Movies Princess Diana: Mohamed Al-Fayeds’ Daughter Charged With Robbery

Published August 17, 2013

FoxNews.com

  • July 2, 1994: Diana, Princess of Wales, accompanied by her son Prince William (R), is seen arriving at Wimbledon's Centre Court before the start of the Women's Singles final in London in this file photograph. (REUTERS)
LONDON – British police say they are examining newly received information relating to the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed, and that officers are assessing the information's "relevance and credibility."
Scotland Yard declined to provide details about the information, only saying Saturday in a statement that the assessment will be carried out by officers from its specialist crime and operations unit.

The force stressed that it was not reopening the investigation into the 1997 deaths of Diana and Fayed, who were killed in a car crash in Paris.

Sky News reported that an unnamed source said the new information is believed to be that Diana and Fayed were killed by a member of the British military. The information was passed to police by the parents-in-law of a former soldier, the report said.

"The information we're told was passed to Scotland Yard quite recently through the Royal Military Police. It also includes, we understand, references to something known as Diana's diary," Martin Brunt, Sky News’ crime correspondent said.

In 2008, a British jury ruled that Diana, the Princess of Wales, and her companion, Fayed, were unlawfully killed due to reckless speed and drinking by their driver, and by the reckless pursuit of paparazzi chasing them.

Update re: New Info>Princess Diana's Death-She Knew She was in Danger

Was Princess Diana MURDERED by British Soldier? Metropolitan Police 'Assessing Credibility' of new claim made in Court Martial of SAS Sniper Danny Nightingale

  • Police 'scoping information' and 'assessing its relevance and credibility'
  • The force has said it 'is not a re-investigation' into their deaths
  • Diana, Dodi Al Fayed and chauffeur Henri Paul died in Paris crash in 1997
  • Inquest concluded in 2008 when jury returned verdict of unlawful killing
OLDER Report (18 August 2013) By Daily Mail UK,

Scotland Yard last night said they were assessing the credibility of new information relating to the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed including an allegation that they were murdered by a member of the British military.
It said it was 'scoping' the information, which surfaced in the second court martial of Sergeant Danny Nightingale, the SAS sniper convicted of illegally stashing a pistol and 338 bullets in his bedroom.

The allegation was contained in a letter from the parents-in-law of Soldier N, Sgt Nightingale's former housemate, which was sent to the SAS's commanding officer in September 2011.

Police have said they are 'assessing' information it has recently received in relation to the
deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed

It is understood the information was passed to the Metropolitan Police through the Royal Military Police.
The letter says Soldier N claimed the SAS 'was behind Princess Diana's death' and it had been 'covered up'.

The letter said:

Quote:
'He (soldier N) also told her (his wife) that it was XXX who arranged Princess Diana's death and that has been covered up.'

A statement issued by Scotland Yard said: 'The Metropolitan Police Service is scoping information that has recently been received in relation to the deaths and assessing its relevance and credibility.

'The assessment will be carried out by officers from the specialist crime and operations command.

'This is not a re-investigation and does not come under Operation Paget.'

Police said they are not prepared to discuss the matter further, while a royal spokeswoman said there will be no comment on the matter from Prince William or Prince Harry, or from Clarence House.

Police said the deaths of Diana and Mr Al Fayed were 'thoroughly investigated' and examined
by an inquest led by Lord Justice Scott Baker at the Royal Court of Justice in 2007 to 2008

Diana, Dodi and chauffeur Henri Paul died after their Mercedes crashed in the tunnel, which left the Ritz Hotel on the morning of August 31 1997.

The hearing into the deaths of Diana and Dodi lasted more than 90 days with evidence from around 250 witnesses.
The inquests concluded on April 7, 2008, with a jury returning a verdict that the 'People's Princess' and her boyfriend were unlawfully killed.

After the hearing, Metropolitan Police said they had spent £8 million on services arising from the inquest and the Operation Paget investigation from 2004 to 2006.

Diana, Mr Al Fayed (pictured) and chauffeur Henri Paul died after their Mercedes crashed
in a tunnel in Paris on the morning of August 31, 1997

That money includes the cost of the legal team which represented the force's commissioner at the inquest, police protection for the inquest jury and paying for the Paget inquiry, reported to have cost £3.6 million.

Former Met Police Commissioner Lord Stevens's Paget investigation was launched in 2004 at the request of Michael Burgess, the Royal Coroner, who was then overseeing the future Diana inquest.

The former top policeman published his report in December 2006, rejecting the murder claims voiced by some, including Dodi's father Mohamed al Fayed.
Lord Stevens's investigation found that Diana was not murdered by British spies nor by the Duke of Edinburgh and she was not pregnant nor engaged to boyfriend Dodi.

Operation Paget concluded, just like the French investigation in 1999, that driver Henri Paul was drunk and driving at excessive speed.

The investigation dismissed the endless conspiracy theories sparked by the fatal accident.

Mr Paul had an alcohol level of around 1.74 grams per litre at the time of the crash - about twice the British drink-drive limit.

The black type S280 Mercedes was being driven through the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris at around 61 to 63mph - twice the speed limit for that section of road.

Lord Stevens said allegations that Diana was murdered were 'unfounded' and that he found nothing to justify further inquiries with members of the Royal Family.

A spokesman for Mr al Fayed yesterday said he had no comment to make, but said he will be 'interested in seeing the outcome', adding that he trusts the Met will investigate the information 'with vigour'.
The Ministry of Defence said tonight it was not commenting on the matter.

....

The jury in the 2008 inquest concluded its verdict as 'unlawful killing, grossly negligent
driving of the following vehicles and of the Mercedes', the Met said

Timeline of Events Leading to the Diana Report

Princess Diana and Dodi al Fayed wait at the rear service exit of the Ritz Hotel in Paris on August 31, 1997

August 31, 1997 - Diana, Dodi and their chauffeur Henri Paul die when their S280 Mercedes crashes in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris after leaving the Ritz Hotel. Bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones is badly injured but survives. A number of photographers and a press motorcyclist are held for questioning.

September 1, 1997 - Analysis of blood samples indicate Paul was drunk.

September 2, 1997 - French prosecutors open an official inquiry headed by Judge Herve Stephan. And Dodi's father Mohamed al Fayed files a civil action in Paris and asks for a widening of the inquiry to include possible charges of violation of privacy against Dodi and Diana.

September 6, 1997 - Diana's funeral is held at Westminster Abbey, watched by millions around the world. Her son Princes William and Harry walk through the streets behind her coffin.

September 17, 1997 - Examination of debris found at the scene of the crash suggests the involvement of a white Fiat Uno. Identity checks are carried out on 40,000 Fiat Uno owners, but it is never found.

March 1998 - Mr al Fayed tells investigators he believes the crash was part of a plot to kill Diana by MI6

July 1999 - A French appeals court rejects a request by Mr al Fayed for further official inquiries into the crash.

September 1999 - Judge Herve Stephan’s reports finds that that Diana and Dodi were killed because their chauffeur, Henri Paul, was driving at high speed under the influence of drink and anti-depressant drugs. The photographers and press motorcyclist are formally cleared of manslaughter charges. Mr al Fayed announces he will appeal.

July 2000 - Mr al Fayed loses his High Court battle for joint, or concurrent, inquests into the deaths of Diana and Dodi.

In July 1999 a French appeals court rejected a request by Mohammed al Fayed for further inquiries into the crash

November 2001 - Mr al Fayed loses a £100,000 claim for damages over what he had called a ‘flawed’ part of the inquiry into Diana's death.

October 2003 - Three photographers who snapped pictures of Diana and Dodi at the crash scene go on trial in Paris accused of invading the couple's privacy. They are cleared a month later.

November 2003 - A privacy violation civil case, brought by Mr Fayed against three of the photographers who were following the Princess's car on the night she died,

Lord Stevens released his report after three years of investigation -
it concludes the couple and their chauffeur died in a traffic accident in a Paris underpass in August 1997

January 6, 2004 – Separate inquests into Diana and Dodi’s deaths are finally opened and adjourned.

On the same day, the Daily Mirror publishes a letter from Diana to her butler Paul Burrell 10 months before her death in which she claimed her former husband, the Prince of Wales, was plotting to kill her in a crash.

January 7, 2004 - Former royal coroner John Burton, who was present at the princess's autopsy, says she was not pregnant when she died. The Scotland Yard inquiry - codenamed Operation Paget - is stepped up.

July 6, 2004 - The Diana memorial fountain opens in Hyde Park.

August 2004 -
A French court orders a new investigation into the alleged falsification of alcohol and drug tests on Henri Paul, his parents have always rejected the original post-mortem examination's findings.

May 2005 - Detectives are said to have quizzed Britain's two most senior spy chiefs John Scarlett, the head of MI6, and Eliza Manningham-Buller, the MI5 director general.

July 2005 - The wrecked Mercedes is brought to Britain for forensic examination..

December 2005 - The Prince of Wales is finally questioned by Lord Stevens, signalling that the investigation is drawing to a close.
He is said to have been asked if he ever plotted to assassinate the Princess.

July 2006 - Royal coroner Michael Burgess quits the inquests, blaming a ‘heavy and constant’ workload. He is later replaced by Britain’s top female judge Lady Butler- Sloss

December 2006 - Lord Stevens finally releases his report after three years of investigation – it finds that there was no conspiracy to murder the Princess lover and no cover-up afterwards. Instead it concludes that the couple and their chauffeur Henri Paul died in a simple traffic accident in a Paris underpass in August 1997.

Lord Stevens stressed that if the Princess had been wearing a seatbelt she might have survived the crash.

Update re: Princess Diana's Death NOT an Accident-She Knew She was in Danger >Her Ghost Appears

Mystery Tapes in which Diana Gives Advice to William and Kate 'are exactly like her', Confidante Reveals

  • Mystery tapes are said to echo Diana's feelings in 'great detail'
  • Businesswoman Lana Marks said she had similar talks with the Princess
  • Diana allegedly made the tapes as she feared for her own safety- she knew she was in danger
By , 29 September 2013

Close: Lana Marks, pictured with Princess Diana in 1996, above, says the content
of tapes are similar to sentiments Diana expressed before her death

Tapes allegedly made by Princess Diana for Prince William echo sentiments she expressed just months before her death, a close friend said yesterday.
Reports from America claim Diana made the recordings for William and his future wife because she feared for her life.

Yesterday, one of her closest confidantes said the content bore an uncanny resemblance to what she and the Princess had discussed about William.
Businesswoman Lana Marks, who designed handbags for the Princess, gasped when the tapes’ content was read to her, and said:

‘Oh my God, I know her choice of words, the way she would say things and this sounds exactly like her.
‘I knew Diana very well during the last 18 months of her life. Diana discussed with me in great detail what she wanted for William in terms of a wife, children – what she wanted for his future.

'When I hear the contents of the tape, they echo what she discussed with me in great detail. It is uncanny.’

The existence of the tapes was revealed by US magazine Globe. In them, she is said to urge her oldest son and his future wife:

‘Cherish your children for me. Let them know I’ll love them and watch over them.’

According to the magazine, she imagined William’s bride would be ‘beautiful, smart and independent’.

It reported the voice on the tape stated:

‘I know I’d adore you and we’d be fast friends. You’d have to be someone truly special. If you weren’t, you wouldn’t be William’s wife.’

Speaking directly to her daughter-in-law, Diana reportedly advised her to work at her marriage to survive the pressures of public life and warned her that being a future queen makes marriage harder.

Future: The tapes allegedly contain intimate details of Diana's hopes for William,
pictured as a baby above, whom she knew would one day be king

Record: Diana was said to want to document her feelings about the young Princes,
pictured above, in the months before her death as she became increasingly concerned for her safety

Los Angeles-based Mrs Marks added:

‘Kate is absolutely everything Diana wanted. She even said William’s wife would have dark hair.
‘Diana wanted someone down-to-earth for William, with a close family unit so he could enjoy a normal family life. She wanted a future queen of the people for the people.’

Last night Kensington Palace declined to comment.

Default re: Princess Diana's Death NOT an Accident-She Knew She was in Danger >Her Ghost Appears

SAS Man who Claims that Diana was Murdered 'Flees to Thailand in Fear for His Life'

  • Unidentified Soldier N has said SAS were involved in Princess's death
  • Comes after his claims that the crash was a 'hit' ordered by an elite unit
  • He claims soldiers shone a light into the eyes of her driver, leading to the fatal car crash in 1997

  • Police re-opened investigation into Diana's death in response
  • But now Soldier N has fled the country before he could be examined
  • Sources say he may have fled because of the 'pressure', and his life was in danger
29 September 2013

Probe: Police have re-opened an investigation into the death of Princess Diana (pictured in 1990) after new evidence from Soldier N - who has now fled the country

A Special Forces sniper who claims the SAS were involved in a plot to kill Princess Diana has reportedly fled to Thailand in fear of his life.

The anonymous soldier is said to be laying low in south-east Asia as police investigators probe claims that members of the Army helped cause the car crash that killed Diana in 1997.

It has been claimed that special forces agents shined a light into the eyes of Diana's driver, which led to him losing control of the car and hitting a pillar in a tunnel in Paris.

The sniper - known only as Soldier N - made the claims to police investigators, leading to the inquiry into the Princess's death being reopened.
But he fled the country before Scotland Yard could properly examine the evidence, which was handed over by the Royal Military Police, reported the Daily Star.

Previous reports had placed Soldier N in an ex-part community in Dubai, but an anonymous military source had claimed it would be a hostile - and expensive - environment for him.

The source said:

Quote:
'He will not be welcome in the Middle East as there is a large community of former SAS personnel who use Dubai and other locations as a base for their work.
Quote:
'It is also expensive to live in the Gulf states and I don’t believe that he has the resources to sustain a new life there.'
'Those in the regiment will not be happy with his comments about Princess Diana.'

Carnage: Princess Diana died after the Mercedes she was travelling in (pictured) crashed in a tunnel in Paris

Thailand is said to be a popular destination for runaways due to its lenient police system and low cost of living.

As Soldier N has a criminal record for handling firearms, there are many countries he would not be allowed to enter.

Former Harrods owner Mohamed Al-Fayed, 84, whose son Dodi was in the car with Diana and also died, has repeatedly called for further investigation of the crash, and is said to be angry that Soldier N was not prevented from leaving the country.

More Info From His wife:

The SAS informant allegedly told his wife that a member of an elite unit shone a light in her chauffeur's face causing him to crash in August 1997.

The wife claimed her husband had told her the 'hit' had been instructed by someone in the royal inner circle because they did not approve of Diana's relationship with Fayed.

Soldier N was due to meet Scotland Yard's DCI Philip Easton but is understood to have left the country last Monday or Tuesday.

A police source close to the investigation told The Sunday People:
Quote:

'Soldier N is key to this inquiry as he is the person who made the claims about Diana's murder.
'Pressure on him has been mounting since the original story broke last month. He was aware police wanted to interview him.'
Scotland Yard reportedly decided to review the case, 16 years after Diana's death in a Paris underpass, after interviewing the woman who insists her former husband's claims were true.

She alleged a **white car and motorbike** were involved in the plot which enlisted the services of one of Soldier N's former SAS colleagues.

NB: **white car** - There were white paint markings found on Diana's Mercedes after the accident - that vehicle has never been traced!

When asked by officers why she hadn't reported her husband's theory earlier the woman said she had been sworn to secrecy.

In a dramatic twist, the investigation could also unearth recordings of the crash after security experts revealed Diana's phone was bugged.

Cool Camillas' Secret Jet Trips During Affair With Charles When He Was Married to Diana

Separate Lives and a Rather Saucy Secret: An Intimate Portrait of their Marriage Reveals How Camilla Has Kept Prince Charles Happy

  • Charles and Camilla spend much of their time apart and live separately
  • But the couple are still 'fantastic' together after almost 10 years of marriage
  • Prince of Wales still plans on making Camilla Queen when he takes throne
  • Camilla has always known how to handle, how to mollify and excite Charles
  • She often travels ahead of Charles to 'acclimatise' to royal tour stresses
  • Prince feels guilty for bringing Diana into royal world she could not handle
Daily Mail UK, 2 Feb 2015

The tour of Canada was over and the plane taxied to a halt at RAF Brize Norton to disgorge its royal passengers. Two cars were waiting on the tarmac. The Prince of Wales stepped into his Aston Martin and drove off accompanied by his detective towards Highgrove, his Gloucestershire home 30 miles away. His wife was helped into her car by a chauffeur, and driven to a different address.

