Sir Keir Starmer is ok to take lavish freebies including posh seats at football matches because he works hard and deserves 'a little bit of relaxation', a senior Cabinet minister claimed today.
Jonathan Reynolds said he has 'no objection' to the Prime Minister receiving more than ?100,000 of gifts since the election, more than any other MP.
Sir Keir is under fire for accepting the use of a luxury box at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium when he wants to watch his beloved Gunners.
He is also facing criticism over 'wardrobegate' revelations that he and his wife Victoria accepted clothes and personal shopper services worth thousands from a Labour donor, Lord Alli.
The allegations have seen him dubbed 'Free Gear Keir' by his critics, with reports today claiming the PM also used the peer's ?18million penthouse during the election campaign.
But on a media round this morning, Mr Reynolds tried to play down the row, saying that ministers work very hard and were entitled to take some time off with their families.
He told Times Radio: 'I can tell you having been a secretary of state for two months, pretty much every working hour of it is spent working.
'And if people get the chance for a little bit of relaxation as part of that, again, I've no problem or objection to that.'

Keir Starmer has claimed he accepted 20,000 in donations for accommodation because his son needed somewhere to revise for his GCSEs while his family home was besieged by journalists during the election campaign.
The Prime Minister defended his decision to take gifts from Labour peer Lord Alli. He said he was not going to apologise for not doing anything wrong? and the freebies did not cost the taxpayer a penny.
But Starmer signalled he could continue to accept hospitality from donors, saying that it was a matter of judgment for individual MPs whether they receive certain kinds of donations.
In a series of broadcast interviews following his speech to the Labour Party annual conference, he also said the transition to Downing Street had been really difficult for his two children, who were previously raised in North London....DUH...

UK will give sovereignty of Chagos Islands to Mauritius
The UK has announced it is giving up sovereignty of a remote but strategically important cluster of islands in the Indian Ocean after more than half a century.
The deal reached after years of negotiations - will see the UK hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius in a historic move.
This includes the tropical atoll of Diego Garcia, used by the US government as a military base for its navy ships and long-range bomber aircraft.
The announcement, made in a joint statement by the UK and Mauritian Prime Ministers, ends decades of often fractious negotiations between the two countries.
The US-UK base will remain on Diego Garcia a key factor enabling the deal to go forward at a time of growing geopolitical rivalries in the region between Western countries, India, and China.

Creepy Labour peer Lord Alli is under investigation by the Lords commissioner over alleged non-registration of interests leading to a possible breach of the members code of conduct.
The intervention comes after Sir Keir Starmer became embroiled in a donations row last month over freebies accepted from Lord Alli.
The Parliament website states he is being investigated for alleged non-registration of interests leading to potential breaches of paragraphs 14(a) and 17 of the 13th edition of the code of conduct for members of the House of Lords.
These rules relate to making clear what the interests are that might be reasonably thought to influence a members parliamentary actions and ensuring entries are up to date.
It is a fresh blow to Sir Keir as the attention around donations by the peer had started to subside.
Lord Alli gave the Prime Minister 32,000 pounds to pay for clothing, as well as thousands of pounds for designer clothing for his wife Victoria, and work clothing to Angela Rayner, the Deputy Prime Minister.
The peer also lent Sir Keir the use of an 18 million poundpenthouse, where he watched election night, and gave Labour the use of a Soho townhouse for strategy meetings.

BRUTAL and SAVAGE - UKs HARD AS NAILS chancellor raises taxes by ?40 billion in first Budget
GPs, care homes and hospices have voiced concerns about the impact of the rise in employer National Insurance contributions announced in the Budget.
The NHS and rest of the public sector are exempt from the tax rise - but that does not cover private care homes or hospices which provide NHS services.
There is also confusion over the impact on GPs, many of which are run as small businesses.
The Department for Health and Social Care said further details for GPs will be confirmed in due course - but a Treasury minister told the BBC they will have to pay the tax hike.
Dr David Wrigley, a GP and deputy chair at the British Medical Association, said the impact of the tax rise would be "monumental".

