Elvis Presley's "I Forgot to Remember to Forget Her," hits #2 on the Memphis charts. The Number One song is Johnny Cash's "Cry, Cry, Cry." (1955)

Bobby Darin's "Mack The Knife" hits #1 on the pop chart. (1959)

"Love Me Do", backed with "P.S. I Love You," the Beatles' first single, is released in the U.K. It's out on the Parlophone label and gets its first radio play that evening on the EMI-owned Radio Luxembourg. It peaks to #17 on the U.K. chart in December. (1962)

The Who, Small Faces, the Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Joe ****er kick off a package tour of Britain with a concert in London. (1968)

Cream begins its farewell tour of the U.S., with a concert in Oakland, California. (1968)

Cream's "White Room" and Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride" are released. (1968)

The Rolling Stones' "Street Fighting Man" peaks at #48 on the chart. (1968)

The Who perform on "The Ed Sullivan Show." (1969)

Dianne Linkletter, daughter of TV personality Art Linkletter and an aspiring actress, leaps to her death from her West Hollywood apartment. Linkletter claims his daughter was under the influence of LSD at the time of her apparent suicide. He says "it isn't suicide, it's murder." (1969)

Randy Newman performs at the Atlanta Symphony Hall, accompanied by an 87 piece symphony orchestra. Conducting the orchestra is Randy's uncle Emil Newman. (1974)

The Guess Who's "Clap For The Wolfman" peaks at #6 on the chart. (1974)

Harry Chapin's "Cats in the Cradle" is released. (1975)

Hall and Oates' second album, "Abandoned Luncheonette," which contained their original hit version of Tavares' #1 R&B tune, "She's Gone," is certified gold three weeks after its release. (1976)

Former Temptations singer Eddie Kendricks dies of lung cancer. He was 52. (1992)

Paul McCartney releases his first album since the death of his wife Linda in April 1998. Entitled Run Devil Run, the CD is a collection of rare rock oldies with new McCartney songs. (1999)
