Secret Estate Prince William and Kate Have Inherited Since Queens' Death

Prince William and Kate have inherited the ancient Llwynywermod Estate on the outskirts of Myddfai where King Charles enjoyed spending time each year around St David's Day

Daily Mirror UK 3 OCT 2022

Prince William and Kate have inherited a 'secret' home hidden away in rural Wales since the death of the Queen.

Situated in a corner of Carmarthenshire, the sprawling, ancient property was bought by King Charles 15 years ago.

The former Prince of Wales and his wife Queen Consort Camilla would often stay at the tranquil farmhouse and even ingratiated themselves with the locals.

They most frequently re-located to the home on the Llwynywermod Estate on the outskirts of Myddfai, near Llandovery, around St David’s Day each March, reports WalesOnline.

During this time, Charles would have a packed schedule of duties around Wales.

He and Camilla also spent some time there in April 2021 in the days and weeks after the death of Prince Philip.

Since the death of the Queen last month, William has inherited the title of Prince of Wales.

But also others, including Duke of Cornwall, Earl of Chester and Duke Rothesay.

He also now owns the Duchy of Cornwall, a private estate established in 1337 by Edward III to provide independence to his son and heir, Prince Edward.

As such, the Duke of Cornwall is always the eldest surviving son of the ruling monarch.

With this in mind, Kensington Palace has confirmed that everything which forms part of the Duchy Estate belongs to the Duchy of Cornwall, and that includes Llwynywermod Estate.

The estate was bought by the Duchy of Cornwall in 2007 for a reported cost of £1.2m.

Charles and Camilla would use the estate - made up of three cottages, a Grade-II listed barn and a main house - to enjoy breaks surrounded by 192 acres of Welsh countryside.

Charles had reportedly spent as long as 40 years searching for the perfect country retreat before settling on Llwynywermod, parts of which can actually be booked out by families or couples looking for a relaxing break.

Since the Queen's passing, residents of Myddfai have spoken fondly of the new King.

They say he would attend church services on Sunday mornings with the minimum of fanfare, donated prizes for local raffles, and also officially opened the new village hall.

William and Kate chat to nursery children in Holyhead, north Wales, last month

But some were concerned that he may now, as monarch, not have as many opportunities to visit his favourite part of Wales.

It may be that the villagers have to switch their affections to the new Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate.

The couple previously lived for three years in Anglesey in north Wales when William was stationed in the area as an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot between 2010 and 2013.

The new Waleses have three permanent homes in England, and last month moved with their three children to Adelaide Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

But they do have a clear fondness for Wales, having promised to visit regularly since inheriting their titles - including a trip to Cardiff before Christmas.

They are said to be keen to use their new platform to promote Wales, and spent time in both Anglesey and Swansea last week.

Thumbs Up re: ROYALS: Prince & Princess of Wales in US/ Prince Williams’ Godmother QUITS

King Charles Steps in to Save Princes Andrew and Harry From Being Sacked From Major Job

It was widely thought the King would strip his estranged son Harry and disgraced brother Andrew of the roles since they are no longer working members of the royal family

BBC UK 27 OCT 2022

King Charles has decided not to strip Princes Harry and Andrew from a prestigious role after they stepped down from their royal duties, but will instead spare their blushes by expanding his pool of advisors.

The new monarch will for the first time take on more than five Counsellors of State to assist him in official business should he be out of the country or become unwell.

Until the late Queen’s passing, the positions were held by the then Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Andrew and Prince Harry, chosen because they were the four next in line to the throne and are at least over the age of 18.

The Queen’s beloved husband, Prince Philip, as spouse of the monarch also held the position until his retirement in 2017.

At present, when the monarch is absent, state business, such as approvals for most appointments and legislation, can be conducted by two Counsellors of State.

It was widely thought the King would strip his estranged son Harry and disgraced brother Andrew of the roles as they are no longer working members of the royal family.

King Charles has stepped in to protect Prince Harry and Andrew’s blushes by not sacking them from a prestigious role

But in a new twist, royal sources have confirmed the King will not allow his son and brother to suffer further embarrassment caused by their separate departures from The Firm.

Well placed sources suggest there may now be three additions to the current list of five - the Queen Consort, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Sussex, the Duke of York and Princess Beatrice.

Harry has been largely estranged from the family since moving to California with wife Meghan

Under the terms of the Regency Acts of 1937 and 1953, these can be appointed from the four most senior adults in the line of succession, plus the consort of a monarch.

However, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and the Princess of Wales are now likely to be brought into the fold.

A palace source said: “No-one will be excluded. The pool of Counsellors of State will be expanded, this is for purely practical reasons.

“As the King and Queen Consort are likely to be away, as could the Prince and Princess of Wales, it is only right this is attended to.”

The source added a formal process would be necessary which would be completed before the King’s first overseas trip at the beginning of next year.

It is thought to be the second time more than five Counsellors of State have been on the list.

The Regency Act 1953 specifically added The Queen Mother for the rest of her life, but she lost the Counsellor of State role, on the death of George VI as she was no longer the wife of the monarch.

Another source said the monarch had made the decision, with the knowledge of his late mother some months ago, in order to “spare the blushes” of Harry and Andrew.

Dr Craig Prescott, a constitutional expert at Bangor University, said the changes would be the “simplest way of dealing with the problem”.

He added: "It makes perfect sense.

“It deals with the present problem in that there are not enough working royals to act as Counsellors of State.

“This is the simplest way of dealing with the problem.

“In that the legislation could specifically make Prince Edward and Princess Anne Counsellors of State, adding to those who are already there.

“Adding the Princess of Wales is unprecedented, but this also makes sense.

“As two counsellors of State need to act together, it follows that the Prince and Princess of Wales could act together.

“Overall, this is the simplest way of solving the problem, and the legislation should pass through Parliament without too much difficulty."

Prince Andrew, Duke of York

On Monday, during a parliamentary reply from the Leader of the Lords, Lord True, the upcoming reform was all but confirmed.

Lord True, the Lord Privy Seal and leader of the House of Lords, acknowledged that the King’s accession could prove “a useful opportunity” to amend the law.

Asked whether there were any plans to do so, he noted that “on occasion”, the Act had been changed in order to better support the sovereign “and ensure the resilience of our constitutional arrangements”.

He added: “The Government will always consider what arrangements are needed to ensure resilience in our constitutional arrangements, and in the past, we have seen that the point of accession has proved a useful opportunity to consider the arrangements in place.”

Kings' Fury as Donald TRUMP Said Kate Had Herself to Blame' Over Topless Snaps

In 2012, whilst on holiday at a private location in France, Kate Middleton was snapped topless by French paparazzi - sparking fury within the Royal Family

BBC News 6 NOV 2022.

Trump’s standing in the eyes of the Royal Family was already diminished after he had previously made vulgar comments about Princess Diana.

Catherine, Princess of Wales

v
Prince William, Prince Harry and King Charle s exploded into ‘torrents of profanity’ after Donald Trump wrote about Kate Middleton ’s 2012 topless photo scandal, a new book has claimed.

Back in 2012, photos of a topless Kate on a private holiday with husband William were snapped in Provence, France, and published in the French magazine Closer sparking fury within the royal household.

But Trump - who was elected to the White House four years later - waded into the furore around the controversy and blasted Kate as only having ‘herself to blame’.

The 76-year-old tweeted: “Kate Middleton shouldn’t be sunbathing in the nude--only herself to blame. Who wouldn’t take Kate’s picture and make lots of money if she does the nude sunbathing thing. Come on Kate!”

The Princess of Wales was on a private holiday when the photos were taken in 2012

In Christopher Andersen’s upcoming biography ‘The King: The Life of Charles III’ he claimed that the tweets sparked fury in senior royal circles.

William and Harry, and their father, King Charles all are said to have exploded into ‘torrents of profanity’, the book said, citing a Clarence House butler.

It also led to King Charles reportedly branding Trump ‘detached from reality’ and checking in with American friends whether he could be impeached, the book claimed.

An extract of the book says, according to Newsweek: "Trump's criticism of Kate resulted in what one Clarence House butler referred to as 'torrents of profanity' from both Prince Charles and his sons."

Prince William exploded into ‘torrents of profanity’ after Trump's comments

The book said: "It didn't help that Trump had aggressively pursued Princess Diana after her divorce—overtures that were rebuffed—and claimed later on a radio program that he could have 'nailed her if I wanted to,' but only if she passed an HIV test."

The book also claimed that the King was ‘disappointed’ when Trump referred to him as the ‘Prince of Whales’.

However, Trump’s inappropriate comments on the pictures take of Kate didn’t end there.

The book also claimed that the King was ‘disappointed’ when Trump referred to him as the ‘Prince of Whales’.

On Fox and Friends at the time, he also said: “While we're all fans of Kate, can you imagine why she would ever be out in the nude?