No, this was not Charles and Princess Diana at the peak of their stony relationship, but Charles and Camilla. The Duchess of Cornwall was heading for Ray Mill House in Wiltshire, which is still her home even though she and the Prince are approaching their tenth wedding anniversary in April.

Indeed, as one of her friends observes tartly: ‘Camilla seems to spend less time in Highgrove these days than she did when Charles was still married to Princess Diana.’

Those were the days when, as Diana was disappearing down the country lane with the young William and Harry on a Sunday afternoon on their way back to Kensington Palace, Camilla would just be arriving.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall spend much of their time apart because it makes their marriage work

Charles and Diana spent most of their time apart because, ultimately, they couldn’t bear to be in each other’s company. Charles and Camilla do so — almost as though she were still his mistress — because it makes their marriage work.

She likes to have her five grandchildren at Ray Mill, running noisily around the house and the garden. He likes the peace of Highgrove 17 miles away, where he can bury his head in his books and papers, and, of course, work in his garden and have space to himself.

They live very separate lives. ‘But when they are together they are fantastic,’ says a close friend. ‘Camilla knows how to soothe him, when not to be there, when to leave him to his thoughts, when to be jolly, when to be his confidante, and when to be his lover. She is quite brilliant at being every kind of woman to him at the appropriate time.

‘Poor Diana could never do this for him. I saw how she struggled to make it work, but it never did. But then, she was so young, while Camilla — well, she’s virtually made a lifelong study of the Prince of Wales. No one knows him better than she does.’

The raw Camilla humour and blue jokes that first attracted him to her at the start of their epic love affair when both were young, more than 40 years ago, still make him giggle. Friends describe them as sharing a ‘ripe and lavatorial’ sense of humour. (So was Diana’s, incidentally.)

Who can be surprised, then, that Prince Charles is more dedicated than ever to making the former Mrs Parker Bowles his Queen — despite the fact that many of his future subjects still despise what she did to Diana?

Camilla is still remembered as 'The Queen of Tarts'

The Queen, who once called Camilla a 'wicked woman', has come to terms with the Duchess of Cornwall's presence in the Royal Household

So smooth has been Camilla’s transition from ‘wicked woman’, in the words of the Queen, to the Duchess of Cornwall, that for many the role she will assume at King Charles’s side has ceased to be an issue.
A YouGov poll last summer found that some of the British people would not object — a result that surprised many.

Originally, back in the Seventies when the Queen learned that her son was sleeping with the wife of a brother officer in the Brigade of Guards, she regarded Camilla as an adulteress who had led her bachelor son astray.
Instructions were issued that Mrs Parker Bowles was never to be on the guest list for any formal event at which the Queen was to be present.

Fast forward to 2005 and the Queen was giving the reception at Windsor Castle for their marriage. Her pragmatic private view had become: ‘Since Camilla isn’t going anywhere she may as well be welcomed.’
As for the special nugget of Welsh gold kept for royal wedding rings, the Queen is said to have drily observed: ‘There is very little of it left — there won’t be enough for a third wedding.’

By the time the Queen reached her Diamond Jubilee in 2012, Camilla had established herself so completely that, with Philip in hospital, the Monarch chose the former adulteress to share the affection of the public by sitting next to her on the final carriage drive.

Officially, at least, the soothing plan remains in place for Camilla merely to become his Princess Consort, so that she does not take the title that would have been Diana’s.

Privately, however, the Prince is increasingly confident that when the time comes his wife will take her ‘rightful’ place as a crowned Queen by his side.

Camilla knows how to handle, mollify and excite Prince Charles - even if it was through sex 'for a long time', according to one of her friends

Why is he so sure? ‘It’s because he believes that when faced with a fait accompli, the British nation will always look to its strong tradition of forgiveness and fair play,’ says one close figure.

How loud the protests will be from Diana’s supporters who still blame Camilla for destroying what they believe might have evolved into a successful marriage, despite everything, probably depends on how long the Queen lives.

The fact is, Camilla has always known how to handle, how to mollify and excite, the Prince of Wales. ‘For a long time it was sex,’ snorts one of her lady friends. ‘Camilla would tell Charles what to do in bed. And he liked that.’

But there are so many more aces in Camilla’s hand. Unlike Diana, who was barely out of her teens and totally unprepared for a royal life in the public eye, Mrs Parker Bowles had spent much of her life around the royals, even though she did not become a royal herself until late in life.

On April 9, 2005, when she and Charles were married at Windsor Guildhall, she was a 57-year-old divorcee with grown-up children, Tom and Laura, now themselves both married.

Far from being challenged by this late arrival into the family fold, it has offered her the ultimate comfort of being a royal wife who does not have to compete for attention. Approaching her own Tin wedding anniversary, the Duchess of Cornwall ‘couldn’t be happier’ to see stepdaughter-in-law Kate, pregnant with baby No 2, taking the limelight.

With Charles, it is very different. Even now, when he is well into pensionable age, he remains sensitive to the attention of the public having shifted largely away from him to focus on the younger generation of William and Kate and, of course, Prince Harry.

‘We have never forgotten an early visit to Canada in 1983 with Diana when, as the car door was opened and he stepped out, he could for the first time hear groans from the waiting crowd that they were on the “wrong” side,’ says a former royal aide.

‘The cheers came from the other side where Diana was. To him it made no sense. He, after all, was the Prince of Wales.’

Prince Charles remains sensitive to the public focus shifting to the younger generation, as he experienced to his distaste on a visit to Canada with Princess Diana in 1983

Many years have passed, but he still can’t accept being downgraded by the public in this way.

‘It makes him quite gloomy at times,’ says a country friend of the Duchess. ‘Camilla doesn’t hog the limelight as Diana did, thank goodness, but everyone knows he’s desperate for people to show their approval. Camilla’s so good at cheering him up when he’s like that. But even she can get fed up with his moods.’

But the fact is, she’s not always there to do so and there are times, we understand, when she is discreetly telephoned by one of the Prince’s aides and comes hurrying over to Highgrove to lift his spirits.

Sometimes she and Charles don’t see each other for days. ‘You must remember they are two people who have spent most of their adult lives apart,’ says a friend of the duchess.
‘They don’t feel a need to be in each other’s pockets all the time. Camilla’s not a needy person in herself, and that is why it works so much better for Charles than in his previous marriage.’

Diana’s supporters are hardly surprised to hear one of Camilla’s friends speak so dismissively of Charles’s first marriage. To them, Camilla will always remain the unforgiven 'Queen of Tarts'.

So how would the Duchess of Cornwall react if she found evidence that Charles was having an affair now? After all, Camilla is aware that she was the subject of a heated exchange between Charles and Diana which ended with the Prince declaring hotly: ‘Do you seriously expect me to be the first Prince of Wales in history not to have a mistress?’

That is exactly what Diana did expect.

And Camilla? Surely, approaching her 68th birthday in July, she is far too worldly and sophisticated to worry about such a thing. Not so. According to one of her closest friends: ‘She would go bonkers. After what they’ve been through she expects him to be loyal — in every way.’

Some will scoff at the notion that what Camilla has ‘been through’ can even be mentioned in the same breath as Diana. As Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla is indulged in ways that were never offered to Princess Diana.
Even on their official trips abroad, Camilla has created a new custom of going ahead of Charles and spending up to a week ‘acclimatising’ to set herself up for the stresses of the formalities that lie ahead.

And in practice this means being pampered in a five-star hotel, just as she was before the couple’s recent trip to Mexico. Camilla was booked into the luxury Carlisle Bay hotel in Antigua for several days before flying to meet Charles at the start of the tour.

Camilla has created a new custom of going ahead of Charles and spending up to a week ‘acclimatising’ to her environment before the royal entourage arrives

‘If that’s what she wants to do, then it’s OK by him,’ says a palace lady-in-waiting.
‘He got it wrong the first time and got it right the second time. It really is as simple as that.’
In the view of a long-standing courtier: ‘When Diana died, his instinctive reaction was to feel a terrible guilt because of everything that had led to that dreadful moment.
‘But he no longer feels guilt for her death because he has come to accept that had nothing to do with where she was or who she was with at the time. Where he does still feel guilty, of course, is that it was him who brought Diana into the royal world and a life she couldn’t handle.’

In palace terms, despite the crises that imperilled the monarchy during the embattled Nineties when Charles and Diana’s differences were at their worst, the Prince of Wales’s second marriage has introduced a new era of relative calm.
The key reason for this is the paradox of Camilla herself.

‘The Prince of Wales has been preparing to be King since he was about five,’ says one of their close friends. ‘I am sure he will make a very good king and one of the main reasons will be that Camilla will be there to support him every step.
‘You could even think that the role she will play is one that she has been preparing for all her life — well, most of it. Married to her, he’s a different man from the one who was married to Diana.
‘Everyone knows they weren’t suited. He was warned, but he didn’t listen.’

In a rare public comment about his succession when he was asked if he was impatient to be King, Charles replied:

‘Impatient — me? What a thing to suggest. Yes, of course I am...’

At the same time, their friends know better than to broach the subject. One says: ‘He doesn’t like it because, as he rightly says: “This is in fact talking about the death of my mother and for me that will be the very first consideration.” ’

Another change in Charles is that he no longer questions ‘whatever "in love" means’. That infamous philosophical observation, which he made during his and Diana’s first post-engagement television interview in early 1981, was a slap in the face for the girl who would be barely 20 when they married. It has haunted him ever since, though perhaps not quite as much as it haunted Diana.

‘He knows exactly what love means now,’ says one of Camilla’s friends.
‘He knows that everything she does for him, from letting him be himself to listening to what he thinks, from consoling him to making him laugh, is because she loves him. He worships her for it.’

Daily Mail UK, 12 April 2015

This week ushered in the low-key tenth anniversary of the Prince of Wales’s second marriage to his divorced mistress Camilla Parker Bowles (above)

This week ushered in the low-key tenth anniversary of the Prince of Wales’s second marriage to his divorced mistress Camilla Parker Bowles, who elected to call herself Duchess of Cornwall rather than Princess of Wales, the title held by Charles’s hugely popular and late lamented first wife, Diana.

The heir to the throne’s second union, eight years after Diana’s death at the age of 36 in a car accident in Paris, proved deeply controversial at the time.

On the day of the ceremony, feelings were running high, and Camilla had the misfortune to become the first royal bride to be booed in the streets since Henry VIII elevated his mistress, Anne Boleyn, to the Queen Consort’s throne in 1533.

Women especially remembered Diana’s caustic comment in her fateful BBC TV Panorama interview in 1995 —

Quote:
‘Well there were three of us in this marriage so it was a bit crowded’ — and found it impossible to forgive Charles’s mistress for the damage they judged her to have caused.
Antipathy to Camilla was still in evidence two years later when Clarence House, in one of the most preposterous misjudgments of Charles’s advisers, announced that Camilla was to attend the memorial service to Diana, held at the Guards Chapel in London on the tenth anniversary of her death.

Outraged public objections instantly erupted to the effect that her presence would be grossly inappropriate. Camilla was forced into a humiliating public climb-down and issued a statement reversing her decision to attend.

We are now eight years further on, and time, and increasing public apathy, has inevitably blunted some of the more extreme emotions that existed in the wake of Diana’s untimely death.
Commentators have suggested that Camilla has now ‘won over’ a sceptical and hostile nation, and there is no doubt that many more of the public have come round to the idea of her as a future Queen than the meagre seven per cent who were prepared to entertain the notion a decade ago.

Yet, if people have gradually grown accustomed to the presence of Camilla in public life, and even to her strange taste for monumental millinery, there are still countless numbers who have reservations — and not all of them are necessarily Diana diehards.

Camilla and Charles are pictured with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh at The Queens Banquet for the Commonwealths Heads of Government in Uganda in 2007

Some of the online comments following newspaper articles this week on the 10th anniversary of her marriage to Charles were extraordinarily vitriolic.

Quote:
‘I can’t stand the sight of her,’ fumed one reader, while another lambasted her as ‘the face that cracked 1,000 mirrors’.
A third refused to countenance the idea of Queen Camilla: ‘Queen Elizabeth is still very much alive, very active, and for everyone’s sake long may she live.’

Today’s ComRes poll for the Mail shows more than half of us — 55 per cent — are still opposed to Camilla becoming Queen, with just 32 per cent accepting that she should have the title, and the rest undecided.
Interestingly, 55 per cent of those polled believe Diana would have made a better Queen, and only 16 per cent opted for Camilla.

These intriguing figures reveal not only that a deeply felt antipathy towards Charles’s second wife still exists, but they also highlight the lasting appeal to the public — if not the Establishment — of Diana.

Of course, all fame is ephemeral and fades with time, and 18 years after her tragic demise in that Paris underpass, the once-global legend of Diana, Princess of Wales has inevitably diminished.

Women especially remembered Diana’s caustic comment in her fateful BBC TV Panorama interview in 1995 — ‘Well there were three of us in this marriage so it was a bit crowded’ — and found it impossible to forgive Charles’s mistress for the damage they judged her to have caused

When she was present on this Earth, whether as Queen-to-be and the world’s most beautiful fashion icon, or as an isolated and embattled ex-wife creating havoc for the Royal Family by some spectacular errors of judgment, Diana was an enduring and irresistible source of fascination to millions everywhere.

Quote:
Then, with shocking suddenness, she was gone, and the fall-out from her passing was seismic, plunging the British monarchy into the greatest crisis it had faced since the abdication of Edward VIII.

For a time, the Diana legend mushroomed through the extraordinary worldwide reaction to her death, to her funeral, and to years of conspiracy theories about the cause of the crash that killed her, and whether it was really an accident or murder. The Diana Princess Of Wales Memorial Fund, which opened after her death with money that poured in from all over the world, raised an astonishing £138 million, all of it used to improve the lives of the most disadvantaged people in the UK and in other countries.

But after years of disastrous mismanagement by Establishment worthies, the Fund closed down as an operational entity at the end of 2012 and, the following March, Diana’s two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, took over its legal ownership.

One of Diana’s friends and a former trustee of the Fund, Vivienne Parry, said:

‘The view from politicians, the Royal Family and the Spencers was that the quicker Diana was forgotten, the better.’

The Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in London’s Hyde Park, opened by the Queen in July, 2004, quickly deteriorated into a bedraggled and unsightly mess.

In the vivid description of the Mail’s Amanda Platell, it ‘looks like an industrial storm drain’. She recounted how a group of young Japanese tourists stopped her in Hyde Park to ask where the memorial to Diana was located, and were astonished to be told that they had just passed it without recognising it.
They appeared ‘shocked at the lack of respect’, she recalled, ‘and that our “famous Princess” should be honoured in such a way. Or rather, dishonoured’.

The few surviving memorials to Diana are now in a bad state of repair.
The Flame Of Liberty at the Pont de L’Alma in Paris, commemorating the scene of the accident in which she died, is now covered in scratches and the wall behind it is frequently daubed with graffiti.
Even her grave, on a tiny wooded island in the Oval Lake at Althorp, the Northamptonshire ancestral home of her Spencer family, was described by a recent visitor as looking ‘tatty’, with its memorial covered in moss, and the water surrounding it full of algae.

Quote:
Yet, if people have gradually grown accustomed to the presence of Camilla in public life, and even to her strange taste for monumental millinery, there are still countless numbers who have reservations

For a long time, the best-known memorial to Diana was the hideously tasteless display erected inside the London store Harrods by Mohamed Al Fayed in 1998, consisting of photographs of Diana with his son Dodi (who also died in the Paris crash) behind a pyramid-shaped structure that held a wine glass smudged with Diana’s lipstick from their last dinner together at the Ritz in Paris, as well as an engagement ring alleged to have been bought by Dodi on the day before they died.

