Russia Threatens Nuclear Clash as Putins' Right-Hand Man Sends WW3 Warning to US

Putin Forming Axis of Terror as He Welcomes Hamas & Iran to Moscow

Moussa Abu Marzook, a senior Hamas leader, was among the delegation to Russia

Putin sought to intervene in the Middle Eastern conflict on Thursday by inviting senior Hamas and Iranian leaders to Moscow.

In a move condemned by Israel as an “obscene step” that “gives support to terrorism”, Russian officials met with the terror group who praised them for taking an “active role” in the war.

Ali Bagheri Kani, the deputy foreign minister of Iran, the main foreign sponsor of Hamas, was also in Moscow for talks.

The developments have raised concern in the West that Russia has formed an “axis of terror” with Hamas, mediated by Iran.

Hamas praised Putin personally for his “stance” on the conflict and “acknowledged the active role of Russian diplomacy” in talks over “the recent Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and strategies to halt the Israeli crimes”.

https://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/...=91&s=587&d=99

A photograph released by Hamas showed Bassem Naeem, its head of international relations, and Mousa Abu Marzouk, a senior member of the Hamas politburo, in a meeting with Mikhail Bogdanov, Putins’ special envoy in the Middle East.

Western observers said the meetings suggested Putin had abandoned his long-standing alliance with Israel in favour of closer ties with Iran and its Islamist allies, who carried out the Oct 7 terror attacks on Israel and have stepped up a bombing campaign on American troops in the wider Middle East.

Lioir Hiat, a spokesman for the Israeli foreign ministry, said Israel “sees the invitation of senior Hamas officials to Moscow as an obscene step that gives support to terrorism and legitimises the atrocities of Hamas terrorists”.

Speaking at the United Nations on Thursday, Iran’s foreign minister said the country was willing to “play its part” in securing the release of Hamas’s hostages, but called for an exchange with 6,000 Palestinians held by Israel.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran stands ready to play its part in this very important humanitarian endeavour, along with Qatar and Turkey,” he said.

“Naturally, the release of the 6,000 Palestinian prisoners is another necessity and responsibility of the global community.”

Both Russia and China have stopped short of condemning Hamas, and have called for a ceasefire that United States officials say would allow Hamas to rest and regroup for a second assault.

On Thursday Maya Yaron, Israel’s de facto ambassador to Taiwan, reiterated her government’s disappointment with China for not condemning Hamas’s attacks against civilians.

“This is actually something that is very disturbing with China,” she told reporters in Taipei.

However, Israeli leaders have said they intend to press on with a land offensive against Hamas, launching a raid in northern Gaza in an attempt to prepare the territory for a full-scale invasion.

Footage from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) showed tanks, other armoured vehicles and bulldozers crossing into the besieged enclave and appearing to open fire.

An IDF statement said the brief “targeted raid” was part of “preparations for the next stage of combat,” while Yoav Gallant, the Israeli defence minister, said that a full-scale ground invasion of Gaza was “not far off”.

Ukraine War: Whole Family Shot Dead by Russian Soldiers in Russian-Occupied Ukrainian Town.

Nine people, including two young children, have been found shot dead in their house in the Russian-occupied eastern Ukrainian town of Volnovakha.

Ukrainian officials say they believe Russian soldiers killed the whole of the Kapkanets family on 27 October for refusing to give them their house.

Russian investigators say two male suspects have been held, saying they are Russian soldiers from the Far East.

Most of the town has been destroyed.

Ukraine and Russia have begun separate investigations into the attack.

Photographs have emerged on social media showing blood-splattered and bullet-riddled bodies lying in beds, some of them still locked in an embrace.

Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said on Monday that "Russians' bloodied hands were involved" in the Volnovakha killings.

"According to preliminary information, the occupiers have killed the whole of the Kapkanets family, who were celebrating a birthday and who had refused to hand their own house over to occupiers from Chechnya," he said on Telegram.

The Ukrainian-controlled Donetsk prosecutor's office, citing preliminary information, said the attackers in army uniforms shot the family dead after their demand to vacate the house had been rejected.

Two children, born in 2014 and 2018, were among the victims, the office added.

Russia's official Investigations Committee described those arrested as Russian soldiers from the country's Far East, who had signed contracts with the Russian military.

"According to preliminary information, the motive for the crime was a domestic conflict," the committee said in a statement.

Astra, a Russian news channel on Telegram, earlier quoted the victims' neighbours as blaming the Russian military for the killings.

"All of the neighbours are saying that the killers were in the military. We're all scared," one neighbour told Astra.

Baza, another Russian Telegram channel, said members of the household had had "a conflict with unidentified men wearing military fatigues with no insignia".

Volnovakha was captured by Russian forces just weeks after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The killings in Volnovakha come as fierce fighting continues on the vast battle front of Ukraine's eastern and southern regions.

Kyiv launched its counter-offensive in June, trying to split the occupying Russian troops in the southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions in two, and make their resupply more difficult.

So far, the Ukrainian advance has been slow and costly, as the Russians have had time to prepare their defensive lines.

In recent weeks, Moscow has also been on the attack near the key city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region, as well as Kupyansk in the north-eastern Kharkiv region.

Ukraine's military says all Moscow's attacks have been "unsuccessful", reporting heavy Russian casualties around Avdiivka - a gateway to the Russian-held regional capital of Donetsk.

World War 3 Fears as Putin Puppet Warns Germany Will Eventually Exist Under Russian Flag

Ukraine Special Forces Destroy $125M Russian Radar Using HIMARS

BBC 6 NOV 2023

Vladimir Solovyov, a close ally of Vladimir Putin, made his latest controversial claims during his show on a Kremlin-controlled television channel.

Vladimir Putin's close ally has astonishingly claimed Germany will eventually exist "under a Russian flag" in an unhinged rant that will explode fears over a possible World War 3.

Ukrainian special forces destroyed Russian radar worth $125m with HIMARS. Elite units posted drone footage documenting their kills of Zoopark-1 radar. The Soviet system is designed to detect incoming enemy artillery fire and pinpoint the guns that fired the shells so they can be destroyed.

However, the radar themselves were targeted by precision rockets. With footage showing five of them being blown up by Ukrainian HIMARS.

Such radar systems are expensive to build, and difficult to replace. Taking them out helps level the playing field between Russia and Ukraine.

Russia-Ukraine War: Putin Likely Successor WARNS of Ukraine Biological Warfare and Hints at New Mobilisation

Putin Ally: West Increasing Risk of Weapons of Mass Destruction Being Used

BBC 20 NOV 2023

Putin and Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of Russian Security Council, pictured in 2019

Security council secretary Nikolai Patrushev, 72, who is Russias' top security official, is often pegged as the most likely man to succeed Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin

Russias top security official today warned of biological warfare and ordered regional governors to put their economies on a war footing.

Security council secretary Nikolai Patrushev, 72, is seen by some as Vladimir Putin’s likely successor. A strong anti-Western hardliner, he claimed that the conflict in Ukraine could see biological warfare while also suggesting a new round of mobilisation in Russia after heavy losses of conscripts.

“Unauthorised access to collections of dangerous pathogens, destruction and looting of laboratory premises, as well as loss of biological samples, cannot be ruled out….” He warned of Ukraine infecting refugees who travel from war-ravaged areas to Russia.

"The likelihood of committing terrorist acts and sabotage attacks using biological agents has increased”, he said. Critics say Patrushev - seen as wielding huge control in the Kremlin - is deliberately spreading paranoia, and could even signal a Russian false flag plan to use bio-weapons.

Patrushev repeated Moscow's conspiracy theories that the United States has been trying to develop "artificial pathogens and microorganisms" in laboratories set up in Russia's neighbouring countries, including Ukraine.

"Taking into account the risks and threats to biological security, I ask regional heads in cooperation with the federal executive authorities to ensure, first of all, that biologically dangerous facilities be protected against terrorists.”

Russia needed a “sanitary shield”, he said. "It is necessary to develop a system for monitoring biological risks, preventing and eliminating biological threats, and neutralising the fallout from their use.”

He demanded officials “ensure the work of the necessary number of radiation and chemical monitoring stations of civil defence facilities in the regions”. Russia must “expand the production of domestic vaccines and drugs against infections”, he insisted in a speech in Voronezh.

Patrushev - formerly head of the FSB security service - demanded more action from border regions to protect Russia against drone attacks from Ukraine. Regional governors must ensure that mobilisation plans for the economy of the Russian regions and municipalities are developed”.

This is seen as a strong hint that a new wave of mobilisation is coming. "I ask the heads of regions and federal executive authorities to personally control the implementation of these tasks,” he said.

“Specific attention should be paid to the safety of bio-hazardous facilities.”

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incomin...2west-news.jpg

Putin was briefly seen today chairing a security council meeting but it was Patrushev who cranked up fears among Russians and Ukrainian and Western biological threats.

"There is a high probability of the Ukrainian side completely losing control over biological facilities,” he said.

NATO Standards in Former Warsaw Pact Countries

Summary

Ukraine will become a member of Nato subject to reforms after the war, the military alliance’s secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, has said. Nato states still agreed that full membership remained impossible in the midst of war, even while ways to move Ukraine and Nato closer continued, he added.

The Nato secretary-general said that some of the most intense fighting of the war has taken place in recent weeks in the east of Ukraine. Russian forces have made confirmed advances north-west and south-east of Avdiivka over the weekend, according to the US-based Institute for the Study of War.

The UK ministry of defence has described as “plausible” Ukrainian estimates of Russian casualties running at a daily average of almost 1,000 in November. This would, on the face of it, make November 2023 one of the most difficult months for Russian forces, with many of its losses coming from its assault on Avdiivka – although figures on Ukrainian losses were not provided.

'I Need MORE Troops' -Deranged Putin Orders Russian Women to Have Eight or More Children

Vladimir Putin told Russian women they needed to be having 'eight or more children' as his war in Ukraine worsens a dive in the population and makes them reluctant to start new families

BBC 29 NOV 2023

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incomin...2635429159.jpg

The huge country of 143.4 million people has seen a huge dive in birth rates over recent years - with the president's disastrous invasion of Ukraine blamed for putting off even more people from having kids.

And with an estimated over 100,000 troops now dead since fighting started, he is now demanding that Russians go back to the tsarist era, when large families were more common. Putin himself is believed to have at least six children to three different partners - although he only publicly admits to two daughters.

In a controversial new video, he instructed Russians to give birth to more children - and promised they would get state support for “motherhood”. Putin said: “Thank God many of our people have a tradition of a strong multi-generational family, raising four, five and more children.

Let us remember how in Russian families many of our grandmothers and great grandmothers had seven, eight, or even more children. Let's preserve and revive these wonderful traditions. Having many children, a large family, should become a norm, a way of life for all the peoples of Russia. A family is not just the foundation for state and society, it is a spiritual phenomenon, the source of morality.”

He added that "support for family, motherhood, childhood should cover the work of all areas of government "without exception", with economic, social, infrastructure policies, education and health care among the areas where the principle would be applied. His plea follows a 555,000 fall in the Russian population in the first year of Putin’s war, with many families now too nervous to start or increase their families as more men are sent off to the front line.

Russia's crashing economy also discourages families from having children, according to demographers. The average number of babies per woman is currently 1.42 - well below the replacement rate of 2.1. His country is also making abortions harder to get, with several regions banning them in private clinics.