“Why would she be standing in the nude in a swimming pool or wherever she was. She's Kate. It's terrible what they did, it's terrible to take pictures, but boy, how can you do a thing so stupid?”

In the aftermath of the pictures, St James’s Palace released a statement saying that the decision to publish them was ‘grotesque’.

It continued: “The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of [Princess Diana], and all the more upsetting to the Duke and Duchess for being so.”

In 2017, Kate and William were awarded £91,000 in punitive damages, and two French executives were reportedly slapped with £40,000 fines as well.

In addition to this, the two photographers were ordered to pay £44,000 to the Duchess and the same amount to the Duke.

King Charles to Axe Number of Queens’ Key Staff at Windsor Castle in Radical Overhaul

Insiders with knowledge of the plans have revealed staff numbers across the Windsor estate will be cut in the coming weeks, following the King’s decision to put 100 staff at Clarence House, his former official residence, on notice of redundancy

BBC News 19 NOV 2022.

The King is to axe a number of the late Queen’s key staff at Windsor Castle in a radical overhaul of workers at royal residences.

It is believed that staff numbers across the Windsor estate will be cut in the coming weeks.

A source told The Mirror that many royal workers are “extremely worried about their futures” and fear being made redundant before the new year amidthe dire financial climate.

Buckingham Palace did not respond to the claim. It comes after the King put 100 staff at Clarence House – his former official residence – on notice of redundancy.

The Windsor insider said: “It’s a really testing time. Many are already resigned to leaving jobs they have cherished for years. It’s left a real sense of dread among staff.”

The news follows the King’s decision to put 100 staff at Clarence House, his former official residence, on notice of redundancy

The King and Consort are understood not to have stayed at Windsor since the death of his mother in September.

Staff say the castle “feels eerily quiet”.

The late Queen’s ladies in waiting and personal staff at the Royal Stud in Sandringham, Norfolk, are among those whose jobs are thought to be at risk.

The King has still not revealed his plans for the breeding facility, despite agreeing for 14 horses to be sold.

Many Windsor staff had been preparing to welcome the Queen back from her summer break at Balmoral when she died.

She had spent much of her time there since the pandemic.

Insiders say the King and Camilla have “no desire” to stay at the castle in the near future.

William and Kate, who moved to a cottage on the Windsor estate to be closer to the Queen, are also said to be unwilling to move in.

Royal watchers now wonder whether the King will keep the castle for weekends, as well as Sandringham. He also has homes at Balmoral, Highgrove, Gloucs and a cottage in Wales.

Camilla also has a six-bedroom house in Wiltshire for when her family visits.

BBC News 1 DEC 2022.

Prince William and Catherine have arrived in the US, where they will hand out awards for their Earthshot Prize.

The Prince and Princess of Wales watched an NBA basketball game where Boston Celtics played host to Miami Heat

The royal couple with governor-elect Maura Healey and mayor Michelle Wu as they lit up Boston City Hall

Shortly after landing, the prince thanked the US city for hosting his environmental awards.

The Earthshot Prize was launched in 2020 to search for innovative solutions to problems facing the planet.

The arrival of the royal couple came as a spokesperson for Prince William sought to distance the royal from a race row back in the UK.

His godmother Lady Susan Hussey, a member of the Royal Household, resigned after repeatedly asking a black British charity boss where she was "really" from.

The Prince and Princess of Wales launched the countdown to Friday's event by lighting up the city's landmarks green.

Crowds stood in the rain to welcome them to the city hall in Boston, home town of former US president John F Kennedy - the Earthshot prize is based on his 'Moonshot' challenge to put a human on the moon.

"Like President Kennedy, Catherine and I firmly believe that we all have it in ourselves to achieve great things, and that human beings have the ability to lead, innovate and problem-solve," Prince William told the crowd.

He said he wanted to thank the people of Boston for "their many tributes paid to the Queen", on this, his first overseas visit since her death.

"My grandmother was one of life's optimists. And so am I. That is why last year we launched the Earthshot Prize with the ambition to create a truly global platform to inspire hope and urgent optimism as we look to save the future of our planet," he said.

"To the people of Boston, thank you. I'm so grateful to you for allowing us to host the second year of the Earthshot Prize in your great city.

"Catherine and I can't wait to meet many of you in the days ahead."

Later on Wednesday evening, the royal couple attended an NBA basketball game between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat at TD Garden, sitting courtside with Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck and his wife Emilia Fazzalari.

A planned trip for the royal couple to New York earlier this year was cancelled following the death of the Queen. The couple was last in the US in 2014 in a trip that included a reception at the White House with the then president Barack Obama and his then vice-president Joe Biden.

When asked about the arrival of the royal couple in Boston, the White House said that President Biden intends to greet them and his team are "working through the details".

Prince Williams’s Godmother Quits

The late queens’ lady-in-waiting Lady Susan Hussey has resigned and apologised after a black guest at a reception hosted by the queen consort was left feeling traumatised and violated after she questioned her repeatedly about where she “really came from”.

Ngozi Fulani, the founder of the charity Sistah Space, claimed Susan Hussey moved her hair to reveal her name badge and persistently questioned her over where her “people” came from, despite having been told she was a British national.

A spokesperson for the Prince of Wales, who is Lady Hussey’s godson, said the comments were unacceptable and that “racism has no place in our society”.

The encounter on Tuesday at a violence against women and girls reception was witnessed by two other women: Mandu Reid, the leader of the Women’s Equality party, who is of mixed heritage, and another black female charity representative.

Hussey, 83, the widow of the former BBC chair Sir Marmaduke Hussey, had recently been appointed one of the ladies of the household. She is a close friend of the king. Her daughter, Katherine Brooke, has just been appointed as one of Camilla’s new queen’s companions.

Buckingham Palace described the remarks as “unacceptable and deeply regrettable”. Hussey has offered her “profound apologies” for hurt caused and resigned her honorary position with immediate effect.

Fulani wrote on Twitter: “Mixed feelings about yesterday’s visit to Buckingham Palace. 10 mins after arriving, a member of staff, Lady SH, approached me, moved my hair to see my name badge. The conversation below took place. The rest of the event is a blur.”

She then described the conversation:

Lady SH: Where are you from?

Me: Sistah Space.

SH: No, where do you come from?

Me: We’re based in Hackney.

SH: No, what part of Africa are YOU from?

Me: I don’t know, they didn’t leave any records.

SH: Well, you must know where you’re from, I spent time in France. Where are you from?

Me: Here, UK

SH: NO, but what Nationality are you?

Me: I am born here and am British.

SH: No, but where do you really come from, where do your people come from?

Me: ‘My people’, lady, what is this?

SH: Oh I can see I am going to have a challenge getting you to say where you’re from. When did you first come here?

Me: Lady! I am a British national, my parents came here in the 50s when …

SH: Oh, I knew we’d get there in the end, you’re Caribbean!

Me: No Lady, I am of African heritage, Caribbean descent and British nationality.

Buckingham Palace said: “We take this incident extremely seriously and have investigated immediately to establish the full facts. In this instance unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments have been made. We have reached out to Ngozi Fulani on this matter, and we are inviting her to discuss all elements of her experience in person if she wishes.
“In the meantime, the individual concerned would like to express her profound apologies for the hurt caused and has stepped aside from her honorary role with immediate effect.”

Prince Louis to Take Leading Royal Role at Christmas After Stealing Nation's Heart

The young prince Louis will join other members of the Royal Family on their traditional Christmas celebrations including the walk to the Church on Christmas Day

BBC News 20 DEC 2022.

Prince Louis is set to join the royal family’s Christmas Day celebrations after stealing the show at the Queen’s Platinum jubilee. The Wales family released an adorable Christmas card

As senior members of the family return to tradition and come together at Sandringham for Christmas, the younger generation are expected to step into the limelight.

Prince Louis, four, is set to join the family’s traditional Christmas Day walk to church for the first time.

The mischievous Prince tickled the nation with his antics at the jubilee celebrations. The snaps of him making faces and covering his ears went viral and were enjoyed worldwide.

Cheeky Louis even played up as he stood next to the late Queen during a flyover at Buckingham Palace. He was snapped shushing mum Kate by putting his hand over her mouth.

Amused by his antics, his parents later commented: “We all had an incredible time, especially Louis.”

The final decision about the important Sandringham milestone, will not be made until the day itself.

This year King Charles will make history with his first festive speech. He will be the first male monarch to address the nation on TV on Christmas Day, with a recent poll suggesting 38% of the population would be tuning in.

Reportedly filmed on Tuesday, December 13, his speech is expected to honour the late Queen.

Prince Louis with George and Charlotte during the Jubilee

It is also thought the King, 74, will mention the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the speech which was planned for recording on December 13.

This was before the latest episodes of their Netflix show were released in which Prince Harry accused the King of “lying” at the tense Megxit crisis meeting with the Queen in January 2020.

