Calls for Police to Probe Prince Charles Aide Over Cash for Honours Scandal

The future King’s former valet Michael Fawcett has temporarily stepped down as chief executive of the Prince’s Foundation following the accusations

BBC News 6 SEP 2021.

Police have been asked to open a criminal investigation into an alleged cash for honours scandal involving one of Prince Charles’ closest aides.

Michael Fawcett is claimed to have helped arrange a CBE for businessman Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz.

Leaked emails suggest Mr Mahfouz, 51, was “promised” an honour after he donated £1.5million to restoration projects of interest to Charles, 72.

The prince awarded him a CBE in 2016 at a private ceremony that was not on the list of royal engagements.

Ex-Lib Dem MP Norman Baker said: “The idea Michael Fawcett was doing things Prince Charles knew nothing about is nonsense.

“Those two are like Tweedledum and Tweedledee – they speak three or four times a day.

Earlier today, Mr Fawcett refused to answer questions while walking near his London home after claims about his conduct were published in the Sunday Times and Mail on Sunday.

Mr Baker has emailed Met Police chief Cressida Dick asking for an inquiry.

He added: “I said I would draw her attention to the evidence of an offence under the Honours Act 1925.

“The suggestion there might be money in return for support for citizenship is potentially a corruption offence.”

Mr Mahfouz’s family made a fortune in the Middle East in the hotel, property and manufacturing industries.

It is suggested there were discussions about the prospect of an honour in 2011.

He later attended talks with the prince and Mr Fawcett at Clarence House.

Emails by adviser William Bortrick hint at the alleged “bargain” and in 2014 he told colleagues once his boss has “Hon OBE... then more money will flow.”

Mr Bortrick claimed the honour was “promised to MBM [Mahfouz Bin Mahfouz] to get the £1.5m he paid for Dumfries [House] and [Castle of] Mey.”

He added: “MF [Michael Fawcett] needs to keep to his side of the bargain and sort out the Hon OBE immediately; then assist with citizenship.”

Prince Charles helped buy Dumfries House in 2007 while Mey is one of his Scottish holiday residences.

Mr Mahfouz is one of the top donors to the prince’s charities and in 2015 a forest at the Queen Mother’s Highland retreat was renamed “Mahfouz Wood”.

At the time it was reported he donated £370,000 to the charitable trust that runs the Castle of Mey. The royals face being engulfed by the new alleged scandal after sex claims about Prince Andrew, which he denies, while Prince Harry ’s claims about racist conversations left the Palace reeling.

Sources say Prince Charles has been told of the inquiry into Mr Fawcett, who became a footman to the Queen in 1981.

Dr Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz

Douglas Connell, chair of the Prince’s Foundation, added: “Michael fully supports the ongoing investigation.”

A spokesman for the Met Police said they are “aware” of the allegations but could not comment further at this time.

A source told the BBC the prince was not aware of links between donations to his education foundation and honours

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said all honours nominations face rigorous scrutiny.

In 2003, Mr Fawcett was cleared of claims on the selling of royal gifts.

He resigned after a report criticised the running of the royal household but continued to work as Prince Charles’ events manager.

Thumbs Up Re: The ROYALS: Queen Elisabeth in Hospital Stay-Now Back at Windsor Castle

The Queen Back at Windsor After Hospital Stay

The Queen spent Wednesday night in hospital for preliminary medical checks and is now back at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace has said.

BBC News 22 OCT 2021.

The 95-year-old monarch returned from the private hospital in central London at lunchtime on Thursday and is "in good spirits", the palace added.

The Queen had cancelled a visit to Northern Ireland on Wednesday.

She was given medical advice to rest for a few days after a busy schedule of public engagements.

In a statement on Thursday night, Buckingham Palace said: "Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits."

The Queen travelled by car to the King Edward VII's Hospital in Marylebone, about 19 miles (32km) from Windsor, where she was seen by specialists. Her admittance is understood not to be related to coronavirus.

The overnight stay was said to be for practical reasons and the Queen was back at her desk undertaking light duties on Thursday afternoon.

It is the first time the Queen has stayed in hospital since 2013, when she suffered symptoms of gastroenteritis.

The King Edward VII's is a private hospital used by senior royals - including the Queen's husband, the late Duke of Edinburgh, who received treatment there earlier this year.

Analysis box by Sarah Campbell, Royal correspondent

The news on Wednesday that the Queen would have to cancel a trip to Northern Ireland was always going to cause concern.

Despite looking very well and happy at the numerous events she has attended over the past week, it cannot be forgotten that she is 95 years old.

It is a tricky balance for the palace to release enough details about the Queen's health to keep the public informed while maintaining the privacy to which she is entitled.

It was for this reason that the news that she had been taken to hospital for tests was not announced, until a report on the Sun newspaper's front page forced the palace's hand.

People will be concerned, but the reassuring guidance remains that she is in "good spirits" on her return from hospital and is well enough to undertake some light duties.

It has been a busy period of official engagements for the Queen.

An official record of the Queen's diary showed at least 16 formal events during October, and there had been the plans for her to embark on the two-day trip to Northern Ireland this week.

She was pictured hosting a Global Investment Summit at Windsor Castle on Tuesday evening alongside Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

However, on Wednesday a Buckingham Palace spokesman said the monarch had "reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days".

He said the Queen was "disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland" - which would have involved an overnight stay.

The Queen's October Engagements

The Queen began the month in Scotland, planting a tree with the Prince of Wales at the Balmoral Estate on 1 October and attending the opening of the sixth session of the Scottish Parliamentin Edinburgh the following day.

The Queen was accompanied by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall as she greeted First Minister Nicola Sturgeon

The following week, she met members of the Canadian military at Windsor Castle on 6 October and attended the launch of the Commonwealth Games baton relay at Buckingham Palace on 7 October.

The Queen was joined by Prince Edward for the start of the relay

The Queen was joined by the Princess Royal for the service at Westminster Abbey

She then travelled to Wales to open the sixth term of the Senedd on Thursday.

The Queen was pictured alongside Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday

Last week, on 12 October, she attended a church service to mark the centenary of The Royal British Legion at Westminster Abbey.
The Queen praised the spirit of the people of Wales during the pandemic during her visit

By Saturday she was back in England - attending Champions Day at Ascot racecourse in Berkshire.

The Queen is expected to lead a royal delegation to the Glasgow COP26 climate change summit in two weeks' time.

In reported remarks overheard at an event last week, she appeared to suggest she was irritated by people who "talk" but "don't do" when it came to protecting the environment.

Earlier this week, the Queen declined a magazine's award of Oldie of the Year, saying "you are only as old as you feel".

She "politely but firmly" turned down the award, but sent the Oldie magazine a message with her "warmest best wishes".

European Union Re: The ROYALS: Camilla, Who Destroyed Princess Diana, Set For Royal Promotion

Camilla Set For Royal Promotion With Central Role Next Year as Queen Rests

Camilla Has Risen up The Ranks of The ROYAL Family After Destroying Princess Diana, Queen of Hearts. Camilla was Dubbed Queen of Tarts

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, are being called on to take the lead in areas that would usually fall to the head of state

Daily Mirror 21 NOV 2021

The Queen has been reducing her engagements to rest

Princess Diana, Queen of Hearts.

Earlier this week her and Charles visited Jordan and Egypt on a trip to boost post-Brexit Britain to the world.

Prince Charles's wife Camilla will be a key figure in the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations next year as she rises in rank within the Royal Family.

The Duchess of Cornwall will lead the "Big Jubilee Lunch" on the final day of the special four-day Bank Holiday Weekend to celebrate the monarch's 70-year reign.

The lunch is central to the celebration and a nationwide event where Brit families and friends will meet up for street parties and sit-down meals to honour Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

The Queen, 95, has been undertaking less duties after a series of health scares, including a back sprain last week which forced her to be absent at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.

The "Magnificent Seven" senior working royals will be filling in for the Queen for as long as needed, it has been reported.

A Palace source told the Mail On Sunday : ‘This is part of a range of events taking place but it means Camilla will have a central role in leading the nation in the celebrations in a sign of her growing responsibilities.’

The Duchess of Cornwall will lead the Big Jubilee Lunch to celebrate the Queen's 70-year reign

They added last night: ‘The Duchess is increasingly comfortable in the role and confident doing the job. She knows very well what it involves.’

And now that she is in the public eye more often, she has been spotted decked out in bespoke clothes to match her new profile.

At a horse club charity she patrons yesterday, Camilla donned a tailored tweed and velvet coat with matching skirt, a regal wool and faux-fur hat, and a Fendi handbag which fetches a princely penny at £3,700.

Camilla stopped to chat with reporters and told them about her favourite spot on the tour, which she said was where Christ was baptised.

She said: ‘It was extraordinary, something you read about. To actually go down there, you know, and experience it. It was really quite spiritual.’

Charles and Camilla made only 30 royal engagements, and also split off to make some solo appearances solo, with the duchess visiting deprived areas of Amman and Cairo.

A source close to the Duchess told the Mail on Sunday: ‘This is about showing the world what the Royal Family can do. Camilla is building up years of work in the Middle East, which is vital for Britain and the world.’

But Camilla may not be as happy as she appears about the new position.

Earlier this week a royal author claimed the duchess is "dreading" having the spotlight thrown on her when Charles becomes King.

Camilla was Dubbed Queen of Tarts

Camilla has been described as a "normal woman" who will one day become the King's consort when Charles ascends to the throne.

And according to royal biographer Penny Junor, when Charles does become monarch, it will be a "very difficult time" for Camilla.

Penny told the Telegraph : “She is a normal woman who, because of her relationship with Charles, has found herself in an abnormal situation.

“I don’t think titles do it for her, and the prospect of being Queen or Princess Consort, the fuss there will be at the time, the comparisons to Diana, it will be a very difficult time for her.

“My feeling is that she will be Queen rather than Princess Consort because Charles is so proud of her and so grateful to her and loves her so much that he would find it difficult to give her a lesser title. It would be demeaning."

However, Penny adds that public opinion will play its part in deciding Camilla's title - especially if Prince Harry drops bombshells or if TV show The Crown "paints her in a bad light".

Update Re: The ROYALS: Prince Charles Calls Lawyers Re Claim He's Racist on Archis' Skin Col

Prince Charles Calls Lawyers Over Claim He is Royal Racist Mentioned in Oprah Interview

Prince Harry and Meghan made headlines across the world in March when they suggested a senior member of the royal family asked what colour Archis' skin would be. Buckingham Palace has denied it was Prince Charles

BBC News 29 NOV 2021.

Prince Charles has reportedly called in his lawyers after he was accused of being the 'royal racist' alluded to by Harry and Meghan in their bombshell Oprah interview.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are joined by her mother, Doria Ragland, as they show Archie his royal great grandparents

The couple made headlines across the world in March when they suggested a senior member of the royal family asked what colour Archie's skin would be.

A spokesperson for the Prince of Wales has strongly denied the claims, stating: “This is fiction and not worth further comment.”

The book claims Charles questioned what his grandchild's complexion might look like during a conversation with wife Camilla over breakfast.

The alleged discussion supposedly took place on the morning Harry and Meghan's engagement was officially announced, November 27, 2017, the book states.

A source told the royal author that Charles allegedly said to Camilla: "I wonder what the children will look like."

The book claims she was "somewhat taken aback" by the comment, and responded: "Well, absolutely gorgeous, I'm certain."

The insider also claimed Charles then lowered his voice and asked: "I mean, what do you think their children's complexion might be?"

Claims Prince Charles asked about colour of Archie’s skin branded ‘fiction'

Andersen wrote that “scheming courtiers” then gave Charles’ alleged words “a racist spin”.

A Page Six report claimed the alleged conversation then “reached toxic proportions” by the time Harry and Meghan were informed.

Charles, according to The Sun, is calling in the lawyers over the claims in the book.

The news adds fuel to the fire around the famous interview the royals did with Oprah Winfrey in March

An insider told The Sun: “The claims are utterly ridiculous.