A second memorial erected in Harrods by Al Fayed in 2005, entitled Innocent Victims, showed Diana and Dodi dancing together beneath the wings of an albatross. Both memorials remain in place despite rumours that the new Qatari owners of Harrods would remove them.

Evidence of the lack of respect for Diana’s brief life came in 2013 with the catastrophic failure of the movie, Diana, in which actress Naomi Watts played the Princess in a screenplay that focused on Diana’s affair with the handsome Pakistani heart surgeon, Hasnat Khan.
The film, dismissed as ‘car crash cinema’ by one critic, and by another as like ‘a two-hour Spitting Image sketch scripted by Jeffrey Archer’, bombed in the U.S., taking the derisory sum of £40,000 from initial screenings in 38 American cinemas. America’s long love affair with Diana appeared to be over.

And so the People’s Princess, in Tony Blair’s memorable description, became the forgotten Princess.
It seems that she has been deliberately written out of the script.

As the PR agent Mark Borkowski observed, the Royal Firm has sidelined Diana as part of a slick rebranding exercise.

‘The emphasis is on the young Royals,’ he said. ‘Diana has been quietly airbrushed out.’

Some of the online comments following newspaper articles this week on the 10th anniversary of her marriage to Charles were extraordinarily vitriolic. Above, she is pictured in Adelaide in 2012

The Firm wants us to remember not Diana, but other Royals. A £2 million, 9ft 6in statue of the Queen Mother — the personal inspiration of Prince Charles — now dominates the Mall.

But Diana — the Queen who never was, except, as she once observed, ‘in people’s hearts’ — has no statue, no plaque and no dignified memorial to mark her ground-breaking achievement in transforming the face of the British monarchy by modernising and humanising the House of Windsor through her work with Aids sufferers, with the homeless, the vulnerable and with the victims of landmines.

If she had been alive today, Diana would have been characteristically involved in countless good causes. She would have been immensely proud of the inspirational work of her younger son, Prince Harry, in spearheading the hugely successful Invictus Games, a Paralympic-style event for injured and disabled ex-service personnel.

This showed the often much-criticised ‘playboy prince’ as a man with vision, compassion, flair and drive, every inch his mother’s son.
The one aspect of Diana’s life that has never been derided is her warmth and care as a mother.

Today’s ComRes poll for the Mail shows more than half of us — 55 per cent — are still opposed to Camilla becoming Queen. Above, Camilla is pictured in a pub in 2014

In an address he wrote himself for her memorial service on the tenth anniversary of her death, Harry called her ‘the best mother in the world... When she was alive we completely took for granted her unrivalled love of life, laughter, fun and folly.

Quote:
‘She was our guardian, friend and protector. She never once allowed her unfaltering love for us to go unspoken or undemonstrated.’
Shortly before that service, on what would have been their mother’s 46th birthday, Harry and William organised and hosted the Concert For Diana at Wembley Stadium, with many of the world’s most famous entertainers performing, including Elton John, Rod Stewart, Tom Jones, Will Young, Donny Osmond and Jason Donovan. All proceeds went to charity.

When Harry came to set up his Aids charity for sick and vulnerable children in Lesotho, he called it Sentebale — meaning ‘forget me not’ — in memory of his mother.

Time has a curious way of correcting historical injustice. Diana, robbed of her rightful recognition by a vengeful Establishment, has the most secure of memorials in the hearts of her two loving sons

And William, at the time of his engagement to Catherine Middleton, referred significantly to ‘the mistakes of the past’ from which it was necessary to ‘learn lessons’.
Then he proceeded to touch the hearts of watching millions around the world by explaining that his decision to give Kate his late mother’s sapphire and diamond engagement ring was ‘my way of making sure that my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement and the fact that we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together’.

As the Queen turns 89 on April 21, and in September will break Victoria’s record as the longest-reigning British sovereign, the potential reign of the future Charles III becomes ever briefer.
When, at last, he does succeed to his mother’s throne, there is little doubt that his second wife will become Queen, and not Princess Consort, the sop originally fed to a gullible public by Charles’s advisers as a means of countering opposition to the marriage.

Quote:
Consequently, a future Archbishop of Canterbury will have to walk the ecclesiastical tightrope of crowning and anointing a Queen Consort who broke her own marriage vows and helped her present husband to break his.
If the Primate adheres to tradition, and utters the words used for the coronation of the Queen Mother, he will be obliged to say ‘that by the powerful and mild influence of her piety and virtue, she may adorn the high dignity which she hath obtained’.

Quote:
Time has a curious way of correcting historical injustice. Diana, robbed of her rightful recognition by a vengeful Establishment, has the most secure of memorials in the hearts of her two loving sons.
And when her eldest comes to the throne as King William V, I have no doubt that his mother’s legacy will at last be restored, and her true contribution to the British monarchy properly honoured.

Prince Charles' School hit by Claims of Child Sex Abuse Including Allegation a 12-year-old Girl was Raped by Teacher on Camping Trip

  • Former pupils of Gordonstoun school, where Prince Charles was once a pupil, have claimed they were victims of historic sexual abuse in the 1980s
  • A woman claims she was raped at the age of 12 while on a camping trip
  • Man alleges he was sexually abused as a boy after being given painkillers
  • Historic claims of sexual abuse are difficult to prosecute in Scotland because of the corroboration principle, requiring two forms of evidence
Daily Mail UK, 12 April 2015

It was described by the heir to the throne as 'Colditz in kilts', and has become as well known for its famous alumni as its notoriously strict regime.

Now Gordonstoun, the £32,00-a-year Scottish public school where the Queen's sons and children of Sean Connery and David Bowie were educated, has become embroiled in allegations of historical sex abuse.
Former pupils have spoken of a number of incidents at Aberlour House, the preparatory school that was part of Gordonstoun in Moray in Scotland. These included the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl and a boy who was molested by his teacher.

Former pupils of Gordonstoun in Scotland have claimed they were raped and abused by teachers there

But the perpetrators appear to have so far gone unpunished because of Scotland's 'corroboration principle' which means allegations have to be verified by two separate forms of evidence - making prosecutions for sexual assault and domestic abuse notoriously difficult.

Prince Charles reportedly hated his time at Gordonstoun, frequently being bullied because he was heir to the throne.

He was apparently put in a basket and left naked under a cold shower as part of an initiation ceremony at the age of just 13, and often wrote home to explain how he hardly got any sleep because he was often hit in the night.

Writer and novelist William Boyd, who was a pupil at the school at the same time as Prince Charles in the 1960s, likened it to 'penal servitude.'

Quote:
SCOTLAND'S UNIQUE LEGAL PRINCIPLE OF CORROBORATION

The principle of corroboration is a cornerstone of Scottish law, and requires two independent sources for every piece of evidence.
This can be from two witnesses or be supported by forensic or historic evidence.

For rape cases this means that there would need to be two forms of evidence to prove penetration had taken place, there was no consent, and the perpetrator understood there was no intent. This makes historical allegations particularly difficult to prosecute.
It is believed to discourage victims of sexual and domestic assault from coming forward because of the difficulty in proving crimes.

Scotland has one of the lowers rape conviction rates in Europe.
Figures released by the Crown Office of Scotland revealed around 60 per cent of domestic abuse complaints go no further.
Scotland also does not allow pre-recorded evidence to be taken, a measure which can encourage victims to come forward.

If the offences had taken place in England, not only would only one witness be needed but victims would also be able to sue for compensation in the civil courts.
In 2010 Lord Calloway was appointed to do a review of Scots Law and he suggested the principle of corroboration should be abolished. This has been supported by campaigners for victims of domestic violence and rape.

However abolishing the principle has been opposed by the legal establishment over fears it could make investigations less rigorous
An investigation has uncovered claims of sexual abuse including the rape of a 12-year-old at the school, renowned for its strict discipline.
The woman, known by the name 'Kate', had gone to the school on a scholarship and claims she was attacked by the male teacher during a camping trip.
The woman said the incident took place in 1990 when the teacher in charge of the trip to the Scottish Highlands said they were one tent short and she would have to share with him.
She then found herself being touched then raped by the teacher.

Quote:
'I didn't know what to do,' she said. 'I didn't do anything. I was terrified. I don't remember much but the pain, on my cervix...He wore a condom.
'What kind of man takes a packet of condoms on a school camping trip?'
After the incident Kate contemplated suicide as she struggled to tell anyone what had happened to her.
What followed was years of abuse by her peers only for 'Kate' to discover another pupil had also been abused by the teacher and, she believes, had been in a relationship with him.

In 2013 Kate attempted to bring him to justice by making a formal complaint to police, who investigated and arrested the teacher.
Police Scotland uncovered a number of witnesses - including the other girl who was regularly abused by the teacher.

However the case was dropped when it became clear this girl could not give evidence and Jane's case fell foul of the principle of corroboration.
She was bitterly disappointed and now in her 40s, and with her own children, she is still dealing with the rape.

Another former pupil at Aberlour claimed he was assaulted by Derek Jones, a teacher in charge of English and the school photography club.
The man claimed that in 1990, then in his final year at Aberlour before he was due to go to Gordonstoun, he was talking to Jones about a rugby injury. After Jones offered to give him some 'secret' but extra strong painkillers, the man claims the teacher fondled and then took naked photos of him.

He remembered trying to struggle against the teacher, while under the effect of the painkillers.

John, then 12, tried to confront Jones with a friend but the teacher refused to give up his camera film. When he told his parents they went to Gordonstoun officials, who investigated the incident and referred it to Police Scotland.

Jones was sacked and John's parents were encouraged not to prosecute the teacher and received a promise from Gordonstoun that he would never teach anywhere again.

In 2014 John, now 37, decided to go to the police about the assault only to find that Jones had been able to teach again in Essex and Kenya - despite assurances from Gordonstoun.
However he could not be brought to justice because he had died in a car crash in Kenya five years later.
Jones is one of a number of teachers involved in historic sexual abuse allegations at the school.

Gordonstoun was home to a number of royal pupils, including a young Prince Philip, pictured batting for the school in 1939 (top) and Prince Charles, who is seen returning to London from the summer term in 1963

Prince Edward (top) was head boy at Gordonstoun in 1982 while Prince Andrew was a pupil in 1978

In 2013 former pupils started a private Facebook group discussing things that happened at the school which are not publicised. Discussions included rapes of boys and girls and eventually attracted more than 100 pupils.

A Gordonstoun spokeswoman said the school was 'shocked' and 'saddened' when it first became aware of the allegations, initially finding out through Facebook. These were reported to police and the school is firmly committed to making sure children are happy, healthy and safe.

She said: 'Cases of historic abuse must be unimaginably distressing to the victims and their families and it is absolutely right that any allegation of abuse is thoroughly investigated. If any former student of either Gordonstoun or Aberlour House feels they were the victim of abuse we would be very concerned for them and would advise them to go to the police. We will continue to provide the police with our full support in any investigation.
We were extremely saddened to learn of the abuse allegedly suffered by the woman identified as “Kate”. We have given the investigating police full and unrestricted access to the limited archive records we hold for Aberlour House. We were surprised and disappointed that her case did not go to court and remain available to assist future investigations.'

In 1998 Kevin Lomas, a former teacher at Gordonstoun in the 1980s, was jailed for sexual offences against young girls at a tutoring school in Oxfordshire.
During his teaching years at Gordonstoun he had become known for his inappropriate behaviour.

The spokeswoman added that the school achieved a 'very good' rating for its child protection procedures at the latest inspection in January 2015.

Last year Gordonstoun maths teacher Samuel Henley admitted having child pornography on his computer. The 32-year-old was sacked from the school after images of naked boys as young as eight engaging in sexual acts were discovered on his computer.
One of the pictures was headlined 'sweet boys kissing' and included images of 10 to 12-year-old boys engaging in sexual activity. There were also videos on the computer of young teenage boys performing sex acts on one another.

None of the children involved are believed to have been students at the 600-pupil Scottish campus.

As well as Prince Charles, Gordonstoun boasts a number of famous alumni including Prince Phillip, Prince Andrew and Zara Phillips.
When Prince Charles was a pupil smoking was a caning offence, while drinking could result in expulsion.

Gordonstoun, pictured in 1962, was launched by Dr Kurt Hahn in 1934 and Aberloun was found in 1936

Quote:
THE SCHOOL WITH A HISTORY OF ROYAL ALUMNI AND STRICT RULES

Gordonstoun was founded in 1934 by Dr Kurt Hahn
Dr Hahn had fled Germany in 1933 and initially started a school with three pupils

The next year pupil numbers increased and he signed a lease with the Gordon-Cumming family for the Gordonstoun estate.
In 1936 Hahn founded Aberloun, the preparatory school for Gordonstoun to cater for children from the age of seven. The two sites merged in 2004.

In the 1970s children were subjected to freezing cold dormitories with no central heating and were often left shivering with windows left open.
Historically it was known for its cold showers and early morning runs, as well as punishments where pupils were forced to run around their houses. Challenging outdoor activities are still practised.

Today the school sits in 200 acres in Scotland and has primary and secondary facilities
It is one of the last remaining full boarding schools, and houses 600 male and female pupils

Prince Charles was a pupil at the school in the 1960s
Other royal alumni include Prince Edward, who was head boy in 1982, and Zara Phillips

Prince Andrew went to the school in the 1970s and became known for his hockey skills

Prince Philip also went to Gordonstoun in the 1930s.

Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter went to the school, along with the sons of Sean Connery and David Bowie.

Princess Diana's Death NOT an Accident say Witnesses Who Saw Mystery 'Dark Cars'

Robin and Jack Firestone said what they saw in the minutes following Diana's death in Paris suggests her death was premeditated

AP 6 Jun 2019

Two witnesses claim Princess Diana's death was not an accident and say two 'dark cars' at the scene were never traced.

Americans Robin and Jack Firestone said they saw the cars when they entered the Paris tunnel just minutes after the fatal crash that killed Diana, her love Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul.

The pair claim they repeatedly tried to tell police what they saw but their claims were so controversial that both French and British authorities never pursued them.

The Firestones were in the back of a taxi with their 11-year-old son returning from a night-time cruise on the River Seine when the saw the wrecked Mercedes S280 carrying the princess.

Robin, now 63, immediately noticed two “formal” cars stopped in front of Diana's.

“It stands out in my mind so vividly to this day,” Robin told the Express .

“I could not understand why they were there. They looked at odds with what had happened.

"I saw those darks cars, and they must have entered ahead of Diana’s."

Describing the cars as "not even black but dark" cars, he went added: "They were just awkwardly parked, and I don’t recall anyone being in them. The two cars had to be driving ahead of Diana’s car.

"They then *buried all reference to them, but they were there.”

The cars were also seen by British solicitor Gary Hunter, who felt one of the *mystery vehicles was “shielding” another which could have hit Diana’s Mercedes.

Property owners Robin and Jack didn't realise the victim had been Princess Diana until the next morning.

They immediately sought out a French police officer to report the mysterious dark vehicles they say they saw, but they claim the officer turned them away saying they had "enough witnesses".

Robin said: “We were *dumbfounded. One of the most famous women in the world is killed and they don’t want to speak to witnesses.”

Over the next few days, the Firestones repeatedly tried to give a statement to the police but allege they were repeatedly brushed off.

It was only after a media appearance that they were finally interviewed.

After long delays, investigators said they would amalgamate their statements.

But when an inquest into the princess's death was held, the couple failed to be called.

It was only when the High Court ruled the inquiry should be heard by a jury that the two managed to get in contact with the Fayed family, and through their legal representatives, were called in to testify.

“It was clear the French, and the English didn’t want to hear my *testimony, and you need to ask why," Robin said.

“I do not think Diana’s death was an accident, and the action of the authorities makes me believe that to this day more than ever.”

Jack agreed saying the "whole thing had been an establishment thing".