Earlier in the day the royal walk is a treasured Christmas Day family tradition. They go from Sandringham, to St Mary Magdalene Church to attend the morning service.

Prince Louis stole the nation's heart with his adorable behaviour at the Jubilee

They greet well-wishers who line the route to the church which fits 100 people in with the monarch on the front row.

The monarch decided to return to the much-loved tradition of gathering his family at Sandringham House, a 20,000 acre country estate in Norfolk and to make the 300-metre public walk on Christmas morning.

They have celebrated at Sandringham since 1988 but due to the pandemic the late Queen stayed in Windsor in 2020 and 2021.

Their return to Sandringham will be tinged with sadness because the beloved Queen will not be there.

The nation couldn't get enough of the adorable little prince

But it is hoped the expressive Prince Louis will give proceedings a lift, as he joins his siblings, Prince George, nine, and Princess Charlotte, seven.

Charlotte was four when she took part in her first Christmas “walkabout” in 2019. She wowed crowds by giving hugs to royal fans, including one who gave her an £1.50 inflatable flamingo toy.

But it is not only Prince Louis’ behaviour the royals have to watch out for on Christmas morning. His dad has previously admitted getting the giggles during the church service.

A British man today became the first person to be convicted of treason since 1981 after he was caught in the grounds of Windsor Castle with a loaded crossbow and told police and soldiers: 'I am here to kill the Queen'.
Jaswant Singh Chail, 20, has admitted intending to injure or alarm the Queen under the Treason Act after he was arrested in the grounds of the castle on Christmas Day 2021

Jaswant Singh Chail, 21, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to intending to injure or alarm Her Majesty after he was arrested outside her Berkshire home on December 25, 2021.

The 21-year-old, who was dressed in black and wearing a metal mask, told an armed officer he was there to kill the Queen and this was heard by two soldiers from the Grenadier Guards before he was calmly arrested.

The last person to be convicted under the same 1842 Treason Act was Marcus Sarjeant, who fired blank shots at the Queen while she was riding down The Mall in London during the Trooping the Colour parade in 1981.

Nazi propagandist William Joyce, also known as Lord Haw-Haw, was the last person to be convicted under the separate and more serious 1351 Treason Act, in 1945.

Since the Crime and Disorder Act became law in 1998, the maximum penalty for treason in the UK has become life imprisonment. Chail will be sentenced on March 31.

He had recorded a video four days before his arrest in which he made the same kill threat, demanding revenge for the 1919 Amritsar massacre where 379 protesters were killed and 1,200 wounded by British forces in India in the Sikh holy city in Punjab.

Close to where he stood with the crossbow, the Queen had been celebrating Christmas in the private apartments at her main Royal residence before her tribute to late husband Philip was broadcast to the nation at 3pm.

The Kings' State Visit to France Has Been Postponed Amid Widespread Rioting in France

BBC 25 MAR 2023

It was common sense and friendship according to the French President Emmanuel Macron - after calling King Charles and postponing his French visit.

Buckingham Palace said the King and Queen Consort would look forward to visiting France "as soon as dates can be found".

More than a million people took to the streets of Paris and other French cities last night in the latest protests against raising the pension age without a parliamentary vote.

The Prince of Wales Surprises Customer by Answering The Phone at Curry House

Prince William Pranks Customer at Indian Restaurant as Kate Dubbed Roti Queen

BBC News 21 APR 2023

Prince William has showcased his front-of-house prowess after candidly answering the phone to an unsuspecting customer during a visit to an Indian restaurant in Birmingham on Thursday.

During their visit to Birmingham in central England, the British heir apparent and his spouse, Kate, dropped by the family-owned Indian Streatery.

Prince William engaged in a conversation with the caller, and mangled the restaurant's address before discussing table availability.

"May I have the name for the reservation?," the Prince inquired as the call came to an end.

"We'll see you at 2:15 pm."

"I've probably sent him somewhere else in Birmingham."

Following the amusing phone call, the royal couple participated in a friendly roti-making competition.

While Prince William struggled with his red beetroot roti, Kate effortlessly crafted a flawless green spinach roti, earning her the title of Roti Queen.

Canadians DON'T Want Charles as King / Brits DON'T Want Camilla to be Queen

Poll finds most Canadians don't want Charles as King

BBC News 25 APR 2023

With the formal coronation of King Charles less than two weeks away, a new survey suggests Canada's new monarch could have a tough road ahead when it comes to winning over Canadians — and support for his wife, Camilla, appears even weaker.

Though the May 6 event is likely the first coronation many Canadians will have a chance to watch themselves — the last one was when Charles's mother, Elizabeth II, was crowned 70 years ago in 1953 — the number of Canadians who say they're looking forward to watching the event is small.

A new poll from the Angus Reid Institute suggests most respondents (60 per cent) oppose even recognizing Charles as King. Just 28 per cent say they have a favourable view of Charles, while nearly half (48 per cent) do not.

And the news is equally bad when it comes to how they feel about Charles's wife.

Following the death last September of Queen Elizabeth, there was much speculation and debate about what Camilla would be called with Charles becoming King.

At first, she was Queen Consort, a title the late Queen endorsed before she died. But when the invitations to the May coronation were sent out by Buckingham Palace, she was just Queen Camilla.

Two-thirds (66 per cent) of respondents to the Angus Reid Institute survey said they're against even recognizing Camilla as Queen of Canada. A majority (60 per cent) say she should not be referred to as "Queen."

Only 21 per cent think she should carry the title of Queen, while 19 per cent said she should be referred to as Queen Consort.

"Canadians are fairly unequivocal around their views of whether the monarchy represents a modern institution, and indeed an institution that they wish to see sit at the top of Canadian law, politics, constitution for generations to come," Shachi Kurl, president of the Angus Reid Institute, told CBC News.

"And the answer to that is no."

Support for the monarchy overall in Canada has been on the decline, and lowest in Quebec.

In this latest poll, more than half of respondents (52 per cent) said they don't want Canada to continue as a constitutional monarchy for generations to come, and of them, the vast majority (88 per cent) said they'd be fine with opening the constitution to break the ties. In Quebec, 66 per cent of respondents are against Canada remaining a constitutional monarchy.

Among those who support Canada remaining a constitutional monarchy, support is higher for King Charles's son, Prince William, and his wife, Catherine.

Queens' Former Right-Hand Woman Loses Grace-and-Favour Home Amid King Charles Reign

The late Queen's former dresser and right-hand woman Angela Kelly appears to have publicly confirmed she is leaving her grace-and-favour home on the Windsor estate after many years spent serving the former monarch.

Angela, a dock worker's daughter from Liverpool, worked for the late Queen for almost 30 years and became one of her most trusted confidants.

BBC News 29 APR 2023

The late Queen's right-hand woman has appeared to publicly confirm she has lost her grace-and-favour home - months after the death of her former boss.

Angela Kelly alongside the late Queen and Vogue editor Anna Wintour

Angela Kelly, who was the former monarch's personal dresser and designed many of her most memorable and colourful outfits, took to Instagram to say she would be leaving a property on the Windsor estate.

She also seemed to confirm that her work phone had been disconnected and that she would be moving north closer to her family.

It comes amid reports after the Queen's death last September she was facing an uncertain future with King Charles, said to be not a fan of hers, now in charge.

Taking to her public social media account, Angela, who bubbled up with the late Queen and Prince Philip at Windsor Castle during the Covid pandemic, posted a picture of what appeared to be her garden.

Accompanying the snap, she wrote: "Getting ready to say goodbye. I am moving at last to my new home which I will be able to call My Home at last."

Meanwhile replying to a friend, she said her work phone had been disconnected and added she'd be moving to the Peak District, close to Sheffield.

The pair were said to chat about "anything and everything”, as they drank tea and swapped jokes and anecdotes about their grandchildren.

In a rare interview with the Telegraph in 2007, she said: "We are two typical women. We discuss clothes, make-up, jewellery. We say, 'Would this piece of jewellery look nice with that outfit?', and things like that."

However, Charles is believed to have concerns over the number of books Angela has published - with the Queen’s blessing - which were mainly based on the monarch's wardrobe but also included behind-the-scenes pictures. A third book is also believed to be in the works

A source told the Daily Mail: "His concerns were solely about protecting both the dignity of the Queen and the Crown.

"Nothing has changed with his mother’s death. If anything, he is more determined to defend her reputation and her legacy."

In March, Angela was recognised by the King in the Queen's demise honours list but she only became a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, rather than a Dame Commander.

A royal source previously told the Mail On Sunday: "She's been told she will soon have to move out. It's a nice little place on the Windsor Estate and it was convenient for seeing her grandson, who was at college nearby.

"But the King has made it clear that under the new reign, people will have to cut their cloth. The King is clearly not in the habit of providing homes for those no longer working for the Monarchy."