“There is more of a concern that commenting on it will simply sell more books than actually damage Charles’ reputation.”

Buckingham Palace said last night: “We don’t comment on books of this kind as to do so risks giving it some form of authority or credibility.”

After the interview with Oprah in March, Harry agreed and said he would "never share" the full details of the discussion.

Oprah later revealed it was not the Queen or the Duke of Edinburgh who made the comment, telling CBS This Morning:

"He did not share the identity with me but he wanted to make sure I knew, and if I had an opportunity to share it, that it was not his grandmother or grandfather that were part of those conversations."

First Picture of Teen Crossbow Suspect Who Wanted to ASSASSINATE The Queen

Jaswant Singh Chail, 19, from Southampton UK, was arrested when security officers reportedly spotted him scaling the perimeter fence and called armed police to the scene on Christmas Day

BBC News 28 DEC 2021.

The teenager suspected of scaling Windsor Castle armed with a crossbow to try and "assassinate the Queen" on Christmas Day has been pictured for the first time.

Jaswant Singh Chail, 19, posted a video on Christmas Day of a hooded figure threatening to kill the Queen.

The man, wearing a white mask and black tracksuit, said: “I’m sorry for what I’ve done and what I will do.

“I will attempt to assassinate Elizabeth, Queen of the Royal Family.”

Less than half an hour after the clip was shared on Snapchat a 19-year-old man armed with a crossbow was arrested inside the castle grounds.

Disturbing footage recorded on snapchat shows a 19 year old masked man holding a crossbow threatening to ‘assassinate the Queen’ in a ‘revenge’ mission.

The shocking video allegedly shows the man, 19, accused of scaling a spiked fence with a rope ladder and crossbow at Windsor Castle on Christmas Day.

Jaswant Singh Chail was detained under the Mental Health Act following the security breach while Her Majesty was in.

The footage, obtained by The Sun, was sent from his Snapchat account 24 minutes before the incident.

In the video the man says

‘I’m sorry. I’m sorry for what I’ve done and what I will do. I will attempt to assassinate Elizabeth, Queen of the Royal Family.

‘This is revenge for those who have died in the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. It is also revenge for those who have been killed, humiliated and discriminated on because of their race.

‘I’m an Indian Sikh, a Sith. My name was Jaswant Singh Chail, my name is Darth Jones.’

Queen Reveals That Camilla Becomes 'Queen CONSORT' When Charles is KING

Queen Elizabeth announces Camilla will be 'Queen Consort' when Prince Charles ascends the throne

In a message to the nation to mark Accession Day, and the start of her Jubilee year, Her Majesty has unexpectedly expressed her "sincere wish" that Camilla will be known as Queen Consort when the Prince of Wales becomes king.

6 Feb 2022 Sky News

The Queen has used her Platinum Jubilee message to the nation to back the Duchess of Cornwall as Queen Camilla.

Queen Elizabeth II is 95, and the longest-serving monarch Britain has ever had. She's a pillar in the country, but she won't always be on the throne. In time, she'll be succeeded by her eldest son, Charles, the Prince of Wales.

But what does this mean for Charles’ wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall?

On Saturday, the queen made her stance clear that she does in fact want Camilla to be queen. She said this in a message to mark the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty's Accession.

"This anniversary also affords me a time to reflect on the goodwill shown to me by people of all nationalities, faiths and ages in this country and around the world over these years," she said. "I would like to express my thanks to you all for your support. I remain eternally grateful for, and humbled by, the loyalty and affection that you continue to give me. And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."

Camilla is Charles' second wife; he was famously married to and divorced from Diana, Princess of Wales, from 1981 to 1996. Diana died in a car crash in 1997. Charles and Camilla had known one another prior to his marriage (she was married at the time) and carried on an affair for decades after he tied the knot.

But just because Camilla is married to the future King of England, she's not guaranteed to be given the title of Queen.

“At the moment, they say that she’s going to stay a duchess, but that has no precedent in British history and has no status in British law,” British historian Andrew Roberts told TODAY in 2021.

Update re: The ROYALS: Prince William & Kate Prep For Move & New School For Prince George

Inside Prince Williams' Relationship With Camilla -HUGE Rows and Kate's Intervention

According to sources, Prince William and his stepmother Camilla did not have the easiest of starts after she married Prince Charles but now sees she makes his father happy

BBC 9 FEB. 2022. :

Prince William with his stepmother Camilla

The Queen's extraordinary statement on the eve of her Platinum Jubilee proves the Duchess of Cornwall has her full blessing to one day become Queen Consort.

And it seems another royal who now also approves of Camilla taking the title when Prince Charles is King is her stepson Prince William, who is second-in-line to the throne.

According to reports, William is said to be "happy" with his grandmother's wishes for Camilla to become Queen Consort when his dad takes the throne.

It is thought that William was not part of discussions about Camilla's title but is "respectful" of the Queen's decision.

It's believed that William's relationship with his stepmum and indeed his dad Charles has not been the easiest over the years.

However, now relations between William and the couple are said to be the best they've ever been as the Royal Family looks to the future.

So how did they turn their relationship around?

Charles and Camilla went public with their relationship in the early 2000s - several years after the death of Princess Diana - but William and brother Prince Harry were not pictured with her in public until 2001.

Love the royals? Sign up for the Mirror's daily newsletter to get all the latest news on the Queen, Charles, Kate, Wills, Meghan, Harry and the rest of The Firm. Click here to sign up.

In her book Prince William: Born to be King, a palace source tells royal biographer Penny Junor: "I think the relationship between them all is warm now but if I'm honest, it wasn't then. I think they found it hard.

"To be fair to Camilla, she never tried to be mummy but she was the 'other woman' and she was there and taking daddy's time."

Meanwhile, a source told the Daily Mail : "There were huge family rows in the early stages of Charles and Camilla's marriage as everyone found their feet. William didn't have the best relationship with his father back then."

Also in his book Battle of Brothers, royal author Robert Lacey claims that Camilla was taken back by William's temper, reports the Express.

He wrote: "Harry has freely confessed to his own blazing temper from time to time - and as for his elder brother he has proved no sweet William when roused.

"In the years after her 2005 marriage to Prince Charles, Camilla has recounted to her own family and close friends her surprise at discovering this unexpected side to Prince Charming - 'the boy's got a temper!'"

He added: "Charles's wife had been horrified at the ranting and raving that on occasion William had unleashed against her husband in her presence."

Fast-forward to today, William and Charles are said to have a much closer relationship "built on love, affection and respect".

This has apparently been forged in part by William's wife the Duchess of Cambridge, who helped smooth over father and son relations and invited Charles to spend more time with his grandchildren Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

These days William and Charles both share a passion for tackling climate change and recently William paid tribute to this father for his work in this area.

And even though William is not reported to be "particularly close" to Camilla they enjoy a good supportive relationship and he realises that she makes his dad happy.

A source told the Daily Mail: "He is not particularly close to his stepmother but they get on perfectly well and are quite the blended family now.

"He also respects his grandmother and her judgement more than anything in the world. If it is right for her, then it will be right for him."

Police to Investigate Prince Charles' Charity Over Cash For Honours Re Saudi Billionaire Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz

16 Feb 2022 Channel 4 News

When allegations about Prince Charles and his former aide, Michael Fawcett, were first published in the Sunday Times Clarence House said Charles had "no knowledge" of the alleged cash-for-honours scandal.

That was last September. Today police said Charles' charity, the Prince's Foundation, was under investigation over claims it offered honours to Saudi billionaire Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz in exchange for cash for the charity. The Metropolitan Police announced it was investigating a possible breach of the Honours Prevention of Abuses Act.

Prince Harry Cut Ties With Saudi Billionaire in Cash For Honours Row

Leaked emails show Prince Harry cut ties with billionaire in 'cash for access' row

Prince Harry distanced himself from Saudi billionaire Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz after he made certain "preconditions" around a £1million donation to an HIV charity, according to leaked messages

Daily Mail UK.20 FEB 2022.

Prince Harry distanced himself from Mahfouz in 2014 after he made preconditions around a £1m donation (Image: Mahfouz Foundation)

Prince Charles has said he is willing to speak to the police but has no knowledge of any such dealings...

Leaked emails have revealed that Prince Harry cut ties with a Saudi billionaire amid grave concerns about his "motives".

The Duke of Sussex made the mover years before the tycoon became wrapped up in a police enquiry which has engulfed the future king, Prince Charles.

Prince Charles and Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz have become joint subjects in a Metropolitan Police investigation after the Mahfouz donated £1.5million to the heir's charities, before receiving a CBE honour.

The force announced last week that it was launching the probe to investigate whether the honour was awarded in return for the cash.

But the Prince of Wales youngest son had already distanced himself from Mahfouz amid "cash for access" concerns in 2014, years before Charles accepted his generous donations.

This weekend detectives were examining a letter sent to Mahfouz’s representatives by Michael Fawcett, Charles’s longest-standing confidant and the former head of the Prince’s Foundation, in which Fawcett said he would be “very happy” to back the Saudi’s nomination for an honour, The Times reports.

Officers could also call in Clive Alderton, Charles' private secretary to understand whether the prince or Clarence House knew of these dealings between Fawcett and Mahfouz.

The Duke of Sussex was 30 when he expressed "major concerns" about Mahfouz and distanced himself just two years before his father awarded the tycoon with a CBE at a private ceremony in Buckingham Palace.

Charles, 73, had written to thank Mahfouz for his donations and visited him several times in both Britain and Saudi Arabia.

But the future king says he has “no knowledge” of any trade-off between donations and honours and that Harry’s apparent concerns were never shared with him.

Mahfouz has also denied any wrong-doing, while Fawcett, 59, Charles’s former valet, has been forced to quit his role at the Prince’s Foundation over the disclosures.

Charity watchdogs in England and Scotland have launched a joint investigation.

Scotland Yard began to look into the Prince of Wales' relationship with Mahfouz after a piece in the Sunday Times last year raised concerns about their dealings.

But the latest documents to be uncovered date back to 2014 when Prince Harry was seeking donations to Sentebale, a charity which helps children with HIV in Lethoso, southern Africa.

As charity co-founder, Harry had agreed to meet Mahfouz who was dangling a £1 million donation offer.

The donation was even drawn up in the draft charity accounts until Mahfouz suddenly announced a new 'precondition' of the offer.

Mahfouz’s representative told Mark Dyer, a Sentebale trustee and former royal equerry known as Harry’s “second dad”, that he wanted Harry to fly to the Saudi's home and meet his family before the funds were transferred.

Emails have shown there were serious concerns by royal aides about 'cash for access'

On May 31, 2014, Dyer, 54, sent the representative an email expressing his concern: “Are we really saying that if PH [Prince Harry] commits to a trip to Saudi, Sentebale will receive the donation?

“If that is the case I need to now brief the board as the accounts have all been revised and signed off on the back of receiving £1m donation.

“I am seeing PH today at Windsor; I will brief him on the situation and see if he now wants to commit to a trip, but this certainly was not our understanding . . . it is starting to bring into question ‘cash-for-access’.”

The same day, Mahfouz’s representative responded by insisting that the proposed Saudi visit had originally been mooted by Charles at the “CH meeting”, a gathering at Clarence House weeks earlier.

On that occasion, Charles was said by the Saudi's representative to have encouraged the idea of Harry visiting the Arab kingdom.

Harry appeared willing to do business with Mahfouz at the time and is even alleged to have joked: “Has father beaten me to it and got the money?”

On June 1, 2014, Dyer wrote back to Mahfouz’s fixer to say that he had spoken to the prince and had a “long chat” with his private secretary.

Dyer said: “There is a concern and we have to be very careful going forward.

"At no stage have we committed to a visit, we discussed maybe in the future meeting privately for a weekend on a boat.

“The POW [Prince of Wales] obviously mentioned it in passing conversation; that does not mean PH comes next week. He is keen for his son to see that part of the world, but not next week.

“What has now happened is a promise of a £1m donation but it now comes with a commitment to a visit ... that was not my understanding.