He said on X that many were "already on a financial tight rope" and called for a "rapid announcement of full reimbursement".
Paul Stanley, a manager at a small GP surgery in Northumberland, said a practice of his size would see a bill of more than ?40,000 a year after the tax increase.
He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the "unfunded increase" in staffing costs could "ultimately impact on our resources and staffing levels".
Shropshire GP Dr Jess Harvey echoed Mr Stanley's concerns.
"Unless we're being given suitable remuneration to cover this National Insurance inflation, we're going to really struggle," she said.
"If we don't get enough money to continue to run these practices, then we're not going to be able to provide the service that people need."
Mike Padgham, chair of the Independent Care Group, which represents social care providers, said the sector had been "left out in the cold".
"We now employ collectively, more than the NHS - 1.7 million people. So those extra charges are going to hit charities and private sector providers alike when we've been squeezed by local authorities who are themselves short of cash.
"So if we pay more, we'll have to charge more."
Geoff Butcher, the owner of a company which runs six care homes, said the tax increase will cost ?200,000 a year, representing 50% of his firm's free cash.
He told the Today programme he fears he will "almost certainly" have to pause planned renovations in light of the increased contributions.
"I think it will exacerbate the speed of closure of homes," he said.
Hospices UK said those providing NHS services should be treated the same as NHS bodies.

Jeremy Clarkson may have slipped a disc but he is determined to join some 20,000 farmers on Tuesday when they stage one of the biggest protest rallies of Sir Keir Starmers premiership.
The Clarksons Farm presenter told The Telegraph that he was barely moveable after a back injury but he hoped to get there somehow, though he will let the presence of thousands of farmers outside Parliament speak for itself.

BUT Telegraph analysis shows the Prime Minister will be stung by his own measure as he seeks to employ four new housekeepers on salaries of 30,135 per year at his Downing Street home.
From April, employers will see the rate of National Insurance they pay on workers earnings rise from 13.8pc to 15pc. The salary threshold at which it kicks in will also fall from 9,100 to 5,000.
It means the total National Insurance bill for Starmers four new cleaners will rise by ?3,465 to 15,076 per year. BUT Taxpayers will have to pay the bill

Labour is continuing to hand out more than 500m to foreign farmers as it faces criticism for destroying British farms with its inheritance tax raid.
Fresh analysis shows more than 536m is being spent across ten programmes in Africa, Asia, and South America, including in Brazil, the worlds 11th-richest country, where low-carbon agriculture is being funded.
Many of the schemes stretch for more than a decade, with one 206m plan running until 2031 having launched in 2012.

The RIP British Farming protest has been organised by Kent Fairness for Farmers and Save British Farming in response to the ?toxic? Budget, which included changes to inheritance tax for agricultural businesses and a faster phaseout of EU-era subsidies in favour of environmental payments.
After 13,000 people rallied in Westminster against the Budget last month, tractors are expected to travel into the capital from across the country, including from Exmoor, Shropshire, Somerset and the home counties, for the latest protest.

Keir Starmer has been dealt a fresh blow over his crumbling controversial plan to hand over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius.
The prime minister of Mauritius, Dr Navin Ramgoolam, has announced that the deal is not good enough and wants to reopen talks.
Embarrassingly, the announcement came less than an hour after a written parliamentary answer from the Foreign Office (FCDO) claiming that Dr Ramgoolam had written to confirm he was happy with the arrangement.
The Independent has also seen a letter from Tory shadow foreign secretary Priti Patel and shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge demanding a rethink on the deal and calling for the government to release basic facts about the agreement.
The islands are the home to the highly secretive UK/US airbase on Diego Garcia, and there had also been concerns Mauritius would allow China to build a base on one of the other islands.
Additionally, it was still not clear whether nuclear weapons would be allowed at Diego Garcia if Mauritius owned the island because it is part of the nuclear weapons-free zone treaty.