Backlash at 'Tone Deaf' Plans For Brits to Swear Oath to King During Coronation

Religious leaders sparked outrage saying those watching the coronation on TV can join the 2,000 in the Westminster Abbey congregation to swear Allegiance to the King

King Charles to Wear GOLD For Coronation

BBC News 3 MAY 2023

King Charles' Coronation will take place next weekend

The Archbishop of Canterbury’s office has responded to a wave of criticism after inviting millions of people around the world to swear an oath to King Charles during his coronation.

Lambeth Palace today said plans for the “Homage of the People” section of ceremony on Saturday, would be “very much an invitation rather than an expectation”.

Religious leaders responsible for the event said those watching on television can join the 2,000 in the Westminster Abbey congregation to swear allegiance to the King, creating a “Homage of the People”.

Lambeth Palace said it hoped the modern change to the historic service will result in a "great cry around the nation and around the world of support for the King".

The greeting replaces the traditional Homage of Peers in which a long line of hereditary peers knelt and made a pledge to the monarch in person, which often took more than one hour.

But the move was on Sunday branded "offensive, tone deaf and a gesture that holds the people in contempt".

Graham Smith, a spokesman for anti-monarchy group Republic, said: "In a democracy it is the head of state who should be swearing allegiance to the people, not the other way around.

"This kind of nonsense should have died with Elizabeth I, not outlived Elizabeth II.

"In swearing allegiance to Charles and his 'heirs and successors', people are being asked to swear allegiance to Prince Andrew too. This is clearly beyond the pale."

Further outcry was expressed on social media where people were quick to criticise the call, branded a "royal pantomime at the taxpayers' expense."

One person remarked: "Why would people around the world swear allegiance to him? That makes no sense at all."

While another quipped: "I will cry over the cost of heat and food."

Some appeared to be more devoted to the king's two sons with one person commenting "I will be swearing my allegiance to Harry and Megan" and another saying "he should let William be King."

But others were disappointed by the negative reaction in the lead up to the coronation.

"Why are some people so negative about things in general history in the making for the good of the British people?" one person said.

"A lot of countries would applaud being British but there’s always a but or an upset and distraction."

Shops have been filled with King Charles III memorabilia in the lead up to the coronation

In response to backlash of the plans across traditional and social media, a statement from Lambeth Palace continued: “It’s simply an opportunity offered by the Archbishop so that, unlike previous Coronations, those who wish to join in with the words being spoken by the Abbey congregation could do so in a very simple way.

Vilified Camillas' Great Grandmother Was King Edward VII Mistress

'My great-grandmother was the mistress of your great-great-grandfather'

The Rise of Camilla: From Vilified Royal Mistress to 'Queen'

Who was Alice Keppel? How Camilla is Related to Kings' Former Mistress

King Charles III & Queenie C Coronation: Your Complete Guide to The Day

BBC News 5 MAY 2023

ALICE KEPPEL was famously the mistress of King Edward VII, the eldest son of Queen Victoria. Here is how Alice's life has drawn comparisons to the life of her relative Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall has only been a member of the Royal Family since she married Prince Charles in 2005, but her relationship with the future king was under the spotlight for several years before they tied the knot.

Comparisons can be drawn between Camilla's relationship with royalty and another famous high society woman, Alice Keppel.

Who was Alice Keppel?

Alice Keppel was a well-known socialite during the Edwardian era in the early 20th Century.

She was born into a prestigious family as Alice Frederica Edmonstone in 1868 and she was known as "Freddie" to her friends and family.

Alice later married army officer George Keppel, and it is believed he was content with Alice's affairs.

George Keppel is thought to have said: “I do not mind what she does as long as she comes back to me in the end.”

Alice was renowned for her beauty and her dazzling personality, and in the late 1800s she caught the eye of the Prince of Wales, Edward.

The pair would instigate an affair prior to Edward's accession to the throne, and the relationship lasted until Edward died in 1910.

Alice was said to be devastated by the death of Edward, and she and her husband left England later that year.

Alice died in 1947 at the age of 79 in Italy, where she was living at the time.

King Charles III & Queenie C Coronation: Your Complete Guide to The Day

The couple at the state opening of parliament in May...

Millions of people across the UK and beyond are preparing to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III - a symbolic ceremony combining a religious service and pageantry.

It is being held at Westminster Abbey on 6 May and the King, who will be crowned along with Camilla, the Queen Consort, will be the 40th reigning monarch crowned there since 1066.

The day of splendour and formality will feature customs dating back more than 1,000 years. Here is how we expect it to unfold.

The formal celebrations will begin with a procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey with viewing areas along the route opening at 06:00 BST...

Public access to sites along The Mall and Whitehall will be on a first-come, first-served basis, with people directed to official screening sites in Hyde Park, Green Park and St James's Park once they are full.

Stands for invited guests, including armed forces' veterans and NHS and social care staff, have been erected outside Buckingham Palace.

Just under 200 members of the armed forces - most from the Sovereign's Escort of the Household Cavalry - who will be taking part in the procession to Westminster Abbey will start to gather on Saturday morning.

Another 1,000 service personnel will line the route, but the overall procession will be much smaller than its equivalent in 1953 when other royal families and Commonwealth prime ministers were among those who took part.

Procession Begins

The procession will set off from Buckingham Palace at 10:20 BST (05:20 EDT) moving along The Mall to Trafalgar Square, then down Whitehall and Parliament Street before turning into Parliament Square and Broad Sanctuary to reach the Great West Door of Westminster Abbey.

In a break from tradition, King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will be in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach rather than the older, more uncomfortable, Gold State Coach.

Graphic showing some of the features of the Diamond Jubilee State Coach - including that it has air conditioning and hydraulic suspension

Westminster Abbey Arrival

The procession is expected to arrive at the abbey shortly before 11:00, with the King likely to wear military uniform instead of the more traditional breeches and silk stockings worn by kings before him.

King Charles may wear a military uniform like the one he wore for his mothers' committal service last year, while his grandfather George VI wore breeches and stockings at his coronation...

King Charles will enter through the Great West Door and proceed through the nave until he reaches the central space in the abbey.

He will be preceded by processions made up of faith leaders and representatives, and representatives from some Commonwealth countries who will carry the flags of their country and be accompanied by the governors general and prime ministers. These will include UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who will also give a reading later in the service.

The ceremony is due to begin at 11:00 and will be punctuated with music selected by the King, with 12 newly commissioned pieces, including one by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Greek Orthodox music in memory of the King's father, Prince Philip.

The King's grandson, Prince George, will be among the pages at Westminster Abbey, alongside Camilla's grandchildren, Lola, Eliza, Gus, Louis and Freddy. Some of those taking part in the procession inside the abbey will carry the regalia ahead of the King, with most items placed on the altar until needed in the ceremony.

What is The Regalia?

The UK is, according to the Royal Family website, the only European country that still uses regalia - the symbols of royalty like the crown, orb and sceptres - in coronations.

The individual objects symbolise different aspects of the service and responsibilities of the monarch.

Charles will be presented with the Sovereign's Orb, the Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross, and the Sovereign's Sceptre with Dove and other items at key moments in the ceremony.

Camilla will be presented with the Queen Consort's Rod with Dove and the Queen Consort's Sceptre with Cross - mirroring the King's sceptres.

Divider Strip

There are several stages to the service, which is expected to last a little under two hours.

For the first time members of the public will be invited to pledge their allegiance to the King, in a part of the service organisers are calling the "chorus of millions". In another departure from tradition, female clergy will play a prominent role and religious leaders from other faiths will have an active part.

Stage One: The recognition

King Charles will be presented to "the people" - a tradition dating back to Anglo-Saxon times. Standing beside the 700-year-old Coronation Chair, the King will turn to face the four sides of the abbey and be proclaimed the "undoubted King" before the congregation is asked to show their homage and service.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby will make the first declaration but, for the first time, the subsequent declarations will be made by the Lady of the Garter and the Lady of the Thistle - representing the oldest orders of chivalry in England and Scotland respectively - and a George Cross holder from the armed forces.

The congregation will shout "God Save the King!" and trumpets will sound after each recognition.

The Coronation Chair, also known as St Edward's Chair or King Edward's Chair, is believed to be the oldest piece of furniture in the UK still used for its original purpose. A total of 26 monarchs have been crowned in it.

It was originally made by order of England's King Edward I to enclose the Stone of Destiny, which had been taken from near Scone in Scotland.

The stone - an ancient symbol of Scotland's monarchy - was returned to Scotland in 1996 but has been transferred back to London for use in the service.

During the Coronation, the oak chair is placed in the centre of the historic medieval mosaic floor known as the "Cosmati pavement", in front of and facing the high altar, to emphasise the religious nature of the ceremony.