Prince Harry had distanced himself from the billionaire eight years ago

“I then discussed with PH and quite rightly he has a major concern that we are losing [sic] touch with what all this is about ... it’s not about M [Mahfouz] meeting PH and introducing him to his friends and [Mahfouz’s adviser] having as many photos as possible of PH on his desk... it's [sic] about the children of Lesotho and Sentebale making a difference to their lives.”

Dyer, who is a godfather to Harry’s son, Archie, continued: “There is a possibility of a visit to Saudi and if this happens PH will visit M, but to be held over a barrel, I think is wrong.

“It would be a real shame if this falls through and I think we need to start again and remember the first meeting with PH. What is now on the table is very different.”

Mahfouz continued to engage with Harry and gave at least £50,000 to Sentebale.

But neither the £1million donation nor the visit to Saudi Arabia became a reality.

Mahfouz instead increased his donations to charities connected to Charles after his aides made clear they would entertain the businessman’s desire for access.

In October 2014, Charles hosted Mahfouz for a weekend at Dumfries House, the royal residence in Ayrshire.

In 2015, they met at the British embassy in Riyadh and in 2016 Charles gave Mahfouz his CBE at Buckingham Palace.

The letter from Fawcett, now police evidence, shows that the donor was initially in line to receive an honorary OBE — but that the award was later upgraded.

Following a discussion on July 29, 2014, about potential donations worth up to £10million, Fawcett wrote to Mahfouz’s representative:

“With regard to supporting a nomination for an honorary OBE for His Excellency [Mahfouz], we would be very happy to send any such letter in due course outlining his philanthropy and ongoing generosity to the UK in heritage-led regeneration.

“I will come back to you when I have discovered more about the necessary process that needs to be followed.”

Fawcett is later alleged to have offered Mahfouz his backing to secure a knighthood and British citizenship, although these never transpired, The Times reports.

Prince William and Kate Prepare For Move and Eye up New Prep School For Prince George

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are reportedly putting the finishing touches to plans to move Prince George to a preparatory school in Berkshire

Daily Mirror 26 FEB 2022

Prince William and Kate Middleton are looking into a new prep school in Berkshire for Prince George it has been claimed.

The Royal couple are reportedly putting the finishing touches to plans to move Prince George to a preparatory school in Berkshire.

The move is expected to happen in the autumn with September earmarked as the favoured date.

Co-educational school Lambrook, near Ascot, is believed to be the front runner.

But six-year-old Princess Charlotte is expected to stay at Thomas's Battersea at the moment and is "super happy and settled" reports claimed.

Prince Louis, who is four in spring, will join her at Thomas's in the future

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are looking at properties in the Windsor area after viewing suitable family homes on the Queen's Berkshire estate, reports Daily Mail.

They are expected to live in the Royal Borough at weekends and holidays.

The Windsor location is near Kate's family home in Bucklebury where her mum and dad Michael and Carole Middleton enjoy being hands-on grandparents.

Royal watchers say the couple's weekday base will, however, remain Kensington Palace.

Anmer Hall, their Norfolk home, could then return to the Queen to pass on or rent out privately.

William and Kate are now mapping out where they want to settle down as a family.

But it could be 20 years before the couple progress to the throne and they are keen to give their children as normal childhoods as possible before that.

They royal couple have a comfortable home-office arrangement at Kensington Palace and are said to be conscious of the £4.5million cost to taxpayers of improving their 20-room apartment

George will be nine in July, but Kate and William believe he should move to an out-of-town school with facilities on campus.

Schools, either weekly or 'flexi' boarding are reported to be being considered with Ludgrove among the Berkshire schools which has been mooted

Windsor Castle has repotedly been earmarked for the Cambridges instead of Prince Charles who is said to prefer Highgrove.

William often walked from Eton to have lunch with his granny at her Berkshire residence.

The Daily Mail reports a source saying: "It's an open secret the Cambridges are looking to settle in Berkshire and George is set to leave Thomas's this summer, unless circumstances suddenly change.

"It's the talk of the county and they will, of course, be made extremely welcome.

'"they always put their children front and centre of everything they do, so finding the right school has been a priority. It's about what works for them as a family."

It is claimed no 'firm decisions' had yet been made.

The Queen & Her Prime Ministers

British Royal Documentary 28 FEB 2022

Queen Elizabeth II is one of the most famous and admired people on Earth. As the nominal leader of the United Kingdom since 1952—making her the country's longest-serving monarch—her influence is felt the world over.

But despite that enormous influence, the Queen holds no real power in British government. Instead, as the monarchy evolved over hundreds of years, her role has become largely symbolic.

Putin Left The Queen Waiting For 14 Mins and She Broke Protocol to Make Snide Remark

Vladimir Putin and The Queen have a tense relationship - with the Russian leader awkwardly making her wait and Her Majesty reportedly making an intriguing comment during his visit in 2003

Daily Mirror 28 FEB 2022

Putin and The Queen got dressed up for a state banquet in 2003

The Queen usually doesn't comment on world leaders - but she reportedly made an exception for Vladimir Putin.

Her opinions on the Russian leader will undoubtedly have got even worse since his government launched their assault on Ukraine on Thursday.

Tensions between Britain and Russia have escalated and Buckingham Palace are braced for the worst case scenario.

In the event of bomb ever hitting the UK, 'Operation Candid' would be rolled out as a possible nuclear escape which would ensure the Royal Family are safe and secure.

The Queen has met Putin on a number of occasions - with their most eventful meeting coming during his state visit to the UK in 2003.

Putin is known for his bad, or perhaps intentionally tardy, timekeeping and he made the Palace nervous by keeping The Queen waiting for 14 minutes.

The Queen and Russian President Putin arriving at Buckingham Palace in 2003 during his state visit

Later on, a dog's reaction to Putin allegedly prompted The Queen to break royal protocol and take a brutal swipe at the Russian President.

According to David Blunkett, who is blind, and Home Secretary at the time, his guide dog reacted defensively towards Putin.

Mr Blunkett told the BBC : "The only time I met Vladimir Putin was back in 2003 on an official visit and my then dog barked very loudly.

"I did apologise to the Queen who was obviously hosting. I don’t think I am giving anything away when I said, 'Sorry your Majesty about the dog barking.'

"She said
to Putin, 'Dogs have interesting instincts, don’t they?'".........

The alleged remark would be a break from royal protocol as The Queen must usually remain "strictly neutral with respect to political matters".

Putin's was the first state visit by a Russian leader since the days of the Tsars

Back in June 2014, The Queen was seated away from Putin during a D-Day commemoration event in France.

The pair gathered with world leaders at Chateau de Benouville in Normandy, which was awkwardly just months after Prince Charles was alleged to have compared Putin's rule to the Nazi regime.

The tension was seemingly laid bare when everyone went to pose for a group photo.

The Queen was helped down a set of steps by then US President Barack Obama and New Zealand's Governor-General Jerry Mateparae.

But observers pointed out that Putin, who was stood close to them but not looking in their direction, did not bother to help the elderly monarch.

In 2018, Russia remarkably slammed the Queen for downing gin, wine and champagne every day in a 'fake news' propaganda blast against the UK.

Putin was a personal guest of The Queen

Senator Aleksey Pushkov, an ally of Putin, said the monarch treats drinking like a "ceremony" while Prime Minster Theresa May has a brandy habit.

According to the Sun, Pushkov told Staterun TV: "Before dinner she [Her Majesty] drinks a ****tail made from gin and another based on wine, with ice and lemon.

"After the meal, she has a glass of wine with a bar of chocolate.

"She also drinks dry Martini. At the end of the day, she likes to drink cool champagne."

At the time, senior Tory MP Bernard Jenkin said the 'absurd' comments were aimed at undermining Britain's claim Russia tried to kill ex-spy Sergei Skripal and Yulia Skripal.

The Queen clearly has an interest in Putin, as President Joe Biden revealed she asked him about the Russian leader in June last year.

The Duke of Edinburgh (L) and Queen Elizabeth (2L) are greeted by Russia's President Vladimir Putin (2R) and his ex-wife Lyudmila Putina (R) in 2003

During his visit to the UK to attend the G7 summit in Cornwall, President Biden and his wife Jill had a chat with the 95-year-old monarch over tea at Windsor Castle.

Mr Biden said they talked about a range of topics and the Queen asked him about his relationship with Xi Jinping, the Chinese leader, and Putin.

This was potentially the second time that President Biden had broken royal protoclo by revealing their private conversations.

The president told reporters: "She wanted to know what the two leaders that I - the one I'm about to meet with, Mr Putin, and she wanted to know about Xi Jinping."

The Queen certainly won't be speaking with Putin any time soon - but the Palace are making preparations for a worst case scenario if World War 3 breaks out.

It is understood that Russia holds around 6,255 nuclear weapons, with the US not far behind with 5,550, and the Daily Star reported that plans are already in place should the very worst happen.

Preparations are being made for The Queen if the worst happens with Putin

A declassified document revealed the Queen and her close family members would either take refuge on a super yacht or be placed in a secret bunker.

The document, known as Operation Candid, revealed Her Majesty and her loved ones would disperse to country houses away from London.

Known residences, such as Balmoral Castle and Sandringham House, would not be used and they would be hidden in lochs in Scotland.

Where there was sufficient time, the royal family would be evacuated to sea, with the Royal Yacht Britannia earmarked to keep them safe.

But it's been 60 years since the plan was first devised so the current status is unknown.

The royal yacht was decommissioned in 1997, meaning another vessel would need to be used - potentially a submarine.

Filled Request Re: ROYALS: Prince William Profoundly Sorry Over Slavery

Prince William Expresses Profound Sorrow' Over Slavery in Jamaica Speech

The Duke of Cambridge has spoken of his "profound sorrow" over slavery during a speech at a dinner in Jamaica.

BBC News 24 MAR 2022.

Prince William said slavery was abhorrent, "should never have happened" and "forever stains our history".

Earlier, the island's prime minister, Andrew Holness, told the future king his country planned to pursue its goals as an independent country.

On the fifth day of their Caribbean tour the duke and duchess also visited a hospital and school.

Speaking at a dinner hosted by the Governor General of Jamaica, Prince William praised the spirit of the island that "makes it so special" as well as addressing the UK's role in slavery.

"While the pain runs deep, Jamaica continues to forge its future with determination, courage and fortitude," he said.

The prince added the Queen had a deep affection for the country and said he had been touched to hear from Jamaicans about their affection for his grandmother in her Platinum Jubilee year.

Analysis box by Jonny Dymond, royal correspondent

"Sorrow" is not "sorry". Some will be disappointed about that. But "sorry" would have been a different order of magnitude, carrying with it acceptance of responsibility and opening up the question of financial compensation.

Hardly surprising then that Prince William didn't go that far. That would be a job for government, not royalty.

When I spoke to Jamaicans earlier in the evening in Emancipation Park in Kingston there was a lot of thought about slavery, but little in the way of anger.

There was talk of pain, but also an acknowledgment that this generation of Jamaicans is a long way from the generations exploited by plantation owners during colonial rule. It was those who suffered then that deserved an apology, one young woman said.

This has been a particularly political part of the Caribbean tour. With his speech, William tried to deal with some of the issues about Britain's past in Jamaica.

But the prime minister has raised a big question about the future of the Royal Family in a truly independent Jamaica.

There have been calls in Jamaica to drop the Queen as head of state and the royal visit has seen demonstrations urging the monarchy to pay reparations for the slave trade.

Mr Holness, who campaigned on a platform of making Jamaica a republic, told the duke there were "unresolved" issues but said that the royals' presence gave an opportunity for those to be addressed.

He said Jamaica was "moving on" and added: "We intend to attain in short order our development goals and fulfil our true ambitions and destiny as an independent, developed, prosperous country."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Guillermo (R) and Catalina (L), observe a panel with photos of recovered children entitled "Little Heroes"

The royal couple visited a hospital in Spanish City during their tour

Last year, Barbados officially removed the Queen as its head of state in a ceremony attended by the Prince of Wales.