Ukraines' Secret Service Assassinated Illya Kyva, Ex-MP Traitor in Russia After He Supported The War

Illya Kyva was kicked out of parliament and defected to Russia weeks after Moscow launched its military offensive last year and has now been assassinated by Ukraine

Ilya Kyva, who claimed Volodymyr Zelensky was an MI6 stooge..The former Ukrainian MP has been assassinated in Russia by Ukraine for being a traitor

https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014...rroristic_.jpg

Moment Russian sabotage cell was captured by Ukrainian secret service

Illya Kyva was shot dead in the village of Suponevo, to the west of Moscow, after he called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a cocaine addict. The man was a Kremlin propagandist and one of Putin's puppets, who appeared obediently on state TV shows and had alleged Zelensky was an MI6 stooge.

A source in Ukraine's defence sector told AFP that its SBU security services had orchestrated the assassination of the man who was kicked out of parliament and defected to Russia weeks after Moscow launched its military offensive last year.

Andriy Yusov, a spokesman for Ukraine’s military intelligence, said in televised remarks that Kyva was "done", adding that "the same fate will befall other traitors of Ukraine and accomplices of Putin’s regime." He said: "We can confirm that Kyva is done. Such a fate will befall other traitors of Ukraine, as well as the henchmen of the Putin regime." Yusov also called Kyva "one of the biggest scumbags, traitors and collaborators" and said his death was "justice."

Before going over to the Russian side, Kyva had fought against Moscow-backed separatist rebels in Ukraine’s eastern region of Donetsk and was elected to parliament in 2019. Since his flight to Moscow, Kyva was a frequent participant in talk shows on Russian state television during which he blasted the Ukrainian leadership.

Last month, a court in Ukraine sentenced him to 14 years in prison in absentia on charges of treason. Kyva’s killing follows a slew of other attacks on prominent war supporters in Russia. In August 2022, Darya Dugina, the daughter of Russian nationalist ideologist Alexander Dugin, died in a car bomb explosion outside Moscow.

Meanwhile, intensifying Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy facilities are worsening humanitarian conditions across the war-torn country, where heavy snow and freezing temperatures have already arrived, UN officials said Wednesday.

Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenca told the UN Security Council that Russia’s continuing daily attacks on Ukraine’s critical civilian infrastructure have resulted in civilian casualties, and Moscow recently escalated its barrages in populated areas including the capital, Kyiv.

He said: "All attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure must stop immediately. They are prohibited under international humanitarian law and are simply unacceptable." Jenca also raised the risks to all four of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants.

The Zaporizhzhia plant, which is Europe’s largest, suffered its eighth complete off-site power outage since the invasion on Saturday, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Jenca said. Ramesh Rajasingham, the UN humanitarian coordinator, told the council "The deaths, injuries and level of destruction of vital civilian infrastructure is staggering."

After more than 21 months of fighting since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Rajasingham said, "millions of children, women and men are now faced with the prospect of yet another winter of severe hardship amid the impact of increased attacks on hospitals, electricity transmission systems, and gas and water supplies."

HUGE Explosions Injuring 53 as Russia Bomb Kyiv Childrens' Hospital

Fallen debris from Russian ballistic missiles injured at least 53 people in Ukraine including children as a paediatric hospital and an apartment building were hit in the blast

Ukraines’ capital was hit by a huge ballistic missile attack early this morning, injuring over 50 people and damaging an apartment building and a children's hospital, the mayor said.

The Ukrainian air force said Russia launched 10 ballistic missiles at Kyiv and all were intercepted by air defences. But fallen debris fell in the eastern Dniprovskyi district, injuring at least 53 people, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on the Telegram messaging app.

Twenty people, including two children, were hospitalised while 33 people received medical treatment on the spot. An apartment building, a private house and several cars caught fire, while the windows of a children's hospital were shattered, Klitschko said. Falling rocket debris also damaged the water supply system in the district.

Also on Monday, a Russian missile attack destroyed several homes on the outskirts of Kyiv and left more than 100 households temporarily without electricity. As winter sets in and hampers troop movements, Ukrainian officials have warned that Russia will target energy infrastructure to cause power outages and blackouts like it did last winter.

While the worlds' attention is elsewhere, Russian President Vladimir Putin is still raining hell on innocent Ukrainians. The bombardment came two days after another attack on Kyiv with ballistic missiles and attack drones.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had left for Washington earlier that day, hoping to rally waning American support for his country. Russia has often used Zelensky's visits abroad to launch waves of major attacks.

U.S. Aid to Ukraine: Biden Cautions Congress Against Giving Putin Greatest Christmas Gift They Could Possibly Give..

Republicans Have Balked at The US Providing Additional Help For Ukraine

BBC 14 DEC 2023

American President, Joe Biden, has called on Congress not to give Russian dictator Vladimir Putin a "gift" and to approve aid to Ukraine before Congress goes on holiday, says President Biden at a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Biden emphasized that Congress should pass additional funding for Ukraine before they take a break for the holiday season.

"Congress needs to pass the supplemental funding for Ukraine before they break for the holiday recess. Before they give Putin the greatest Christmas gift they could possibly give him," the U.S. President stated.

It is worth noting that the funds allocated for military aid to Ukraine from the United States are running out. In light of this, President Joe Biden has requested over $100 billion from Congress, including over $60 billion for Ukraine.

Putin is 'Suffering' From 87 Per Cent Troop Losses...:clapper::clapper:

Russia Has Lost 87% of Troops it Had Prior to Start of Ukraine War

Russia has lost a staggering 87 percent of the total number of active-duty ground troops it had prior to launching its invasion of Ukraine and two-thirds of its pre-invasion tanks, a source familiar with a declassified US intelligence assessment provided to Congress told CNN.

Still, despite heavy losses of men and equipment, Russian President Vladimir Putin is determined to push forward as the war approaches its two-year anniversary early next year and US officials are warning that Ukraine remains deeply vulnerable. A highly anticipated Ukrainian counteroffensive stagnated through the fall, and US officials believe that Kyiv is unlikely to make any major gains over the coming months.

The assessment, sent to Capitol Hill on Monday, comes as some Republicans have balked at the US providing additional funding for Ukraine and the Biden administration has launched a full-court press to try to get supplemental funding through Congress.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is in Washington on Tuesday, meeting with US lawmakers and President Joe Biden in desperate bid to secure the military and economic aid he says is vital to Ukraine’s ability to maintain the fight against Russia.

Revealed: GOP Congress Backers of Gaza War Received Most $$$$ From PRO-Israel DONORS

Guardian analysis finds top recipients of PRO-Israel contributions in last elections were centrists who defeated progressives in primaries

The Guardian 11 JAN 2024

Congress members who were more supportive of Israel at the start of the Gaza war received over $100,000 more on average from pro-Israel donors during their last election than those who most supported Palestine, a Guardian analysis of campaign data shows.

Those who took more money most often called for US military support and backed Israel’s response, even as Gaza’s civilian death toll mounted, the findings show. The analysis, which looks at positions taken during the war’s first six weeks, does not prove any particular member changed their position because they received pro-Israel campaign donations.

However, some campaign finance experts who viewed the data argue that donor spending helped fuel Congress’s overwhelming support for Israel.

The analysis compared campaign contributions from pro-Israel groups and individuals to almost every member of the current Congress with each lawmaker’s statements on the war through mid-November.

About 82% of GOP Congress members were more supportive of Israel, and just 9% more supportive of Palestine during this period. The remainder had “mixed” views.

Legislators categorized as supportive of Israel received about $125,000 on average during their last election, while those supportive of Palestine on average took about $18,000.
The volume and breadth of the donors’ spending is considerable: over $58m went to current Congress members, and all but 33 received donations.

The mayor of a southern Russian city near the border with Ukraine has declared a state of emergency after what officials said was a Kyiv-launched drone attack that damaged several buildings and wounded a child.

Vadim Kstenin, the mayor of Voronezh City, claimed that nearly three dozen apartments had been damaged in a drone attack overnight.

Russian news outlet Shot reported on Telegram that at least 15 blasts were heard near an air base just outside the city, while some drone debris fell nearby onto an apartment building. Footage posted by the governor of Voronezh (pictured below) has since appeared to show that building.

The Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) claimed they destroyed five drones in the region, which is roughly 170 miles from the border with Ukraine, and intercepted three more.

“I ask Voronezh residents not to worry - we are introducing a state of emergency so that we can quickly make decisions,” wrote Kstenin. The governor of the region, Alexander Gusev, claimed an 11-year-old girl was injured in the attack.

Ukraine has not commented on the strike. The air base near Voronezh City is known host to some Sukhoi Su-34s bombers, according to Russian media. The Kremlin often deploys fighter-bomber aircraft during air strikes...

Latest: Kyiv To Throw Moscow 'From The Skies’ After More Drone Strikes by Putins’ Forces

Russia claimed that Ukraine fired at least 12 drones across the border, targeting the Voronezh and Belgorod regions

Ukraines’ priority for 2024 is to “throw Russia from the skies”, Kyiv’s top diplomat has said, after the Kremlin fired nearly two dozen drones and missiles over the border.

“In 2024, of course the priority is to throw Russia from the skies,” Dmytryo Kuleba, Ukraine’s foreign minister, told a conference in Davos, Switzerland. “Because the one who controls the skies will define when and how the war will end.”

His comments augur the arrival of the first batch of F-16 fighter jets in Ukraine later this year, which Kyiv has been requesting since the start of the war.

Kyiv views these fighter jets as the key to unlocking air superiority over the Russians, which in turn, they believe, could prove invaluable to their aims to remove Kremlin forces from Ukraine.

It comes as at least 20 civilians have been injured after Russia fired nearly two dozen drones and missiles across Ukraine, according to local officials.

Ukraines interior minister Ihor Klymenko reported that it had been “a difficult night for Odessa and Kharkiv”, cities in the south and north east of Ukraine respectively.

Two were killed and 13 hospitalised

A blistering Armageddon attack by Vladimir Putin on Ukraine saw a gas pipeline explode in Kharkiv and residential buildings hit in Kyiv.

There were distressing reports of civilian casualties after Russia deployed its strategic missile aircraft to unleash missiles onto cities. A total of three dead and 13 wounded were reported across Ukraine, amid fears the numbers would rise. Nine were reported wounded in Kyiv where black smoke rose over the skyline with a residential building hit, and one was killed in a separate missile strike on Pavlohrad.

*Kyiv was rocked by 10 thunderous explosions. Kharkiv faced at least seven explosions with power lost in a number of districts. A multi-storey residential building in Kharkiv was completely destroyed as a result of Russian missile fire. Two were reported killed, 13 wounded hospitalised including a girl, 10. Children were reported with shrapnel wounds. Two women were in serious condition.

Rescuers were removing the rubble, where people might be trapped, the local authorities reported. Explosions were also reported in the Sumy region, Dnepropetrovsk region and Zhitomyr.

In Kyiv’s Svyatoshinsky district, a building and cars were on fire, and there were claims of debris hitting a kindergarten. In Solomensky district, windows in an apartment building were smashed by a blast wave. One victim was hospitalised.

In Pechersky district, a non-residential building was hit. Emergency services were at the scene. At least eight were hospitalised in Kyiv. A Kh-101 missile was seen firing heat traps during a strike on Kyiv.

Kyiv mayor Vitalii Klitchko said: “An unexploded warhead of a rocket was found in one of the apartments in a residential building in Sviatoshynsky district. People are being evacuated from the house.”