Stage Two: The Oath

Just before the oath, the Archbishop of Canterbury will acknowledge the multiple faiths observed in the UK by saying the Church of England "will seek to foster an environment in which people of all faiths may live freely".

The archbishop will then administer the Coronation Oath - a legal requirement. He will ask King Charles to confirm that he will uphold the law and the Church of England during his reign, and the King will place his hand on the Holy Gospel and pledge to "perform and keep" those promises.

The King will also take a second oath - the Accession Declaration Oath - stating that he is a "faithful Protestant".

Stage three: The Anointing

The King's ceremonial robe will be removed and he will sit in the Coronation Chair to be anointed, emphasising the spiritual status of the sovereign who is also the head of the Church of England.

The archbishop will pour special oil from the Ampulla - a gold flask - on to the Coronation Spoon before anointing the King in the form of a cross on his head, breast and hands.

The Ampulla was made for Charles II's coronation, but its shape harks back to an earlier version and a legend that the Virgin Mary appeared to St Thomas a Becket in the 12th Century and gave him a golden eagle from which future kings of England would be anointed.

The Coronation Spoon is much older, having survived Oliver Cromwell's destruction of the regalia after the English Civil War.
Graphic showing the ampulla is about 21cm tall and made of gold while the Coronation Spoon is about 27cm long and made of silver gilt and pearls

The oil itself was produced for the coronation using olives harvested from two groves on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, and consecrated at a special ceremony at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the city.

A screen will be arranged around the chair to conceal the King from view, because this is considered to be the most sacred part of the service.

Stage Four: The Investiture

Literally the crowning moment - when the King will wear St Edward's Crown for the only time in his life.

The crown is named after a much earlier version made for the Anglo-Saxon king and saint, Edward the Confessor, and said to have been used at coronations after 1220 until Cromwell had it melted down.

It was made for King Charles II, who wanted a crown similar to the one worn by Edward but even grander.

King Charles III will be only the seventh monarch to wear it after Charles II, James II, William III, George V, George VI and Elizabeth II - who last wore it at her own coronation in 1953.

First the King will be given a shimmering golden coat to wear called the Supertunica, and be presented with items including the Sovereign's Orb, the Coronation Ring, the Sovereign's Sceptre with Cross and the Sovereign's Sceptre with Dove.

Then the archbishop will place St Edward's Crown on the King's head and the abbey bells will ring for two minutes, trumpets will sound and gun salutes will be fired across the UK.

A 62-round salute will be fired at the Tower of London, with a six-gun salvo at Horse Guards Parade. Twenty-one rounds will be fired at a further 11 locations around the UK, including Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast, and on deployed Royal Navy ships.

Stage Five: The Enthronement

The final part of the ceremony will see the King take the throne. He may even be lifted into it by the archbishop, bishops and other peers of the kingdom.

Traditionally, a succession of royals and peers would then have paid homage by kneeling before the new king, swearing allegiance and kissing his right hand.

However, Prince William will be the only Royal Duke to kneel and pay homage to King Charles.

And instead of peers, for the first time the archbishop will invite people in the abbey, and those watching and listening at home, to pledge allegiance in what is called a "new and significant moment in the tradition of the coronation" by organisers.

The Queen Consort

After the homage, Queen Camilla will be anointed, crowned and enthroned in a simpler ceremony - although she will not have to take an oath.

She will be crowned with Queen Mary's Crown - originally made for Queen Mary's coronation alongside George V - but it is being modified to remove some of the arches and reset with the Cullinan III, IV and V diamonds.

Communion

The final part of the service will see the King and Queen taking Holy Communion - the principal act of worship of the Christian church.

Full details of the service for the Coronation can be found on the Church of England website.

The Departure

The King and Queen Consort will descend from their thrones and enter St Edward's Chapel behind the high altar - here Charles will remove St Edward's Crown and put on the Imperial State Crown before joining the procession out of the abbey as the national anthem is played.

The King and Queen Consort will then return to Buckingham Palace along the reverse of the route by which they came, this time travelling in the 260-year-old Gold State Coach that has been used in every coronation since William IV's.

Reports suggest the Prince of Wales' three children, Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte, will join the procession with their parents, in a carriage behind the Gold State Coach.

Nearly 4,000 members of the UK's armed forces will be taking part in what the Ministry of Defence has called the largest military ceremonial operation of its kind for a generation.

They will be joined by representatives from Commonwealth countries and the British Overseas Territories.

And the Royal British Legion will provide a 100-strong guard of honour to line the procession route in Parliament Square.

The route is 1.42 miles (2.29km) from the abbey right into the palace grounds. The King and Queen will receive a Royal Salute and three cheers from military personnel who have been on parade.

In 1953, the route was more than four miles long and it took 45 minutes for the whole procession to pass a single point.

Buckingham Palace Fly-Past

It has become customary since the coronation of Edward VII in 1902 for the new monarch to greet the crowds in The Mall from the Buckingham Palace balcony - the Queen was joined by her mother, children and sister among other royals as she watched a fly-past involving hundreds of planes in 1953.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will continue the tradition - although which other members of the Royal Family will be involved has not yet been confirmed.

Those there will witness the end of the day's public celebrations at 14:30, with a six-minute fly-past involving members of the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force and culminating in a display by the Red Arrows.

King Charles' Forgotten Mistress Who DIED Broken-Hearted After He Chose Camilla

Lady Dale Tryon - or 'Kanga' as she was nicknamed by Charles - is said to have been as important to the future King as his other girlfriend Camilla

BBC News 12 MAY 2023

King Charles' affair with his now-wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, has been common knowledge for decades, and much was previously made of her transition from mistress to Queen.

But far less has been reported about his supposed second mistress, Lady Dale 'Kanga' Tryon, who died just months after his first wife, Princess Diana, in mysterious circumstances.

Once described as "the only woman who ever understood Charles", Dale was a socialite in British royal court circles and a successful businesswoman in the fashion world.

Born in 1948 in Melbourne, Australia, to a wealthy middle-class family, Dale moved to London in 1972, where she met her future husband, Anthony Tyron, 3rd Baron Tryon.

Dale became friends with Charles through Anthony, who was one of his closest pals during the 1970s and 1980s.

According to a 2008 documentary, Prince Charles' Other Mistress, Charles was already seeing Camilla, who was married to Andrew Parker Bowles, when Dale caught his eye.

Charles was apparently as smitten with Dale - who he nicknamed Kanga - as he was with Camilla. And when the Baroness gave birth to a child with her husband, she named her son after Charles and even made him godfather.

The single Prince allegedly jumped between Camilla and Dale, who are said to have been sworn enemies. The supposed love triangle only came to an end when Charles married Diana.

Dale reportedly began to understand the power that came with being a mistress of the future monarch, and utilised it to drum up publicity for her 'Kanga' fashion line.

It's believed that Dale became Diana's friend and Camilla's enemy - with the Princess even wearing one of Kanga's designs in 1985.

But while she reportedly remained in love with Charles, it was Camilla he chose to restart his affair with.

Sadly, Dale's health then deteriorated with the re-occurrence of her childhood illness, Perthes' disease, and a diagnosis of uterine cancer in 1993.

The Princess of Wales Looked Dazzling in Diamond Tiara at Stunning Royal Wedding

Prince William and Kate Middleton have attended the evening wedding reception of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and his new wife Princess Rajwa after making an under the radar trip to Jordan for the nuptials

BBC 2 JUNE 2023

The Princess of Wales pulled out all the stops in a dazzling tiara as she and Prince William joined guests from the around the world for a lavish banquet at the royal wedding of the year.

Kate wore the stunning Lover's Knot tiara teamed with a pink, embellished gown for the evening reception at the wedding of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan and his new wife Princess Rajwa at the Al-Husseiniya Palace in Amman.

The Lover's Knot Tiara, a diamond and pearl-encrusted headpiece made in 1914, was often worn by her namesake Diana, Princess of Wales.

The sparkling headpiece was made by Royal jeweller Garrard, from pearls and diamonds already in to Queen Mary's possession. However, it was a copy of one owned by her grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse, who married the first Duke of Cambridge in 1818.

It was given to Diana by the Queen as a wedding gift in 1981, and she wore it for the first time at the state opening of parliament that November.

Following her death, the glistening headpiece was passed down to Kate, it is now perhaps her most favourite pieces of royal jewellery.

Earlier, Kate had stunned in a blush Elie Saab dress as she and William alongside Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi watched the happy couple tie the knot in front of 140 guest at the Zahran Palace before a motorcade of red Land Rovers escorted the newlyweds through the streets of Amman.

It was only announced this morning that William and Kate would be at the wedding after they were spotted at a hotel in Amman and it is the first time they have attended a major royal international event together.

Tonight's wedding reception is the first time Kate has worn a tiara since the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace in December. No royals wore tiaras for King Charles' Coronation last month with Kate opting for a flower headpiece by Alexander McQueen and Jess Collett instead.