In a speech to mark the occasion Prince Charles acknowledged the "appalling atrocity of slavery", something his son referenced during his own address in Jamaica.

Earlier on Wednesday, the duke was joined by his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, for a visit to Spanish Town Hospital and Shortwood Teachers' College where they met staff and students.

At the hospital the duke revealed both he and his wife had received three Covid vaccines and described staff as "total heroes" as he asked them to look after their mental health.

They also visited the Caribbean Military Technical Training Institute, near Montego Bay, where the duchess forced her husband off the road as he tested his skills in a driving simulator.

In his speech the duke said the couple wished they had more time to spend in Jamaica and said they hoped to come back with their children.

The Queen Celebrates 96th Birthday in Sandringham

BBC 21 Apr 2022

A photograph for the Queen's birthday reflects her lifelong interest in horses

The Queen will celebrate her 96th birthday on Thursday in Sandringham.

Britain's longest-reigning monarch travelled by helicopter to her Norfolk estate, where she will be joined by family and friends.

She is expected to stay in a cottage on the estate particularly liked by her late husband, Prince Philip.

A photograph has been released to mark the birthday, showing the Queen with two ponies and reflecting her lifelong interest in horses.

The picture was taken at Windsor Castle, where the Queen now mostly stays, and shows her with two Fell ponies, who will appear in the forthcoming Royal Windsor Horse Show.
Birthday wishes

Prince Harry suggested in a US TV interview that the Queen might be downplaying this latest milestone, saying that "after a certain age you get bored of birthdays".

But she will be spending time at Wood Farm, a cottage described as "small and intimate" by former housekeeper Teresa Thompson, and a place with strong associations with Prince Philip, who died a little over a year ago.

The Queen was in Sandringham earlier this year when she marked her accession to the throne in 1952.

She was born in 1926, not in a royal residence, but in a London townhouse on Bruton Street, where she first lived with her father and mother, who became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

Birthday wishes have been sent by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer and gun salutes will be fired.

The house on Bruton Street where the Queen was born was demolished in the 1930s

The Queen has had mobility problems in recent months and has had to miss a number of events, including church services over Easter.

Her only public appearance this year, outside of her own residences or on video, was at the Thanksgiving Service for Prince Philip at Westminster Abbey.

The Queen's 96th birthday marks another unprecedented age for a British monarch, in a year in which she has become the first monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee of 70 years on the throne.

The next longest-lived monarchs were Queen Victoria and George III, who lived to the age of 81, and were the only other monarchs to have lived into their 80s.

According to figures from the Office for National Statistics, the Queen is one of about 124,000 people in the 95 to 99 age group in the UK, almost three quarters of these being women.

A Barbie doll celebrating the legacy of the Queen is being released to commemorate her Platinum Jubilee, featuring a recreation of her wedding tiara and an ivory gown fitted with a blue ribbon.

Platinum Jubilee-Queen Thanks Nation as Jubilee Weekend Begins

The Queen Hails Incredible’ Crowds

Royal Milestone: Marking 70 Years of Service

BBC 3 JUN 2022

The Queen has said she is "inspired" by the goodwill of the nation as celebrations for her Platinum Jubilee begin.

A new official photograph of the Queen at Windsor Castle was also released.

In a Jubilee message, she thanked the public for organising events and said "many happy memories" would be made.

Millions are gearing up for street parties to mark the monarch's 70 years on the throne over the four-day bank holiday weekend.

As well as community celebrations across the country, there are a series of official events, starting with Thursday's Trooping the Colour parade and ending on Sunday with a Jubilee Pageant through London.

The monarch said: "I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last 70 years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm."

The portrait released along with her message was taken by Ranald Mackechnie in the Victoria Vestibule at Windsor Castle earlier this year.

It shows the Queen looking contented, sitting on a cushioned window seat at the castle which has been her main home for the last couple of years. The famous Round Tower is visible through the window.

Mr Mackechnie took two previous portraits of the Queen alongside the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and Prince George to mark her 90th birthday in 2016.

People gathered on the Mall early on Thursday, with some having camped overnight

The traditional Trooping the Colour parade to mark the Queen's official birthday involves more than 1,500 officers and soldiers and 350 horses from the Household Division, as well as an RAF flypast.

The 96-year-old monarch, who has mobility issues and has recently cancelled several public appearances, is likely to join members of the Royal Family on the balcony at Buckingham Palace to watch the display.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are watching the parade, although they will not appear on the balcony.

The couple, who now live in the US, have a prime vantage point from the Duke of Wellington's former office, overlooking Horse Guards Parade, where they can see Prince Charles inspect the guardsmen and officers and take their salute in his mother's place.

They travelled with their children Archie, three, and Lilibet, who turns one on Saturday. Lilibet is the Queen's family nickname.

The Queen's son Prince Andrew, whose royal titles were returned to the Crown amid a lawsuit in the US, is not present.

History is Being Made
Analysis by Sean Coughlan, royal correspondent

The Platinum Jubilee celebrates something that has never happened before.

No British monarch has ever reigned for 70 years - it's a remarkable length of time on the throne.

To put it in perspective, the Queen's reign is already longer than the reigns of her four predecessors put together.

Her time as monarch has stretched over multiple eras, across 14 different UK prime ministers and 14 US presidents.

Older readers might be scratching their heads finding it hard to believe it's 45 years since the Silver Jubilee and the long, hot summer of 1977.

The nearest comparison in length of reign is Queen Victoria's 63 years - and in international terms, the Queen isn't far behind the 72 years of the Sun King of France, Louis XIV.

Reaching the age of 96 is also unprecedented for a British monarch. The Queen is one of about 138,000 people in the UK over the age of 95, the great majority of them women.

Apart from Elizabeth II, only two other monarchs have even lived into their eighties - Victoria and George III.

Events on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday

On Thursday evening, more than 3,000 beacons will be lit across the UK and the Commonwealth in tribute to the Queen, with the Tree of Trees beacon illuminated outside the palace.

The monarch is to lead the lighting of the principal Jubilee beacon in a special ceremony at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace said.

Also on Thursday the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall will guest star in an episode of TV soap EastEnders, on BBC One at 19:30 BST.

Prince Charles and Camilla join the residents of Albert Square at their jubilee street party.

At a service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral on Friday, there will be other accommodations made for the Queen's comfort, with no ceremonial journey to the event.

If the monarch does attend, she will use a different entrance rather than scaling the steps.

And it is not certain she will make the planned trip to Epsom for the Derby on Saturday.

On that evening, the BBC's Party at the Palace concert - set on three stages in front of Buckingham Palace - will see Diana Ross, George Ezra, Alicia Keys and Nile Rodgers entertain a live crowd of 22,000 people and a television audience of millions.

Crowds walk down the Mall leading to Buckingham Palace

On Wednesday, crowds flocked to the Mall leading up to Buckingham Palace to get an early taste of the Jubilee celebrations

At the concert, heir to the throne Prince Charles and his son, the Duke of Cambridge, will pay tribute to the Queen who will be watching on television.

On Sunday there will be street parties, picnics and barbecues across the UK with more than 85,000 Big Jubilee Lunches planned.

The finale of the weekend will be the Jubilee Pageant which will make its way through the streets of the capital with a cast of 6,000 performers and close to 200 celebrities.

It will end with Ed Sheeran singing the national anthem with a choir made up of "national treasures" outside Buckingham Palace.

Ahead of the celebrations, the Queen took a short break at Balmoral Castle, in Aberdeenshire, but returned to Windsor on Tuesday.

Saturday is the first birthday of Harry and Meghan's daughter Lilibet - who is named after the Queen's family nickname.

The Queen's granddaughter Princess Eugenie has led tributes to her in an article in the Spectator, describing her "grannie" as "a woman who has transcended time and has been that constant rock for so many when the world can feel so fragile".

She said she would love her son August to "have her patience, her calmness and her kindness, while always being able to laugh at himself and keep a twinkle in his eye".

Not everyone will be celebrating the occasion. Anti-monarchy campaign group Republic said a recent poll had shown the British public "just aren't that bothered about royal events".

Speaking for the group, Graham Smith said: "The Jubilee is not a national celebration, it is a carefully staged event to promote the monarchy and the royal brand."

Platinum Jubilee: Queen Humbled and Touched by Celebrations

The Queen has said she was "humbled and deeply touched" by the Platinum Jubilee celebrations held across the UK.

BBC News 6 JUN 2022

In a "thank you" letter after a concluding pageant in London, she said she remained committed to serving as monarch with the support of her family.

The Queen said despite not being at every event marking her 70-year reign: "My heart has been with you all."

She was joined by three generations of her family on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the finale of the pageant.

Her appearance rounded off a huge star-studded procession along The Mall which saw carnival floats celebrating the seven decades of her reign.

Millions of people also held Jubilee parties and street lunches in towns and cities across the UK on the final day of the four-day bank holiday weekend.

The 50"s decade dancers on the Mall during the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in front of Buckingham Palace, Londo

The Platinum Pageant, along The Mall, was the last of the official events for the Queen's Jubilee

In a statement issued as the long weekend's events drew to a close, the Queen, who is 96, said she had been inspired by the kindness, joy and kinship she had seen over during the four-day celebration.

It said:

"When it comes to how to mark 70 years as your Queen, there is no guidebook to follow. It really is a first. But I have been humbled and deeply touched that so many people have taken to the streets to celebrate my Platinum Jubilee.

"While I may not have attended every event in person, my heart has been with you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family.

"I have been inspired by the kindness, joy and kinship that has been so evident in recent days, and I hope this renewed sense of togetherness will be felt for many years to come.

"I thank you most sincerely for your good wishes and for the part you have all played in these happy celebrations."

It was signed, Elizabeth R.

Sunday's pageant began with a military parade with personnel from the UK's armed forces and from across the Commonwealth.

The 260-year-old Gold State Coach which carried the Queen to her coronation in 1953 rode through the streets, with the Queen appearing as a hologram inside.

As the floats made their way past during the two hour show, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George - the next three generations of monarchs - all watched from the royal box.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge later tweeted: "Amazing display of street art, theatre, music, sport and more... what a joyous occasion!"

The Duchess of Cornwall laughs with Prince Louis during the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in front of Buckingham Palace, Prince Charles took a turn keeping Prince Louis engaged - bouncing him on his knee

The military section was followed by colourful open-top double-decker buses depicting the different decades of the Queen's reign - with a host of celebrities representing achievements in music, fashion and the arts aboard each one.

There was a peloton of 300 cyclists on bikes of all shapes and sizes, led by the Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy, and a parade of vintage cars that saw a fleet of Morris Minors in various vivid colours drive up The Mall. It was followed by a collection of James Bond cars - all moving very slowly.

TV personalities, musicians, chefs, sportspeople, designers, and artists who have helped shape British culture of the last 70 years took part.

Among them were singer Cliff Richard, boxer Chris Eubank, model Naomi Campbell and athlete Sir Mo Farah.

Cultural icons such as the Trotters' yellow van from sitcom Only Fools and Horses, the video game character PacMan, and children's TV characters filled the streets.

The pageant also saw street theatre acts and urban dance from groups across the UK.

A number of enormous animal puppets depicting swans, a bull, snakes, ravens and a rainbow pea**** then moved along the route.

There was a big Bollywood wedding party, with dancers parading an enormous tiered cake topped with a number of corgis, and puppets of African animals - including elephants, giraffes and flamingos.

The show ended with a performance of Perfect from Ed Sheeran, and the mass rendition of God Save the Queen.

However, a planned flypast by the Red Arrows was cancelled due to poor weather.

Analysis by Sean Coughlan, Royal Correspondent

So the Queen appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the final event of the Jubilee.

There was rapturous applause from a crowd, who were surprised as well as delighted to see her.

After so many concerns about her health there had been doubts about her being there.

The Red Arrows didn't make it, because of the weather, but she made it. It seemed appropriate for such a tenacious monarch.

She arrived at the end of the pageant. That parade had been an hallucinogenic Jubilee ****tail of music, puppets, dancers, classic cars and even older celebrities.