Dramatic video shows an out-of-control Ilyushin Il-76 plunging from the sky and smashing into the ground in front of horrified locals in the Belgorod region near Ukraine's border yesterday.

Russia said that the 65 POWs, six Russian crew and three escorts on board were all killed in the deadly plane crash. Hours after the tragedy, both Russia and Ukraine quickly pinned the blame on one another.

Without providing evidence Moscow accused Ukraine of killing its own POWs, while Kyiv demanded an international inquiry and called for full clarification of the circumstances of the incident.

President Zelensky, in his evening address, said: 'It is clear that the Russians are playing with the lives of Ukrainian prisoners, the feelings of their loved ones and the emotions of our society.'

Vladimir Putin Set to Simulate Nuclear Explosions With New Secret Technology. Putin Threatens West in a Rare Visit to Kaliningrad

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to utilise his secret new technology in huge military drills to simulate nuclear explosions, as the war in Ukraine marches on

Calm President Biden to Vladimir Putin on Threat of Nuclear War: 'DONT'

MailOnline 27 JAN 2024

https://static01.nyt.com/images/2020...ebookJumbo.jpg

Vladimir Putin is set to utilise his new technology to simulate nuclear war, according to reports.

The Russian President has developed a new method to mimic an incoming atomic bomb, and will consequently stage several military drills. The latest news comes amid his nation threatening to take the violence in Ukraine up a level by engaging in nuclear war.

Experts have declared that Khrulev Military Academy in St Petersburg is responsible for creating the technology which can simulate the mushroom cloud impact that nuclear explosions are renowned for.

According to state news agency, ITAR_TASS, the patent document claims: “The purpose of the model is to simulate what a nuclear strike looks like - the shock effect, flash of light and the mushroom cloud of a ground-based nuclear explosion.”

*The Moscow Times reported that the invention will be utilised to: "Train radiation, chemical and biological intelligence units to determine the parameters of the epicentre of a nuclear explosion."

Fearing the potential consequences of nuclear war, the International Institue for Strategic Studies warns of Russia's potential readiness to deploy non-strategic or tactical - nuclear weapons. Their report claimed:

"A particularly troubling trend from a Western perspective is Russia’s belief in its ability to achieve and maintain dominance in an escalating environment, and to compensate for losses of personnel and equipment to a degree unimaginable to the West.

“In its war on Ukraine, Russia has used direct nuclear signalling to the US and NATO with its strategic and theatre nuclear forces. More recently, it has shown with Belarus that it sees NSNW [non-strategic nuclear weapons] as a useful tool to exert further control over its near-abroad and increase its coercive power against NATO.”

The report added: "The more that can be understood of Russian doctrine and military thought related to NSNW, the more likely it is that deterrence with Russia can be maintained. Understanding Russia and maintaining deterrence vis-*-vis Russia is a matter of survival for the West.”

Revoking Russia's ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, Putin is allegedly planning to restart atomic bomb testing in the Arctic, supposedly ordering defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, to imminently prepare to resume proceedings.

The notorious President is currently mocking the West with a major exhibition in Moscow. Putin is showcasing the most powerful bomb in human history - the infamous 50-megaton AN602 'Tsar Bomba'.

The massive statement is proof of the 71-year-old's defiance of the West, indicating that he will not let their concerns prevent him from restarting nuclear tests.

Supporting his longtime associate, the head of Kurchatov Nuclear Institute, Mikhail Kovalchuk, said: "I think this is a correct idea."

Secret EU Plan To Sabotage Hungarian Economy Revealed as Anger Mounts at Orbán

Hungarian Leader Viktor Orbán Refused to Green Light Funding to Help Finance Ukraines' Fight Against Russia

Brussels’ fury grows over Budapests’ ‘Policy of Blackmail’ in continuing to hold up £50bn support package For Ukraine

The Guardian 30 JAN 2024

https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/2bae6...0&dpr=1&s=none

The EU has tried to use funding as a tool to force Hungary into line on policies and the application of the rule of law.

Officials in Brussels have reportedly drawn up a secret plan to sabotage Hungary’s economy if Viktor Orbán decides this week to again block a €50bn support package for Ukraine.

The plan, reported by the Financial Times, reflects the fury mounting across European capitals at what one diplomat called the “policy of blackmail” being pursued by the Hungarian prime minister, who leads the bloc’s most pro-Russia state.

The FT said the strategy involved targeting Hungarys’ economy, weakening its currency and reducing investor confidence.

Orbán blocked the €50bn in Ukraine funds in December, forcing an emergency leaders meeting to be scheduled on Thursday to revisit the matter.

According to the FT, the document declares that “in the case of no agreement in the February 1 [summit], other heads of state and government would publicly declare that in the light of the unconstructive behaviour of the Hungarian PM  …  they cannot imagine that [EU funds would be provided to Budapest]”.

Sources on Monday said EU capitals were still hopeful of a deal with Orbán and see the leak as a high-risk political move that could backfire. The Hungarian currency, the forint, depreciated by 0.7% on Monday, briefly down to a low against the euro last seen in October.

Hungarys’ economy is heavily reliant on the single market, with nearly all its exports going across the border to neighbouring countries. According to European Commission data, intra-EU trade accounts for 78% of Hungary’s exports (Germany 28%, Romania, Slovakia, Austria and Italy all 5%), while 3% goes to the US and 3% to the UK.

The EU has already tried to use funds as a tool to force Hungary into line on policies and the application of the rule of law, a basic requirement of membership of the bloc; €20bn of funds are frozen over concerns about LGBTQ+ rights and other issues.

János Bóka, Hungary’s EU minister, told the FT that his country “does not give in to pressure” and there was no connection between Ukraine and general access to EU funds. “Hungary has and will continue to participate constructively in the negotiations,” he said.

On Monday he wrote on X: “The document, drafted by Brussels bureaucrats only confirms what the Hungarian government has been saying for a long time: access to EU funds is used for political blackmailing by Brussels.”

An EU source said: “The reality is Hungary has not really been flexible on this. The member state level of frustration is increasing. It is higher than in December.”

Ukraine sinks $70M Russian warship Ivanovets in the Black Sea using boat drones

Ukraines' armed forces claimed to have sunk another Russian warship using kamikaze attack drones in a formidable strike off the coastline of Crimea.

Footage shared by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence showed how its unmanned seafaring vessels bore down on the £55 million Black Sea missile ship Ivanovets.

The 184ft warship was hit by multiple drones off annexed Crimea and was reportedly sunk after suffering massive hull damage.

Ivanovets was in sea lake Donuzlav, a bay in the west of Crimea used for military vessels, when it came under attack.

The fate of the crew - who resisted the attack and shot at the drones - is not known.

Neither the Russian Ministry of Defence nor the Navy have officially confirmed the strike, but a slew of pro-war military channels on Telegram have corroborated Ukrainian reports.

As a result of a number of direct hits to the hull, the Russian ship received damage that was incompatible with further movement - the Ivanovets tilted to the stern and sank,' said Military Informant Telegram channel.

One reported: 'We must give credit to the crew. They fought to the last.

Russian soldiers load a rocket into a launcher on a mission at an undisclosed location in Ukraine in a photo released yesterday

The President said the Kremlin 'simply don't have any interest' in expanding the war in Ukraine and suggested such a conflict would 'bring all humanity to the brink of destruction'.

Putin made the comments in an interview with US talk show host Tucker Carlson, his first with a Western journalist since before Russia's invasion of Ukraine nearly two years ago.

He also claimed military defeat for his troops was 'impossible' in a remarkable two-hour sit down in which he also said Boris Johnson scuppered a deal to end the fighting 18 months ago.

Asked if he could imagine a scenario where his troops would be sent to Poland, Putin told Carlson: 'Only in one case, if Poland attacks Russia. We have no interest in Poland, Latvia or anywhere else.

'Why would we do that? We simply don't have any interest. It is absolutely out of the question.'

Vladimir Putin outrageously claimed last night that he was read to sign a deal to end the war with Ukraine 18 months ago but Boris Johnson scuppered the deal

Fears of WWIII were raised when Admiral Rob Bauer, the chairman of NATO's Military Committee urged both civilians and governments to prepare for cataclysmic conflicts and the chilling prospect of being conscripted.

'We have to realise it's not a given that we are in peace. And that's why we [NATO forces] have the plans, that's why we are preparing for a conflict with Russia,' Bauer told reporters last month after a meeting of NATO defence chiefs in Brussels.

'But the discussion is much wider. It is also the industrial base and also the people that have to understand they play a role.'

n a stark warning, he said civilians must be ready for a conflict in the next 20 years that would require wholesale change in their lives.

The governments of Estonia, Sweden and now the UK have already warned their respective nations that the prospect of large-scale war is on the horizon.

Putin outrageously claimed last night that he was ready to sign a deal to end the war with Ukraine a year asnd a half ago but Mr Johnson scuppered the deal.

He claimed the former Prime Minister 'dissuaded' the leader of Ukraine's leading party from signing the document and said it 'was better to fight Russia' in the interview with Carlson.

The Kremlin said Putin agreed to the interview because the approach of the former Fox News host 'differed from the one-sided reporting of the Ukraine conflict'.

The President was allowed to drone on unchallenged for long chunks of time as he gave a rambling history lesson about Russia dating back to the year 800.

He claimed that Davyd Arakhamia, the head of Ukraine's ruing party, put his 'preliminary signature' on the deal after direct negotiations with Russians in Istanbul.

Mr Putin said: 'But then he [Arakhamia] publicly stated to the whole world, we were ready to sign this document but Mr Johnson, then the Prime Minister, came and dissuaded us from doing this, saying it was better to fight Russia.

'They would give everything needed for us to return what was lost during the clashes with Russia. And we agreed with this proposal'.

Mr Putin went on: 'And the fact that they obey the demand or persuasion of Mr Johnson, the former Prime Minister of Great Britain, seems ridiculous.

'And it's very sad to me because, as Mr Arakhamia put it, we could have stopped those hostilities with war a year and a half ago already. But the British persuaded us and we refused this. Where is Mr Johnson now? And the war continues.'

He accused the US of telling Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to refuse to negotiate any deal and said he wanted to agree a settlement.

'And we made it [a deal],' he said.

'We prepared the huge document in Istanbul that was initialed by the head of the Ukrainian delegation. He had fixed his signature to some of the provisions, not to all of it. He put his signature and then he himself said, we were ready to sign it, and the war would have been over long ago. Eighteen months ago.

'However, Prime Minister Johnson came, talk to us out of it and we missed that chance. Well, you missed it. You made a mistake. Let them get back to that.'

The Kremlin has previously suggested Mr Johnson's trip to Kyiv in April 2022 as an intervention to derail any peace deal and would have seen Russia withdrawing its troops.

The deal would have seen Ukraine abandoning its plans to join Nato and accepting neutrality.

The British fighter is seen lying on the floor after being shot by the Russian soldier

New heart-stopping battleground footage has captured the moment a unit made up of English-speaking foreign fighters 'killed 22 Russian soldiers' as they stormed a trench in Ukraine.

The unit, formed of Ukrainian soldiers as well as British, Canadian, Irish and Australians, came under intense drone bombardment as it carried out its mission to capture a tactically 'dominant' location near Avdiivka, Eastern Ukraine.

Footage of the assault - which left at least one British fighter injured - was released online on Tuesday by the 59th Motor Rifle Brigade, which added commentary to the clips.

The commander of the company does not reveal the exact location of the assault, instead referring to the position as '105-106 Heights'.

