Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has confirmed the hit BBC crime drama will conclude with a film following the show's final TV series.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has confirmed the hit BBC crime drama will conclude with a film following the show's final TV series.

On Monday, Knight said the upcoming sixth series would be the last but teased that "the story will continue in another form".

He has now confirmed to Deadline: "My plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie.

"This is what is going to happen," he added.

He explained that "Covid had changed our plans" but did not elaborate.

The final BBC TV series has resumed filming after being hit by Covid-related production delays.

On Monday, Knight described the show as being "back with a bang" and warned fans that the mobsters would face "extreme jeopardy" in the sixth season.

Knight had previously planned for a seven-season run of the drama, which is set in post-World War One Birmingham.

"My ambition is to make it a story of a family between two wars," he said in 2018 ahead of season five. "I've wanted to end it with the first air raid siren in Birmingham in 1939. It'll take three more series to reach that point."

It now looks like the film might be replacing his plan for series seven.

Knight, an Oscar-nominated screenwriter, previously revealed he had been "approached" to take the Shelby crime family universe to the big-screen.

The sixth series of the show, which follows Tommy Shelby and his family, will see Anthony Byrne return as director and Nick Goding produce.

Tommy Bulfin, executive producer for the BBC, said he was "very excited" filming had begun and promised a "truly remarkable... fitting send-off that will delight fans".

He added he was "so grateful to everyone for all their hard work to make it happen".

Helen McCrory has died unexpectedly at the age of 52.

The talented British actress, who starred as Peaky Blinders matriarch Aunt Polly and as Clair Dowar in the 2012 James Bond film Skyfall, died suddenly.

In a heartbreaking statement confirming her death, her husband Damian Lewis wrote:

"I'm heartbroken to announce that after a heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family."

He added: "She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you."

Helen had been married to fellow actor Damian since 2007 and shared two children with him - daughter Manon, 14, and 13-year-old son Gulliver.

Her last public appearance was on March 12's episode of Good Morning Britain, in which she and Homeland star Damian spoke about their charity work.

She sparked questions from fans at the time after Kate Garraway pointed out she sounded croaky-voiced.

She recently appeared in a string of TV shows in 2020, including Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? drama Quiz, political thriller Roadkill, and was the voice of Stelmaria in His Dark Materials.

Helen was awarded an OBE in the 2017 honours list for services to drama.

Peaky Blinders and Emmerdale actor Toby Kirkup died aged 48 after being sent home from hospital, an inquest has heard.

Toby was sent home from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on August 29 2020, but died at home alone after suffering from a heart attack.What happened to Peaky Blinders actor Toby Kirkup?

During an inquest into his death at a court in Bradford, those present heard that Toby had been suffering chest pains and tingling in his arm.

After going to hospital he was diagnosed with gastritis.

But, when he got home his symptoms worsened. He began to vomit, which led to a cardiac arrest.

The post-mortem concluded that Toby died from natural causes.Coroners officer Catherine Toner told assistant coroner Katy Dickenson that Toby had also been dealing with drug and alcohol issues.

But, despite a verdict of death by natural causes, the court heard that his family have concerns about the treatment Toby received.

The inquest has been adjourned until September 30.

The Shelbys are headed to the big screen, after Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight confirmed that the feature film will go into production in 2023.

The upcoming sixth season of the BBC drama, starring Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby, is also set to be Peaky Blinders’ last, followed by the long-rumoured Peaky Blinders feature film.

Speaking at the BFI London Film Festival, Knight told Variety that the film will begin filming in 2023.

“I am going to write the feature which will be set in and shot in Birmingham,” Knight said. “And that will probably be the sort of the end of the road for ‘Peaky Blinders’ as we know it.”

He also confirmed that there could be spin-offs “related” to the Peaky Blinders world, which is a sentiment he’s expressed previously.

Speaking to BirminghamLive, Knight previously said there may be future series that could work without lead character Tommy Shelby.

“In the form it is in, it is absolutely impossible for this to work without Cillian,” he said, but added: “Who knows? There may be worlds that are part of the Peaky world that are about someone else.”