“I hope that one day, as William and Harry grow older that they want to take *responsibility to find out what really happened to their mother. If it was my mother I would *definitely want to know.

“I hope that some day they will find out the truth.”

Movies Princess Diana's Bodyguard Talks About What Happened Before She Died

Unlawful Killing 2011

British documentary film, directed by Keith Allen, about the deaths of Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi Fayed on 31 August 1997.

It argues that the British and French authorities covered up uncomfortable facts about the crash, accuses Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret of being 'gangsters in tiaras', and alleges that Prince Philip is a psychopath, who orchestrated the murder of Diana and Dodi.

It also alleges that Diana's life could have been saved had she been taken to hospital quickly and efficiently, and condemns the inquest into her death for failing to investigate why this action was not taken.

Princess Diana's Bodyguard and The Missing Four Minutes Before Her Death

The sole survivor of the crash that claimed Princess Diana's life attempted to reconstruct the final minutes before her death

Daily Mirror UK, 4 Sep 2019.

The night Princess Diana died on August 30, 1997 is one now etched into the collective consciousness of the British people.

The same cannot, unfortunately, be said for a man sat in front of Princess Diana during the fatal crash.

One of the last photos of the Princess of Wales shows a shine of her familiar blonde hair behind wide-eyed driver Henri Paul and Trevor Rees-Jones.

The former solider would, unlike Diana and Paul, survive the catastrophic crash that took place in the Pont d'Alma less than five minutes after the photo was taken.

Rees-Jones would go on to have drastic surgery for numerous broken bones, chest trauma and brain injury.

The fact he was the vehicle's sole survivor of the 100km smash ensured the final moments of Diana's life might not be lost for ever.

One of the final photos of Diana shows the princess behind Henri Paul and Trevor Rees-Jones. (Image: PA)

After serving in the parachute regiment, Rees-Jones did a tour of Northern Ireland before leaving the armed forced to work for billionaire Mohammed Al-Fayed.

In the summer of 1997 the relationship between the Egyptian owner of Harrods and the People's Princess blossomed, news.com.au reported.

One of the things Diana liked about holidaying with the Al-Fayeds in the south of France, some biographers have speculated, is the large private security team that travelled with them.

It was amongst this that the Princess found herself when she headed to the Ritz Hotel in Paris on August 30.

It was clear from the start that the stay would not be a relaxing one however, with a group of 30 paparazzi on the group's tail.

In a bid to lose the photographers Paul, the Ritz's deputy security head, suggested the two cars the group had been travelling that day leave from the front of the hotel.

Paul would drive the Princess and Dodi in one of the hotel's limos out the back.

“I wasn’t happy as it meant Dodi would be splitting the security officers, but I went along with it,” Rees-Jones would later tell an inquest into the Princess's death.

“Initially, I had been told that Dodi and Diana would travel without security and I said this would not happen, that I would travel in the vehicle with them.”

With cars full of paparazzi in hot pursuit, the journey came to an abrupt halt when the Mercedes S280 limo smashed into the tunnel's 13th pillar.

The smash would have a devastating impact on Rees-Jones who suffered severe brain and chest trauma, spent 10 days in a coma and broke every bone in his face.

The public clamoured to hear Trevor Rees-Jones' story after the crash (Image: Daily Mirror)

Surgeons had to use old photos of his face as a reconstruction guide, piecing it back together with 150 pieces of titanium.

“His face looked like it had been hit by a frying pan in a Tom and Jerry cartoon — smashed back and flattened," his mother Gill said after the operation.

When the wreckage of that night had been cleared away and Diana laid to rest in an emotionally charged public funeral, a renewed focus was turned to those closest to her when she died.

Pushed for details, Rees said the last thing he remembered of the night was climbing into the car at the Ritz.

That meant there was a “missing” four minutes from his memory.

In an interview three years after the crash Rees-Jones: “I’m the only person who can tell people for real, and I can’t remember.

"It will be so easy if I do remember. I can tell people and all this c**p will finish.”

A year after the smash Rees-Jones had stopped working for Al-Fayed, who believed the British security services were behind the crash.

The billionaire would accuse the veteran of betraying him and, according to Rees-Jones, put "intense" pressure on him to somehow dig up lost memories of the crash.

He would attempt to drudge up the harrowing memories again in 2008, when an inquest was held into Diana's death.

“I have a memory of stopping at traffic lights and seeing a motorcycle on the right hand side of the car," he told the court.

"I’m not sure about the other vehicles, but I can remember this motorcycle very clearly.

“My memory then is of total confusion. I don’t remember the pain but in my head there was a lot of confusion.

“I don’t remember if someone was holding me or attempting to give me treatment.

Default re: Meghan to be Secret Guest at Unveiling of Princess Diana Statue

Prince Harry and Meghan's Biography 'Finding Freedom' is a 'Story of a Couple Unafraid to Break Tradition'

The book, which has already drawn comparisons to Andrew Morton's damaging tell-all book on Princess Diana in the 1990s, promises to quash rumours and "reveal unknown details"

Daily Mirror UK, 4 MAY 2020

A new biography about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry promises the truth behind a couple who are "not afraid to break tradition".

The Sussexes are understood to have co-operated with authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, with the book - which has been given the title Finding Freedom - set to "reveal unknown details".

According to the promotional blurb, it will also be "dispelling the many rumours and misconceptions that plague the couple" in Britain and North America.

Mr Scobie is the royal editor-at-large for Harper's Bazaar, while Ms Durand is a royal contributor for ELLE.com and OprahMag.com, with their book said to have been written "with the participation of those closest to the couple".

The Daily Mail reports palace insiders believe the new publication will paint the couple in a flattering light and become something of a score-settling exercise..

"Finding Freedom is an honest, up-close, and disarming portrait of a confident, influential, and forward-thinking couple who are unafraid to break with tradition, determined to create a new path away from the spotlight, and dedicated to building a humanitarian legacy that will make a profound difference in the world," the description adds.

Harry, 35, and Meghan, 38, left Britain in March to start a new life away from the Royal Family with young son Archie.

The book had the provisional title Thoroughly Modern Royals: The Real World of Meghan and Harry before being changed.

Several booksellers, including Barnes & Noble, Amazon and Bookshop, have started providing a pre-order option to their clients.

Last month the Sussexes announced they were cutting all communications with four British tabloid newspapers, including the Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, and will refuse to co-operate with them.
  • Finding Freedom is due to be published in August.

Thumbs Up re: Meghan to be Secret Guest at Unveiling of Princess Diana Statue

Princes William and Harry Release Rare Joint Statement on Princess Dianas' Legacy

The new Princess Diana statue, commissioned by Prince William and Prince Harry, will be installed next year in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace on what would have been her 60 Birthday

Daily Mirror UK, 28 AUG 2020.

A statue of Princess Diana, commissioned by her sons Princes William and Harry, will be installed next year on what should have been her 60th birthday.

It will sit in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace, where Diana lived before she died and the Cambridge family's current home.

A new joint statement released today says the princes "hope that the statue will help those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on their mother's life and legacy."

It will be set in place on 1 July, 2021.

The statue was first announced in 2017 to mark the 20th anniversary of her death.

While the creation of the piece has progressed, the installation was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Diana's sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale joined Harry and William on a committee, along with three others, to pick a sculptor for the piece.

Announcing the new statue back in 2017, a joint statement from Harry and William said: “It has been 20 years since our mother’s death and the time is right to *recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world with a permanent statue.

“Our mother touched so many lives. We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy.”

The Queen is reportedly in favour of the statue, and a source previously told the Sunday People: “The Queen is aware of the plans and supports the wish of the Duke and Prince Harry to memorialise the life and work of their mother.”

Monday marks the 23rd anniversary of Diana's tragic death.

She was killed in a car crash in Paris when her sons were just 15 and 12.

Duke of Cambridge: The BBC Fuelled My Mothers’ Paranoia
Prince William launches scathing attack on BBC ‘lies’ over Bashir’s Diana interview

Diana’s sons say corporation bosses failed the Princess of Wales by covering up Martin Bashir’s ‘deceit’ after interview

Martin Bashir deployed deceitful methods in a breach of BBC rules to secure his interview with Diana, Princess of Wales.

BBC, 21 MAY 2021.

The Duke of Cambridge has said it brought him “indescribable sadness” that Martin Bashir’s BBC interview with Diana, Princess of Wales, had “contributed significantly to her fear, paranoia and isolation” in the final years of her life.

Prince William blamed the "failures" of BBC bosses for the harm done to his mother, after a landmark inquiry concluded that Bashir used "deceitful behaviour" in a "serious breach" of the broadcaster's guidelines to secure the 1995 Panorama interview with the princess.

The Dukes each issued a rare personal statement following publication of the report.

Prince William said the interview had destroyed his parents’ relationship and had "since hurt countless others".

He added: “It brings indescribable sadness to know that the BBC’s failures contributed significantly to her fear, paranoia and isolation that I remember from those final years with her.”

The Duke of Cambridge said the Princess had been failed “not just by a rogue reporter, but by leaders at the BBC who looked the other way rather than asking the tough questions”.

Bashir interview ‘should never be aired again’

While the Duke of Cambridge stopped short of directly linking the interview to his mother’s death, his uncle, Earl Spencer said he "draws a line" connecting his sister meeting Bashir and her death two years later.

In a video statement, the Duke added: “It is my firm view that this Panorama programme holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again.

“It effectively established a false narrative which, for over a quarter of a century, has been commercialised by the BBC and others.”

He said these failings “not only let my mother down, and my family down; they let the public down too.”

After a six-month inquiry, Lord Dyson, a former master of the Rolls, also accused the BBC of effectively covering up Bashir's wrong-doing.

The Duke of Sussex went further than his brother in a separate statement, and directly linked the interview to their mother’s death.

Prince Harry said: “The ripple effect of a culture of exploitation and unethical practices ultimately took her life. Our mother lost her life because of this, and nothing has changed.”

Prince Harry's statement in full: ‘Our mother died because of this’

I would like to thank Lord Dyson and his team for the report.

It is welcome that the BBC accepts Lord Dyson’s findings in full – which are extremely concerning – that BBC employees:

It is my view that the deceitful way the interview was obtained substantially influenced what my mother said. The interview was a major contribution to making my parents’ relationship worse and has since hurt countless others.

It brings indescribable sadness to know that the BBC’s failures contributed significantly to her fear, paranoia and isolation that I remember from those final
years with her. But what saddens me most, is that if the BBC had properly investigated the complaints and concerns first raised in 1995, my mother would have known that she had been deceived. She was failed not just by a rogue reporter, but by leaders at the BBC who looked the other way rather than asking the tough questions.

It is my firm view that this Panorama programme holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again. It effectively established a false narrative which, for over a quarter of a century, has been commercialised by the BBC and others.

This settled narrative now needs to be addressed by the BBC and anyone else who has written or intends to write about these events.

In an era of fake news, public service broadcasting and a free press have never been more important. These failings, identified by investigative journalists, not only let my mother down, and my family down; they let the public down too.

The BBC now faces further scrutiny.

BBC boss’s apology to the Queen over reporter’s ‘lurid’ claims

Tim Davie, the BBC’s director-general, has sent letters of apology to the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry, in an attempt to limit the damage caused by Bashir’s deceit.

“Martin Bashir employed lies and faked documents to gain access to the princess,” wrote Mr Davie. “We also accept he made a series of lurid and untrue claims about the Prince of Wales, members of his staff and other members of the Royal family and that Martin Bashir did so intending to play on the Princess’s fears in order to arouse her interest in him and without concern for the impact on those he maligned.”

Letters of apology were also sent to Earl Spencer and to Alan Waller, the Earl’s former head of security, whose bank statements were faked by Bashir.

Another was sent to Matt Wiessler, the freelance graphic artist, ordered to mock up the statements by Mr Bashir.

The BBC said it was returning a number of awards won by Panorama for the world exclusive interview in which Princess Diana told Bashir “there were three of us in this marriage so it was a bit crowded”, in reference to Prince Charles’s infidelity with Camilla Parker-Bowles.
Earl’s list of 38 allegations, smears and lies

In a Panorama investigation into the programme’s own failings 25 years ago, broadcast on Thursday, Earl Spencer said: "The irony is that I met Martin Bashir on the 31st of August 1995, because exactly two years later she died, and I do draw a line between the two events.”

He said that claims made by Bashir at his first meeting with Princess Diana just over a fortnight later had led her to doubt everybody around her who was “made untrustworthy”.
. Earl Spencer, The Princess of Wales's brother, supplied the inquiry with eight pages of notes which he made of a conversation between Bashir and Princess Diana
Earl Spencer, The Princess of Wales's brother, supplied the inquiry with eight pages of notes which he made of a conversation between Martin Bashir, pictured, and Princess Diana

Earl Spencer noted down 38 allegations, smears and lies told by Bashir to his sister and that she had “died two years later… without any form of real protection”.

Lord Dyson concluded that Bashir had shown Earl Spencer fake bank statements that “deceived and induced him to arrange a meeting with Princess Diana”.

Lord Dyson said this behaviour was a “serious breach” of BBC guidelines.

BBC bosses accused of cover-up

The retired judge accused senior BBC executives at the time, including Lord Hall, later promoted to director-general, of effectively presiding over a cover up by failing to investigate Bashir’s “deceitful behaviour” when questions began to emerge over his conduct in the weeks and months after the interview.

Lord Hall, the former BBC director general, with the Duke of Cambridge in 2018. Lord Hall apologised on Thursday, saying the BBC's original investigation into the Bashir interview fell short of what was required Credit: Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty Images

Lord Dyson said Bashir had "lied three times" in insisting he had never shown the faked bank statements linked to Waller and said he was not a "credible witness" to his inquiry.

Lord Dyson said that in 1996 when an internal investigation was launched by the BBC, Lord Hall was wrong to conclude Bashir was an “honest and honourable man… in the light of his serious and unexplained lies” over the mocking up of the Waller bank statements.

Lord Dyson concluded Bashir commissioned documents purporting to show payments into the bank account of Mr Waller and also Commander Patrick Jephson, Diana's private secretary, and Commander Richard Aylard, private secretary to the Prince of Wales.

But the former judge also said he believed Princess Diana “would probably have agreed to be interviewed by any experienced and reputable reporter in whom she had confidence even without the intervention of Mr Bashir”.

Bashir: I apologised then, and I do so again now

Bashir, who has resigned as the BBC’s religion editor on grounds of ill health, issued a statement on Thursday, the first time he has spoken since facing renewed allegations of wrongdoing six months ago on the 25th anniversary of the interview.

In his statement, he said: “This is the second time that I have willingly and fully co-operated with an investigation into events more than 25 years ago.

"I apologised then, and I do so again now, over the fact that I asked for bank statements to be mocked up. It was a stupid thing to do and was an action I deeply regret. But I absolutely stand-by the evidence I gave a quarter of a century ago, and again more recently.”

He insisted “that the bank statements had no bearing whatsoever on the personal choice by Princess Diana to take part in the interview” and pointed to the letter reproduced for the first time from Princess Diana in which she said she had "no regrets" about the interview and had never been shown any faked statements.

Mr Bashir added: “It is saddening that this single issue has been allowed to overshadow the Princess’s brave decision to tell her story, to courageously talk through the difficulties she faced, and, to help address the silence and stigma that surrounded mental health issues all those years ago.

"She led the way in addressing so many of these issues and that’s why I will always remain immensely proud of that interview.”

Bashir had denied much of the evidence given to the inquiry by Earl Spencer and insisted that he had been shown Mr Waller’s original bank statements, which he had then used as the basis for his mocked up statements showing false payments.

The Earl denied providing the original statements and Lord Dyson believed his version of events.

In a handwritten note, which was part of the evidence in the inquiry, the Princess said Bashir did not show her any documents or give her any information 'that I was not previously aware of'

In the handwritten note from Diana on Kensington Palace notepaper, which was part of the evidence in the inquiry, the Princess said Bashir did not show her any documents or give her any information "that I was not previously aware of".

