Lisa Marie Presley revealed her son Benjamin Keoughs' suicide 'detonated and destroyed' her and her three daughters' lives.

The singer, who shared Benjamin with her ex-husband Danny Keough, candidly spoke about his tragic death in an essay for National Grief Awareness Day.

Benjamin died by suicide on July 12, 2020, at the age of 27 in Lisa's mansion in Calabasas, California.

Lisa wrote in her essay for People her son's death 'destroyed' her but she had to find a way to move on for her young daughters.

The 54-year-old shares daughter Riley Keough with Danny, and shares 13-year-old twins Finley and Harper with Michael Lockwood.

"Grief is something you will have to carry with you for the rest of your life, in spite of what certain people or our culture wants us to believe," she wrote.

"You do not "get over it," you do not "move on," period.

Lisa was 'destroyed' by his passing

Lisa went on to explain how 'incredibly lonely' grief is as people show their support at the beginning but soon 'gone on with their own lives'.

"If you're incredibly lucky, less than a handful will remain in contact with you after the first month or so. Unfortunately, that is a cold hard truth for most," Lisa said. "So, if you know someone who lost a loved one, regardless of how long it's been, please call them to see how they are doing. Go visit them, they will really really appreciate it, more than you know …

The musician says you can feel 'judged' as a parent of someone who died by suicide.

"I already battle with and beat myself up tirelessly and chronically, blaming myself every single day and that's hard enough to now live with, but others will judge and blame you too, even secretly or behind your back which is even more cruel and painful on top of everything else," Lisa said.

She advised how support groups can help before adding that 'nothing takes away the pain'. However, having support helps 'you feel a little bit less alone.'

The star dealt with grief from a young age as she lost her father Elvis when she was nine years old.

"It's a real choice to keep going, one that I have to make every single day and one that is constantly challenging to say the least ... But I keep going for my girls," she said.

"I keep going because my son made it very clear in his final moments that taking care of his little sisters and looking out for them were on the forefront of his concerns and his mind. He absolutely adored them and they him."

Lisa added: "My and my three daughters' lives as we knew it were completely detonated and destroyed by his death. We live in this every. Single. Day."

She said she shared the essay in order to raise awareness about grief and loss.

The star hopes it helps someone 'who is suffering as I and my children suffer'.

Lisa Marie and Benjamin were said to be so close that, in 2009, they got matching tattoos.

Three years later, she wrote the song Storm And Grace about him.

The outlet said that she had suffered a "full arrest" before a bystander administered epinephrine - commonly known as adrenaline - to help her regain a pulse.

Born in 1968, Lisa Marie went on to follow in her father's footsteps and forged a career in music. The star released three albums, with her 2003 debut studio album selling hundreds of thousands of copies and receiving generally positive reviews.

Presley was last seen in public on Tuesday night at the Golden Globes Awards in Beverley Hills.

Accompanied by her mother, the pair were seen breaking down in tears as they watched Austin Butler win the Best Actor prize for his portrayal of her father.

During an emotional speech, the actor thanked the Presley family for their help during the film.

Four days after the memorial on January 22, Lisa Marie’s mum Priscilla filed a petition in court questioning the “authenticity” of a bombshell change to a document.

The amendment to Lisa Marie’s living trust – which can serve as a will after death – has seemingly cut Priscilla out of any claim to Elvis’ estate.

Priscilla said she had only just found out about the change made in 2016. It removed her and Lisa Marie’s ex-business manager as co-trustees and gave control of the trust to Lisa Marie’s eldest children Benjamin Keough, who died by suicide at 27 in 2020, and Riley Keough.

A source says Riley, 33, and gran Priscilla, 77, “do not see eye to eye”. Priscilla has suggested her daughter’s signature may have been forged on the document.

This row is seemingly not the only thing that has sparked family conflict since Lisa Marie’s death.

Sources say there was one man’s attendance at the memorial service that left some relatives all shook up.

Lisa Marie Presleys' autopsy and toxicology reports reveal new details about her death, including the role that a past weight loss surgery played.

Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of rock 'n' roll legend Elvis, died of a bowel obstruction, the Los Angeles County medical examiner's office has said.

The obstruction was a result of adhesions caused by weight-loss surgery she underwent several years ago.

Presley, also a singer, died after being rushed to a California hospital on 12 January. She was 54.

Her last public appearance was two days before her death, at the Golden Globes.

At the time of Presley's death, local officials said first responders had been dispatched to her home in Calabasas, where they found her in cardiac arrest.

On Thursday, the medical examiner's office ruled that she died of natural causes and said that the cardiac arrest was caused by a "small bowel obstruction".

This occurs when the small intestine is blocked, sometimes as a result of colon cancer, medication or adhesions (scar tissue) that form after surgeries. Some conditions that inflame intestines can also lead to small bowel obstructions.

In Presley's case, the report found that the adhesions were caused by weight-loss surgery, known as bariatric surgery, that she underwent several years ago.

"This is a known long-term complication of this type of surgery," the medical examiner's report noted.

Dr Angelique Campen, an emergency room physician at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, told the BBC's US partner, CBS, that deaths from small bowel obstructions are rare.

In many cases, patients in such cases experience significant pain and would probably be admitted to hospital.

Presley, a singer and songwriter, was ultimately buried next to her son Benjamin Keough, who killed himself in 2020.

After her death, her mother, Priscilla Presley, filed a legal challenge to the will's validity, arguing that she was unaware of a 2016 amendment that had ousted her as a trustee overseeing Lisa Marie's estate.

Instead, the amendment named Benjamin Keough and a daughter, Riley, as co-trustees. Both were the children of Lisa Marie's first-husband, Danny Keough.

The legal dispute was settled in May. The details were never made public.

Born in 1968, Lisa Marie Presley followed in her father's footsteps as a musician and released three albums over the course of her career.