However, speaking to Variety, Knight clarified that he might “pass on the baton” when it comes to shepherding any spin-off serie

Despite the fact he quickly became one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood in the early 2000's, it was Cillian's triumphant performance as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders that earned him global notoriety and fame.

The Irish actor has starred as Shelby in the BBC series about a criminal gang in Birmingham during the post-World War I period since 2013.

"It’s the end of 10 years of my life; with many colleagues and people. A great adventure that I have become very close with."

"I'm always happy to chat," Cillian admitted.

"What I don't like is people surreptitiously taking photographs, which someone said is like the amateur Stasi.

Cillian has long struggled with his fame, admitting that he can't help but feel embarrassed by it sometimes.

“There are doctors and nurses and f**king people that work. I struggle with that. I mean, actors are overpaid, you know?

“It’s nice when you get paid, when you’re young, and you’ve gone from having no money, but the Catholic guilt kicks in immediately, and I’m like ‘It’s all going to go wrong. You don’t deserve this’. And I don’t.”

Much like his personal life, Cillian has been on a mission to keep his family out of the public eye.

Cillian has been married to his wife Yvonne McGuinness since 2004, after the pair met at one of his rock band's shows in 1996 before he stepped into the world of acting.

The lovebirds, who are rarely photographed together, live in Dublin with their two sons, Malachy, 16, and Aran, 14.

He told GQ magazine last year: “That work-life-balance thing is hard. I have an amazing wife and I couldn’t do this without her and her understanding. But it is a struggle.

“I think it is for any dad whose work takes him away, which it generally does, and which consumes him, which my work does.”

With not much known about their relationship, Cillian recently gave fans a rare glimpse into the couple's family life.

Sharing some insight into his 'normal' life away from the silver screen, the actor explained: "We cook, we watch movies, we listen to music.

"I was vegetarian for a long time then I relapsed and now I've relapsed back to vegetarianism.

"My wife is, too. It's so unremarkable. It's not a good copy."

Real Accent

Since landing the part of Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders, Cillian's 'real accent' has baffled fans.

The talented actor has never lost his authentic Cork accent, but his character portrayal of Shelby means he has adapted a strong Birmingham accent for the role.

Despite the fact that he's received critical acclaim for his 'spot on' dulcet tones, some Brummie folk have previously slammed his accent, claiming it's not authentic to how people speak in Birmingham these days.

Steven Knight helped him to perfect the accent.

The Irishman, said: “I hung out with Steve, and we went to the actual Garrison pub in Birmingham with his Brummie mates.

“And we’re just drinking Guinness there, and they’re singing Birmingham City songs and telling all sorts of stories, and I was recording on my iPhone, and then I took that home, and used it to try and track the accents, you know.

“And then I would call Steve and just leave voicemails on his phone in the accent and see how close I was to it.”

The actor also has huge issues with fans taking photos of him without asking while he's going about his everyday life whether that be in Dublin, London, or LA. "I'm always happy to chat," Cillian admitted. "What I don't like is people surreptitiously taking photographs, which someone said is like the amateur Stasi. The actor has a real issue with fans taking pictures of him without asking "It's so f***g weird. I've been sat on the tube and people have started filming me. "I don't want to be like, 'poor f*g celebrities', that is not what I'm trying to say. I'm very happy and privileged and all of that. Real Accent Since landing the part of Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders, Cillian's 'real accent' has baffled fans. The talented actor has never lost his authentic Cork accent, but his character portrayal of Shelby means he has adapted a strong Birmingham accent for the role. Despite the fact that he's received critical acclaim for his 'spot on' dulcet tones, some Brummie folk have previously slammed his accent, claiming it's not authentic to how people speak in Birmingham these days. Cillian perfected his Brummie accent with the help of Birmingham City fans However, Cillian insisted that the way in which his character speaks is true to the time the drama was set. Ahead of the final season, the actor has revealed how Birmingham City fans played a part in helping him to develop his Birmingham accent in the gangster show. Speaking to the Radio Times, the TV star revealed that a trip to the actual Garrison pub in Small Heath with the show’s creator Steven Knight helped him to perfect the accent.