He describes the combat seen in the footage as the most brutal fight his unit has experienced when fighting for a position, telling viewers 'the [Russian] opponents concentrated a lot of resources to hold it'.

New heart-stopping battleground footage has captured the moment a unit made up of foreign fighters 'killed 22 Russian soldiers' as they stormed a trench in Ukraine.

A soldier in the unit largely made up of foreign fighters is seen advancing through the trench. Throughout the assault, soldiers on the Ukrainian side were reported to have killed 22 Russian enemies while taking two captive. It was unclear how many casualties the brigade suffered

The heartstopping footage opens with a convoy of Ukrainian trucks speeding down the side of a row of trees lining vast, open, bombed-out fields, in August last year

Instantly the sound of gunfire is heard being exchanged between the mounted machine guns on the trucks and the Russian soldiers hiding in the trenches which are hidden in the trees

Filmed by drones and body-mounted cameras, the footage shows the Brigade's assault units Alpha, Bravo and Charlie storm the trenches under a hail of bullets and eliminate several Russian soldiers who have hunkered down there.

It opens with the Ukrainian troops in a convoy of armoured military trucks - speeding down the side of a row of dead trees lining vast, open, bombed-out fields.

A date stamp on the footage - released by Ukrainian YouTube channel Butusov Plus - shows that it was filmed on August 23, 2023.

Instantly the sound of gunfire is heard being exchanged between the mounted machine guns on the trucks and the Russian soldiers hiding in the trenches.

'F***ng hell,' one of the fighters can be heard saying in a thick English accent. Another, in an American accent this time, says: 'That's Russian.'

As the trucks slow down and the fighters prepare to launch their assault on foot, one of the armoured vehicles is hit by an explosion, launching dirt into the air.

Undeterred, the camouflaged-clad gunmen press on, climbing out of the trucks and taking up positions to provide covering fire for their comrades.

To shouts of 'push up' over the din of gunfire, the unit begins to advance on the trenches. One of the trucks is seen heavily damaged, with soldiers climbing out. It doesn't appear that any of them were badly injured.

One of the soldiers filming the attack shouts 'frag out' before hurling a grenade into the sparsely wooded area, where the Russians are bedded down in cover.

Drone footage is interspersed with the first-person combat footage, using superimposed flags to show where the Alpha, Bravo and Charlie units are in relation to the Russians in the trenches.

The video shows the treeline, and how the three units of the Ukrainian side worked to surround two Russian units, sending one down the middle and two either side.

Despite coming under intense fire and several explosions going rocking the ground around them, Ukraine's fighters are seen swiftly advancing to the treeline.

The footage shows one member of the Alpha group shoot dead at one enemy soldier, who makes the fatal error of leaving the cover of the trenches.

Another Russian soldier seen lying on the floor of the trench, and is also seen being shot as one of the Ukrainian fighters advances.

With the Ukrainian fighters now embedded in the trenches, the sound of a drone can be heard buzzing in overhead, forcing the soldiers to take cover.

'Suicide drone!' the soldiers can be heard shouting to each other as a warning.

The footage then cuts to the camera mounted on a Canadian's helmet, who shouts to his comrades 'I'm hit!'

He appears to be covered in dirt, suggesting he was close to where the Russian suicide drone struck. 'Coming mate, coming,' an Australian fighter is heard saying as he rushes to his comrade's aid.

The Canadian's hands are visibly shaking, but after a check-up, the Australian tells him that he 'looks good', encouraging him to get back on his feet.

The Canadian is not able to stand, but crawls through the trench to cover.

The footage then cuts to a drone filming the Charlie team, which appears to be made up of six soldiers - all bearing down on a Russian position which looks to include an enemy fighter with a grenade launcher.

Several explosions send them to the ground, but they all get back on their feet quickly and continue to push on.

At the other end of the trench, the Alpha and Bravo teams have a group of Russian soldiers pinned down, and are inching their way towards the position.

The Ukrainian drone hovering above the battlefield shows that one of the Russian soldiers is badly wounded and is being treated on the floor of the trench.

However, as a British soldier from Alpha unit approaches a nearby bend in the trench, the wounded Russian soldier is able to fire off a hail of bullets from his machine gun - blasting the Brit with several rounds, sending him flying backwards.

'Man down!' one of the fighters on the Ukrainian side shouts as they return fire.

Two of the fighters of the Ukrainian side push further up the trench while another brings up the rear to give medical aid to the British soldier.

Miraculously, he survived the initial burst of gunfire, and can be seen moving.

To add to the chaos in the trenches, another suicide drone is seen overhead and mercifully slams down into the ground a matter of feet away from Alpha's position.

With the drone missing its target, a fighter with an American accent continues to assist his downed comrade, whose nickname appears to be 'Mossy'.

'Alright Mossy,' he says. 'I'm going to have to molest you a little bit so I can get these grenades out of you,' while helping him to lift his arms slightly. Although dazed, 'Mossy' appears to be responsive and moving as his comrade retrieves grenades.

Re-armed with the explosives, Alpha unit is then able to advance further down the trenches and take out the surrounded Russia position. Blurred footage later shows the body of the Russian soldier who shot the British fighter on the ground.

The footage cuts again, this time to fighters in Bravo squad - two of which are seen hunkered down in a ditch littered with debris and fallen trees, while another two are seen in a small bunker dug into the ground.

The commentary by the 59th Motor Rifle Brigade's commander returns again briefly.

With one flank of the Russian defence wiped out, he explains that the units - Alfa-Bravo to the left and Charlie to the right - are in a 'difficult moment' as they close in on the remaining surrounded Russia position.

He explains that the Russians are dug between two positions, with five enemy soldiers having taken cover in holes in the ground. There is a risk, he says, of friendly fire, as the Ukrainian troops approach from both sides.

This, he says, means the Ukrainian units have to be patient and wait until they can take shots at the Russians without hitting their comrades on the other side.

Back with a camera mounted on a Bravo team soldier, the footage shows two Russian soldiers suddenly running through the trees - out of cover.

The soldier with the camera shoots one, but the other runs towards the Ukrainian fighter's position and into the trench - close enough to see his face.

https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02...7925095717.jpg

He appears confused, lost almost, and unarmed. He holds his hands up in front of his body, and the white 'Z' of the Russian army is visible on his armoured vest.

Meanwhile, the fighter with the camera, who appears to have an American accent, can be heard shouting 'what the f***' - before the Russian sprints away again.

The remainder of the footage - shot by a drone - shows the Ukrainian units gradually picking off the remaining enemy soldiers one by one, completing the mission.

It was not immediately clear how many casualties the Ukrainian units took, but it was reported online that a total of 22 Russian soldiers were killed, and two captured.

Avdiivka has become a deadly flash-point in the almost two-year long war.

In 2023, Ukrainian units crashed against solid Russian defence and it is now Moscow's troops on the attack, particularly around Avdiivka.

Residential buildings are seen after being damaged by Russian military strikes in the front line town of Avdiivka, amid Russia's attack on Ukraine, in Donetsk region, November 8

As with Bakhmut earlier in 2023, this industrial city on the eastern front has become a new symbol for Ukrainian resistance.

Massively destroyed, it still has around 900 residents compared to 30,000 before the war. However, the Russian noose is slowly tightening and a Ukrainian retreat cannot be excluded.

Avdiivka's mayor Vitaly Barabash has called the situation 'critical' in recent days and said there is now house-to-house fighting in the city.

Russia has been sending 'waves' of men and the surrounding fields are 'littered with corpses', according to soldiers defending the city.

Artillery unit commander Titushko.

As the anniversary of Putin’s invasion nears, the fall of Avdiivka has given Russia its first gain in months. In Kyiv, cracks in morale are showing. What happens now?

Close to the frontline in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, a bumpy road passes through half-abandoned hamlets. It morphs into a muddy track, snakes through fields, and eventually leads to an army base hidden in a forest.

There, as a kettle boiled on a gas heater, a weary 39-year-old soldier, who wished to be known only by his callsign, Titushko, spoke about the problems of fighting the Russians amid a serious ammunition shortage, as the sound of fire from nearby positions echoed around the base.

In November, Titushko’s men, part of an artillery division in Ukraine’s First Tank Brigade, received a supply of about 300 shells every 10 days, but they now have a firing limit of just 10 a day. “Back then, we could keep them on their toes, fire all the time, aim every time we saw a target. Now we fire exclusively for defence,” he said.

The ammunition reserves at the base are thin, and partly made up of Iranian shells – part of a shipment seized in the Gulf apparently en route to Houthi rebels in Yemen. They are “extremely problematic and don’t work well,” another soldier at the base said.

Along the frontline, Ukraine is on the defensive, short of ammunition and soldiers. On Saturday, Ukraine’s military command announced it was withdrawing from Avdiivka, further east in Donetsk region, handing Russia its first major territorial gain since May last year. Ukrainian officials have described the loss as a direct consequence of the shortage of ammunition from the west.

The grim news, as the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion approaches, is another sign that the third year of the war could be the hardest yet for Ukraine. The mood is very different from that of a year ago, when amid the horror Ukrainians remained buoyed up by the extraordinary consolidation of national society, and looked forward to the swift liberation of all territories occupied by Russia.

In Kyiv, the cultural historian Natalia Kryvda attributed the remarkable coming-together in the first year of the war to Ukraine’s past as a nation that lacked the infrastructure of a state. “Because we have this long history of a stateless nation, we organised these horizontal links to start the defence. People took responsibility, they didn’t wait for orders,” she said.

https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/9fdb6...0&dpr=1&s=none

Natalia Kryvda in the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv.

Those first months saw almost all segments of society unite, said Kryvda, creating a powerful new Ukrainian identity and a pride in being Ukrainian after years of denigration of the concept from Russia. “It was something very beautiful, but I’m worried that this unity is starting to crack now,” she said.

On Saturday, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reminded the Munich security conference of just how much Ukrainian society had achieved over the past two years: “Ukrainians have been holding [out] for 724 days – 724 days, would you have believed 725 days ago that this was even possible?”

But with casualties mounting, army ranks and artillery supplies depleted and US financial aid stalled – and with the potentially devastating prospect of a Donald Trump presidency on the horizon – Ukrainians greet the second anniversary with trepidation about what the future might hold, as well as with increasingly visible divisions in society.

Stalled US Aid For Ukraine

At about 2 a.m. last Tuesday, Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin stood on the Senate floor and explained why he opposed sending more aid to help Ukraine fend off the invasion launched in 2022 by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I don't like this reality," Johnson said. “Vladimir Putin is an evil war criminal.” But he quickly added: “Vladimir Putin will not lose this war.”

That argument — that the Russian president cannot be stopped so there's no point in using American taxpayer dollars against him — marks a new stage in the Republican Party's growing acceptance of Russian expansionism in the age of Donald Trump.

The GOP has been softening its stance on Russia ever since Trump won the 2016 election following Russian hacking of his Democratic opponents. There are several reasons for the shift. Among them, Putin is holding himself out as an international champion of conservative Christian values and the GOP is growing increasingly skeptical of overseas entanglements.

Then there's Trumps' personal embrace of the Russian leader.

Now the GOPs' ambivalence on Russia has stalled additional aid to Ukraine at a pivotal time in the war.

The Senate last week passed a foreign aid package that included $61 billion for Ukraine on a 70-29 vote, but Johnson was one of a majority of the Republicans to vote against the bill after their late-night stand to block it.

https://www.rollingstone.com/wp-cont...&h=1054&crop=1

In the Republican-controlled House, SNIDEY Speaker Mike Johnson said his chamber will not be “rushed” to pass the measure, even as Ukraines' military warns of dire shortages of ammunition and artillery.

