee, Brian Hyland, the Ronettes, LIttle Eva and the Dovells among others. (1963)

Cynthia Powell Lennon is granted a divorce from her husband of six years, John Lennon, in a London court. John is absent from court. He is attending Yoko Ono in a hospital, where it is feared she might suffer a miscarriage (she miscarries on November 21). (1968)

Jean Terrell replaces Diana Ross in the Supremes. (1968)

On the second date of their U.S. tour, the Rolling Stones break the Los Angeles concert gross record held by the Beatles since 1966. They add an extra date to their L.A. Forum stand and a fourth date to their upcoming gig at New York's Madison Square Garden. (1969)

Jim Morrison records the poetry that the other members of the Doors would set to music after his death and issue on the 1978 album, "An American Prayer." (1970)

Sly & the Family Stone have huge hits with "Family Affair" and "There's a Riot Goin' On". The album's title could well describe some of Sly's concerts during this time. Much to his fans' dismay, he's a frequent no-show. Of eighty concerts booked in 1970, he canceled 26 and has ducked out of 12 of forty shows in '71. (1971)

Singer Ivory Joe Hunter dies in Memphis. Hunter was best known for his R&B hits, "Since I Lost You Baby," "I Almost Lost My Mind" and "I Need You So." (1974)

The Grateful Dead's "Shakedown Street" LP is released. (1979)