Trooping The Colour Celebrating King Charles III's Birthday

King Charles III gave a salute as he left Buckingham Palace during his inaugural Birthday Parade on horseback.

BBC 17 JUNE 2023

He has become the first monarch in more than 30 years to take part in Trooping the Colour on horseback.

Charles took the royal salute as Colonel in Chief of the Household Division's seven regiments during the ceremony, staged on Horse Guards Parade, as members of the royal family and 8,000 spectators watch.

The colour, or regimental flag, that trooped in front of hundreds of Guardsmen and officers will be the King's Colour of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards.

It was the first time a reigning monarch has ridden at Trooping the Colour since Queen Elizabeth's horse Burmese carried her during the 1986 ceremony.

Pomp and pageantry were on display during the military spectacle where the most prestigious regiments in the British Army honoured their Colonel in Chief by parading to mark his anniversary.

Charles had deputised for Queen Elizabeth II at last year's event, also known as the Birthday Parade, but now rode onto Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall as the nation's head of state.

He was joined on horseback by the royal colonels - the Prince of Wales, Colonel, Welsh Guards; the Princess Royal, Gold Stick in Waiting and Colonel of The Blues and Royals; and the Duke of Edinburgh, riding for the first time in his role as Colonel of the 1st Battalion London Guards, formed last year.

Travelling in a carriage was the miserable Consort, who is Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, and the Princess of Wales as Colonel of the Irish Guards, along with Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, eight, and five-year-old Prince Louis.

Royals at Windsor Castle for King Charles' First Order of The Garter Service

King Charles III and Camilla Arrived For The Procession Through Windsor Castle

BBC 21 JUNE 2023

The King has attended his first service for the Order of the Garter since being crowned.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were also seen attending the service in St George's Chapel

Crowds outside Windsor Castle

Members of the Royal Family attended Windsor Castle for the service of the oldest order of chivalry in Britain.

The event marked the official installation of two new members to the service.

Former Labour minister Catherine Ashton was made Lady Companion, while Chris Patten, the final governor of Hong Kong, became a Knight Companion.

Thousands of members of the public gathered inside the castle grounds to see the procession arrive at St George's Chapel.

Members of the Order in attendance included former prime ministers Sir Tony Blair and Sir John Major, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh.

Camilla arrived with King Charles for the ceremony, which was attended by 800 guests inside the chapel and 2,900 members of the public who had won ballot tickets.

The Duke of York, who is also a member of the Order, did not attend.

Two other members of the Order, Lord Shuttleworth and Lord Luce, were named in the order of service but were unable to attend.

After the service, a procession of four Ascot Landau coaches ferried away members of the royal family who waved to the crowds as they went past.

Prince of Wales, Prince Edward and Princess Anne

The Order of the Garter was established by King Edward III nearly 700 years ago.

It comprises 24 members, including the King and Queen, several members of the royal family and 18 knights or ladies.

The Royal website states: "Knights of the Garter are chosen personally by the Sovereign to honour those who have held public office, who have contributed in a particular way to national life or who have served the Sovereign personally."

Scottish Ceremony Sees King Charles With Camilla Tread a Thin Line

Canadians DON'T Want Charles as King / Brits DON'T Want Camilla as Queen

King Charles III returns to Edinburgh's High Kirk, where he stood guard over his mother's coffin after her death at Balmoral Castle in September, to be presented with the crown, the sceptre, and a new sword named after the late Queen, in the presence of the Stone of Destiny.

BBC NEWS 5 JULY 2023

King Charles & CamIlla Queen CONSORT

The autumn sunlight streamed in through the east window of St Giles' and lit up a scene for the ages.

In a coffin of oak, beneath the red and yellow royal standard of Scotland, lay Queen Elizabeth.

Around her stood clerics in scarlet, archers in green, and police officers wearing pristine white gloves.

All of the imagery was vivid but, as I recorded in my notebook moments after leaving the cathedral, one detail was especially striking.

It was the sight of the fragile golden crown of Scotland atop the coffin.

Here, adorned with gems, precious stones and freshwater pearls, was a palpable reminder of both the individual who had died and the ancient institution she had led - a crown first worn by James V at the coronation of his queen, Mary of Guise, in 1540.

Three years later it was used again, together with the sword and sceptre which make up Scotland's Crown Jewels, to crown the infant Mary Queen of Scots.

--- King Charles coronation: Does Scotland want its kilted king?

Now King Charles III returns to Edinburgh's High Kirk, where he stood guard over his mother's coffin after her death at Balmoral Castle in September, to be presented with the crown, the sceptre, and a new sword named after the late Queen, in the presence of the Stone of Destiny.

In doing so he follows in Elizabeth's footsteps. On 24 June 1953 tens of thousands of people packed the streets of Edinburgh for a glimpse of the young Queen as she toured the capital en route to St Giles' for a similar ceremony.

"Scotland," noted Sir Thomas Innes of Learney at the time, "yields to none in the warmth of its loyalty for the new-crowned Queen."

The Scottish crown was placed on the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh

Sir Thomas, the Lord Lyon King of Arms, described how the Crown Jewels, also known as the Honours of Scotland, had been borne from Edinburgh Castle to the cathedral in "a procession of glittering splendour".

The Queen herself arrived in an open landau carriage drawn by four Windsor greys and flanked by the sovereign's bodyguards from the Royal Company of Archers.

Only her attire - a dress rather than ceremonial robes - went down badly, seen by some as insufficiently respectful.

Inside St Giles', a 1,700-strong congregation gave voice to psalms which had been sung at the coronations of Charles I at Holyrood in 1633 and of Charles II at Scone in 1651.

The Honours of Scotland are usually on display at Edinburgh Castle

There was a heart-stopping wobble as the crown, resting on a cushion, was presented to the monarch who held it for a brief moment before handing it back.

The event was not a coronation but it carried many of the trappings of one.

"Fifty-three is remarkable just from the public interest," says Dr George Gross, a visiting research fellow at King's College, London who specialises in royalty and coronation history. "The crowds are vast," he adds.

King Charles received First Minister Humza Yousaf at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on Tuesday

Seventy years on, the event is not on the same scale. The monarch will travel directly from the Palace of Holyroodhouse to St Giles' rather than process down Princes Street.

A plan for the King to use the landau has been abandoned in favour of an enclosed limousine.

Commentators have mused about Buckingham Palace's supposed sensitivity to cost of living pressures although it must he said that travel by State Bentley hardly screams austerity.

Prof Anna Whitelock, director of the Centre for the Study of Modern Monarchy, describes the occasion as a "reduced, imitation coronation".

It is, she contends, "a poor man's re-enactment, where no one actually gets to wear the crown. You're kind of shadowboxing with the past."

There may also be some shadowboxing with the present. Times have changed since the 1950s. The United Kingdom is wealthier than it was in the lean years after World War II. It is also more ethnically diverse, less deferential and less Christian.

The royal couple kicked off the annual Holyrood Week on Monday

It is more atomised too. The ties which bind the union of Scotland and England have frayed as memories of the unifying experience of the war have faded and the shared enterprise of the British Empire, which brought such riches to Scotland, has been reappraised.

Politics has changed too. The last time a majority of voters in Scotland opted for a Conservative government, the late Queen was still in her twenties.

Now the nation's devolved parliament, which Elizabeth herself cautioned against in 1977 before embracing in 1999, is firmly established in Scottish life - "a new voice in the land," in the words of its draughtsman, Donald Dewar.

The 21st century has seen the Scottish Labour Party of Dewar swept aside, with the Scottish National Party now running the devolved government, handling affairs such as health, education and justice.

It will be a first minister who is both a republican and a nationalist, Humza Yousaf, who attends the thanksgiving service in his official capacity as Keeper of the Great Seal of Scotland.

The Scottish Green Party, Mr Yousaf's partners in government who also favour an elected head of state, will not be there - instead joining a rally organised by the campaign group Our Republic outside Holyrood.

"How can we justify a system that allows one family to enjoy so much unearned wealth and privilege at a time when millions of people have so little?" asks the Greens' co-leader Lorna Slater, rhetorically.

There appears to be more support for this position in Scotland than there is elsewhere in the UK.

Recent polling suggests that the monarchy is backed by less than half of the electorate in Scotland although it remains a more popular constitutional option than a republic.

There is a strong correlation between support for Scottish independence and support for a republic, with the youngest voters most likely to favour both propositions.

According to YouGov, only 31% of those who voted to leave the UK in 2014 support the monarchy, while 57% would prefer an elected head of state.

The polling firm's data also suggest majority support for a republic among voters aged 16-24, with only a fifth of that age group in favour of the monarchy.

Sir John Curtice, professor of politics at Strathclyde University, says there are also signs of a dip in support for the royals since the Queen's death.