She said she took part in the interview "without any undue pressure" and had "no regrets concerning the matter".

BBC review ‘fell well short’

Lord Hall, who was director of BBC news and current affairs in 1995, has expressed his regret. He said: "I have read Lord Dyson's report and I accept that our investigation 25 years ago into how Panorama secured the interview with Princess Diana fell well short of what was required.

"In hindsight, there were further steps we could and should have taken following complaints about Martin Bashir's conduct.

"I was wrong to give Martin Bashir the benefit of the doubt, basing that judgment as I did on what appeared to be deep remorse on his part.”

Deluge of legal claims could ensue

The BBC could now be facing a deluge of legal claims over the scandal, the original Panorama whistle-blower revealed.

Mark Killick, the producer who was sacked within 24 hours of alerting BBC bosses to the forged documents in 1996, said Mr Davie had taken an important first step in commissioning the report but the “generic apology” he had issued did not go far enough.

Mr Killick said “like many others” he was consulting lawyers and that several of his BBC colleagues, Earl Spencer, Patrick Jephson, Diana’s Private Secretary, Tiggy Legge-Bourke, William and Harry’s nanny, and other members of Palace staff had all suffered “colossal damage” as a result of the actions of Mr Bashir and the BBC.

“What the BBC did 25 years ago sent out a clear message – do not whistle blow,” Mr Killick told the Telegraph. “That culture of fear they engendered has echoed throughout the years and I believe prevented people speaking up in other BBC scandals.”

Mr Jephson, whose bank statements were faked, said: "After so many years it is a relief to know more of the truth behind events which had so many unhappy and even tragic consequences.

"I am grateful to Lord Spencer, Lord Dyson and the tenacious journalists who brought the story to light. I also acknowledge the BBC's full apology which I received from the director-general this afternoon."

On Thursday, Mr Wiessler said in a statement that “after a quarter of a century of cover-ups and smears, it's good to know the truth is finally out that I acted with integrity and responsibly from day one.

“By blowing the whistle on the deception, I suffered the fate of the fall guy.”

The graphic designer, who never worked for the BBC again, said that the broadcaster’s investigation after he raised the alarm “had a devastating effect” on his career and professional reputation.

He described the probe as “seriously flawed and a smokescreen to protect Bashir”.

Mr Wiessler added: “I hope those responsible for the cover-up will now do the right thing and apologise to me. Tim Davie's attempted apology is so bland as to be meaningless.

“So much damage has been done, not only to me but also to Princess Diana and her family. I would also like to thank the tenacious journalists whose dogged pursuit of the truth brought this to light."

Update Re: Meghan to be Secret Guest at Unveiling of Princess Diana Statue

Meghan Markle to be Secret Guest as Princess Diana Statue is Unveiled in London Duchess of Sussex Meghan is believed to be contemplating putting a pause to her maternity leave in June so that she can attend the unveiling of Princess Diana's statue alongside husband Harry

Daily Mirror UK, 16 JUN 2021

Meghan Markle is set to be a "secret guest" at the unveiling of Princess Diana's statue in London, it has been reported.

The Duchess of Sussex is believed to be contemplating putting a pause to her maternity leave in June so that she can attend the event.

Princes Harry and William have worked on the statue since 2017 in a bid to celebrate their mother for what would have been her 60th birthday.

It is believed that the Duke of Sussex is planning to attend the unveiling, but it has not yet been confirmed following the birth of his baby daughter Lilibet earlier this month.

However, a source has told Radar that Meghan "knows how hard it was to attend his grandfather’s funeral alone" and that she doesn't want that to happen again.

They continued to claim that Harry had been "given the cold shoulder by most of his relatives", with many refusing to converse with him.

The insider added: "Meghan and Harry know the event is going to be dominated by Prince William, Kate and their children. The Cambridges call Kensington Palace home and have been working feverishly to make the entire event is flawless.

"The day will not just be about honouring Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday, but also an opportunity for William to take ownership of his mother's legacy."

This comes after Prince Harry described his royal family life as "a mix between The Truman Show and being in a zoo" back in May on a podcast with Dax Shephard.

In March, Prince Harry and Meghan's explosive interview with Oprah saw him say that there was "a lot of hurt" between him and his father. His more recent Apple TV interview with the host was him accuse the royals of "total neglect" over his mental health.

He went on to say that his father Prince Charles caused him to "suffer" and didn't "make it right" for him following his mother's death in 1997.

Harry also spoke about Meghan's battles with mental health, saying she would cry into her pillow after 'smears' from The Firm, and said he experienced an "element of shame" when he opened up about his difficulties.

"As parents, as siblings, certainly from what I’ve learned, there’s an element of shame we feel because we’re like, 'How could we not have seen it?'," Prince Harry said.

Unhappy Princess Diana-Queen of Hearts' LAST Phone Call

Princess Dianas' LAST Phone Call

Princess Dianas' friend has talked about their last phone call before she was killed in a tragic crash in Paris.

Daily Mirror UK, 20 JUN 2021.

During her last call, Diana mentioned she was looking forward to seeing her boys (Image: Getty Images)

Richard Kay was told by police that he was the last person Diana called before her death in 1997.

The journalist spoke about details of the call as part of a new ITV documentary, Diana, which airs on 24 June at 9pm.

He said the Princess of Wales was looking forward to coming home so she could be reunited with her children, Prince William and Prince Harry.

Mr Kay recalled: "I spoke to her that last night. The police said that the last call she made was to me."

He said he felt Diana was "in quite a good place" and was looking to embrace a new chapter in her life.

Mr Kay continued: "She was desperate to try and make a fresh start and do something different, to explore a different kind of royalty.

"And she wanted to come back and see her boys."

The documentary celebrates Diana's life and traces her journey, both in front and away from the cameras, as she assumed the role of the People's Princess.

Producers are hoping that the landmark programme will be “the definitive story of the most famous woman in the world.”

Jo Clinton-Davis from ITV, said: “This year would have been Diana’s 60th birthday, and the intention with this landmark documentary is to offer the definitive account of her life, both in front of the cameras and behind the scenes.

“It is a difficult undertaking to shed new light on the most emotional, dramatic and pivotal elements of the life of Diana, when that light still burns brightly.

“But by delving deep into her relationships with friends, colleagues and staff, our aim is to provide a vivid portrayal of the woman who became known as the Queen of Hearts.”

Prince Harry and Prince William are also expected to come together in July to unveil a statue for their late mum, who died when they were just teenagers.

The statue will be unveiled at Kensington Palace's Sunken Garden, which was one of Diana's favourite spots.

A source said: “Harry has said he will do his utmost to be there. He wants to put ona united front with William and pay an appropriate tribute to their mother.”

Arrow Right re: Princess Diana PRINCESS DIANA Statue-Her 60th Birthday & DANCING WITH JOHN TRAVOLTA

Princess Diana Statue Unveiled at Kensington Palace - Harry and William Issue Rare Joint Statement About Mum

The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex have come to the poignant event this afternoon in which they will pay tribute to their mum at Kensington Palace on what would have been her 60th birthday

Reuters 1 JUN 2021

Princes Harry and William stood side by side at the unveiling of a statue in honour of their late mother Princess Diana.

Harry, who has been staying at Frogmore Cottage, arrived at Kensington Palace Gardens at roughly 1.40pm.

The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex are understood to have come to “an unspoken agreement” to put their feud behind them and make the day about their late mother.

The brothers were pictured standing shoulder to shoulder at the brief private ceremony.

Members of the Spencer family also attended today's unveiling, including her brother Earl Spencer and sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellows.

William and Harry have been wrangling over the final design with sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley since 2017, on the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death.

Both Princes last year said they wanted to recognise her “positive impact in the UK and around the world”.

The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex's mirrored body language showed their "deeper bonds of love" for one another, an expert has suggested.

As they entered the Kensington Palace garden to unveil the statue of their mother Diana, Princess of Wales, William and Harry strolled side by side and both walked with their left hands touching their stomachs.

Body language expert Judi James said of the brothers, whose rift has long been documented: "I think what was more important was that their body language was very mirrored as they arrived - a sort of subliminal bonding.

"The mirroring would very much show their deeper bonds of love for one another."

She suggested that Harry put in more effort to make William laugh, but that was typical of their previous appearances in the past.

"Harry was more energetic. I think he was maybe putting in a little more effort to make William laugh.

"But that's very much how their relationship always was in the good old days," she added.

A beautiful statue of Princess Diana, commissioned by her beloved sons William and Harry, now sits in pride of place in her former home, Kensington Palace.

The artwork, which was revealed today, shows the late royal standing with three children wearing a fashionable high-waisted skirt and statement belt.

The unveiling left many fans asking who the children in the statue are, and the sweet story behind their inclusion in the piece has now been explained.

Diana was depicted with children to stop her appearing isolated

The bronze statue depicts the princess surrounded by three children, which were included to stop her appearing isolated.

It is 1.25-times life size and was cast by Castle Fine Arts Foundry in the traditional "lost-wax" process, with a patina of a bluish green over black.

Her short cropped hair, style of dress and portrait are based on the final period of her life - following her split from the Prince of Wales.

The three children featured in the sculpture are a diverse group with Diana's image holding the hand of a girl, a boy standing behind the group, and the princess resting her other hand on the shoulder of a boy who appears to have short afro-style hair.

Sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley explained the children were not based on living individuals, adding: "I think we felt if the princess stood on her own in solitary fashion she might appear isolated.

"And one of the things that came across in talking to her friends and family was she was such a friendly and gregarious person, and she had a particular warmth for children. And in many ways it alludes to her humanitarian work and shows she was a great comfort."

Sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley spent four years completing the statue

Sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley spent four years completing the statue of Diana, working closely alongside William and Harry.

The brothers commissioned the monument in 2017 to mark the 20th anniversary of their mum's death.

Mr Rank-Broadley is a figurative sculptor whose professional career spans 35 years. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London from 1974 to 1976 and was awarded the Boise Scholarship to Italy in 1977.

Working out of his studio in Gloucestershire, he has created public commissions at the Armed Forces Memorial (AFM) and National Memorial Arboretum.

He is also the artist behind the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, which has been used on the coinage of the UK and Commonwealth since 1998. He also created the Gold Sovereign, a bullion coin showing a bust of the British monarch.

The statue includes a paving stone with a poem extract

Beneath the statue is a plinth bearing Diana's name and the date of the unveiling, while in front lies a paving stone engraved with an extract inspired by the poem "The Measure of A Man".

The excerpt reads as follows:

“These are the units to measure the worth
Of this woman as a woman regardless of birth.
Not what was her station?
But had she a heart?
How did she play her God-given part?”

As a palace statement notes, the same poem was used in a programme for the memorial service commemorating the 10th anniversary of Diana’s death in August 2007.

Movies Re: Camilla Queen of Tarts: Mistress Who Destroyed Princess Diana Queen of Hearts

Camilla: Duchess Of Cornwall - Biggest Scandal Before Prince Charles

Factinate / British Royal Documentary 27 Oct 2021

Princess Diana

Scandalous Facts About Camilla Parker Bowles, The Royal Mistress

Parker Bowles

The recent uproars in the Royal Family, like Prince Andrew’s scandal and Harry and Meghan’s shocking departure, are testing the British monarchy, but these scandals far from the family’s first dose of controversy. Back in the 1980s, Camilla Parker Bowles rocked the monarchy as Prince Charles’s “other woman” before the illicit couple finally wed 34 years after they first met. Here are 50 regally real facts about Camilla Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall.

1. Talk to the Hand

Tense relationships between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law are almost guaranteed, but Camilla Parker Bowles and Queen Elizabeth’s bad blood took things to the next level. The Queen once referred to Parker Bowles with a devastating insult: she called her “that wicked, wicked woman.” Talk about an awkward family dinner…

2. Getting High

Parker Bowles’s ticket into British high society came via her father, Major Bruce Shand, who held the official title of Vice Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex. Try finding that job description on Indeed.

3. Wannabe Royalty

Parker Bowles’s great-grandmother was Alice Keppel, who had a sordid connection to Prince Charles’s kingly ancestor. Keppel and Edward VII were secret lovers, and Parker Bowles loved to brag to her classmates at Queen’s Gate School that her family was “practically royalty” because of the notorious association.

Evidently, being a royal mistress ran in Camilla’s genes…

4. Curiouser and Curiouser

Parker Bowles says that she genuinely likes people, and that “other people’s lives are so much more interesting than one’s own.” She says her curiosity benefits her royal life because she likes to “(get) information out of people,” and “the stories that come out, (she) could write a book about.”

5. Green Acres

Parker Bowles grew up frolicking around a splendid estate, surrounded by just under six blissful acres of the English countryside. When she was a kid growing up on the Shand family’s estate, Parker Bowles’s dad would occasionally take his daughter fox hunting for kicks. Guess the bouncy castle wasn’t invented yet.

6. Secret Romps

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles carried out one of the most notorious affairs in British history. As such, the creative and nefarious methods they used to sneak around are now the stuff of legend. While both were married to other people, Charles would instruct his valet to disable his palace’s alarm system and ruffle the bed in Camilla’s official room. This way, she could sneak into Charles’ chambers…and everyone would think she slept in her own quarters. Sneaky, sneaky.

7. Just a Milla-second

When she reached full-time schooling age, Parker Bowles was enrolled in the very prestigious Queen’s Gate School in London’s South Kensington. The posh kids quickly nicknamed young Camilla as “Milla” and described her as a self-assured “tomboy” with a “boisterous sense of humor.”

8. Not The Prince We Need, But The One We Deserve

Prince Charles would often visit Camilla at her royal residence (provided her husband was away, of course) though he used some mysterious methods to sneak in and out. Camilla would get her staff to turn off all the lights as her lover drove in, and Charles would make sure to leave before the sun rose the next morning. These nighttime trysts earned Charles an eerie nickname: “The Prince of Darkness.”

9. Duty Bound

No wonder Parker Bowles adored the antics of her great-grandmother, Alice Keppel—it sounds like Parker Bowles inherited Keppel’s cheeky sense of humor. Keppel was known to describe her “duty” as a royal mistress with some choice words. The King’s energetic lover once said, “my job is to curtsy first, and then jump into bed!”

10. Focused on Fun

Lynn Redgrave, of Britain’s esteemed Redgrave acting family, remembers Parker Bowles from Queen’s Gate school, and she recently revealed her real opinion of Britain’s most famous mistress. According to Redgrave, Parker Bowles “wanted to have fun, but she also wanted to marry well because, in her mind, that would be the most fun of all.”

Well, it took a while, but Parker Bowles did it!

11. Oh How She Shines

A news outlet cattily described Parker Bowles as having a “lantern jaw” in her tomboy youth, but hey, not being outrageously beautiful came in handy. Other girls weren’t threatened by Camilla, and her humor, confidence, and ability to talk to everyone made her a shining favorite—especially with the boys. Lantern-jawed ladies, strut your stuff.

12. Devilishly Sweet 16

By the time she graduated at age 16, Parker Bowles was a skilled flirt with “sexy confidence over men,” according to classmates.

13. The Dark Horse Claps Back

Aristocratic young girls of Parker Bowles’s generation were tacitly obliged to bag wealthy husbands. Her friends quickly scored engagements—her flatmate, Virginia Carrington, even landed Parker Bowles’s uncle, a real estate tycoon. Apparently, someone snidely asked Parker Bowles why “she hadn’t been quite so fortunate.” Camilla had the perfect comeback. She confidently snapped, “I’m holding out for a king.”

14. Diamonds Are a Duchess’s Best Friend

Parker Bowles’s stunning engagement ring from Prince Charles features a one-of-a-kind, emerald cut, five-carat diamond solitaire surrounded by six diamond baguettes. The ring was handed down to Charles from his beloved grandmother, The Queen Mother. That ring was a long time coming, so it’s probably a good thing that Charles didn’t skimp.