HUNGRY FOR MORE Fears Putin Days Away From Annexing ANOTHER Part of Europe in Fresh Hitler-Style Landgrab to Mark Ukraine Anniversary

VLADIMIR Putin could be on the brink of attempting another Hitler-style landgrab in Europe - the annexation of a Moldovan territory.

Fears are growing that the warmongering tyrant, 71, will attempt to strike at the West by announcing warped plans for the former Soviet republic that neighbours Ukraine next week.

Putin may announce an annexation of the pro-Moscow breakaway region of Transnistria following the second anniversary of his war against Ukraine

Russian so-called 'peacekeepers' take part in a parade to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Transnistria's illegal independence

There are reports that the pro-Russian breakaway region of Transnistria - which illegally declared its independence from Moldova in 1990 - is plotting to appeal to Putin to join Russia.

The landlocked strip along the Dniester River is wedged between both Moldova and Ukraine, which will pass its second anniversary in the grips of a grinding war with Russia this weekend.

Putin already has a so-called "peacekeeping" force of up to 2,000 troops in the region, which has a population of about 470,000 that Moscow says overwhelmingly wishes to be incorporated into Russia.

He is also believed to have thousands of paramilitaries on the ground, ready to take arms when the call comes.

Putin is set to make a major speech at the Russian Federal Assembly on February 29 - sparking fears he will use it to green light plans for an annexation.

The day before, a “congress” of local politicians has been called in Transnistria amid speculation they will issue a formal appeal to join Russia.

The last such congress led to such a demand.

Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has insisted Moscow will "not leave its citizens living in Transnistria in trouble”.

The despots' stunt - which lasted around 40 minutes - appeared to be intended to enhance his macho ratings as he stands for re-election next month, and distract attention from the 'murder' of opposition leader Alexei Navalny in an Arctic jail.

But by flying in a type of warplane that has been used to wreak havoc in Ukraine with conventional weapons, he was sending a message that he intends to keep fighting in Ukraine, which he invaded almost two years ago.

And the huge Tu-160M - aka White Swan - is a key part of his nuclear strike force at a time when the Kremlin is bluntly warning the West over the risk of nuclear war.

Putin was seen taking off in Kazan a day after he visited a factory in the city where the Tupolev bombers are manufactured.

He clambered up a ladder at the factory to go inside the plane and spent ten minutes in the ****pit.

He then made the decision to fly himself in one of his bombers - his first flight since he took to the sky in a Tu-160 in 2005.

The giant swing-wing plane is a substantially modernised-version of a Soviet-era bomber that the USSR would have deployed in the event of a nuclear war with the West to deliver nuclear weapons at long distances.

The TU-160M is capable of carrying 12 cruise missiles or 12 short-range nuclear missiles and can fly 7,500 miles non-stop without re-fuelling.

The electioneering stunt came less than a week after a man who wanted to oust him as president - Navalny - was 'murdered' inside his bleak Arctic jail.

Even though the March election is expected to be rigged in Putin's favour, he is currently more visible on state TV than he has been for years.

A breathless report on Putin-controlled Russian state TV said: 'We just saw that the president [Vladimir Putin] again, for the second time in two days, climbed into the ****pit of a Tu-160 strategic bomber.'

On the tarmac, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin had 'made a decision to take a flight. There will be a flight [with Putin] now.'

Putin later emerged from the Tu-160M to hail the improved aircraft - the model in which he had flown - as suitable for the Russian air force.

'The technology is excellent. It can be accepted into the Armed Forces,' he said.

Vladimir Putin could kill again on the streets of Britain, the defence secretary has warned, following the death of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny.

https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02...8809681213.jpg

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny died in prison earlier this month. His widow and supporters maintain he was killed by the Russian state

Mr Navalny, leader of the Russia of the Future opposition party, died on February 16 in a Russian prison in the Arctic Circle after being jailed on what his allies said were trumped up charges of extremism created by the Kremlin to silence him.

Now Grant Shapps has warned that Putin, who he says already has blood on his hands for the Salisbury poisonings targeting Sergei and Yulia Skripal, could strike again on UK soil, saying: 'We've seen what Putin is capable of.'

Russian authorities say he died of natural causes, but his widow Yulia Navalnaya believes he was poisoned with the deadly nerve agent Novichok - the same one used to target double agent Sergei Skripal in Salisbury in 2018.

The defence secretary compared the Russian premier - who has been been president or prime minister since 1999 - to Adolf Hitler, and warned that he presented the greatest threat to global peace since the Nazi dictator.

'Putin has Navalny's blood on his hands. Navalny should never have been in prison. His crime was standing up to an autocratic and now dictatorial Putin, who has a long history of bumping off his opponents.

'The world must not waver or bend to that kind of squalid leadership. We know what happens when you do — you end up with the mess of the last century.'

Mr Shapps added: 'Look what happened in Salisbury. We've seen what Putin is capable of. We are always tracking and trying to prevent those things. But do I think he has intent? You have seen that. So, yes.'

Bill Browder, a political activist and friend of Navalny's believed to be high on Putin's 'kill list', has claimed in recent days the Russian president will not hesitate to kill again on British soil after the dissident's death.

Navalny's body was handed over to his mother today after a nine day wait.

Mr Browder told the Mirror earlier this week that Putin had 'lost all restraint' after the 'game changer' of killing Navalny.

He said: 'The fact he would kill the most popular and prominent opposition politician in plain sight without fear of repercussion says that people who are opposing Putin in Russia and abroad are in much more serious risk of assassination.

'The killing of Alexei Navalny has shown Putin has lost all restraint and that he will embark on a major *international killing spree which will include against all his enemies in the UK.'

Meanwhile, a survivor of the Salisbury Novichok poisonings has warned Navalny's widow that she 'could be next'.

https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02...8809762302.jpg

Charlie Rowley's partner Dawn Sturgess was killed by the deadly nerve agent in 2018 and he was left partly paralysed. Mother-of-three Dawn Sturgess and her partner Charlie Rowley fell ill at the flat in Amesbury, near Salisbury, after she handled a perfume bottle containing the poison

https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02...8821213335.jpg

Now he fears Yulia Navalnaya could be Putin's next victim and has warned her to 'watch her back'.

His intervention comes after Mrs Navalnaya released a video insisting Putin had used Novichok to murder her jailed husband after he 'could not be broken'.

''Senator Vance. You declared your animus towards Ukraine’s security shortly after Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Differences of opinion are natural, but your position and tone are arguably ill-conceived. Let us ignore moral imperatives and consider purely self-interest.

You contend that by aiding Ukraine we degrade our ability to confront China. Most analysts, however, consider robust support of Ukraine, as the strongest check on China’s revanchist impulses.

Were Ukraine to fall, increased demands to secure Europe would limit our ability to defend Taiwan.
You dismiss as preposterous Putins’ capacity or intentions to expand his war, even as a growing number of military experts at home and in Europe, warn about the likelihood of further Russian aggression.

Strategic considerations demand that we prepare for and prevent catastrophic events of moderate probability. Mr. Putin’s predicates his conquest of Ukraine on termination of Western support, a termination that you advocate for.

There's been no blank check...

Putin planning to use private militias to 'weaponise' flow of migrants Russia is trying to destabilise Europe and influence its elections by moving migrants into the continent using private armies, it is claimed.

Vladimir Putin has attempted '15,000-man strong border police force' made up of former Libyan militias to 'weaponise' the flow of migrants from Africa, according to reports.

The Kremlin has already been accused of trying to create a refugee crisis by sending asylum seekers to its border with Finland, forcing the new NATO member to close its doors to migrants in a bid to stem the tide. There are fears that the country could renew its efforts this spring, with the EU's border police force saying Russia is using migration 'as a lever in a larger game of influence and pressure'.

Using private mercenaries, including the notorious Wagner group, it is believed Russia will fuel violence in places such as Burkina Faso, Mali, Sudan, Central African Republic and Libya to drive migrants towards Europe.

https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03...9277126188.jpg

Last year Finland was forced to close its doors to asylum seekers at four crossings after arguing that Putin was deliberately sending them across the border in retaliation for it joining NATO.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (pictured) said it was 'clear that these people are helped and they are also being escorted or transported to the border by border guards', although Russia dismissed the claims.

https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03...9277182752.jpg

Dr Sergey Sukhankin, a senior fellow at The Jamestown Foundation and an adviser at Gulf State Analytics in Washington, told the Telegraph: 'The various waves of illegal migrants from Africa might increase, because Russia is planning to create a new military facility in the Central African Republic.'

Central African Republic is a key part of some of the most-used migrant routes, with asylum seekers from places such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo moving through on their way north to Sudan and Libya.

The port city was attacked ahead of Zelenskys' meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis. A source said it was 'the closest call ever', coming within yards of the mission

MOSCOW, March 7 (Reuters) - A senior Russian military officer has warned that the conflict in Ukraine could escalate into a full-scale war in Europe and said the probability of Moscow's forces becoming involved in a new conflict is increasing "significantly."

Colonel-General Vladimir Zarudnitsky, head of the Russian army's Military Academy of the General Staff, made the comments in an article for "Military Thought", a defence ministry publication, the state RIA news agency reported on Thursday.

"The possibility of an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine - from the expansion of participants in 'proxy forces' used for military confrontation with Russia to a large-scale war in Europe - cannot be ruled out," RIA cited him a saying.

"The main source of military threats to our state is the anti-Russian policy of the United States and its allies, who are conducting a new type of hybrid warfare in order to weaken Russia in every possible way, limit its sovereignty and destroy its territorial integrity," he was quoted as saying.

"The likelihood of our state being purposefully drawn into new military conflicts is significantly increasing."

The war in Ukraine has triggered the deepest crisis in Russia's relations with the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis and President Vladimir Putin has warned that the West risks provoking a nuclear war if it sends troops to fight in Ukraine.

Putin has cast his decision to send tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine in February 2022 as a special military operation designed to secure Russia's own security against an increasingly hostile U.S.-backed Ukrainian leadership. Kyiv says it is defending itself against an imperial-style war of conquest designed to erase its national identity.

Zarudnitsky's comments come at a time when the West is scrambling to help Ukraine with more arms and financing after Kyiv's failed counteroffensive last summer and after Russian forces regained the initiative on the battlefield.

Zarudnitsky advocated a number of changes in the way Russia organises its military and security, RIA added, including placing greater emphasis on replying on what he called friendly countries to ensure Russia's own security and consolidating the whole of Russian society around its defence needs.

Kiryakos Mitsotakis said;
"At the very end, we heard sirens and explosions, which were very close to us. We didn't have time to go to a protected place, it's a very striking experience," the Greek Prime Minister added. We understand that this war concerns everyone.

There are no people who are not involved in this war. This war pleases no one...

The use of such substances, which is known as CS, is banned during wartime under the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Slava, a senior lieutenant whose unit is deployed near Lyman, in Donetsk oblast, said some Ukrainian units in his area were coming under “almost daily” gas attacks.

A CS gas grenade was provided to the Telegraph for verification by Rebekah Maciorowski, an American combat medic and a qualified nurse serving in the Ukrainian army.

Maciorowski has been routinely called to provide medical aid to Ukrainian soldiers in the three brigades she works with in Donetsk oblast after chemical weapon attacks, which she described as “systematic”.