Still, throughout the centuries, the institution of monarchy has weathered immense political, religious and social upheaval.

The king will be presented with a new sword named in honour of his mother as part of the ceremony

In 1567 the Honours of Scotland were used at Stirling to crown James VI, and, following his consolidation of the Scottish and English monarchies in the 1603 Union of the Crowns, at the coronation of his son, the ill-fated Charles I at Edinburgh's Palace of Holyroodhouse in 1633.

The Crown Jewels - now the oldest regalia in the British Isles - proved resilient.

After Charles' execution in 1649, England's Crown Jewels were melted down or sold on the orders of the republican revolutionary Oliver Cromwell as representative of the "detestable rule of kings".

When Charles' son was crowned as Charles II with the support of the Presbyterian Covenanters at Scone in 1651, Cromwell invaded Scotland, determined to regain control and to destroy the Scottish Honours in the process.

Cromwell prevailed, forcing Charles to flee for the continent, but the Honours, hidden at Kinneff Kirk in Aberdeenshire, escaped his grasp.

They were never again part of a coronation ceremony.

After the restoration of the Stuart monarchy in 1660, following Cromwell's death, the Honours were used ceremonially in the Scottish Parliament until the parliamentary union of Scotland and England in 1707, when they were locked away in an oak chest at Edinburgh Castle.

Sir Walter Scott is often considered the founding father of historical fiction

Their rediscovery and rehabilitation by Sir Walter Scott in 1818 was part of the author and historian's successful effort to create a new image of Scotland, romanticising the Gaelic way of life even as starving Highlanders were being driven from their homes in the Clearances.

At the heart of Scott's project was his popularisation of the kilt as a "national" rather than a "Highland" form of dress, stripping it of the Catholic associations of the House of Stuart which was deposed in 1688 and the Jacobites who fought to restore that line.

The period still resonates today not least because the kilt remains the favoured attire while north of the border of Charles III, defender of the Protestant faith in England and member of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland.

In his seminal work The Scottish Nation, Sir Tom Devine contends that "Highlandism answered the emotional need for the maintenance of a distinctive Scottish identity without in any way compromising the union."

With this week's service of thanksgiving, the modern-day British state is again treading a fine line, attempting to showcase and honour Scotland without encouraging Scottish nationalism or alienating sects or religions other than Protestantism.

"The politics of the SNP and all of the problems that have emerged in the last few months perhaps makes the ceremony a lot easier than it was before," argues Dr Gross, adding, "it doesn't look like we're imminently going to be having another referendum."

That may be so but with support for independence continuing to hover below 50% in most polls, Charles III may yet face a challenge if he has wants Camilla as Queen and his Kingdom to remain united.

Major Royals Miss Charles' Ceremony as Hecklers Yell 'NOT My King'

A service of thanksgiving and dedication for King Charles and Camilla is taking place at St Giles' Cathedral in the Scottish capital, where the monarch is being presented with the Honours of Scotland, the countrys' Crown Jewels

The Dazzling Crown That Will Make a King

This afternoon King Charles was presented with the symbols of his authority in Scotland during a day of pomp, pageantry and prayer in Edinburgh.

The nation saw Charles crowned just eight weeks ago during an ancient ceremony where the monarch gave a pledge to "serve".

Today, the Crown, the Sceptre and the Sword of State - known as the Honours of Scotland.

The service of thanksgiving and dedication for the King and Consort took place at St Giles' Cathedral in the Scottish capital.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, were also in attendance at the event.

Ahead of the service, hundreds of protesters turned out at a rally against the monarchy, holding up bright yellow placards and chanting 'Not my King'.

The ceremony included five new pieces of music commissioned to mark the occasion, including Balmoral Flourishes, by composer Paul Mealor, which will be performed by the State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry.

Protesters gather on Royal Mile ahead of King's procession

The Red Arrows also provided the finale to the day, staging a flypast after the service over the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

As King Charles is presented with Scottish Honours at a service of thanksgiving in Edinburgh to mark his Coronation, you'd expect all eyes to be on the monarch.

But royals fans have also been waiting to catch a glimpse of King's dashing equerries as they dazzle in their regalia during the ceremony today.

Equerry Major Jonathan Thompson, of the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, stole hearts earlier this year with his appearance during the King's Coronation - and now he's left royal fans swooning once more.

The 39-year-old equerry, who previously found himself at the centre of social media frenzy, with many commenting on his "hunky" good looks, has dazzled again in brilliant regalia for a ceremony full of pomp and pageantry.

Security Plans at Windsor Castle Reveal Kings’ Secret Staircase to Outside World

Security plans at Windsor Castle marked confidential have revealed the Sovereign’s private staircase leading onto the south terrace

BBC NEWS 24 JULY 2023

Security plans for Windsor Castle have revealed a maze of hidden areas and passageways – including a private staircase linking the King’s quarters to the outside world.

The declassified maps showing underground chambers and tunnels were used for a wide-ranging security upgrade in the 1960s and have been newly released at The National Archives.

Marked ‘confidential’, the drawings show a discreet staircase tucked away to the rear of the Sovereign’s entrance in the south-east corner of King Charles III’s residence in Berkshire.

Interconnected subways, bricked-up areas and chambers are also shown in the bird’s eye plans of the castle, which dates back to the 11th Century.

A large wine cellar is also shown at basement level.

The maps were used for the security review which included an upgrade to the alarm system

The plans also show various features designed to keep out intruders, such as a control room and an alarm bell.

In 2011, the first ever publicly broadcast footage inside a secret escape tunnel at the castle followed Fiona Bruce walking through the passageway.

The BBC presenter showed viewers a trap door concealed under a carpet in an office.

She said: ‘This is an office just tucked away in a corner of Windsor Castle.

‘But look under here. As if by magic, just lift these and the medieval castle emerges.’

Declassified Windsor Castle Plan

The Sovereign’s private stairs can be seen in the south-east corner of the map with a red dot marking a detection point

Walking down the stone steps, Bruce provided insights into the rich history of the working palace and private home, which spans 484,000 square feet of space.

Founded by William the Conqueror and originally used as a fortress, the castle has many layers of intrigue and history, some of which are open to visitors.

Bruce said: ‘If you’re a soldier in Windsor Castle under siege you need a way to get out. And this is the secret passage.

‘This is exactly what it looked like in the 1200s.

‘It’s wide enough to accommodate a whole army of men. You can just imagine them rushing down the stairs, and it leads out onto the street.

‘This is the clever bit – they’d then be able to sneak up on the enemy and attack them from behind.’

It’s not clear if the tunnel is the same as the private staircase shown in the newly-released plans, which were originally drawn up in 1935 by HM Office of Works before being used to map out the security upgrade.

The CRUEL Six-Word Sentence Charles Said to Princess Diana Before Their Bitter Divorce

Princess Diana had struggled to adapt to the Firm, unlike her sister-in-law Sarah Ferguson who was a 'proper country girl' - Charles, who at that time was 'just a prince', made a cutting comment at the time

BBC 27 AUG 2023

Princess Diana and Charles ' divorce shocked the world, including the details that continued to come out surrounding their messy separation.

Diana had struggled to adapt to the Firm, unlike her sister-in-law Sarah Ferguson. As a "proper country girl", she had a lot in common with her new in-laws including a passion for animals, skiing and horseriding. And it wasn't long before people started to compare the two women, with a cutting comment from Prince Charles highlighting had bad things had become.

Previously speaking on Channel 5's Fergie Vs Diana: Royal Wives at War, royal expert Jennie Bond said: "She fitted in really well. Fergie really threw herself into the family life. Often Diana would be seen to be the moody one, and Fergie was the good fun, frolicking girl who was a breath of fresh air in the family."

Aware of the differences between his wife and his brother Prince Andrew's other half, Charles one day asked Diana why she wasn't more like Fergie, the Duchess of York.

Psychologist Jo Hemmings told the documentary: "There was a point at which Charles said to Diana,

'why can't you be more Fergie?'.

For someone whose self-esteem is already pretty low, who is feeling very vulnerable. That wasn't just a rebute. That would have been one of the most cutting, hurtful remarks that her husband could have made to her."

Before tensions between the two women started to build, they were extremely close friends and it was actually Diana who set Fergie up with Andrew.

But long before that, Diana tried to get Sarah into the fold by asking the royals if she could be her lady-in-waiting - a high honour that sits somewhere between close friend and personal assistant. However, the royals rejected Diana's request, saying Sarah wasn't suitable.

Sarah's friend Lizzie Cundy previously said: "Sarah was told that she was actually unsuitable to be Diana's lady-in-waiting, which was a huge blow to Sarah. I think the Royal Family felt Sarah wasn't posh enough. Diana was actually quite upset about this but maybe she didn't fight for Sarah enough. Maybe she could have put her foot down more."