It was baffling, brilliant and bonkers.

The Queen's appearance had its own symbolism, accompanied by those who will follow her, Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince William and Catherine and their children.

It felt like a bit of history and an image we'll see in the years ahead.

The event rounds off a long weekend of celebrations across the UK.

Saturday night saw affectionate tributes from the Prince of Wales and national figures during the evening's Platinum Party at the Palace.

Stars including Diana Ross, George Ezra, Queen and Elbow performed in front of a crowd of about 22,000, and an average of nearly 12 million people in the UK watched the show on BBC One.

The Queen, who has been experiencing mobility problems in recent months, was not able to attend the event herself.

But she kicked off the event with a pre-filmed comedy sketch showing her sharing a pot of tea with Paddington Bear, where they both confessed to carrying around a marmalade sandwich.

The Platinum Jubilee events began on Thursday, with Trooping the Colour - at which the Queen also appeared on the balcony.

There was a service of thanksgiving on Friday, which she was unable to attend because of discomfort she felt on Thursday.

She had to cancel her appearance at the Epsom Derby on Saturday for the same reason.

Away from Buckingham Palace, some 10 million people have been holding Big Jubilee Lunches, picnics and barbecues, across the UK.

Charles and Camilla began the day by meeting guests at a street party in south London amid tables strung with union jack bunting and laden with cakes.

Kate Middleton and Prince William Look Dazzling in First Official Joint Portrait Together

Prince William and Kate Middleton will visit the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge today to unveil a newly commissioned portrait of themselves, which shows them gazing into the distance in glamorous evening

BBC News 25 JUN 2022

A new portrait of Prince William and Kate Middleton

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have made a surprise appearance to unveil a newly-commissioned dazzling royal portrait - the first of themselves together as a couple.

Prince William and Kate arrived at the 200-year-old Fitzwilliam Museum today to unveil the painting by award-winning portrait artist Jamie Coreth.

In the stunning artwork, William is depicted in a black suit with a white shirt and blue tie while Kate wears the emerald green Vampire's Wife gown she wore while on a visit to Ireland in 2020.

She also wears the Queen's Cambridge Pearl Pendant brooch as well as Princess Diana's pearl bracelet and Collingwood pearl earrings.

The pair also have their arms around each other with the painting showing them gazing off into the distance.

The duke and duchess, both 40, met Coreth as they viewed the painting of themselves while in Cambridgeshire for a series of engagements.

William said, after looking at the painting: “It’s quite big.” He told Coreth it was “amazing”.

The duke and duchess both studied history of art at St Andrews University, though William later switched to geography.

The portrait was commissioned last year by the Cambridgeshire Royal Portrait Fund, held by the Cambridge Community Foundation, as a gift to Cambridgeshire.

With this brief in mind, the artist worked to incorporate the city of Cambridge into the portrait by painting the background with the tones and colours of many of the historical stone buildings that are synonymous with the city.

The portrait also includes the use of a hexagonal architectural motif which can be seen on buildings across Cambridge.

The couple arrive at the Fitzwilliam Museum to unveil the portrait

Members of the public will be able to view the portrait at the University of Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam Museum for an initial period of three years, after which the artwork will be exhibited in other community spaces and galleries around Cambridgeshire.

The painting will also be loaned to the National Portrait Gallery for a short time in 2023 to mark the Gallery’s reopening.

Coreth is described on his website as “one of Britain’s leading portrait artists” who “focuses on the character of his sitters, evoking a sense of their presence in his work”.

He said: "It has been the most extraordinary privilege of my life to be chosen to paint this picture. I wanted to show Their Royal Highnesses in a manner where they appeared both relaxed and approachable, as well as elegant and dignified.

"As it is the first portrait to depict them together, and specifically during their time as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I wanted the image to evoke a feeling of balance between their public and private lives.

"The piece was commissioned as a gift for the people of Cambridgeshire, and I hope they will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating it.”

Luke Syson, director of Cambridge University’s Fitzwilliam Museum, said: “It’s incredibly exciting to be the first to be able to show the only double portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge so far to have been painted, and commemorating of course their connection with Cambridge through their titles.

“It’s a great moment for the Fitzwilliam.”

Man Caught With Crossbow at Windsor Castle Said "I'm Here to Kill The Queen"

Jaswant Singh Chail, 20, appeared via video-link at Westminster Magistrates Court this morning charged under Britain's Treason Act - he was arrested on the grounds of Windsor Castle on Christmas Day

Daily Mirror 18 AUG 2022

The man who was allegedly caught at Windsor Castle with a loaded crossbow said he was there to "kill the Queen", a court heard today. The man allegedly said he had intention 'injure' the Queen

Jaswant Singh Chail, 20, appeared via video-link from Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital in Berkshire today charged with an offence under Section 2 of the Treason Act, possession of an offensive weapon and making threats to kill.

The supermarket worker was arrested on Christmas Day last year close to the Queen's private residence, with a line of sight to her apartments, where she was at the time.

He was allegedly wearing a hood and a mask and carrying a crossbow loaded with a bolt with the safety catch off and ready to fire.

Jaswant Singh Chail appeared via video-link in court today

Chail, from Southampton, Hampshire, is said to have told a protection officer: "I am here to kill the Queen," before he was handcuffed and arrested, Westminster Magistrates' Court heard.

Prosecutor Kathryn Selby told the court that the Supersonic X-Bow weapon he is said to have been carrying had the potential to cause "serious or fatal injuries".

The hearing was also told Chail wanted revenge on the establishment.

Prosecutors alleged he sought revenge against the establishment for the treatment of Indians and had sent a video to some 20 people claiming he was going to attempt to assassinate the Queen.

The court heard Chail had previously applied to join the Ministry of Defence Police and the Grenadier Guards, in a bid to get close to the royal family.

Chail, who wore a dark jacket over a black top, sat at a table with his arms folded during the hearing, only spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and current address at Broadmoor.

The Queen was at Windsor Castle at the time with her son Prince Charles and Camilla as well as other close family members.

The most serious charge under the Treason Act states that "on December 25 2021 at Windsor Castle, near to the person of the Queen, you did wilfully produce or have a loaded crossbow with intent to use the same to injure the person of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, or to alarm her Majesty".

A separate charge alleges Chail made "a threat intending that the other would fear that it would be carried out to kill a third person, namely Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second".

A third charge states he had "an offensive weapon, namely a loaded crossbow" in a public place.

Chail was not asked to enter pleas to any of the charges and Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring remanded him in custody ahead of his next appearance at the Old Bailey on September 14.

Prince William and Kate Middleton to Move Onto The Windsor Estate With Their Children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis

Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to move into Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate this summer

- and the property has a lot of history

Scandalous past of Kate Middleton and William's new 'modest' home as they release statement

Daily Mirror UK 23 AUG 2022

The Cambridges will be moving into Adelaide Cottage, a 'modest' home just a short walk from Kensington Palace....

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have long been rumoured to be leaving the "goldfish bowl" of their London lives in favour of the privacy of Windsor - and they've now finally confirmed the move.

Prince William, Kate, George, Charlotte and Louis will set up home in Adelaide Cottage, which is just up the road from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Frogmore Cottage.

The four-bedroomed Grade II listed Adelaide Cottage is on the Queen's Windsor Estate and they're now just a 10 minute walk from their Gan-Gan's house.

A source said the family had been "very keen for a modest home" and felt the downsize "fits the bill".

But the cottage also comes with a scandalous past as it was once home to Princess Margaret’s lover Peter Townsend, who lived in the grace and favour property in the 1940s with his first wife Rosemary to be on hand for the king in his role as equerry.

A map showing the location of Frogmore Cottage and Adelaide Cottage

Frogmore Cottage and Adelaide Cottage are just a short stroll from each other

The cottage is steeped in history, as Princess Elizabeth, now the Queen, her mother Queen Elizabeth and sister Margaret, as a teenager before the romance began, would regularly take tea in the gardens with the Townsends and their two young sons.

Margaret’s love affair rocked the Establishment, but she put duty before desire when she called off plans to marry divorced Townsend in 1955.

Nearby lies Frogmore Cottage, which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex use when visiting the UK, although the brothers’ long-running fallout makes it unlikely they will be socialising together any time soon.

The property was rebuilt more than 190 years ago as a cottage orné, or decorated cottage, for Queen Adelaide, the wife of William IV, to be used as a summer retreat.

Prince George of Cambridge, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, Prince Louis of Cambridge and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge

It was built in 1831 on the site of the old Head Keeper’s Lodge on the North Slopes of Home Park.

According to Historic England, the public body which cares for England's historic buildings and places, Adelaide Cottage is a "picturesque" two-storey stucco-faced dwelling with casement windows, and elaborate pierced bargeboards edging the roof.

The principal bedroom has a coved ceiling decorated with gilded dolphins and rope ornament reused from the 19th century royal yacht Royal George, and a good marble Graeco-Egyptian fireplace.

The south entrance is flanked by paired diagonally set chimneys with stepped bases, and the house has a porte-cochere, a canopied entrance to provide shelter.

The Sussexes are expected to stay at their nearby home, Frogmore Cottage

There is a verandah with bargeboard eaves on the east side.

Its four-bedrooms mean that for the first time since she joined the family, William and Kate’s full-time nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo will live elsewhere, as will other staff including the housekeeper and the chef, giving the Cambridges more privacy.

The location offers the family easy access to the private 655-acre Home Park and the historic royal estate's network of drives, gardens, farms, nearby trout stream, Frogmore House and Royal Mausoleum, and Queen Victoria’s Walk flanked by cedars.

Other benefits include neighbouring Windsor Great Park, which spans more than 5,000 acres, with its Long Walk leading up to Windsor Castle, deer park and woodland trails in the Valley Gardens.

The property, previously known as Adelaide Lodge, was constructed by Sir Jeffry Wyatville using materials from John Nash’s Royal Lodge built for the indulgent Prince Regent.

Its entrance bears the initials AR (Adelaide Regina) and the date of 1831.

It sits next to another property called Adelaide Lodge, which is empty and inhabitable due to problems with it not being underpinned.

Queen Victoria often visited the cottage for breakfast or tea, according to the Royal Collection Trust.

Her beloved King Charles spaniel Dash, whom she would dress in a scarlet jacket and blue trousers, was buried there after his death in 1840.

He was honoured with an emotional inscription on his grave reading: "Here lies Dash, the favourite spaniel of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, In his 10th year. His attachment was without selfishness, his playfulness without malice, his fidelity without deceit. Reader, If you would be beloved and die regretted, profit by the example of Dash."

The house, which features a fountain in the centre of the garden, was more recently home to Simon Rhodes, the son of the Queen’s late first cousin Margaret Rhodes.

Queen Under Medical Supervision at Balmoral

Royal Family Gathers in Balmoral Amid Concerns For Queen's Health

The Queen is under medical supervision at Balmoral after doctors became concerned for her health, Buckingham Palace has said.

BBC 8 SEP 2022

The Queen was seen on Tuesday when she appointed Liz Truss as prime minister at Balmoral

"Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision," a statement said.

The Queen is comfortable, it added.

It is very unusual for Buckingham Palace to put out a statement like this - it is usually unwilling to provide a commentary on the 96-year-old monarch's medical matters, which are seen as private.

Prince Charles has travelled to Balmoral with his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall.

The Duke of York and the Count and Countess of Wessex are travelling to the Scottish estate, about 40 miles (64km) west of Aberdeen.

The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, was already in Scotland undertaking engagements.

The Duke of Cambridge is also on his way, with the Duchess of Cambridge remaining in Windsor with their children on their first full-day at school.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who were due to attend a charity event in London, are travelling to Balmoral, their spokesperson said.

Barriers are being placed outside one of the entrances to the estate.

There are clearly pressing concerns for the Queen's health - much more explicitly put than before and without any reference to this only being about difficulties with mobility.

There are also warnings against unfounded speculation, such as that she might have had a fall. And on Tuesday she was on her feet and photographed smiling as she appointed new Prime Minister Liz Truss.