The grenade was originally retrieved by soldiers in the 53rd Mechanised Brigade, one of the units with which she works.

Maciorowski said: “My guys retrieved it while under fire because nobody believed they were being attacked with chemical weapons.”

Ihor, the commander of a Ukrainian reconnaissance team deployed near the frontline city of Chasiv Yar, in Donetsk oblast, told the Telegraph: “Nearly every position in our area of the front was getting one or two gas grenades dropped on them a day.”

He said that because of how embedded many Ukrainian troops are now, it was difficult for the Russians to attack with conventional artillery or drones firing missiles, adding: “The only way for them to successfully attack us was with gas.”

In 2022, Chris Philp, UK technology minister at the time, warned that Russia can expect a “dramatic increased response” from the west if Vladimir Putin uses chemical weapons in Ukraine.

Philp also accused the Kremlin of sharing disinformation online to create a false narrative that Ukraine is preparing to use chemical weapons, so that Russia can launch its own chemical attack.

David Cameron has held talks with Donald Trump in Florida amid a push to shore up support for Ukraine and advance a new package of aid that is held up in Congress.

In a statement on Monday, a Foreign Office spokesperson said: “Ahead of his visit to Washington, the foreign secretary will meet former President Trump in Florida today. It is standard practice for ministers to meet with opposition candidates as part of their routine international engagement.”

Cameron’s discussion with the presumptive Republican presidential candidate, believed to be the first such meeting by a senior UK minister with Trump since he left office, covered Ukraine, the war in Gaza and the future of Nato, according to a report in the Telegraph.

Trump has repeatedly voiced misgivings about aid to Ukraine and questioned America’s commitment to Nato, the international alliance which the US has committed to defending when necessary.

On his visit to Washington, Cameron will warn that success for Kyiv in defeating Russia is “vital for American and European security” as he urges lawmakers across to approve “urgent” further assistance for the country.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/...eg?imwidth=480

He will hold talks with his US counterpart, Antony Blinken, the national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, and the Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, and is hoping to meet the House speaker, Mike Johnson, whose colleagues are preventing the vote on an extra $60bn (£47bn) of Ukraine aid.

Lord Cameron will push for Ukraine to be given the resources needed to “go on the offensive” in 2025 and will urge congressional leaders to “change the narrative” on support for Kyiv, the Foreign Office said.

He was expected to tell Johnson to stop his colleagues from continuing to block the support amid opposition from hardliners aligned with Trump.

It’s the latest of several interventions made by Cameron over additional funding for Ukraine. Earlier this year, he warned Congress not to show “the weakness displayed against Hitler” in the 1930s.

His previous comments drew the ire and foul mouth of rightwing congresswoman and staunch Trump ally Marjorie Taylor Greene, who told him to “kiss my ass” and “worry about his own country”.

US House approves $61BIL in military aid for Ukraine after months of stalling

Ukrainian President Thanks America After Speaker Mike Johnson Secures Bipartisan Support For Funding Ukraine After British Foreign Secretary Lord David Camerons' Visit to US to UNBLOCK Ukraine Support

The Guardian 21 APR 2024

https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/ae475...0&dpr=1&s=none

After months of stalling, the US House of Representatives finally approved more than $61bn worth of military assistance to help Ukraine in its desperate defense against Russia, as well as billions for other allies including Israel and Taiwan.

In a bipartisan vote, 210 Democrats and 101 Republicans joined to support Ukraine, with 112 Republicans – a majority of the GOP members – voting against. It came after the Republican speaker, Mike Johnson, forced a series of bills onto the floor in the face of fierce resistance within his own Republican party, many of whom oppose spending more on Ukraine’s defense.

The Senate is set to begin considering the House-passed bill on Tuesday, with some preliminary votes that afternoon. Final passage was expected sometime next week, which would clear the way for Biden to sign it into law.

Voting began hours ahead of schedule in an extraordinary Saturday session that delayed the House’s planned recess. The House erupted into applause when the Ukraine bill passed, with the chair, Marc Molinaro of New York, admonishing members not to wave Ukrainian flags.

In a powerful effort to sum up the stakes before the vote, the former Democratic speaker, Nancy Pelosi, made a stridently graphic appeal: “I hope our colleagues will choose democracy and decency rather than autocracy and evil because I fear if you choose the Putin route, you will have blood on your hands, blood of the children, blood of their mothers raped in front of their parents, raped in front of their children,” she said.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Ukraine’s president, recently warned that his country “will lose the war” without US assistance, as its military has struggled with ammunition and air defense shortages and Russia has pressed a growing advantage in firepower as Congress prevaricated.

Immediately after the bill passed, ZelenskIy released a statement expressing his gratitude to both parties “and personally Speaker Mike Johnson for the decision that keeps history on the right track”.

https://greekreporter.com/wp-content...y-official.jpg

“Democracy and freedom will always have global significance and will never fail as long as America helps to protect it,” he said. “The vital US aid bill passed today by the House will keep the war from expanding, save thousands and thousands of lives, and help both of our nations to become stronger. Just peace and security can only be attained through strength.

We hope that bills will be supported in the Senate and sent to President Biden’s desk. Thank you, America!”

Convicted murderers Dmitry Malyshev and Alexander Maslennikov are now fighting on the frontline in Ukraine

Convicted multiple murderer and self-confessed cannibal Dmitry Malyshev has been released from prison by Putin to fight in Ukraine on the frontline and is joined by another notorious criminal.

Two sick criminals - a cannibal and a rapist 'meat grinder' killer - were released from prison early by Putin to fight in Ukraine and have now joined forces on the frontline.

One of the two offenders, murderer Dmitry Malyshev, 36, admitted to killing three men, ripping out the heart of one of them and frying it with herbs and seasoning before eating it with a side of vegetables.

The second is rapist-killer Alexander Maslennikov, 38, who was jailed for using an axe and a meat grinder to dismember the bodies of two women he killed in his home, then feeding the remains of his victims to dogs.

Both have had their sentences cut short and were released from prison, amongst hundreds of thousands of other Russian criminals, in order to join the armed forces and fight in Unit Storm V in Ukraine as part of Putin's illegal invasion of the country.

The Russian president calls his fighters the "new elite" of Russia although many of them have committed heinous crimes. These two convicted killers were pictured grinning together in military uniform and have spoken out about their partnership, according to V1 Media.

Malyshev, who had been jailed for 25 years for his role in criminal gang murders, banditry, theft, illegal weapons trafficking, robbery and cannibalism, announced that he and Maslennikov intend "to preserve the traditional values of Russia" by fighting for the country. He continued:

"Alexander and I were serving sentences together and we both signed contracts with the Ministry of Defence in October 2023. We serve in Storm V."

Released 17 years early, at the time of his arrest he confessed in great detail his brutal crimes, saying: "I caught up with a man there, and killed him. I hit him several times on the head with a nail gun and cut out his heart.”

He then left to buy supplies including an axe, file, spade, and plastic bin bags. He dismembered the bodies, one of them believed to have been cut into 20 pieces, and took them to a forest area and buried them. Forensic investigators later found DNA evidence of both of the women on a meat grinder in his kitchen and local reports cited he had fed some of the human flesh to dogs.

Malyshev is currently in a military hospital with a broken jaw and shrapnel wounds.

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky has already foiled "more than a dozen" assassination attempts after it emerged that he has narrowly escaped death again.

Ukrainian counterintelligence investigators said they dismantled a Russian plot to assassinate the president, along with other senior political and military figures.

Two State Guard of Ukraine colonels - whose role is to protect high-ranking officials - have been taken into custody for allegedly enacting a plan drawn up by the Russian FSB. The two officers are said to have been recruited before the war broke out in February 2022.

But it's not the first time Zelensky has been targeted. Weeks after the February invasion, reports emerged that alleged Vladimir Putin had told Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov to hunt down and liquidate Ukraine's leaders.

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incomin...2west-news.jpg

Ukrainian spymaster Major General Kyrylo Budanov

In March, commandos from Chechnya were deployed to assassinate Zelensky. But they didn't get far and were quickly taken out by Ukraine's intelligence service. In that same month, a Russian private military company called Redut was given a similar task - to infiltrate and eliminate the political leadership.

The operation - in which more than 1,000 fighters reported for duty - was unsuccessful as up to 90 per cent of the soldiers were slaughtered when they tried to seize institutions in Kyiv.

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incomin...2west-news.jpg

Ukrainian secret service operatives swoop on the "Russian FSB" agents

A year later in August 2023, it emerged that another assassination had been prevented when a woman was arrested on suspicion of gathering information about Zelensky's holiday to Mykolaiv. In April 2024, Pawel K - a Polish national - was also seized. He was accused of trying to organised the president's assassination at a Polish airport.

It's currently unclear exactly how many attempts have been made against the president's life, but his adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said he believes it's "more than a dozen".

Regarding the attempt that emerged today, State Security Service head, Vasyl Maliuk, was quoted as saying the plot foresaw an attack before Russian President Vladimir Putin's inauguration for a fifth term on Tuesday. Maliuk said that he personally oversaw the top-secret operation to track the plot.

Ukrainian claims of Russian efforts to kill Zelensky aren't new. Zelensky said in 2022 there has been at least 10 attempts to assassinate him, and now the war with Russia has stretched into its third year.

Zelensky's movements are kept secret for security reasons, and his visits around the country are publicly announced only after he has left. News of events he holds in Kyiv is usually embargoed until they are over.

Zelensky proved to be a valuable asset for his country as the war against Ukraine's bigger neighbor grinds on, and as Kyiv's depleted forces wait for more troops and weapons. He has urged his people to keep fighting and instilled a belief that Ukraine can prevail.

The Ukrainian statement said the Russian intelligence agents targeting Zelensky sought out members of the Ukrainian military close to the president's security detail who could take the head of state hostage and later kill him. The operation was run from Moscow, it said, providing the names of three alleged Russian spies behind the conspiracy.

The broader plan was to identify the location of senior Ukrainian officials and target them with a rocket attack, followed by drones and missiles. The two Ukrainian colonels were arrested on suspicion of treason, which carries a life sentence, the statement said.

Putins' TORTURE PRISONS; If You Are a Musician They Beat You More

‘If You Say You Are a Musician, They Beat You More’:

The Ukrainian sax player who survived Putins' torture prisons

The Guardian 12 MAY 2024

https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/0c39b...0&dpr=1&s=none

Yuri Merkotan lost nearly 60kg during his capture.

The Ukrainian sax player who survived Putins' torture prisons.. Yuriy Merkotan played in a military band and, after being caught up in the Mariupol siege, spent nearly two years in various jails

When Yuriy Merkotan enlisted in Ukraine’s national guard in 2020, it was not because he wanted to fight. A saxophonist living in the southern port city of Mariupol, there were few opportunities to play music professionally. So when a spot became free in a 16-person band attached to a national guard brigade, he jumped at the chance.

But when Russian forces put Mariupol under siege in February 2022, the band members were called to duty. They ended up inside Azovstal, the sprawling factory that became the last bastion of Ukrainian defence as the Russian occupation proceeded to its grim conclusion.

When Ukrainian forces in Azovstal laid down their arms in May 2022, Merkotan and other musicians were among more than 2,000 Ukrainians taken into Russian captivity.

Over 20 months in Russian prisons, he lost nearly 60kg of body weight, and was subjected to a gruesome routine of physical and psychological torment.

