The man, aged in his 40s, arrived in Weymouth, Dorset in September and police are still struggling to find his identity, despite appeals and involving Interpol. He has an Eastern European accent and it is believed his first language is Latvian, according to investigating officers involved in the case. When he was first found he was wearing a black motorcycle helmet with no visor and two pairs of suit trousers. "However, we have still been unable to confirm an identity for this man and he has not been able to tell us who he is or provide any information about where he is from or his family. "When he was found he had long, curly matted brown hair and a long brown beard. “He speaks with an Eastern European accent, and it is believed his first language is Latvian." Several people have shared speculation on the stranger, with some believing he is an immigrant while others believe he may have dementia or a brain injury. Another added: "How sad. The man's body was found in the Leeds & Liverpool Canal near Bramley Fall Woods in Leeds, West Yorkshire on Sunday, January 15. Officers say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death but they don't know who he is, so are unable to trace his relatives. An artist impression of the man has been released by detectives of what they believe to be his likeness. He has been described as an elderly white man, who is bald, with white hair on both sides and stubble on his face. He was wearing a beige jacket, beige trousers, a green and brown checked shirt, a blue diamond pattern jumper, brown shoes and a beige scarf and gloves. Officers also recovered a gold metal Eterna Matic 1000 wristwatch, a 30-year-old A-Z map book and a set of keys with a Spanish keyring, advertising 1990s cigarette brand Terrano. Detective chief inspector James Entwistle said: “We believe the artist’s impression is a good likeness of the man and, alongside his clothing and personal items, we are hoping someone will recognise him. “We are keen to identify him to support to the coronial process and to trace any next of kin there may be.” |