But from the last-minute cancellation of what would only have been a virtual meeting of the Privy Council - of senior ministers - there is no mistaking the fragility of the Queen's health.

A police officer carries a sign saying 'no guard changing today' outside Buckingham Palace in London

The Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace was not held on Thursday

Ms Truss said the "whole country" would be "deeply concerned" by the news.

"My thoughts - and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom - are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time," she added.

The Queen appointed Ms Truss as prime minister at Balmoral, instead of travelling to London for the event.

During her 70-year reign the Queen has typically had an audience with her new prime minister at Buckingham Palace.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, said: "My prayers, and the prayers of people across the [Church of England] and the nation, are with Her Majesty The Queen today.

"May God's presence strengthen and comfort Her Majesty, her family, and those who are caring for her at Balmoral."

News of the Queen's ill-health came as MPs heard details of the government's new plan to help households and businesses with energy costs in the House of Commons.

Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Nadhim Zahawi entered the Commons and spoke to Ms Truss. Notes were then passed to the Commons speaker and Labour front bench. The palace statement came minutes later.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said in a statement he was "deeply worried", while Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon sent her thoughts and wishes to the Queen.

Wales' First Minister Mark Drakeford sent his best wishes on behalf of the people of Wales.

The monarch has been on a summer break at her Scottish home since July.

Beating Heart re: ROYALS: Elizabeth R: A Year in Her Life & Grandchildren Stand Vigil at Her Coffin

HM Queen Elizabeth II Has Died Buckingham Palace Announces

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.

BBC News 8 SEP 2022

Her family gathered at her Scottish estate after concerns grew about her health earlier on Thursday.

The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.

With her death, her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

"The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

All the Queen's children travelled to Balmoral, near Aberdeen, after doctors placed the Queen under medical supervision.

Her grandson, Prince William, is also there, with his brother, Prince Harry, on his way.

Queen Elizabeth II's tenure as head of state spanned post-war austerity, the transition from empire to Commonwealth, the end of the Cold War and the UK's entry into - and withdrawal from - the European Union.

Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill, born in 1874, and including Liz Truss, born 101 years later in 1975, and appointed by the Queen earlier this week.

She held weekly audiences with her prime minister throughout her reign.

At Buckingham Palace in London, crowds awaiting updates on the Queen's condition began crying as they heard of her death.

The Queen was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, in Mayfair, London, on 21 April 1926.

NEW Royal Titles Following Queens Death - King Charles III and Changes For William and Kate

Prince William and Kate, The Duchess of Cambridge Will Now Become The New Prince and Princess of Wales

The death of the Queen not only means that Charles has become King, a whole host of other royals including Prince William, Kate Middleton, Camilla and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children Archie and Lilibet could see their titles change

BBC News 9 Sept 2022

His accession to the throne came immediately following the death of his mother who dedicated the last 70 years of her life to being monarch. Clarence House confirmed he will be known as King Charles III. Charles – now styled His Majesty rather than His Royal Highness – will be expected to deliver a televised address in honour of his beloved mother later today.

But the Queen's death has not just brought a major title change for Charles, it has also sparked a raft of title changes for other royals, with some kicking in immediately and others expected in the future...

King Charles III

King Charles III who is now monarch following the death of his mother

Charles – the nation’s longest-serving heir apparent, having been so since he was three years old – is now fulfilling his royal destiny and reigning as monarch.

He has automatically become King due to the 17th century Bill of Rights (1689) and the Act of Settlement (1701).

But there must be a formal proclamation of him as the new monarch at an Accession Council in St James’s Palace in London as soon as practically possible.

First, the Privy Council – to which 200 of the 700-plus privy counsellors will be summoned – meets without the sovereign to proclaim the new monarch and arrange business relating to the proclamation. Then, secondly, the new King holds his first Privy Council.

Charles will make a personal declaration about the Queen and then take the oath to preserve the Church of Scotland – because in Scotland there is a division of powers between Church and State.

Charles is now King

Charles with his late mother in Edinburgh in June

Afterwards, the first public proclamation of the new sovereign is read in the open air from the Friary Court balcony at St James’s Palace by the Garter King of Arms in the presence of the Earl Marshal and two of the sovereign’s Serjeants at Arms.

Amid great ceremony, trumpeters usually play a fanfare from the balcony and gun salutes are fired in Hyde Park and at the Tower of London.

The proclamation will then be read at the Royal Exchange in the City of London.

It is also read out publicly at some stage in other cities including Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast and usually at Windsor and in York, where the mayor traditionally drinks to the new sovereign’s health from a golden goblet.

As the UK’s head of state, Charles will now undertake constitutional and representational duties which have developed over 1,000 years of history.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall
Camilla is now Queen Consort

Camilla is now the Queen Consort and will take on her official new role of supporting King Charles III as head of the monarchy.

She was handed the role as the Queen passed away at her beloved home of Balmoral on Thursday and it means she will be crowned alongside Charles "unless decided otherwise" by the royals.

Queen Consort is not the same role as Queen, and merely relates to the wife of a King who is the monarch.

As the Queens' eldest child, Charles has now become King, he married Camilla at Windsor Castle in 2005.

The last Queen Consort in Britain was Queen Elizabeth I, who was given the title upon her marriage to King George VI.

In a showing of support and continuity, the Queen named Camilla as the future consort in February this year.

She said in a statement: "When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when the time comes,

Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."

In her role, Camilla is expected to continue amplifying the voices of people in causes close to her heart.
This includes raising awareness about the tyranny of domestic violence, illiteracy as well as sexual abuse.

Prince William and Kate, The Duchess of Cambridge Will Now Become The New Prince and Princess of Wales

Prince William and Kate Middleton are now also the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge

As well as their titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate are now also the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall - having inherited the King and Queen Consort's former titles.

The couple updated their social media accounts to reflect their new titles following the Queen's death.

Their bio now reads: "The official account of The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge and the Royal Foundation, based at Kensington Palace." Their handle remains the same as @KensingtonRoyal.

They will also take the titles Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when they are in Scotland.

King Charles is also expected make his oldest son William the Prince of Wales, the title traditionally handed to the heir to the throne. This is not automatic and has to be bestowed upon the heir by the monarch.

If this happens, Kate will be able to use the title Princess of Wales - a title previously held by her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.

The Kings' grandchildren Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis

With their parent's titles changing, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have also seen their titles tweaked slightly.

Previously they were Prince George of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge and Prince Louis of Cambridge. Now they are Prince George of Cornwall and Cambridge, Princess Charlotte of Cornwall and Cambridge and Prince Louis of Cornwall and Cambridge.

Archie and Lilibet with their parents Prince Charles and Meghan Markle

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Following the death of the Queen, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's children Archie and Lilibet are now entitled to HRH titles.

It means the Sussex children are now technically Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The change comes under rules set out by King George V in 1917. As the children of a son of a sovereign – grandchildren of the newly named King Charles III – they also now have an HRH style title if they wish to use it.

The Queen's youngest son Prince Edward and his wife Sophie

Instead of being made a duke, Prince Edward was made Earl of Wessex when he married his wife Sophie in 1999.

However, now it is expected he will eventually get the title of a duke if his older brother the King approves this - and that the title will be Duke of Edinburgh.

It was announced at the time of Edwards' wedding he would one day succeed his father as the Duke of Edinburgh with the blessing of the late Prince Philip and the late Queen.

If this change takes place Sophie, currently the Countess of Wessex, would become the Duchess of Edinburgh - a courtesy title which was held by the Queen.

A Princess At WAR: Queen Elizabeth II During World War II

During the Second World War, life changed dramatically for the people of Britain, including the Royal Family.

Princess Elizabeth Was The Only Member of The Royal Family to Serve as an ACTIVE Soldier During World War II

BBC News 10 SEP 2022

Princess Elizabeth, pictured in her ATS uniform, April 1945. Image from the Imperial War Museum collection,

On September 13, 1940, shortly after the start of Germany’s bombing campaign on the towns and cities of Britain, five high explosive bombs were dropped on Buckingham Palace. The Royal Chapel, inner quadrangle and Palace gates were hit, and several workmen were injured. Rather than flee the city under attack,

King George VI and his wife Queen Elizabeth, remained at Buckingham Palace in solidarity with those living through the Blitz.

This was a highly symbolic decision and received much attention in the press. The royal couple visited areas of London which had been devastated by air raids, speaking to residents and members of the local emergency services.

The Queen took a keen interest in what was being done to help people who had lost their homes. After Buckingham Palace was bombed, she is reported to have said:

  1. 'I am glad we have been bombed. Now we can look the East End in the eye.'

Princess Elizabeth was just 13 years old when war broke out on September 3, 1939. Like many children living in London, Elizabeth and her sister Princess Margaret were evacuated to avoid the dangers of bombing raids. They were sent to Windsor Castle, approximately 20 miles outside of London. The young princesses were two of over three million people—mainly children—who left cities for the safety of small towns and the countryside over the course of the war.

The government’s Children’s Overseas Reception Board also evacuated over 2,600 children to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States. On October 13, 1940, in response to this mass movement of people, Princess Elizabeth gave her first address from the drawing room of Windsor Castle as part of the BBC’s Children’s Hour in an attempt to boost public morale. She spoke directly to the children who had been separated from their families as part of the evacuation scheme.

“Thousands of you in this country have had to leave your homes and be separated from your fathers and mothers. My sister Margaret Rose and I feel so much for you, as we know from experience what it means to be away from those you love most of all. To you living in new surroundings, we send a message of true sympathy and at the same time we would like to thank the kind people who have welcomed you to their homes in the country.”

Hear Princess Elizabeth’s address to the children of the United Kingdom in this Smithsonian Magazine video.

Public responses to this broadcast varied. Interviewers from the social research project Mass Observation took to the streets to ask people what they thought in an effort to gauge the reaction of the British public. Out of 57 people surveyed, 38 had heard the broadcast. More than 20 people positively commented how “charming,” “sweet,” “beautiful,” or “lovely” Princess Elizabeth sounded, but also that she spoke “very clearly,” was “wonderful,” and “did very well.”

Most people assumed that the speech had been written for her and suggested it was “propaganda” or “a way to ‘keep the population quiet.’” However, several newspapers reported positively on the speech and included a photograph of the two princesses at the microphone.

As the war progressed, Princess Elizabeth championed more aspects of wartime life and resilience. In 1943, she was photographed tending her allotments at Windsor Castle as part of the government’s “Dig for Victory” campaign, in which people were urged to use gardens and every spare piece of land to grow vegetables to help combat food shortages. Before the Second World War,

Britain had relied on food imports from across the world, but when the war started, shipping was threatened by enemy submarines and warships. This resulted in food shortages and led to rationing of foods such as meat, butter cheese, eggs, and sugar.

On the morning of her sixteenth birthday, Princess Elizabeth undertook her first inspection of a military regiment during a parade at Windsor Castle. She had been given the role of honorary colonel of the Grenadier Guards, which symbolized her military involvement in the war effort.

When Princess Elizabeth turned 18 in 1944, she insisted upon joining the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS), the women’s branch of the British Army. For several years during the war, Britain had conscripted women to join the war effort. Unmarried women under 30 had to join the armed forces or work on the land or in industry. King George made sure that his daughter was not given a special rank in the Army. She started as a second subaltern in the ATS and was later promoted to Junior Commander, the equivalent of Captain.

Princess Elizabeth, as a 2nd Subaltern in the ATS, leans against a vehicle during training. Imperial War Museum, TR 2835.

Princess Elizabeth began her training as a mechanic in March 1945. She undertook a driving and vehicle maintenance course at Aldershot, qualifying on April 14. Newspapers at the time dubbed her “Princess Auto Mechanic.” There were a wide range of jobs available to female soldiers in the ATS as cooks, telephonists, drivers, postal workers, searchlight operators, and ammunition inspectors.