He was freed in January this year, but the story of his time in Russian captivity shines a light on the grim conditions faced by thousands of Ukrainians taken prisoner by Russia over the past two years.

It also serves as a reminder that 23 musicians, from three Mariupol ensembles, remain in Russian captivity, as the two-year anniversary of the Russian takeover of the city approaches next week.

“I tried to explain that I was a musician but it didn’t work. You say you are a musician and it irritates them so much they beat you more, and accuse you of lying,” said Merkotan, during an interview in a Kyiv cafe.

Before Vladimir Putin’s decision to launch the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Merkotan’s 16-person national guard orchestra played ceremonial marches at military parades, and toured Donetsk region giving concerts of popular music covers at public events or old-people’s homes.

After the start of hostilities, the musicians were put in charge of bringing food and supplies to other parts of the national guard stationed in the huge territory of Azovstal. It was a dangerous job that involved scarpering above ground with heavy barrels and boxes, moving quickly enough to evade the incoming fire that inevitably followed as soon as they made an appearance. The band’s drummer was killed in an airstrike inside Azovstal; the trombonist, who is also Merkotan’s brother-in-law, was wounded.

Eventually, 10 musicians from the band ended up in Russian captivity. For the first months, they were mostly held in crowded barracks in the town of Olenivka, in Russian-occupied eastern Ukraine. Drinking water came straight from the river and sometimes had a greenish tinge; food was served *piping hot and with a window of a couple of minutes to wolf it down, forcing hungry prisoners either to burn their mouths or abstain.

One hot day in the summer of 2022, Merkotan’s name was called and he was put on a bus with other prisoners. “We didn’t know where they were taking us. Three guys came in with weapons and were aggressive, shouting at us that we are scum and that if we make any move they’ll kill us,” he said. It turned out that Merkotan was among 60 men picked for the unenviable task of exhuming bodies of those who died in shelling and airstrikes in Mariupol, and had been buried in makeshift graves. For a month, he was driven daily to the occupied city and forced to dig at gunpoint.

“My team dug up 200 bodies at least. It was August, hot, and the smell was disgusting. Surprisingly, nobody vomited. I guess the stress was too much, but we all got terrible diarrhoea. On the fourth day, I stopped eating because as soon as you ate you had to run to the toilet,” he recalled.

At the beginning of October, he was blindfolded and put in a prison truck. After hours of driving along bumpy roads, he was pushed on to a plane, the first time in his life he had taken a flight. Although he remained blindfolded and handcuffed, he assumed the movement meant he would be exchanged.

Instead, after landing and another truck ride, the barking of dogs and coarse Russian shouting informed him he was back at a prison. It was only later, from ink stamps on the bed sheets, that he found out the location: Borisoglebsk, in Russia’s Voronezh region.

The humiliations of Russian prison made Merkotan miss the conditions back in occupied Ukraine. At Borisoglebsk, prisoners were forbidden from sitting or lying between 6am and 10pm, when they were forced to stand up in their cells. Many developed serious leg injuries. The speaker system played the same few recorded radio programmes about Ukrainian Nazis over and over again.

Twice a day, the inmates had to assemble in the corridor, face against the wall and legs apart as wide as they could manage. They were then assaulted by guards who beat them with rubber truncheons, and sometimes used handheld electric shockers. After some months, Merkotan was moved to another prison in the same town, where the conditions were slightly better and the men were allowed to sit. Then, in January this year, he was told he would be exchanged.

The blindfold went on again and he was put in a bus that drove in what he assumed was the direction of the border with Ukraine. But after some hours, the bus stopped, then turned around. When they stopped later, one of the Russian guards began punching him hard, breaking his jaw in two places. “That’s for what your guys did,” the man shouted.

The swap, he later found out, had been cancelled after a transport plane that Russia claimed was carrying dozens of prisoners meant to be exchanged was shot down by a Ukrainian missile. Much about the incident remains murky and disputed. A week later, he was taken from the prison again and this time the exchange went ahead, with Merkotan one of about 200 Ukrainians heading home.

Merkotan has been reunited with his wife, Anastasia, a music teacher he met when the pair were both music students in the city of Donetsk a decade ago.

https://i.guim.co.uk/img/media/5e1fd...0&dpr=1&s=none

While he was in captivity, Anastasia had started a project named “Bring the Band Home”, dedicated to returning the musicians held in Russian captivity, from Yuriy’s orchestra and two other military-linked ensembles that had been in Mariupol. She said there is little or no information about many of the 23 musicians remaining in Russian captivity.

Russians carrying Wagner flags

Intelligence sources have said that terrorists recruited by Russian GRU agents have been responsible for a series of attacks in Western Europe and the US in the last six months.

The Telegraph understands that extremists are being recruited by undercover officers of the GRU – the Russian military intelligence service – and members of the mercenary group Wagner.

It comes after the expulsion of Col Elovik Maxim, the Russian defence attache to the UK, who is believed to be a GRU operative.

An intelligence source said: “The GRU are cultivating a network of Right-wing terrorists to deploy against Nato targets.

“These attacks are already happening and have been going on for a while in various Nato countries and the UK is definitely on the target list.

“Attacks may have taken place in the US and have occurred in Germany.

“Intelligence agencies are now actively warning their governments that the threat is very real.

“Right-wing extremists are being targeted because they are the group in the political spectrum who are pro-Russia, pro-Putin and very violent.

“There is also a lot of covert contact between Right-wing groups in different countries.”

The disclosures follow comments last month by Thomas Haldenwang, the head of German domestic intelligence, who told a security conference: “We assess the risk of [Russian] state-controlled acts of sabotage to be significantly increased.”

Inside Polands' incredible new £2bn mega-project to make it impossible for Putin to invade

https://cdn.images.express.co.uk/img...=1716298614401

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that his country will spend almost £2billion on a 250-mile defensive structure to prevent a Russian invasion of Nato's eastern flank.

Anti-tank ditches, bunkers and minefields planned for 434 miles of Belarus and Russia border by 2028

The eastern European country has armed itself to the teeth in recent years and now it's building a 250-mile "impassable" defensive structure to keep out Russia.

The East Shield programme will see a giant metal barrier, as well as other fortifications, be installed along the border separating Poland and the Russian exclave Kaliningrad - a distance of around 145 miles. The Shield will also be built along Poland's border with Belarus - a key Russian ally - which is approximately 260 miles.

The project will link up with defensive structures being built in the Baltic states, which should allay fears that Putin may try and exploit the 40-mile Suwałki Gap - the border between Poland and Lithuania.

Announcing the project on 80th anniversary of the Allies' victory over the Nazis in the Battle for Rome in World War Two, 67-year-old Tusk said: "We are launching a major project to build a secure border, including fortifications and environmental adjustments, making it impassable for potential enemies".

The former President of the European Council added: "We will build the East Shield and thereby fulfill the task assigned by the NATO, tasks of deterrence and defence. These tasks are extremely important, as the largest country on NATO’s eastern flank."

This is just the latest strategic military decision Poland has made since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, designed to ramp up their capacity to defend themselves.

The Eastern European country now spends more on defence in GDP terms than any other country in NATO, including the United States.

In 2022, the Polish government announced that military investment would go from 2.4 percent to 3.9 percent.

Putins’ Plot to Destroy NATO is Reaching Its Devastating Climax

Ukraines’ fight isn’t merely for its existence as a nation – it’s a battle for the very fabric of the global order.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/...eg?imwidth=680

Yes, it’s about safeguarding European security – a rallying cry heard in countless statements from Western officials, often accompanied by assurances of limited air defence and ammunition

– But as Ukraine continues to lose ground, towns, and lives, the West’s response is tepid, with its only firm stance drawn around Nato borders, where geopolitical interests overshadow humanitarian concerns.

But what if Putin dares to cross these lines, dismissing Western threats as mere bluster? What if Ukraine falls, emboldening Putin to pursue further expansion into the other former Soviet Union states that, in his view, belong in the Russian empire? Will Nato truly honour its pledge to collective security, or is that promise nothing but hollow rhetoric?

The fact is, Nato’s resilience is more fragile than we think. And a victory for Putin could see the world’s most successful alliance begin to crumble.

The strength of Nato lies not only in its military prowess but in its unwavering commitment to collective defence, enshrined in Article 5. Yet Article 5 merely compels members to contemplate a response.

“The Parties agree that … if such an armed attack occurs, each of them … will take action as it deems necessary…” – that’s all that Article 5 says. That action could mean anything from sending a warship to patrol an incursion, to merely expressing deep concern.

The unnamed officials insisted the US policy preventing Ukraine from using American-provided long-range missiles to strike inside Russia has not changed.

It comes after Jens Stoltenberg, Nato’s alliance’s secretary-general, said the “time has come” for restrictions to be lifted, after France and Germany earlier this week signalled an easing of their own rules.

Antony Blinken, the US secretary of state, reassured Czech leaders that progress was being made on the issue in meetings on Thursday at the beginning of a two-day summit of Nato ministers in Prague.

It is rare for any Nato chief to directly put pressure on a US president and Mr Stoltenberg’s intervention was described as “surprising” by diplomatic sources.

“Allies are delivering many different types of military support to Ukraine and some of them have imposed some restrictions on the use of these weapons… these are national decisions,” Mr Stoltenberg said in a speech ahead of the gathering.

“But I think that in light of how this war has evolved the time has come to consider some of these restrictions, to enable the Ukrainians to really defend themselves.”

In recent weeks Kyiv has repeatedly urged its Western allies to allow the use of their long-range weapons to strike military targets on Russian soil.

“It was surprising,” a diplomat said of Mr Stoltenberg’s campaign to support Ukraine’s push.

“As important as it was, it is not for the secretary general to be giving advice to individual allies on bilateral issues.”

A growing number of European countries, including Britain and France, have granted Kyiv permission to use Western missiles against Russian military targets before they cross the border.

Moscow is massing troops on the border with Ukraine ahead of a long-awaited summer offensive.

But Washington, Ukraine’s key military backer, had until now refused to approve the use of weapons like the long-range Atacms missiles to strike troops or logistics hubs inside Russia.

President Biden was said to be reluctant amid fears the move could drag Nato into a wider conflict with Russia, a nuclear superpower.

But on Thursday, he was reported for the first time to be “edging towards” a U-turn on the issue as Mr Blinken said the US regularly “adjusts” its position in response to events on the battlefield.

“I’m confident we’ll continue to do that,” he said at a news conference in Chisinau.

The Kremlin on Thursday said Nato members calling for relaxed rules on Western weapons were “provoking” Kyiv into prolonging the war.

Dmitry Suslov, an influential think-tank analyst linked to Vladimir Putin’s regime, said Russia should consider a “demonstrative” nuclear explosion to warn the West against its missiles being used in cross-border strikes.

Despite the threats, there was a mounting expectation amongst European allies in Prague that Washington would soon overturn its ban.

“They [America] are looking into this. From what I understand there will be progress,” a senior Czech official familiar with the discussions told The Telegraph.

The source credited President Emmanuel Macron’s decision this week to allow French weapons to be used to “neutralise” Russian targets over the border

Jan Lipavsky, the Czech foreign minister, told reporters: “I feel that we are moving on that in the international sphere.”

Mr Blinken was said to have changed his mind on the use of American weapons after he was warned by President Volodymyr Zelensky that Ukraine could lose Kharkiv, its second-largest city, on a “sobering visit” to Kyiv this month, The New York Times reported.

An anonymous US official told the newspaper that it was “inevitable” that Mr Biden would reverse its ban.