15. Paging MI5

After Princess Diana and Prince Charles shocked the nation with their divorce, Parker Bowles decided that being Charles’ mistress wasn’t good enough. She wanted to be Queen. As the royal family strategized to figure out a way to make the public accept Parker Bowles into the monarchy, they came up with a codename for their efforts: “Operation PB” AKA “Operation Parker Bowles.”

Um, real sneaky.

16. Call Me Maybe

Parker Bowles holds so many official titles that ordinary folk may well be confused about what to call her. She’s Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duchess of Rothesay. But if you ask me, Camilla’s most colorful nickname came from her mortal enemy: Princess Diana. She called Parker Bowles “The Rottweiler.” Ouch.

17. Hold That Thought

Because Parker Bowles married Prince Charles, she’s legally entitled to be called the Princess of Wales. In a wise move, Parker Bowles declined that particular honor, which is forever associated with her rival, the late Princess Diana. Sometimes, true power is seen in the things we don’t do, instead of the things we fight for.

18. Must Love Dogs

While Queen Elizabeth II prefers purebred Corgi dogs, Parker Bowles has extended her love of canines to two Jack Russell terriers—and in a sweet gesture, both of her dogs are rescues. Her four-legged family members are named Beth and Bluebell. She adopted the pups from the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home after they were abandoned.

19. Five Year Itch

By 1986—five years and two sons into their marriage—the relationship between the Prince and Princess of Wales was irreparably damaged. Charles sought comfort from Parker Bowles, and they began the affair that would rock the monarchy forever.

20. Working It

Following her marriage to Prince Charles in 2005, Parker Bowles immediately leapt into action. She has assumed president or patron roles at over 90 charities. Because of her busy schedule, it’s estimated that the Duchess of Cornwall spends barely a third of her life at home. The rest of her time is spent as a working royal around the world.

21. The Health Guru

Beat it, nicotine gum. After developing a persistent cough and allergy symptoms, Parker Bowles finally kicked her three-decade-long cigarette habit under the guidance of Dr. Mosaraf Ali, an expert on integrated health and alternative healing (translation: total new age guru.) Parker Bowles and Prince Charles are known as Ali’s most loyal clients (translation: priceless free publicity.)

22. I Do, Pass the Tissues

A girl’s wedding should be the best day of her life, but on Camilla’s big day everything went wrong. On April 9, 2005, she woke up feeling so sick that she was almost immobile. She had come down with a wretched case of sinusitis and it was only when her sister Annabel threatened to wear Camilla’s wedding dress herself that Camilla forced herself to get out of bed and walk down the aisle.

23. Even Stevens

If you feel bad for Camilla’s ex-husband Andrew Parker Bowles, maybe check those worries at the door. When his wife was messing around with Prince Charles, Andrew was very busy sowing his seeds with multiple mistresses. It’s like they say: The couple who cheats together…gets an amicable split after decades of their unhappy marriage?

24. Her Greatest Tragedy

In 1994, Camilla Parker Bowles’ entire world changed. Her mother Rosalind tragically passed away due to osteoporosis, but that’s not even the worst part. Years later, Parker Bowles revealed the awful truth. She wrote, “Seeing someone you love die slowly, in agony, and knowing nothing about the disease that killed them is heartbreaking.”

Now Parker Bowles honors her late mother by acting as the President on the National Osteoporosis Society.

25. Go Plant It, Girl

Gardening is one of Parker Bowles’s favorite outdoor pursuits. She says she loves “to get [her] hands dirty.”

26. Gift of Gab

Parker Bowles says her parents taught her to speak in public. She remembers “boring dinner parties” at her parents’ palatial country estate, and how she was “dragged down to join them.” Her mother told her to talk “about your budgie or your pony…keep the conversation going!” That skill probably comes in handy a lot considering all the royal family’s thrilling dinner parties.

27. Protective Dad

In the early 1990s, Prince Charles’ marriage to Diana was already getting rocky. Sad and lonely, Charles looked for comfort in the arms of Camilla—and boy oh boy, her dad was not impressed. Papa Bowles Parker demanded to meet with Charles, where he laid down the law. Defying British repression, he accused his daughter’s secret boyfriend of “ruining” Camilla’s life.

By the end of their exchange, Charles was in tears.

28. Laughter is the Best Medicine

Parker Bowles doesn’t take herself too seriously, even at the most official engagements. According to Parker Bowles, it’s the formal situations where things seem to go “terribly wrong,” and “…everybody sits there (frozen) for a split-second,” that she finds hilarious. This might explain why so many photos of Camilla picture the Duchess laughing or smirking.

29. Quite the Phobia You’ve Got There

Parker Bowles is absolutely terrified of flying. Her hectic schedule demands frequent airplane travel, but when she and Prince Charles traveled to Australia, Camilla actually refused to accompany her husband further afield because she was so stressed and afraid of more flights.

30. Put a Ring on it

Before she married Prince Charles, Camilla was in a long-term relationship with a soldier named Andrew Parker Bowles. Because of his job, Andrew was often away from his girlfriend…and her family was starting to get antsy about when he’d get on one knee and propose. And so Camilla’s father and Andrew’s brother hatched a brilliant plan.

They teamed up and placed an engagement announcement in the local newspaper. After that, Andrew Parker Bowles received the message loud and clear. He hopped to and popped the question.

31. Comfy Shoes

Parker Bowles is famous for going nude (snap!) with her footwear. She’s often spotted wearing nude-toned Chanel pumps, an elegant, comfy style that she sports frequently. Parker Bowles is said to have a soft spot for Chanel’s double “C” logo because it reminds her of “Charles and Camilla.” That’s one way to pressure your husband into buying you expensive shoes.
Cami

32. What a Girl Wants

The backstory of Prince Charles choosing Diana Spencer is well-documented. The Royal Family favored her, and the public fell in love with her, but apparently, Charles only agreed to the match after getting Parker Bowles’s blessing. According to royal biographer Anthony Holden, Parker Bowles had a dark reason for approving the match.

She “had met the blushing little Spencer girl and deduced she was not going to give them any trouble.”

33. Cradle Robber

Few people realize that Camilla is actually older than Charles. Parker Bowles beat him to this earth by 16 months.

34. You May Now Kiss the Bride

When Prince Charles finally married Parker Bowles in 2005, British newspapers ran full-page headlines like “Husband and wife—at last.” The exaggeration was no joke. The star-crossed couple (who’d been instantly attracted to each other when they first met) had waited 34 excruciating, tragedy-filled years to walk down the aisle and say “I do.”

35. Don’t Believe the Hype

The first meeting of Charles and Parker Bowles is still mysterious. According to an authorized biography, The Prince of Wales, the two didn’t meet at a polo match, and Parker Bowles didn’t make a crack about her ancestor Alice Keppel and his ancestor King Edward VII being lovers. Instead, the duo were introduced by the most unlikely person: Charles’ ex-lover, Lucia Santa Cruz.

36. Upstairs Downstairs

Lucia Santa Cruz met Charles when they were both in residence at elite Cambridge University. She’s very significant in the Prince’s life—for a very risque reason. She took a little something called his virginity. Santa Cruz was five years older than the prince and far more sophisticated, and while they dated for some time, the relationship ran its course.

In 1971, Santa Cruz found an upstairs flat in London’s Belgravia neighborhood. She became great friends with Parker Bowles, who lived downstairs.

37. Love Actually

According to friends, when Charles met Camilla Shand, he “lost his heart…almost at once.” Their “instant attraction” went quickly from friendship to a love affair. If you’re picturing a cheesy royal romance novel, get real. Charles and a down-to-earth Camilla bonded over frat-boy comedies, like a 70s BBC radio series called The Goon Show.

Charles also loved how she preferred life in “the country with horses and hunting.” In other words, she wasn’t like all the other girls.

38. He Blew It

During the first year of their relationship, Charles penned enough corny love letters to Camilla for ten cheesy royal romance novels. In November 1972, Charles considered proposing to her, but (according to his biographer) he began to doubt his feelings. The truth was, Camilla had a “past”—and Charles knew his parents thought she was unsuitable.

39. Thank You, Next

In January 1973, Charles was assigned to a seven-month tour of duty with the Royal Navy. He left his girlfriend Camilla Shand behind, but their future together wasn’t confirmed. Two months later, Charles was absolutely blindsided. The Prince learned that his beloved Camilla was engaged to another man, Andrew Parker Bowles.

He wrote of being devastated that “such a blissful, peaceful and mutually happy relationship” was over.

40. A Love…Square?

If you hate basic math (and/or basic soap opera plotlines), beware this fact. Before she met Charles, Camilla Shand dated, and eventually married, Andrew Parker Bowles on-and-off. But here’s where it gets too close for comfort. In 1970, Andrew was seriously involved with Princess Anne. Yup, Charles’s sister. We guess Charles and his sister Anne had similar romantic taste.

Ah, the joys of untangling the royal family’s limited dating pool.

41. Don’t Stop Believing

Although Charles was devastated by Parker Bowles’s marriage, he remained one of her closest friends. Charles even agreed to be godfather to Parker Bowles’s son, Tom.

42. Star-Studded Cousins

Genealogists have traced a branch of Parker Bowles’s ancestry back to New France (now Quebec, Canada) in the 17th century. Camilla’s distant cousins from that gene pool include several celebrities like Madonna, Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Shania Twain, and one non-musical famous person: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

43. G&F Forever

While they were having their affair, Parker Bowles and Charles nicknamed each other Gladys and Fred. It’s cute, well, except for the painful way that the late Princess Diana discovered their endearment. Before her wedding to Charles, Diana discovered an expensive gold bracelet that Parker Bowles had just given Charles with the initials, “G” and “F.”

44. Finishing Her Off

As a teenager, Parker Bowles was sent to the Mon Fertile school in the Swiss Alps from 1963-1964. Mon Fertile might conjure up some weird, self-identifying fertility ritual, but it was just an old-fashioned finishing school where wealthy girls learned posh stuff like etiquette. An old photo shows how Camilla really felt about upper-crust manners.

It shows a bored-to-death-looking Parker Bowles, full-out yawning beside her classmates as they watch a “fashion demonstration.”

45. If It Makes You Happy

The royal family’s biographer Penny Junor explained the unique bond between Camilla and Charles. She wrote that Parker Bowles “has given Charles belief in himself that he’s never had before, and that has made him much more likable and therefore much more popular.” Junor believes that her positive influence over Charles has even strengthened the monarchy.

46. Miss You Much

Parker Bowles was close to her immediate family, and she speaks to her sister Annabel every day. Her parents have passed, and her brother Mark died when he was just 62 years old. When he was alive, Parker Bowles said that Mark would phone her frequently, saying “Camillsy…” and she knew immediately that he wanted something.

“But God, I miss him.” Parker Bowles says touchingly of her brother, who died of an accidental head injury at just 62 years old.

47. “I’m a Cool Mom”

Parker Bowles’s grown children rave about their mother. Her son Tom calls her “exceptional,” adding that “she never got cross about bad school reports, getting into trouble and so on. She would come to Eton and take me out to McDonald’s.” That’s like slumming it to posh folks.

48. Strong Pick Up Line, Camilla

Gotta hand it to her: Camilla Parker Bowles captured Prince Charles’ heart for a reason. When the couple first met in their early 20s, Parker Bowles curtsied, and then sidled up to the royal Prince. According to some, she saucily whispered, “My great-grandmother and your great-great-grandfather were lovers. So how about it?” He was immediately smitten.

49. Just Don’t Invite Her

In a painfully awkward twist, Camilla Parker Bowles actually attended Charles’ wedding to Princess Diana. Yikes. But it gets worse. According to one biography, right before Diana walked down the aisle with Charles, she heard her fiancé “murmuring endearments” to his ex-girlfriend on the phone. This family needs so much therapy.

50. TFW Your Dirty Texts Almost Break the Monarchy

In 1993, a private, bedtime phone conversation between Charles and Parker Bowles was somehow taped—and that tape was leaked to the public. The conversations were so lurid that some called for the dissolution of the monarchy. In their phone calls, Charles tells Camilla that he wants to be even closer to her than, um, her feminine hygiene products. 27 years later, the scandal has dissolved into a mildly cringey aside, but I, for one, will never forget those tapes.

Princess Diana: Files Reveal Plea For Elton John to Perform at Funeral

The Dean of Westminster personally appealed to Buckingham Palace to ensure Sir Elton John performed at Princess Diana's funeral, released files reveal.

BBC News 30 DEC 2021.

Sir Elton performed at Princess Diana's funeral in 1997

Princess Diana

The Very Rev Wesley Carr wrote that doing so would be "imaginative and generous" to the millions feeling "personally bereaved".

Sir Elton, who was a friend of Diana's, performed a reworked version of Candle In The Wind at the service in 1997.

But papers from the National Archives suggest a backup plan was in place.

Sir Elton's lyricist Bernie Taupin had just rewritten the song about Marilyn Monroe - Candle In The Wind - with new lyrics about Princess Diana, retitled England's Rose.

In a note to a senior member of the royal household, Dean Wesley Carr wrote that the song was being played "all the time" on the radio.

The dean recognised it would be unconventional, but urged "boldness", and the "inclusion of something of the modern world that the princess represented".

Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris on 31 August 1997

Her death prompted an unprecedented outpouring of public grief, with hundreds of thousands of bouquets left at her Kensington Palace home.

Many were angry about what they saw as the indifference of the Royal Family towards the princess, after she had divorced Prince Charles and relinquished her HRH royal title.

At the time, Dean Carr - who took part in negotiations over the service between the palace and Princess Diana's family - said being involved in her funeral was the biggest thing he had ever done.

He saw it as a "rare opportunity for the abbey to bring together pageantry, history and the common touch".

The files show he saw Sir Elton as an essential part of that combination.

The abbey had arranged for a young saxophonist to be on standby to deliver a poignant solo, although the dean described this as "a very second best shot".

He added that if the words of England's Rose were thought "too sentimental" then he would suggest they were not printed in the funeral's order of service.

But he thought such sentiment appropriate given the public mood.

Dean Carr, who died in 2017 and was described as "fearless" in his obituary, told a senior member of the royal household, Lt Col Malcolm Ross, that he was ready to "discuss the significance of this suggestion over the phone with anyone".

The files don't show whether that happened.

Lt Col Ross wrote later that he was unable to influence the choice of soloist, and had had to turn down opera singer Plácido Domingo when he offered to sing at the funeral.

Sir Elton's performance was one of the most memorable moments in the funeral, which was watched by hundreds of millions around the world.

England's Rose went on to sell 33 million copies worldwide.

Diana & Camilla - Who Is More Deserving of 'Queen' Title

Kate, Duchess of Cambridges' act of inconvenience' towards Camilla, Queen CONSORT is a telling insight

Both Kate Middleton and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, attended the annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey alongside their husbands Prince William and Prince Charles

Daily Mirror 15 MAR 2022

Queen Elizabeth II Reigning Monarch Has Reigned Since 6 February 1952.

Camilla -Queen CONSORT in WAITING

The Duchess of Cambridge performed a huge "act of inconvenience" as she greeted her stepmother-in-law Camilla at today's Commonwealth Day service, an expert has said.

Both Kate and Camilla attended the Westminster Abbey service alongside Prince William and Prince Charles, who represented the Queen at the event, after she pulled out of attending.

After the royal party arrived at the Abbey, there was a sweet moment where William and Kate greeted Charles and Camilla with hugs and kisses before they started their procession down the aisle.

And according to body language expert Judi James, Kate was keen to show her affection and closeness to Camilla, who is set to be the next Queen Consort ahead of her stepdaughter-in-law.

Kate greets Camilla at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey

Judi told the Mirror: "Kate touched Camilla’s arm with her left hand as an add-on gesture to suggest closeness and affection as they cheek-kissed. She also performed a huge ‘act of inconvenience’ to show respect, bending her knees to lower herself right down to plant her kiss on Camilla’s cheeks.

The royals all together at the start of the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey

"These greeting add-ons are tie-signs that would signal to Camilla and to the rest of the world that Kate is keen to register affection and closeness with the woman who will be on the throne before her."