Some women served as part of anti-aircraft units, although they were not allowed to fire the guns. The jobs were dangerous, and during the course of the war, 335 ATS women were killed and many more injured. By June 1945, there were around 200,000 members of the ATS from across the British Empire serving on the home front and in many overseas theaters of war.

While Princess Elizabeth spent the majority of her days at the training facility, it was close enough to Windsor Castle that the princess would return there each evening rather than sleep at the camp with her fellow ATS members.

The King and Queen and Princess Margaret visited Princess Elizabeth at the Mechanical Transport Training Section in Camberley, Surrey, and watched her learn about engine maintenance.

When describing the visit to LIFE Magazine, the Princess commented

“I never knew there was quite so much advance preparation [for a royal visit] ...I’ll know another time.”

Prince Harry tells mourners Windsor Castle is 'a lonely place' without the Queen

Prince Harry told mourners that Windsor Castle is a "lonely place up there now without her" as he marked the Queen's death.

Prince William is understood to have personally invited his brother and sister-in-law Meghan to join him and Princess Catherine outside the royal estate to greet the crowds and read tributes this afternoon.

They have put any differences aside to honour Elizabeth II and take time out to meet members of the public.

Prince William Issues Emotional Statement On The Queen’s Death:

Prince William has issued a statement on the death of Queen Elizabeth II, paying tribute to the woman who was both his sovereign and his grandmother.

In his statement, the new Prince of Wales hails the Queen as “an extraordinary leader, whose commitment to the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth was absolute. So much will be said in the days ahead about the meaning of her historic reign.”

William then offers a personal note of reflection. “I, however, have lost a grandmother. And while I will grieve her loss, I also feel incredibly grateful. I have had the benefit of The Queen’s wisdom and reassurance into my fifth decade. My wife has had twenty years of her guidance and support. My three children have got to spend holidays with her and create memories that will last their whole lives,” he states

Queen Elizabeth II's FINAL JOURNEY From Balmoral to London

The Queen to Lie in State For Four Full Days Before State Funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday, 19 September.

BBC News 11 SEP 2022.

Queen Elizabeth II Tribute to 9/11 Victims in 2001:
'Grief is The Price We Pay For Love'

The Queen will lie in state for four days before her funeral at Westminster Abbey on Monday, 19 September.

The public will be allowed to view the coffin during that time.

Before this, the Queen will be at rest in St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh for 24 hours from Monday 12 September, with people able to pay their respects.

Her family, politicians and world leaders will attend her state funeral at 11:00 BST. It will be a bank holiday.

The Queen's final journey will begin on Sunday, with her oak coffin being carried by her Balmoral gamekeepers - her own staff bringing her to a hearse that will take her to Edinburgh.

The coffin will drive slowly to the Palace of Holyroodhouse for 16:00 BST.

On Monday afternoon, it will process to St Giles' Cathedral, with members of the Royal Family. There will be a service and the coffin will rest here for 24 hours, for people to pay their respects.

The following day, Princess Anne will accompany her mother's body as it is flown back to London. The Queen's coffin will be taken from Edinburgh Airport to Buckingham Palace via RAF Northolt.

On Wednesday afternoon, the coffin will be taken to Westminster Hall, arriving at 15:00 BST. Four clear days of lying in state will happen from Thursday, before the funeral.

Monday 19th's state funeral will be followed by a procession from London to Windsor Castle. The Queen will be laid to rest at King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor.

Her journey, beginning in simplicity, will end with the sombre grandeur of the first state funeral that many people will have seen - the last being Sir Winston Churchill in 1965.
King visits nations

Ahead of the funeral the new King will visit Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. Prime Minister Liz Truss will accompany him.

A period of national mourning will last until the day of the state funeral, the government has announced. The Royal Family will observe a further period of mourning for seven days afterwards.

Westminster Abbey is the historic church where Britain's kings and queens are crowned - but there has not been a monarch's funeral service there since the 18th Century. Funerals for the Queen's father, grandfather and great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, in the 1900s, were all held at St George's Chapel, Windsor.

Heads of state from across the world will be invited to join members of the Royal Family to remember the life and service of the Queen.

Senior UK politicians and current and former prime ministers are also expected at the televised service.

There is no obligation for organisers to cancel planned events on the day of the funeral but government guidance suggests organisers of sporting fixtures or pre-planned events may wish to adjust timings to avoid clashing with the service or processions.

Some events in the immediate aftermath of the Queen's death were cancelled or postponed.

Football matches in the Premier League, English Football League or in Scotland or Northern Ireland have been postponed until Tuesday, while all games in the Women's Super League, Women's Championship and Women's FA Cup have also been put on hold. A number of horse racing, golf, and boxing fixtures have also been called off.

Large-scale strike actions planned for next week were immediately cancelled, and the Trades Union Congress said it was postponing its annual conference in Brighton.

The King confirmed earlier on Saturday that the day of the funeral would be a bank holiday, when he was proclaimed as monarch at St James's Palace, London.

In his speech, he praised the Queen's "unequalled reign".

The King became the monarch after the death of his mother, but the meeting of the privy council of politicians, officials and clergy formally confirmed it.

The packed room, including all of the six living former British prime ministers, repeated the phrase. The proclamation was then read out on a balcony above Friary Court in St James's Palace.

Clerk of the Privy Council Richard Tilbrook proclaimed Charles "King, head of the Commonwealth, defender of the faith", before declaring "God Save the King".

On Saturday evening, the King's car stopped on its way down the Mall and he and Camilla, the Queen Consort, got out to greet some of the thousands of well-wishers who lined the road down from Buckingham Palace.

There were joyful shouts of "God Save the King", as he and his wife accepted bunches of flowers and handshakes.

HM Queen Elizabeth II: A Day-by-Day Guide From Now to The Funeral...

The Queen's coffin is in Balmoral, but soon will embark on its journey to the nation's capital ahead of her state funeral on Monday 19 September.

People will be given the chance to pay their respects to the Queen, as her body will be placed in the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Westminster Hall for people to see her coffin - a tradition known as lying in state.

King Charles III will also embark on a tour of all four nations that make up the UK.

Here is your guide to what will happen, day by day.

The Queen's oak coffin, which sits in the ballroom at Balmoral Castle, will be transported by her gamekeepers to a waiting hearse.

Her body will depart Balmoral at around 10:00, proceeding slowly on the six-hour journey to Edinburgh along more than 175 miles (280km) by road.

You can see here a map of the full route, which will pass through the cities of Aberdeen, Dundee, and Perth, here.

The coffin will arrive at the Palace of Holyroodhouse - the official residence of the British monarch in the Scottish capital - and lie in the Throne Room.

In London, the King will meet with the Secretary General of the Commonwealth at Buckingham Palace. He will later host in the palace's Bow Room the High Commissioners from the countries of which he is head of state.

King Charles will begin the day with a visit to Westminster Hall, where both Houses of Parliament will meet to express their condolences.

Accompanied by Camilla, the Queen Consort, the King will travel by air to Edinburgh. It is part of Operation Spring Tide, the codename for his first trip around all four nations of the United Kingdom as king.

In the afternoon, the Queen's coffin will travel by procession to St Giles' Cathedral, accompanied by the King and members of the Royal Family.

The Queen's body will lie in rest at St Giles' and members of the public will be able to view her coffin, which will remain under continuous vigil for 24 hours.

The King will then return to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where he will have an audience with the Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon. He and the Queen Consort will then attend the Scottish Parliament where they will receive a Motion of Condolence.

In the evening, King Charles will hold a Vigil with members of the Royal Family at St Giles' Cathedral.

Princess Anne, the Queen's only daughter, will accompany the Queen's coffin from St Giles' Cathedral to Edinburgh airport, and then by plane to RAF Northolt.

The Queen's final flight from Scotland to London is expected to arrive shortly before 19:00.

From there it will travel to Buckingham Palace, the official residence of British monarchs in London since 1837. The coffin's arrival at the palace will be witnessed by King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort, before it goes to rest in the Bow Room.

Before that, the King and Camilla will visit to Belfast in Northern Ireland. They will then travel on to Hillsborough Castle to view an exhibition on the Queen's long association with Northern Ireland.

King Charles will then meet with the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Chris Heaton-Harrris MP, as well as other party leaders. He will also receive a message of condolence led by the Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

After a meeting with religious leaders, King Charles and Camilla will attend a prayer service at St Anne's Cathedral, and then return to London.

The Queen's body will travel in a public procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall shortly after 14:00.

Her coffin will be carried on a gun carriage of the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery, and will be accompanied by a military parade as well as members of the Royal Family.

King Charles will lead the procession behind the carriage, which will be draped in the Royal Standard.

Crowds will be able to watch as it makes the journey along Queen's Gardens, The Mall, Horse Guards and Horse Guards Arch, Whitehall, Parliament Street, Parliament Square and New Palace Yard.

The journey is expected to last around 40 minutes.

There will also be large television screens set up for the occasion especially in the capital's Royal Parks.

Once in Westminster Hall, the coffin will rest on a raised platform known as a catafalque and topped with the Imperial State Crown, orb and sceptre.

Each corner of the platform will be guarded 24-hours-a-day by soldiers from units that serve the Royal Household.

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby will conduct a short service attended by King Charles and other members of the Royal Family, before the Hall is opened to the public.

The day marks the first of four full days that the Queen's body will lie in state in Westminster Hall, where she will remain until the morning of the state funeral.

The closed coffin will be placed upon a raised platform and the public will be able to file past and pay their respects.

Details will be released later on how people can take part, but it is expected that hundreds of thousands of mourners will be able to pay their respects in the 11th-Century building, the oldest part of the Palace of Westminster and the heart of the British government.

Lying in state is a traditional formality given to the sovereign, the current or past Queen Consort, and sometimes political leaders - although no former prime minister has laid in state since Winston Churchill in 1965.

The Queen's coffin will lie in state for the second full day in Westminster Hall, where people will be able to pay their respects.

The King and Camilla will travel to Wales, marking the final of his visits to all four nations of the United Kingdom as king.

The Queen's coffin will lie in state for the third full day in Westminster Hall.

The Queen's coffin will lie in state for the fourth full day in Westminster Hall.

During the morning the Queen's lying in state will end, and the coffin will be taken in procession to Westminster Abbey for the state funeral, which is a Bank Holiday in the UK.

Among the guests that will join members of her family will be senior UK politicians and heads of state from across the world.

Following the funeral, the coffin will travel in procession from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch, from where it will travel to Windsor.

The state hearse will then take the coffin along the Long Walk to St George's Chapel in Windsor Chapel, where a committal service will take place.

Queens' Coffin ;Lowered Into Royal Vault Ahead of Burial

The Queen's coffin was slowly lowered into the royal vault in St George's Chapel, in the grounds of Windsor Castle, ahead of her burial later in a private family service.

The service was the last of the public events before she is laid to rest next to her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Earl Marshal, the Duke of Norfolk – who is organising the funeral – described the task as "both humbling and daunting".
He said: "Her Majesty’s passing has left many people across many continents with a profound sense of loss.

"The respect, admiration and affection in which the Queen was held make our task both humbling and daunting. An honour and a great responsibility

Thumbs Up re: ROYALS: Secret Estate Prince William & Kate Inherited Since Queens' Death

The Wives of Windsor Step Up to Fill The Void Left by Queen Elizabeth

The Royal family’s matriarch is gone, but the women behind the throne give King Charles III all the strength he needs

BBC News 20 SEP 2022

Countess of Wessex

The Royal family has lost its matriarch, but rediscovered the formidable strength of a matriarchy that will prove pivotal to the reign of Charles III.

The wives of Windsor may have been excluded from the walking aspects of Monday’s state funeral procession, but the events of the last 10 days have seen the Queen Consort, the Princess of Wales and the Countess of Wessex step up like never before.

Along with the Princess Royal, who reaffirmed her royal trouper status by once again accompanying Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin - this time on its “final great journey” from London to Windsor - this quartet has emerged as central to the future prosperity of the House of Windsor.