The White House is also understood to be cautious about allowing Ukraine’s position on the battlefield to deteriorate too much ahead of Nato’s 75th anniversary summit in Washington in July.

Sources said Russian advances would be used by Donald Trump, who is expected to be officially named the Republican presidential candidate days after the gathering, to further undermine Mr Biden’s flagship policy of defending Ukraine.

Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia, emphasised the severe consequences of Western intervention in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Medvedev's statements come amidst heightened tensions and increased Western support for Ukraine.

"All Western military equipment and specialists fighting against Russia will be destroyed not only in Ukraine, but also in other countries if they are launched from there onto Russian territory," Medvedev declared. This bold assertion highlights Russia's readiness to target any Western involvement perceived as a direct threat to its territory.

Medvedev further cautioned that individual assistance from NATO countries, whether in the form of missile control or troop deployment, would significantly escalate the situation. "Individual assistance from NATO countries against Russia, be it controlling missiles or sending troops, would be a serious escalation," he noted, "followed by a response of such force that the alliance itself would not be able to resist being drawn into the conflict."

In a chilling statement, Medvedev stressed the potential for a miscalculation by the West regarding Russia's restraint in using tactical nuclear weapons. "This would be a fatal mistake," he warned, suggesting that such a misjudgment could have catastrophic consequences.

This warning coincides with a recent announcement from the German government regarding Ukraine's use of weapons provided by Western allies. Germany has affirmed Ukraine's right to use these weapons against attacks originating from Russian positions just over the border.

The German government stated, "Together with its closest allies and in consultation with Ukraine, it is continually adapting its support to developments in the war."

The statement emphasised Ukraine's right to self-defence under international law, particularly against Russian attacks on the Kharkiv region.

"For this, it can also use the weapons delivered for that purpose in accordance with its international legal commitments, including the ones delivered by us,” the German government added.

Similarly, US President Joe Biden has given Kyiv the go-ahead to use American-supplied weapons against Russian military assets targeting Kharkiv.

Russia Using 'Mad Max' War Bikes in Attempt to Dodge Ukraines' Killer Drones

Ukrainian troops have used US-supplied Himars missiles to destroy an advanced air defence system inside Russia, as the Kremlin warned Washington it could suffer “fatal consequences” for backing the cross-border attacks. :clapper::clapper:

Several missiles are understood to have hit an air defence installation in the Russian town of Belgorod that was equipped with S-300/400 surface-to-air missiles.

Photos of the aftermath of the attack, which is believed to have happened on Sunday, show vehicles on fire and billowing out smoke.

On Monday, Sergei Ryabkov, Moscow’s deputy foreign minister, said that the US would face “fatal consequences” if it allowed Ukraine to use American weapons for attacks inside Russia.

The US has so far allowed Kyiv to hit targets within Russia only if they pose an immediate threat to Ukrainian forces.

It’s not clear if the strike on Belgorod breaches the limits the US has imposed on the weapons, but Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, has requested permission to use US munitions for long range strikes.

On Monday, those wishes were echoed by Dmytro Kuleba, the foreign minister, who told his Estonian counterpart Ukraine was pressing its allies “on expanding the scope of its application”.

“It is not 100 per cent, you know, clearance. It comes with some rules that need to be followed,” he said at a press conference.
‘Don’t underestimate the rebuff’

Ukraine has argued that in not allowing it to fire long range weapons into Russia, its allies are hamstringing its defence.

Mr Zelensky said: “So they have these weapons there and they do not remove them because they know that Ukraine cannot target them with Western weaponry even if they fire against us.”

Ukraine’s supporters fear striking inside Russia will drag them closer to direct conflict with Moscow.

Mr Ryabkov warned the US to take a more serious approach to conflict, risking miscalculation if they don’t.

“I urge these figures [in the US] ... to spend some of their time, which they apparently spend on some kind of video games, judging by the lightness of their approach, on studying what was said in detail by Putin,” Mr Ryabkov said.

“I would like to warn American leaders against miscalculations that could have fatal consequences. For unknown reasons, they underestimate the seriousness of the rebuff they may receive,” he added.

Vladimir Putin said the West would be directly involved in any use of its weapons by Ukraine to strike deep inside Russia, because such attacks would require its satellite, intelligence and military help.

Attacks over the border have stepped up dramatically in recent weeks after Russian forces launched a renewed ground offensive into Ukraine’s north-east.

Ukraine has responded with attacks of its own. Among the most recent was one with drones that destroyed a convoy of 15 Russian trucks, according to footage recorded by the brigades involved in the attack.

On Monday, Mr Kuleba said Russia was trying to dissuade countries from participating in a Ukraine peace summit to be held in Switzerland later this month.

He said Russia was aiming to discredit the summit publicly, convince countries not to participate and urge those intent on going to send low-level representatives.

Russia has begun equipping more assault groups with inexpensive civilian vehicles

Russia is using "Mad Max" bikes to dodge Ukrainian drones after losing more than 15,000 armoured vehicles - as their war supplies continue to dwindle.

The armed vehicles have been mocked online

According to the Ukrainian Centre for Defence, the Russians are “employing light vehicles such as motorcycles and ATVs to quickly traverse the distance from their attack launch positions to the front lines of the Ukrainian defence forces.” However, these vehicles are extremely vulnerable to Ukrainian artillery, missiles, and drones.

Images have emerged of the bikes with sidecars and bizarre metal cages covering them - along with some camouflage netting. They've been compared to the vehicles used in the post-apocalyptic Mad Max film franchise but the 70-horsepower ATV or a 50-horsepower motorbike is unable to withstand much armour without losing its speed.

They were first deployed in Spring but they were “beaten in the teeth,” according to the Ukrainian 79th Air Assault Brigade. “The armoured motorcycle was one of the many concepts that died with the interwar era,” Tanks Encyclopedia told Forbes.

“Their increased weight and relatively high cost, coupled with limited combat potential, meant that their place in armoured fighting vehicle history resulted in little more than a footnote.”

It comes as Ukraine imposed emergency power shutdowns in most of the country on Sunday, a day after Russia unleashed large-scale attacks on energy infrastructure and claimed it made gains in the eastern Donetsk province.

The shutdowns were in place in all but three regions of Ukraine following Saturday’s drone and missile attack on energy targets that injured at least 19 people.

Comparisons have been made with "Mad Max"

Ukraine’s state-owned power grid operator Ukrenergo said the shutdowns affected both industrial and household consumers. Sustained Russian attacks on Ukraine’s power grid in recent weeks have forced the government to institute nationwide rolling blackouts.

Without adequate air defences to counter assaults and allow for repairs, though, the shortages could still worsen as need spikes in late summer and the bitter-cold winter. Among the most significant recent strikes were an April barrage that damaged Kyiv’s largest thermal power plant and a massive attack on May 8 that targeted power generation and transmission facilities in several regions.

Following Saturday’s barrage, Ukraine’s air force said Sunday that air defences had shot down all 25 drones launched overnight. Russia claimed Sunday that it had taken control of the village of Umanske in the partially Russian-occupied Donetsk region.

Russia’s coordinated new offensive has centred on Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region, but seems to include testing Ukrainian defences in Donetsk farther south, while also launching incursions in the northern Sumy and Chernihiv regions.

In Russia, six people were injured in shelling in the city of Shebekino in the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine, regional Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov said Sunday.

He also said that a local official, the deputy head of the Korochansky district, had been killed by “detonation of ammunition.” He gave no details. In the neighbouring Kursk region, three people were injured Sunday when an explosive device was dropped from a drone, according to acting regional head Alexey Smirnov.

The frigate Admiral Gorshkov, part of the Russian naval detachment visiting Cuba, arriving at Havana's harbour on Wednesday.

A fleet of Russian warships has arrived in the bay of Havana, in a visit seen as a show of strength amid tensions with the west over support for Ukraine.

Four vessels, including the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan and the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, entered Havana Bay early on Wednesday, where they offered a 21-gun salute that was reciprocated from the battlements of La Cabaña, the fortress where Che Guevara once had his office.

En route to Cuba this week, the Gorshkov and the Kazan had conducted missile drills in the Atlantic, testing precision missiles at targets at a range of more than 600km (370 miles), according to Russia’s ministry of defence.

The ships were met by a sparse Cuban crowd on Havana’s famous corniche, the Malecón, but there was a strong showing from Russian diplomats and their families who waved Russian flags and shouted: “Russia! Russia!”

The visit was announced last week by Cuban officials who said that such visits from friendly countries were standard practice, that the Kazan carried no nuclear weapons and there was no threat to the region.

Havana is just 100 miles from Key West, Florida, and the timing of the visit suggests more than “standard practice”, said William Leogrande, a professor at American University.

“The visiting Russian warships are Putin’s way of reminding Biden that Moscow can challenge Washington in its own sphere of influence,” Leogrande told the AP.

Gustavo Rivero González had come to witness the arrivals. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime situation,” he said. “I didn’t live through the 1962 [Cuban missile] crisis. We’re living in a moment when the powers are pushing at each other.”

Antonio Mart*nez, who was trying to sell a three-peso note bearing Guevara’s face, was more vocal.

“It’s ridiculous,” he said. “There are five million Cubans in Miami. We’re much closer to the United States. And right now we are starving.”

G7 Agree $50BIL MORE Aid For Ukraine From RUSSIAs' Sanctioned Frozen Money

Joe Biden Says Democracies Can Deliver as G7 Agree $50BIL Ukraine Aid Deal

Leaders of the G7 reached an agreement that will mobilise an extra $50BIL (£39BIL) of aid to Ukraine using frozen Russian state assets.

President hails breakthrough as US and Ukraine also announce 10-year bilateral security agreement

Speaking at the G7 summit in Puglia, Italy, on Thursday, Biden hailed the breakthrough as he met Ukraine’s president Volodymr Zelenskiy and announced the two countries had also signed a 10-year bilateral security agreement, ending 12 months of difficult negotiations.

“We are putting our money to work for Ukraine, and giving another reminder to Putin that we are not backing down,” Biden said at a joint press conference with the Ukrainian leader.

Biden said arrangements were being made to provide Ukraine with five Patriot missile defence systems, saying: “Everything we have is going to Ukraine until its needs are met.”

But he ruled out US weapons being used to strike deeper into Russia beyond the weapons bases being used to strike the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. “In terms of longer range of weapons into the interior of Russia we are not changing our positions,” he said.

Zelenskiy described the deal as the “strongest agreement” struck since his country’s independence in 1991. “Today is a truly historic day,” he said.

The Ukrainian leader described the security guarantee as “a very detailed legally binding agreement” that lasts not just for the duration of the war but afterwards, too. He said the deal covers intelligence cooperation and the strengthening of Ukrainian defence industries.

Zelenskiy said he had been given undertakings by the Chinese president Xi Jinping that Beijing would not sell weapons to Russia. “He gave me his word,” he said. But Biden argued that China, by supplying technology and dual-use components, was in fact arming Russia.

Earlier in the day, Biden sought to rally western political leaders as they face an unprecedented attack from the populist right, saying: “We stand at an inflection point in history that occurs every five or six, seven generations, and the decisions that we make now will determine the course of our future.

“I’m proud to announce we have mobilised more than $50bn in investments around the world. Together we are showing democracies can deliver.”

His remarks came as the G7 reached an outline provisional deal to use the profits derived from frozen Russian sovereign assets to underwrite a $50bn loan to Ukraine designed to help fend off the impact of Russian military attacks.