With just over a week until Christmas, the charts are packed with festive classics. But Sir Keir Starmer might do a double-take at a new entry.
A song parodying the Prime Minister by ?Sir Starmer and the Granny Harmers? is topping music downloads charts as a campaign gets underway to make it Christmas number one.
However, the musicians behind the unlikely festive hit say their efforts are being thwarted by broadcasters refusing to give it airtime on the radio.
The track Freezing This Christmas is based on Muds 1974 festive number one, Lonely This Christmas. It mocks Labours decision to strip 10 million pensioners of the winter fuel payment.

Labour has scrapped a doctor apprenticeship scheme that helps underprivileged students train without taking on debt...
Medical doctor apprenticeships were launched under the previous Conservative government in 2023 to help make the profession more accessible, more diverse and more representative of local communities
As well as having to pay no tuition fees, apprentices were also paid a salary that rose from ?14,606 in their first year to ?22,038 in their final year, equating to almost ?94,000 across their five years of study.
To earn their salary, apprentices were expected to work up to 15 weeks per year on wards in their local NHS trust alongside their study that took place with undergraduate students at university.
But The Telegraph understands universities were told last month the scheme is to be ?paused in perpetuity? and to cancel plans to recruit new apprentices for next September.
It comes after Sir Keir Starmer announced his government would pull funding for all apprenticeships at a masters-level at the Labour party conference in September.
Under Conservative plans, the scheme was to be expanded to 200 apprenticeships in its second year with 2,000 offered by 2031-32.

The British Medical Association questioned whether a programme could be created that balanced the needs of the apprenticeship and the same high standards of training experienced by traditional medical students
However NHS bosses maintained apprentices would have to pass the same exams as other medical students and meet all other criteria to qualify as a doctor as set out by the General Medical Council.
The first cohort of apprentices began in September with approximately 20 students accepted at both Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge and the University of Plymouth....

Rachel Reeves policies are in stark contrast to her views before Labour came to power - I do not want to live in a country where so many people are priced out of heating their homes in the winter, or having to choose between sitting in a freezing cold flat and putting food on their table.
Those are the words of Rachel Reeves when she sat on the opposition benches in 2018.
Fast-forward seven years, and her decision to axe the winter fuel payment for 10 million pensioners has left scores of retirees shivering at the start of 2025.
Charities have warned that Labours chilling policy has resulted in pensioners being admitted to hospital with pneumonia, and there were fears that the weekends cold snap would pose a danger to life as temperatures were tipped to plummet to as low as -10C.
Simon Francis, of the End Fuel Poverty Coalition, said the Chancellor had forgotten about the concerns of adults living in Dickensian conditions.
He said: When the Chancellor made the remarks in 2018, average energy bills were ?700 less than they are today. Even then around three million households were in fuel poverty.

Gerry Adams is in line for taxpayer-funded compensation because of Sir Keir Starmer?s human rights plans, senior peers have warned.
The former Sinn Fein president is set to benefit from a decision by the Government to repeal Troubles legislation.
The current law blocks his claim for compensation over his detention in prison in the 1970s for suspected involvement in terrorism.
But Sir Keirs plans will reverse two sections of the 2023 Northern Ireland Troubles Act which denied Mr Adams and up to 400 other IRA suspects also detained in the 1970s the right to claim compensation.
The move has been agreed because a Northern Irish high court ruled that the legislation was incompatible with human rights laws.
The move has been branded unacceptable by IRA bombing victims.

There are fears that pubs could be forced to ban customers from discussing controversial issues due to Labours planned workers rights reforms.
The equalities watchdog has warned the government rules could curtail freedoms and could even extend to overheard conversations.
The proposals aim to protect workers from being harassed by third parties whilst at their place of work with people at risk of being sued if found to do so.
However the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has warned of the ambiguity of the proposals and the difficulty involving a philosophical belief in issues such as rights or religion, citing that many business owners do not understand that such topics are protected by law.
They said: The legal definition of what amounts to philosophical belief is complex and not well understood by employers.