However, before the group greeted each other, Judi said there were some signs of "residue tension" from the last Commonwealth Day service in 2020, which was the last royal engagement before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the Royal Family.

Queen CONSORT Camilla opted for a regal shade of purple for her outfit

Kate wore a royal blue Catherine Walker coat

She explained: "Pared-down and paired-up, the body language displays of affection and unity from Charles, Camilla, William and Kate today looked like an emphatic statement of closure after the unbearable tensions and open rifts of 2020, when Harry and Meghan were biding farewell to the UK and Edward and Sophie had to sit as human buffers to avoid layers of perma-frost forming.

"The most telling moment came when the four stood together waiting to walk down the aisle. There were signals of residue tension from William on arrival, who may still have been remembering the ghosts of the past as he arrived with one hand spread-eagled across his stomach in a barrier gesture before.... wiping his hands together and patting at his clothing to suggest inner anxiety, but he chatted, smiling, with Kate to look more upbeat than his sombre and tense expression two years before.

"Even Charles arrived stuffing his hand into his pocket and looking a little frail and unsteady on his feet, but when the group convened it was kisses all round and an air of relaxation that they all seemed to be enjoying.

"William kissed Camilla on both cheeks and Charles did the same to Kate before standing close in front of her using prolonged eye contact as he smiled and pointed in an animated conversation. Kate mirrored his pointing gesture, suggesting fond approval and like-minded thinking."

Princess Dianas' Brother Charles Spencer Shares Family Tomb Photo For First Time

The Earl was commemorating the 500th-year anniversary of the death of his late ancestor Sir John Spencer, who was a politician and knighted during his lifetime

Diana, Princess Of Wales, tragically died in 1997

Princess Diana's brother Charles Spencer has shared a private look inside his family tomb.

"This is amazing and beautiful. Love his praying hands".

The Earl was commemorating the 500th-year anniversary of the death of his late ancestor Sir John Spencer, who was a politician and knighted during his lifetime.

Charles shared a glimpse inside his private tomb, where a stone figure with its hands together in a prayer gesture was lying in rest.

It was situated near a stained-glass window, and was decorated with multiple crosses over the arms and shoulders.

In a post on Instagram, Charles wrote: "The tomb of my ancestor Sir John Spencer - who died precisely 500 years ago today, on 14 April 1522.

"He bought the farmland around Althorp, and then built @althorphouse in 1508. Businessman, sheep farmer, sheriff, and politician, he was knighted by Henry VIII in 1519."

Fans were moved by the post, with one writing: "Where is this tomb located? Its detail is impressive. I'd love to see his face. He would have missed the reformation times. He would be proud to know his home is still in great hands."

A second added: "You are so very lucky to be able to trace your ancestors! This is everything. I wish I could."

A third said: "I can't get over how beautifully detailed and well maintained the tomb is. It's in exceptional condition. I'd love to see other photos of it from different angles."
And a fifth commented: "How interesting to be able to know so much about your ancestor. Wouldn't he be amazed to see it today and to meet you and hear about the modern-day Spencer's!"

Earlier this year, Charles shared a striking black-and-white photo of the 550-acre property from the 1800s, and shared that an old wing of the building no longer exists.

In his caption, he explained: "In the 19th century Althorp briefly had a billiard room / extra library - the additional wing is visible towards the left of this photograph.

Princess Dianas' Tragic Brother is Remembered as Her Family Pay Tribute to His Short Life

Princess Dianas' younger brother Charles, Earl Spencer, has revealed he has overseen a project that pays tribute to his and Dianas' older brother John, who died shortly after he was born in 1960

The family of Princess Diana has revealed a moving tribute to her older brother John, who tragically died shortly after birth.

Diana's younger brother, Charles Spencer, took to Instagram to reveal a beautiful restoration of John's gravestone, which commemorates his short life.

The first of the two images in his Instagram post shows a before picture of the grave of John, who was born and died on 12 January 1960, in disrepair.

An engraving of the Spencer coat of arms can be seen on the worn-out grave where the writing is barely legible, reports OK!.

But a second image reveals a restored tombstone offering a loving tribute to John’s life, which reads: "In loving memory of John Spencer, son of Viscount and Viscountess Althorp, born and died January 12 1960.

And on Instagram Charles, the ninth Earl Spencer, wrote: "Looking as it should, now… I never knew my older brother, John, and live 100 miles from his grave - but, seeing it last summer, realised serious action was required.

“Thank you, BB, for making it look as it should.”

As well as older brother John and younger brother Charles, Diana also has two sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellows.

Last month Charles, who is the custodian of the Spencer family's Althorp estate in Northamptonshire, also took to Instagram to share a private look inside his family tomb.

The Earl, an uncle of Prince William and Prince Harry, was commemorating the 500th anniversary of the death of his late ancestor Sir John Spencer, who was a politician and knighted during his lifetime.

Charles shared a glimpse inside his private tomb, where a stone figure with its hands together in a prayer gesture was lying in rest.

In a post on Instagram, dad of seven Charles wrote: "The tomb of my ancestor Sir John Spencer - who died precisely 500 years ago today, on 14 April 1522.

Angry re: Never Before Seen Photos of Princess Diana & Charles With Baby William

What Happened to Princess Diana's Jewellery and Who inherited Her Jewels?

Diana's Jewellery Collection Broken Up After Death - and SOME Went to Camilla

Princess Diana was known for picking out eye-catching jewels and necklaces to wear. Items she wore during her lifetime are still regularly modelled today by members of the Royal Family

Daily Mirror 1 JUL 2022

Princess Diana wore such a heavy tiara on her wedding day that is said to have given her a headache.

The former Princess of Wales - who would have turned 61 today, July 1 - became known for her eye-catching jewellery during her lifetime, including her sapphire engagement ring that is now proudly worn by Kate Middleton.

As part of her fairytale wedding ceremony when she tied the knot with Prince Charles in 1981, Diana wore a famous Spencer tiara.

Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, later recalled how the sparkling jewellery gave Diana a splitting headache on the day of her nuptials because she was not used to wearing the heavy set of jewels.

The death of Diana in 1997 saw the 36-year-old’s personal and royal jewellery either given to others or handed back to the original collections.

What Happened to Diana’s Jewellery?

Personal pieces of Diana’s rings, necklaces and other items have been inherited by her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

Being born into an aristocratic family meant she owned some high-quality jewellery even before her marriage to Charles.

After the wedding, she was known to wear items from the Queen’s collection, which is said to contain more than 300 items.

Since her sons have married, their wives have since gone on to wear various pieces from Diana’s collection.

Does Kate Middleton Wear Diana's Ring?

Kate wearing Princess Diana's sapphire engagement ring

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge was given Diana’s engagement ring when she was proposed to by Prince William.

The blingy engagement ring consists of 14 diamonds surrounding a 12-carat oval blue Ceylon sapphire set in 18-karat white gold. It was created by then crown jeweller Garrard.

Prince Harry is said to have chosen the engagement ring as a memento after his mother’s passing but later decided to give it to his older brother as he reportedly wanted the ring to one day "be sat on the throne of England".

Harry's wife Meghan Markle has two of Diana's diamonds in her engagement ring and wore an aquamarine ****tail ring that had belonged to her mother-in-law to the evening reception of their Windsor wedding.

Does Camilla Have Any of Diana’s Jewellery?

Princess Diana wearing the diamond circle emerald pendant as a necklace in 1986

Camilla has adapted the necklace Diana wore into a brooch

Prince Charles ’ second wife Camilla - whose relationship with the heir apparent during his marriage to Diana is said to have helped break the royal couple apart - has not been shy at adapting pieces previously worn by Diana.

Diana famously wore a green emerald and diamond 19th century necklace that had been gifted to her by the Queen Mother on her wedding day at St Paul’s Cathedral.

However, after Diana’s death, it was restored to the royal collection and Camilla, who will become Queen Consort when Charles takes the throne, has been spotted frequently wearing it as a brooch.

What Happened to Diana’s Wedding Day Tiara?

The item has remained in the Spencer collection and was recently available to be seen as part of a display of the UK’s largest exhibition of tiaras in 20 years.

Earl Spencer loaned the priceless family heirloom to Sotheby’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations – the first time the piece was exhibited in London since the 1960s.

Diana wore the elaborate garland tiara – which has a central heart-shaped motif set with diamonds flanked by continuous running scrolls, interspersed with star and trumpet-shaped flowers – on many occasions after her wedding, including at state dinners on royal overseas tours.

Princess Diana: 'Think They Are Going to Kill Me.'

Princess Di Chillingly Asked ‘Do You Think They’re Going To Kill Me?’ Before Her Death

CBC News 3 Sept 2022

Diana: The Ultimate Truth

Marking the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, an investigative journalist and former police detective embarks on a ground-breaking investigation to uncover the truth about what happened that night.

The 25th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana, who was killed in a car crash in Paris, France at the age of 36 back in 1997. Now, it’s been revealed that Diana was so shaken by the murder of the fashion Gianni Versace one month before her own death that she asked her bodyguard, “do you think they’re going to kill me?”

Sansum described Diana as being someone who came off “as a normal person, just like you and I,” which proved to be “a breath of fresh air.” After being hounded by paparazzi relentlessly in Europe, Diana reportedly wanted to relocate to the U.S. and “get away from it all.”

“Dodi had a place out in California,” Sansum explained. “We were under the impression that’s where she was going. Not necessarily to stay with him but in the same area. Prior to the trip, we understood that there would be work out there as well. I put my name down to go to the states. I’ve got a lot of family in the states. I thought it’d be a great opportunity for me to go there, but obviously, that didn’t turn out.”

“She spoke to me about moving to the states,” he added. “She said that the press hated her in the UK. She didn’t know why, but in the states, people loved her there, the press loved her there. She felt safe there. She felt welcomed there. And that’s where she had to go. I then asked her, ‘What about the boys? Will you be able to take them with you?’ She said, ‘No, they will never let me do that. I’ll just have to see them during school time, school holidays, vacations, things like that.’”

Diana and Dodi were sadly killed weeks after this vacation on August 31, 1997, when their car crashed while they were being chased by paparazzi.

It’s hard to believe that it’s really been a quarter century since Diana left this earth, but she is still missed by millions of people to this day. It’s sad to see that she was clearly so stressed in the weeks leading up to her passing, but we can all find comfort in the fact that she is now at peace.

Angry re: Never Before Seen Photos of Princess Diana & Charles With Baby William

Consort Camillas’ Eight-Word Comeback When Diana Confronted Her Over Charles Affair Baffled Staff

King Charles affair with Camilla during his marriage to Princess Diana features heavily in season five in The Crown, but how much of the Netflix show's storyline is actually true?

BBC News 11 NOV 2022.

..Errrr... Dont WITCHES have BLACK teeth?..

Charles and Diana...Princess Diana knew something was going on between her husband and Camilla

Charles and Camilla dated before the Prince married Diana

King Charles’ affair with Camilla during his marriage to Princess Diana is one of the key storylines in the latest season of The Crown, showing how the late Princess found out her husband was being unfaithful and recreating her infamous “three people in her marriage” interview.

Charles and Camilla dated before the now-King met his first wife, however it didn’t work out. They remained close friends but soon rekindled their romance, which didn’t go unnoticed by the heartbroken Diana. She found gifts Charles bought for his mistress in his office and knew they used secret nicknames for each other.

But Diana wasn’t just going to sit back and watch her marriage fail, and once confronted Camilla at a party in what she later described as the “bravest moment of her marriage”.

Diana’s former royal protection officer, Ken Wharfe, accompanied her to a party hosted by Camilla’s sister.

The Crown season five review - what to expect from the show's much anticipated return

While Camilla and Charles knew most of the other guests, Diana’s friends didn’t attend and partygoers were surprised when she walked in.

Speaking earlier this year, Mr Wharfe told ITV : "Diana didn't have any particular friendships at that party but when we arrived there, it was almost like freeze-framing a scene in a movie because there was this surprise that Diana had even arrived.”

The party was in full swing, and within an hour Mr Wharfe heard his boss calling his name.

The affair is a key storyline in season five of The Crown, with Dominic West playing Charles and Elizabeth Debicki taking on the role of Diana

He said: "I went out and there was Diana, who said 'you've got to come with me, I can't find my husband or Camilla'. Now, I couldn't say no, clearly this woman was in some distress, and eventually we found the prince and Camilla sat on a sofa in the basement of this property just talking."

He claims Diana went over to Camilla and offered her a stark warning, to which the future Queen Consort gave a stuttered reply.

He said: "I didn't know quite what Diana was going to do at that point but, with a great deal of confidence,

Diana just went up to both of them and said to Camilla 'please don't treat me like an idiot, I know what's going on'.

"And Camilla sort of said something, to which still to this day I have never really understood what she meant by that is....

'well you know, you have two wonderful boys'.

Well, it was an incredible moment for me and certainly for them as well.

"That was a defining moment in their life because I think at that point... this was an indicator the end was nigh."

Diana and Charles announced their separation in 1992 and their divorce was finalised in 1996. The King married Camilla in April 2005, and she became Queen Consort following Queen Elizabeth II’s death earlier this year.

Thumbs Up re: Princess Diana and What Might Have Been....

Never Before Seen Photos of Diana and Charles When They Were Happy With Baby William

Rare unseen pics, taken in September 1982, show a beaming King Charles cradling his infant son Prince William and Princess Diana cuddling the newborn. The photos will be auctioned next month

BBC 28 FEB 2023

Stunning private photos of Princess Diana and King Charles with a three-month-old Prince William at Balmoral in Scotland are set to be auctioned next month.

Experts predict the collection will be sold for tens of thousands.

The rare unseen pictures, which were taken in September 1982, show a beaming King Charles cradling his infant son and Princess Diana cuddling the newborn.

Other photos show Diana in her green wellies and King Charles posing next to the Queen, who is wearing a grey and red tartan skirt.

The 22 pictures were taken during a visit by British Airways businessman, Baron King, who was a friend of the Royal family.

Stephen Drake, of Willingham Auctions in Cambridgeshire, is preparing the lot for sale in the coming days.

He said the collection was sure to amass huge interest from around the world, with royal memorabilia at an all-time high.

Princess Diana's sweet link to Kate Middleton in never-before-seen candid pictures

Mr Drake added: “There were lots of photos taken of Princess Diana but these offer a really personal insight.

“The collection of photos is a real one-off, you will never come across another set of photos like this.

“The photo of King Charles holding William is such an amazing photo, he looks like such a proud happy father.

“In the photos, Diana, Charles and William look like a complete family group. You see a lot of press photos but these are nothing like those, they are being photographed as normal people, which for royalty is an amazing experience to see.

“As auctioneers we are only custodians of our items for a short amount of time and it’s very exciting to have them here. It really is causing a huge amount of interest.

“The sky is the limit on the price. We have never had anything like this before.

“Plenty of pictures have been sold of Princess Diana before, but nothing as relaxed as this and nothing as early in her marriage.
“The collection of photos come with the negatives so whoever buys it will own the copyright and that is the premium.

“There are also no other copies of these photos out there, these are the only ones. We’ll see what happens on the day, we have high hopes.”

The photos, which come complete with the original negatives, will be auctioned on March 4.

Other pictures in this latest unique collection show a relaxed-looking Princess Diana and Charles sitting on the ground and looking over the Royal estate.

Diana, who is wearing blue corduroy trousers and a yellow jumper, has put a blue coat on the ground to sit on.
In another picture Princess Diana, who is wearing a white polo neck, looks lovingly at Prince William as she shows him off to Baron King.

Another image shows Diana posing on a gate with the beautiful views of Balmoral behind her.
Charles and Diana separated in 1992, after 11 years of marriage.

Diana tragically died in a car crash on 31 August 1997 at the age of 36.
The couple’s sons Prince William and Prince Harry are now 40 and 38.

Experts say there has been fervent interest in royal memorabilia since the death of the late Queen, who passed away on September 8 last year.

A recently unearthed treasure trove of personal letters by Princess Diana, where she revealed her torment at her “desperate and ugly” divorce to Prince Charles was sold last week for £145,550 at an auction in Cornwall.