The Princess Royal has been a constant alongside the coffin of her mother

From Anne’s steely work ethic to Camilla’s role as the King’s rock, and with Sophie and Kate both bringing a welcome dose of normalcy to this more than 1,000-year-old institution, the newly-slimmed down Firm appears in safe hands.

Once the former Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were viewed as the “fab four”. But with Harry and Meghan now off the scene and the disgraced Duke of York relegated from senior royal life, the Crown is more dependent on girl power than ever before.

It might not quite be a case of “Charlie’s Angels”, but it certainly comes close.

For as these leading royal ladies carried out their respective roles in the austere surroundings of Westminster Abbey and St George’s Chapel, we were reminded that even in the late Queen’s absence, the monarchy retains a woman’s touch.

That’s important when we’ve not only lost the grandmother of the nation but also face the prospect of three male monarchs. Of course, there is nothing wrong with an overtly alpha line of succession - but history from Nefertiti to Grace Kelly suggest that it is princesses who maintain the fervent interest in the royals, as well as making them seem relatable to the public.

Self-Assured Princess of Wales

As the wife and mother of a future king, Kate, 40, is now the Diana figure that we have been missing since the Princess of Wales title was set aside 25 years ago – highly photogenic, deeply maternal and with a likeability that appeals to people from all walks of life. Unlike Diana, however, she has the self-assuredness that comes with a stable family background – and 10 years of experience as a royal girlfriend before she even married William, 40.

Although she may be the youngest of the sorority, it would be wrong to consider Kate a newcomer. She first met the heir to the throne in 2001, so has 20 years of royal experience under her belt.

With more now expected of the couple - and the Prince of Wales needing to act as his father’s “liege man of life and limb” - he will become increasingly reliant on the wise counsel of this level-headed and unflappable future queen.

As she grows into her more senior royal role, comparisons will inevitably be made not with Diana, but Queen Elizabeth - who, like Kate, gained a reputation for never putting a foot wrong.

The Princess of Wales shares the late monarch’s mild-mannered nature, as well as her aversion to conflict. As we witnessed during the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, which reunited William and Harry just a month after that Oprah Winfrey interview, Kate is the Royal family’s most natural peacemaker.

Camilla, Queen Consort is undoubtedly a calming influence on the King

Just as Kate has helped to mellow William, Camilla, 75, is undoubtedly a calming influence on the King, who can become frustrated with the demands placed upon him at times.

Those viewing the Queen Consort as a sort of jovial “plus one” misunderstand her influence not only on the monarch, 73, but also his court. It was Camilla, for instance, who insisted on the appointment of former newspaper executive Tobyn Andreae as the King’s new spokesman - a move that apparently even blindsided Sir Clive Alderton, the monarch’s long-serving private secretary.

As one royal insider explained: “I think there is a sense that behind the scenes, it’s largely the Queen Consort who is running the show. She makes a lot more decisions than people think, especially with [former aide] Michael Fawcett out of the picture.

“She’s a stabilising and reassuring presence for the King. She makes him laugh and they have a lot of shared history together. He adores her and truly believes that she is the only person on earth who truly understands him.”

After spending most of the week winning the hearts of well-wishers with her down-to-earth and tactile approach, Sophie, 57, once again endeared herself to the public at the funeral by tenderly putting an arm around Prince George, nine. Such gestures come naturally to the former public relations executive and only serve to make the Royal family look more human.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, married Prince Edward in 1999

Before she married Prince Edward in 1999, her father-in-law Prince Philip suggested that his youngest son should inherit his Duke of Edinburgh title. What better way to keep Queen Elizabeth’s legacy alive than for the King to allow her favourite daughter-in-law to be known as the Duchess of Edinburgh? It would also elevate the Wessexes to the superior standing deserving of a pair who have spent nearly 25 years carrying out public duties with hardly any fanfare.

As the royal who regularly carries out more engagements than any other bar the King, Anne, 72, will continue to supply much-needed sibling support, as well as continuing her late mother's historic relationship with the racing world. Devoted to duty and regarded as a no-nonsense grafter, the seafaring princess provides some much needed ballast for a royal ship sailing in choppy waters.

Elizabeth I famously spoke of having the heart and stomach of a king - but it was her self-description as a “rock that bends to no wind” that appeared to characterise the strength required of females operating in a man's world.

The women of the second Elizabethan age are fast proving that they don’t just bring femininity to the monarchy, but a similar degree of fortitude.

Diana, The TRUE Queen

Queen Elizabeth II: Picture of Chapel Ledger Stone Released

First Picture of Queens' Ledger Stone Released

BBC News 24 SEP 2022.

The freshly engraved stone features the names of the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, and the Queen's parents

The first picture of the new ledger stone marking the Queen's final resting place in Windsor has been released by Buckingham Palace.

The black burial stone has been set into the floor of the George VI Memorial Chapel, where the monarch was buried on Monday.

The stone is engraved in memory of the Queen, her parents, and her late husband, the Duke of Edinburgh.

It replaces a previous slab dedicated to George VI and the Queen Mother.

The fresh stone now reads "George VI 1895-1952" and "Elizabeth 1900-2002" followed by a metal Garter Star, and then "Elizabeth II 1926-2022" and "Philip 1921-2021".

All four royals were members of the Order of the Garter, the most senior order of knighthood in the British honours system. The order of chivalry dates back to medieval times and is made up of the monarch and other senior figures, including ex-prime ministers and former military chiefs.

The freshly installed stone is also surrounded by floral tributes and wreaths to mark the Queen's death. It is made of hand-carved Belgian black marble with brass letter inlays, to match the previous ledger stone.

The Queen was laid to rest in a private burial at George VI Memorial Chapel attended by King Charles III and immediate family members on Monday, when the late monarch joined her parents, her sister and her husband.

The service in the evening followed the public elements of the day - the Queen's state funeral at Westminster Abbey and committal service in Windsor.

Members of the public will be able to pay to see the ledger stone in person from Thursday.

The chapel will reopen to visitors that day, and will be open every day excluding Sundays when it is only open for worshippers.

Entry to the castle is £28.50 for adults on Saturdays and £26.50 on other days, according to the chapel's website.

The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II is carried into St George's Chapel in Windsor followed by members of the Royal Family

The chapel was commissioned by the Queen in 1962 as a burial place for her father King George VI and was designed by George Pace. The pale stone annexe was added on to the north side of the building behind the North Quire Aisle and was completed in 1969.

The Queen's sister Princess Margaret, who died in 2002, was cremated and her ashes were initially placed in the Royal Vault of St George's Chapel, before being moved to the George VI memorial chapel with her parents' coffins when the Queen Mother died a few weeks later.

Old ledger stone, dedicated to George VI and Elizabeth, the Queen Mother

The new stone replaces this one, which was dedicated to the Queen's mother and father, George VI and Elizabeth, the Queen Mother

Prince Philip has only recently been relocated to the chapel, however.

When he died in April 2021, his coffin was interred in the Royal Vault, ready to be moved to the memorial chapel to join his wife upon her death.

The royal family is observing a seven-day period of mourning for the Queen, which will draw to a close at the end of Monday.

For one day, the nation stood still

This was history - solemn, spectacular and intense

King Charles III: New Royal Cypher Revealed

The cypher of King Charles III has been revealed, showing an image to be used by government departments and on state documents and post boxes.

BBC News 27 SEP 2022.

It was personally chosen by the King, from a range of designs produced by the College of Arms.

The monogram combines his initial "C" and "R" for Rex, the Latin for king, plus III for the third King Charles.

The cypher, a visual identity for the new reign, replaces the E II R of Queen Elizabeth II.

There will be other changes ahead to mark the new reign of King Charles:

The Bank of England says new bank notes featuring a portrait of King Charles III are "expected to enter circulation by mid-2024", with the image to be revealed before the end of this year

New coins will be produced, says the Royal Mint, and will appear "in line with demand from banks and post offices". There is no date set for when they will be in use, but an image of the new King Charles coins will be revealed before they come into circulation

Existing banknotes and coins will continue to be valid, with Charles and Elizabeth notes and coins being used alongside each other. The Royal Mint says there are approximately 27 billion coins from Queen Elizabeth II's reign in circulation

The Royal Mail says that new stamps featuring King Charles will "enter circulation once current stocks of stamps are exhausted"
But a set of four memorial stamps are to be released in November, showing portraits of Queen Elizabeth II taken at different stages during her reign.

As the period of royal mourning ends, the new cypher of King Charles will be used for the first time.

There is a Scottish version of the cypher to be used by King Charles

This personal monogram of the new monarch will have its first application in the Buckingham Palace post room on Tuesday, when it will be used to frank letters from the Royal Households.

It's an image that will begin to be used more widely, from uniforms to official stationery to public buildings.

--- King Charles III coins to enter circulation in UK

There is a separate version of the cypher for Scotland, which features the Scottish Crown.

But there won't be a sudden change on post boxes.

There are still boxes in use from the reign of Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V and VI, and the original cyphers remain until boxes need to be replaced.

Almost 70,000 of the current post boxes, about 60% of the total, date from the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. There are only about 170 surviving from the short reign of Edward VIII, who abdicated in 1936.

Boxes already under construction or ready for installation will continue to have the late Queen's cypher, Royal Mail says.

Where royal cyphers appear on buildings, it will be up to individual organisations to decide when or if they will be updated.

Unhappy re: ROYALS: Secret Estate Prince William & Kate Inherited Since Queens' Death

Soldier 18, Who Walked Beside Queens' Coffin at Funeral Found Dead in Army Barracks

Trooper Jack Burnell-Williams, 18, took on an important role at the Queens' state funeral last Monday, less than two weeks before he was found to have passed away

Daily Mirror UK 1 OCT 2022

An eighteen-year-old Guardsman who walked behind the Queen's coffin during her state funeral procession has been found dead at his London barracks.

Trooper Jack Burnell-Williams, 18, took on an important role at the Queen's state funeral last Monday, less than two weeks before he was found to have passed away.

The Queen's coffin was carried atop the State Gun Carriage on the day of her funeral

The Household Cavalry took part in the Queen's coffin procession

Police and paramedics from London Ambulance Service were called to Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbridge, London, at 3.48pm on Wednesday in an attempt to save the young man.

However, there was nothing they could do and Burnell-Williams was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The soldier's mother Laura, 42, shared an emotional tribute to her son - known as Jak to family and friends - alongside a picture of the young troop, adding: "Never ever thought I would be saying this but we as a family are all heartbroken with the sudden passing of our wonderful son Jak Williams yesterday."

Burnell-Williams has been found dead at Hyde Park Barracks

Police are not currently treating the death as suspicious, reports the Mail Online.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "An 18-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

"The death was unexpected, it has been investigated and is not being treated as suspicious. Officers will assist with preparing a report for the coroner."

Burnell-Williams' family shared their heartbreak on social media

Police are not treating the trooper's death as suspicious

At Her Majesty's funeral, Burnell-Williams guarded the late monarch's coffin as it made its final journey earlier this month, much to the delight of his family and friends.

His family proudly declared that their son was "doing his duty for the Queen on her final journey".

They had posted a video of troops from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, including the late soldier, taking part in the ceremony as Elizabeth II made her way to her final resting place.

On the day of the Queen's funeral, the soldier's dad Daniel Burnell wrote: "My son doing his duty for the Queen on her final journey. So proud of you Jak Williams xx very proud father xx"

The heartbroken father was reportedly told of his son's death hours after it happened on Wednesday.

Burnell-Williams' girlfriend Molly Holmes wrote on social media: "Forever going to miss you my love. Truly heartbroken."

The young trooper's sister Elisha added: "We will get through this together as a team. We need to do him just as proud as he's done us."

Meanwhile, his aunt Jodie Danks said: "Such heartbreaking news. I can't believe you're gone. You was taken way too soon. We all love you so much my handsome nephew. You made us all so proud. Rest in peace."

Burnell-Williams from Bridgend, South Wales, was likely one of the Household Cavalry's most recent recruits at just 18 years of age.

To celebrate his life and mark his untimely death, his family will release blue balloons into the sky tomorrow.