Farmers have today accused Keir Starmer and Reeves of wiping out Britains next farming generation as hundreds of tractors took over Milton Keynes and Westminster in a protest against planned changes to inheritance tax.
Hundreds of tractors descended on the capital just hours before MPs are due to debate a petition calling for current tax exemptions for working farms to remain in place.
Speaking from Westminster, angry farmers accused the Prime Minister of killing off the next generation of farmers with families claiming they will be forced to sell their land to avoid a hefty tax bill.
One said: This Labour policy will kill British farming and kill our food security. We cant be dependant on other countries. I could be the generation that loses it, its heartbreaking and soul destroying.

DOPEY PM Starmeris facing major pressure to reveal the true cost of his deal to surrender the UKs last territory in the Indian Ocean, amid growing anger at the cost to the UK taxpayer.
The Prime Minister confirmed today that the UK plans to hand the Chagos Islands to Mauritius under a deal that will cost taxpayers an average of 101million a year for almost a century.
But he said that the total cost of the agreement, which will see the UK lease back the Diego Garcia air base for 99 years, would be just 3.4billion.
Documents released today show that the UK will actually pay Mauritius 165million a year for the first three years to lease Diego Garcia, which is used by the United States.
It falls to 120million a year for the following decade and then 120million adjusted for inflation for the rest of the 99 year lease.
However the documents also show Britain will also pay 45million a year for 25 years more than 1.1 billion in total into a fund for projects that promote the ongoing economic development and welfare of Mauritius and its people....
YET many Brits are STRUGGLING
There is also a one off fund of 40million to help Chagossians displaced by the creation of the base in the 1970s.
Some reports suggest the true cost of the handover will be closer to 30billion in cash terms, assuming an average of 2 per cent inflation, at a time when the government has cut winter fuel payments for pensioners and is maintaining a cap on child benefits.
That figure is also three times the annual GDP of Mauritius.
Tory leader Badenoch said: At least ?30 billion of taxpayers money thrown away in a Surrender Tax and likely much more, British territory handed over to a country aligned with China and our national security needlessly weakened, all to appease the lawyers and activist elite Keir Starmer surrounds himself with.

Rachel Reeves, the chancellor, confirmed on Wednesday that more pensioners will get winter fuel payments reinstated this year after weeks of uncertainty over the governments decision to make a Uturn on scrapping the benefit.
Ministers are looking at restoring the payments as a universal benefit and then recouping the money when high income pensioners fill in their tax returns, as creating a new means test would be a highly complex option.
However, government insiders are concerned about a time lag of at least six months between the payment of up to ?300 being made and it then being clawed back. It is feared that thousands could have died in that time, leaving grieving families to pick up the bill.
One source said: We should never have scrapped the winter fuel payment in the first place, but the whole process of reinstating it has been completely chaotic. The optics of us demanding the money back from grieving families are dire.
The chancellor has brought forward confirmation of the change to the GB11,500 income threshold over which pensioners are no longer eligible for the benefit to next weeks spending review from the autumn budget, after a backlash against one of the most unpopular policies of the Labour government.

Angela Rayner could struggle to pay the mortgage on her new GB800,000 home in Hove after having her salary slashed following her departure from Sir Keir Starmers Cabinet, it has been reported.
The axed Deputy Prime Minister will see her salary reduce from GB161,409 to GB93,904 as she loses the additional income she received while serving as Housing and Communities Secretary.
Ms Rayner also faces having to pay back the GB40,000 stamp duty she owes, plus interest, and her political rivals are calling on her to forfeit her GB16,876 severance payment.

A spokeswoman for the Chancellor as soon as it was brought to her attention by The Daily Mail she took immediate action and has applied for the licence
The Chancellor made an extraordinary admission last night that she had misled the PM and his sleaze adviser over whether she knew a licence was needed to rent out her family home.
Emails showed that in fact the lettings agency informed Ms Reeves' husband that one was required under Southwark Council's rules - although he was also told the firm would take care of the process.
Initially Ms Reeves was adamant that she had not been made aware that a licence was necessary.