Diana sought support and advice from friends Susie and Tarek Kassem throughout her acrimonious and very public split from the future King Charles III. In the 32 emotionally raw letters and message cards, she described how the negotiations over the divorce settlement had left her “on my knees”.

In others she took veiled digs at the Royal Family for isolating her, told of her fears that her phone was being bugged - a plot line which featured in the latest series of The Crown - and thanked them for letting her spend an otherwise lonely Christmas and Easter with them.

The Kassems said that owning the poignant documents is a responsibility they do not wish to pass on to their children or grandchildren.

The proceeds will be donated to charities Diana supported.
The photos, which come complete with the original negatives and folder, will be auctioned at Willingham Auctions in Cambridgeshire on March 4

Amazon Documentary Reveals Camillas' Secret Private Jet Trips During Affair With Charles

Amazon documentary 'My King Charles' will air on the day of the coronation and hear from people who were involved in the pairs' secret overseas trips to secretly meet one another whilst he was married to PRINCESS Diana

BBC News 1 MAY 2023

A new documentary set to air on the day of King Charles coronation will expose the secret overseas affair he and Camilla had before Princess Diana died.

Airing on Amazon this Saturday, 'My King Charles' will hear about the couple would secretly rendezvous between 1981 to 2000 without the press knowing.

Details are revealed by Squadron Leader Graham Lane, who was the King's personal pilot, and had inside knowledge of the overseas visits, the MailOnline reports.

He said: "They were getting together overseas but the Press didn’t cotton on."

Another contributor to the documentary, My King Charles, claims Diana had an affair with a bodyguard and flew into a rage when he was transferred to other duties.

Based at RAF Northolt, Mr Laurie was one of man pilots in London who clocked up more than 2,000 Royal flights between 1981 and 2000.

Most were with Charles, but he was also responsible for bringing home Dianas' body after she died in 1997.

He told the documentary: "As regards Camilla, I didn’t ever fly her but we did see her involvement in certain trips when we went abroad.

"There would be a civilian charter aircraft on the tarmac before we got there and it was still there when we left. I found out afterwards that actually Camilla had flown in and out on that aircraft."

The pair were secretly meeting while Charles and Diana were together

Insiders at US broadcaster Paramount said Mr Laurie didn't know who paid for Camilla’s flights on the private jet.

At least one was made in 1994 when Camilla was still married to Andrew Parker Bowles and King Charles had yet to divorce.

The programme will also hear from former Royal protection officer Allan Peters, who recalls his experience of dealing with an angry Diana when he tried to stop an alleged affair with bodyguard Barry Mannakee.

Squadron Leader Graham Lane says the press didn't "cotton on" to the pairs overseas meetings

"I was in my office at Kensington Palace and she was in the doorway throwing her shoes at the back of my head, upset, because she was putting the blame on me.," he said.

At the time, Sgt Peters worked for Diana while Mannakee was assigned to her sons, William and Harry, who was then only a one-year-old.

He added: "I started to notice her conduct in the presence of Mannakee getting more and more strange... As far as I could ascertain they were having an affair."

The documentary will hear how the Queen Consort, who was then Camilla Parker Bowles, would take a private jet to meet Charles

He said Diana went crazy after Mannakee – who died in a motorcycle accident in 1987 – was moved to other duties. Sgt Peters added: "She was distraught "

Princess Diana and What Might Have Been: Coronation Evokes Mixed Views

BBC News 5 MAY 2023

Diana, Princess of Wales

While there will be “support” for King Charles and Camilla at the upcoming coronation, some observers will be thinking of those who aren’t attending – including the late Princess Diana, says Associate Professor Cindy McCreery.

“So I think that around the world there will be support for the king and interest in the coronation,” Ms McCreery told Sky News Australia.

“But also, perhaps a sense of poignancy about what might have been.”

Mohamed Al Fayed, Father of Princess Dianas’ Partner Dodi Dies Aged 94

Mohamed Al Fayed: Former Harrods and Fulham FC owner has died at the age of 94

His family say he "passed away peacefully of old age" on Wednesday. As well as being a prolific businessman, he fought a long campaign after his son Dodis' death in a Paris car crash in which Princess Diana was also killed in 1997.

BBC 2 SEP 2023

Al Fayed was buried after Friday prayers at London Central Mosque in Regent's Park.

Dodi Fayed and Princess Diana.

The Egyptian-born businessman was best known as a former owner of the Harrods department store and Fulham football club in London.

Al Fayed's son, the film producer Dodi Fayed, and Princess Diana died on 31 August 1997 when their car crashed in a road tunnel in Paris as they tried to outrun paparazzi photographers on motorbikes.

The news of Al Fayed's passing comes just one day after the 26th anniversary of his son's death.

He fought a long campaign after their deaths, alleging the crash was not an accident and that it had been orchestrated by the British security services.

However, French police concluded it was an accident, caused in part by speeding and by the high alcohol level in driver Henri Paul's blood. A British police investigation concurred.

His family said in a statement: "Mrs Mohamed Al Fayed, her children and grandchildren wish to confirm that her beloved husband, their father and their grandfather, Mohamed, has passed away peacefully of old age on Wednesday 30 August, 2023.

"He enjoyed a long and fulfilled retirement surrounded by his loved ones. The family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time."

Movies Re: Princess Diana-Queen of Hearts' LAST Phone Call-What Really Happened Before Her D

What Really Happened Hours Before Princess Dianas' Death

How Did Princess Diana Die? Everything to Know About Her Tragic Passing

60 Minutes Australia 16 NOV 2023

Diana, princess of Wales, (born July 1, 1961, Sandringham, Norfolk, England—died August 31, 1997, Paris, France), former consort (1981–96) of Charles, prince of Wales (later Charles III); mother of the heir apparent to the British throne, Prince William (born 1982); and one of the foremost celebrities of her day.

The death of Princess Diana in 1997 was a major moment in history that is garnering attention all over against thanks to The Crown. The upcoming sixth and final season of the hit Netflix series will examine the tragic accident that killed Prince William and Prince Harry‘s mother which shocked the world and the royal family.

Over 25 years since her death, Diana is still a beloved figure in history because of her impact on fashion and her advocacy work. But the memories of her passing are still extremely painful for many, especially her two sons.

Diana was killed on August 31, 1997 in a traffic accident in Paris, France. The Princess of Wales, just 36 at the time of her passing, was in the French capital with her boyfriend Dodi Fayed, who she started dating after her divorce from Prince Charles (now King Charles). Diana, Dodi, Trevor Rees-Jones, her bodyguard, and Henri Paul, their driver, were trying to flee paparazzi who were on motorcycles behind them when the crashed occurred.

Henri slammed their Mercedes into a pillar at 65 mph in Paris’ Pont de l’Alma tunnel. Henri and Dodi were killed on impact, while Diana died at the hospital hours later. Trevor was the sole survivor of the crash.

It was later revealed that Henri had been driving the limousine under the influence. Diana, Dodi, and Henri were all not wearing seatbelts in the crash, an investigation found. Despite the accident, the paparazzi still remained at the scene and even photographed Diana in her final moments before she was taken to the hospital where she died. Prince Harry, 39, has gone on record saying he blames the paparazzi for his mothers’ death.

The Aftermath of Princess Dianas’ Death

The public was devastated when they learned of Diana’s death. They mourned the Princess of Wales by leaving notes and flowers outside Buckingham Palace. The royal family was shaken to the core by Diana’s death, as well.

Prince William, who was 15 at the time, and Prince Harry, who was 12 at the time, learned of their mother’s death while they were vacationing with their father, Charles, at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

“What I do remember with stunning clarity is that I did not cry. Not a tear. My father did not hug me,” Harry recalled of the moment Charles told him Diana died in an interview with NBC News in January 2023.

William reflected on learning about the tragedy in the 2017 BBC documentary, Diana, 7 Days. “You feel very, very confused. And you keep asking yourself, ‘Why me?’ All the time, ‘Why? What have I done? Why? Why has this happened to us?’ ” he said.

Judge Orders BBC to Release Emails Related to Martin Bashirs´ Princess Diana Interview

Princess Dianas' brother Earl Spencer accused BBC bosses of 'hiding behind expensive lawyers' after they failed to hand over thousands of emails over Martin Bashirs' notorious Panorama interview with the princess

Daily Mail 11 DEC 2023

A judge has ordered the BBC to release a large number of emails surrounding Martin Bashirs’ controversial interview with Diana, Princess of Wales.

Judge Brian Kennedy said the corporation had been “inconsistent, erroneous and unreliable” in the way it dealt with the initial request to release material under Freedom of Information (FOI) law, the BBC reported.

The material related to how the broadcaster handled the scandal when it came to light in 2020.

The judge added the BBC’s response was a “cause for serious concern”.

Earl Spencer arrives at BBC Broadcasting House in London

The ruling comes following a tribunal over whether details should be released under FOI law, after the documents were requested by documentary maker Andrew Webb, who initially exposed Mr Bashir.

Mr Webb complained the broadcaster had failed to release more than 3,000 emails related to its handling of the scandal.

During closing speeches at the tribunal in September, Mr Webb described the BBC’s actions as a “cover up”.

The BBC apologised during the tribunal for “errors” in its handling of disclosure.

In a statement reported by BBC News following the judge’s ruling, the corporation accepted mistakes had been made but said it was considering the judgment and that it had apologised to Mr Webb and the tribunal.

Diana’s brother Earl Spencer criticised the BBC for trying to prevent the release of the emails, telling BBC Radio 4’s Broadcasting House on Sunday: “The problem here is one of the integrity of people at the BBC.”

He stressed he is a “huge supporter” of the BBC but added: “People at the BBC who are responsible for this have hidden behind expensive lawyers at a time when the BBC, this great national and international institution, is making cuts. And I think that’s obscene.

“Lord Dyson did a brilliant job dealing with the brief he was given, which was very much about the events of 1995 [and] a few years after that. This is a separate issue. This deals with what [journalist] Andy Webb refers to as the cover up of the cover up and that goes only back to the autumn of 2020.

“I was told when I approached the BBC management at that time (in autumn 2020) that there was no way we could talk to Martin Bashir, he was too ill to talk and he was written off by doctors as such.

Martin Bashir was criticised over how he obtained an interview with Diana

“But we know, we haven’t been able to read yet, but we know there are 38 emails between Bashir and senior people at the BBC at this time. My suspicion is that they were cooking up a story to try and make him unavailable during a time of particular interest in Diana’s interview, which was the 25th anniversary.

“It’s about people who are still in power in the BBC who have taken decisions that I question, and the judge has certainly questioned. I think that’s the issue here.

“I believe the BBC should be guarded by responsible senior figures and not hidden behind to protect their careers.”

In 2021, an independent inquiry found the broadcaster covered up “deceitful behaviour” used by journalist Mr Bashir to secure his headline-making interview with Diana in 1995.

Mr Bashir was in “serious breach” of the BBC’s producer guidelines when he faked bank statements and showed them to Earl Spencer to gain access to the princess, a report by Lord Dyson said.

Diana famously told the BBC journalist in the interview: “There were three of us in this marriage so it was a bit crowded.”

BBC Had Previously Defied Judges' Order to Release its Martin Bashir Email Trail:

---Documents could expose ongoing cover-up of what bosses knew about deception deployed to secure controversial interview with Princess Diana.

The BBC has released about 3,000 heavily redacted emails relating to an investigation into Princess Dianas’ notorious 1995 interview on Panorama with Martin Bashir which nearly brought down the monarchy.

The BBC has revealed a raft of emails relating to an investigation into Princess Dianas’ infamous Panorama interview with Martin Bashir in 1995, including allegations Bashir fooled the Princess into conducting the exclusive.

Dianas’ sit-down with Bashir in November 1995 was seen by an audience of 200 million people around the world but the BBC said it would never air it again after an inquiry in 2020 found the Princess had likely been hoodwinked.

During the exclusive interview, Diana spoke candidly about her battles with depression and bulimia, as well as her infidelity and the breakdown of her marriage to King Charles.

In October 2020, Lord Dyson, a former senior judge, was appointed to lead an independent inquiry into the interview and how it was secured, the findings of which were revealed in May 2021.

It has since emerged that Diana was highly paranoid at the time of the sit-down and likely only agreed to the interview because Bashir produced fake bank statements to make Diana believe those in her inner circle were being paid off by the tabloids.

A graphic artist working for the BBC said he had been asked by Bashir to produce fake bank statements that were then shown to Diana's brother.

The Dyson report claimed this was a trick to gain Earl Spencer's confidence, so he would introduce the journalist to Diana.

Lord Dyson's inquiry found that Bashir likely used “deception” to secure the interview and then lied about it to his BBC managers.

Bashir won Britain's highest TV honour for the interview.

However, in the newly-released emails, Bashir blamed “professional jealousy” for the controversy surrounding the way he secured the interview and denied using the false documents to gain the trust of Diana or her brother Earl Spencer.

Nevertheless, the report said Bashir "lied and maintained the lie until he realised that it was no longer sustainable".

"This was most reprehensible behaviour which casts considerable doubt on his credibility generally," Lord Dyson said.

Bashir has previously said mocking up the documents "was a stupid thing to do" and he regretted it, but that they had no bearing on the paranoid royal's decision to be interviewed.

Diana was likely paranoid at the time of the Panorama sit down

In another email, the journalist wrote that he suspected his class background and race played a role in the scrutiny over the BAFTA-winning sit down.

"I am sorry to hear that this so-called 'forgery' story has reared its head again,” Bashir wrote.

“It played no part in the interview but did allow professional jealousy, particularly within the corporation, to hang its hat on alleged wrongdoing.

"At the time, it was also apparent that there was some irritation that a second-generation immigrant of non-white, working class roots should have the temerity to enter a Royal Palace and conduct an interview.”......

Mohamed Al Fayeds' daughter has been charged with robbery after allegedly ordering her bodyguards to steal her brothers' phone at the tycoons' Surrey mansion.

Camilla Fayed, 39, her Syrian businessman husband, Mohamed Esreb, 43, and their close protection officers - decorated Afghanistan veteran Matthew Littlewood, 34, and Andrew Bott, 51 - are accused of conspiring to steal a £1,900 iPhone belonging to Omar Fayed.

The robbery is said to have happened in the gym of Barrow Green Court, the family's sprawling Grade-I listed estate in Oxted, Surrey.

All four defendants were charged with a single count of robbery in December after a lengthy police investigation, with the incident said to have taken place on May 18, 2020.

No pleas have been entered yet and all defendants were released on bail.

Mr Esreb appeared alone at Guildford Crown Court on Wednesday for a hearing.

He entered the dock wearing a dark shirt and trousers, where the court heard that he is yet to secure legal representation. His wife is being represented by Gudrun Young KC, a 'highly sought after barrister' whose previous clients include a number of celebrities.

Asked if he had lawyers to aid him in the case, Mr Esreb said it was between two firms he knew. Judge Patricia Lees ordered to find a solicitor by next Friday.

After abandoning a career as a fashion entrepreneur by selling her label, Issa, to House of Fraser in 2017, Ms Al-Fayed opened Farmacy, an upmarket Vegan restaurant in Notting Hill that counts Madonna and Stella McCartney among its patrons.

Corporal Matthew Littlewood, her bodyguard and co-accused, was awarded a Brigadier's Commendation for Distinguished Service for his service across three tours of Afghanistan, where he led a reconnaissance team tasked with uncovering Taliban weapons caches and capturing 'high-value targets'.

His CV says that he offers 'discreet and overt close protection and protective surveillance for an ultra high net worth family'.

It adds that he can 'easily navigate busy central London traffic', and is capable of 'liaising with high-end restaurant and club managers in London and abroad'.

Mr Al-Fayed was killed at the age of 94 by a heart attack last August on the eve of the 26th anniversary of his son, Dodi's, death alongside Diana, Princess of Wales, in a Paris car accident.

He is interred next to Dodi in a mausoleum on the Oxted estates' grounds.