Royal biographer Tom Quinn previously claimed that the Palace was "nervous" of Fergie, who was loud and outspoken.

He told the programme: "It's not a servant and it's not a friend. It's sort of somewhere halfway between. It's a genteel occupation and gives enormous status. Diana was persuaded that it was to risky having Sarah Ferguson, she was seen as a loose cannon. She was fun, but she made them nervous."

Diana also defended her sister-in-law to other members of the royal family during her early days in the Firm. Speaking on the documentary, Richard Kay, editor-at-large at the Daily Mail spoke about one particular instance that took place not long after Sarah joined the family.

He said: "Diana had quite a set-to with 'HORSEY' Princess Anne, who was complaining about something that Fergie had done. Diana stood up for her and said her piece. It was rather brave of Diana. She more or less asked Anne, 'you've got to give her a break. Fergie is good for the family but she's finding it hard to adjust, just as I did'."

Kings' Guard Forced to Hit Emergency Help Button as Horse Goes Wild in Front of Tourists

One of the Kings' Guard sentries spent around ten minutes trying to keep his distressed horse under control as it bucked its head and shifted uneasily from side-to-side before calling for help

BBC 28 AUG 2023

This is the moment one of the King’s Guards hit the emergency help button after his distressed horse got out of control.

Video footage captured the moment the guard decided to slap the button, when stationed outside the Horse Guards, London. A tourist appears to be posing for a picture besides the guard on the sunny day, believed to be sometime last week.

The unsettled animal appears distressed by something and begins shaking its head and shifting uneasily on the spot. Huge crowds looked on, with many filming the incident.

The royal guard tries to keep his horse calm and under control at the posting, but eventually decides to hit the button calling for aid.

The distressed animal begins moving from side-to-side as a tourist who was having their photo taken retreats out of shot. Stationed in the doorway, the spooked black horse shifts to the far side and bumps into the wall before coming back again, shaking and bucking its head.

Onlookers on social media expressed concern for the horse. One wrote: “Clearly, the horse is stressed for a reason. The guard has wonderful horsemanship. As for the tourists, this is not a modelling opportunity - take your photo and move away. The horse is stressed enough as it is.”

Another said: “That guard was itching to press that emergency button way before he finally did, he kept looking at it, I was willing him to "Press that button" as it was clear the horse was not going to settle!”

Queen Elizabeth II - 70 Years on The Throne - Marked by Her Strong Sense of Duty

The long reign of Queen Elizabeth II was marked by her strong sense of duty and her determination to dedicate her life to her throne and to her people.

Obituary: Queen Elizabeth II

The long reign of Queen Elizabeth II was marked by her strong sense of duty and her determination to dedicate her life to her throne and to her people.

She became for many the one constant point in a rapidly changing world as British influence declined, society changed beyond recognition and the role of the monarchy itself came into question.

Her success in maintaining the monarchy through such turbulent times was even more remarkable given that, at the time of her birth, no-one could have foreseen that the throne would be her destiny.

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born on 21 April 1926, in a house just off Berkeley Square in London, the first child of Albert, Duke of York, second son of George V, and his duchess, the former Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.

Baby Elizabeth with her parents at her christening

Both Elizabeth and her sister, Margaret Rose, who was born in 1930, were educated at home and brought up in a loving family atmosphere. Elizabeth was extremely close to both her father and her grandfather, George V.

At the age of six, Elizabeth told her riding instructor that she wanted to become a "country lady with lots of horses and dogs".

She was said to have shown a remarkable sense of responsibility from a very early age. Winston Churchill, the future prime minister, was quoted as saying that she possessed "an air of authority that was astonishing in an infant".

Despite not attending school, Elizabeth proved adept at languages and made a detailed study of constitutional history.

A special Girl Guides company, the 1st Buckingham Palace, was formed so that she could socialise with girls of her own age.

On the death of George V in 1936, his eldest son, known as David, became Edward VIII.

However, his choice of wife, the twice-divorced American Wallis Simpson, was deemed to be unacceptable on political and religious grounds. At the end of the year he abdicated.

Princess Elizabeth makes her first broadcast, accompanied by her younger sister Princess Margaret Rose 12 October 1940 in London

A reluctant Duke of York became King George VI. His Coronation gave Elizabeth a foretaste of what lay in store for her and she later wrote that she had found the service "very, very wonderful".

Against a background of increasing tension in Europe, the new King, together with his wife, Queen Elizabeth, set out to restore public faith in the monarchy. Their example was not lost on their elder daughter.

In 1939, the 13-year-old princess accompanied the King and Queen to the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth.

Together with her sister Margaret, she was escorted by one of the cadets, her third cousin, Prince Philip of Greece.
Obstacles

It was not the first time they had met, but it was the first time she took an interest in him.

Prince Philip called on his royal relatives when on leave from the navy, and by 1944, when she was 18, Elizabeth was clearly in love with him. She kept his picture in her room and they exchanged letters.

The young princess briefly joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) towards the end of the war, learning to drive and service a lorry. On VE Day, she joined the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace as thousands gathered in The Mall to celebrate the end of the war in Europe.

"We asked my parents if we could go out and see for ourselves," she later recalled. "I remember we were terrified of being recognised. I remember lines of unknown people linking arms and walking down Whitehall, all of us just swept along on a tide of happiness and relief."

After the war, her desire to marry Prince Philip faced a number of obstacles.

The King was reluctant to lose a daughter on whom he doted, and Philip had to overcome the prejudice of an establishment that could not accept his foreign ancestry.

Princess Elizabeths' wedding to Philip Mountbatten brightened the post-war gloom

But the wishes of the couple prevailed and on 20 November 1947 the couple married in Westminster Abbey.

The Duke of Edinburgh, as Philip had become, remained a serving naval officer. For a short time, a posting to Malta meant the young couple could enjoy a relatively normal life.

Their first child, Charles, was born in 1948, followed by a sister, Anne, who arrived in 1950.

But the King, having suffered considerable stress during the war years, was terminally ill with lung cancer, brought about by a lifetime of heavy smoking.

In January 1952, Elizabeth, then 25, set off with Philip for an overseas tour. The King, against medical advice, went to the airport to see the couple off. It was to be the last time Elizabeth would see her father.

Elizabeth heard of the death of the King while staying at a game lodge in Kenya and the new Queen immediately returned to London.

"In a way, I didn't have an apprenticeship," she later recalled. "My father died much too young, so it was all a very sudden kind of taking on and making the best job you can."

With Britain still enduring post-war austerity, commentators saw the Coronation as the dawn of a new Elizabethan age.

World War Two had served to hasten the end of the British Empire, and by the time the new Queen set off on a lengthy tour of the Commonwealth in November 1953, many former British possessions, including India, had gained independence.

Thumbs down Re: ROYALS: King Charles Ignores Prince Harrys' Birthday as He Continues His LONG Hol

King Charles Fails to Acknowledge Prince Harrys' Birthday as He Continues His Never Ending Scottish Holiday

King Charles has been out and about 'visiting' an anti-poverty charity in Perthshire today - as his youngest son Prince Harry was hundreds of miles away in Germany at the Invictus Games on his 39th birthday

BBC 16 SEP 2023

Prince Harry celebrates his birthday - but it has so far been ignored by his father.

The monarch has been out and about in Scotland as Harry was hundreds of miles away in Germany at the Invictus Games, where he turned 39. So far there have been no publicised birthday wishes for Harry from his dad or any other royals on social media - despite often sharing tributes to mark the day in the past.

The King and Harry have not been together since the Coronation in May and the two did not make time to see each other last week either when both were in the UK at the same time. It comes as an insider previously claimed that Harry's relationship with his father and brother Prince William remains "firmly rooted at rock bottom" and reconciliation is a "long way off". Harry took aim at his dad in both his Netflix series and his controversial memoir Spare and also heavily criticised his stepmother CONSORT Camilla.

Meanwhile today, Charles visited Kinross in Perthshire to hear how an anti-poverty charity has been making a difference to people’s lives. He dropped in on St Paul’s Church to meet Annie McCormack, the founder of Broke Not Broken.

Meanwhile, over in Dusseldorf, Harry appeared fresh-faced as he and Meghan Markle arrived at the penultimate day of the Games to watch the sitting volleyball competition today.

The pair walked hand-in-hand as they took their seats in the arena with Meghan donning a chic beige playsuit from Zara with a cream Celine blazer, while Harry opted for a pale blue shirt. The crowd cheered as the arena announcer revealed it was turning 39 and the crowd sang along with a chorus of Happy Birthday.

He kicked off his birthday celebrations early yesterday with a night of good food at a traditional beer hall in Germany. He and Meghan took a group of their aides for dinner at Im Goldened Kessel restaurant on Thursday, tucking into plates of traditional grub - including bratwurst, red cabbage and mashed potato. They were seen laughing and joking throughout the night.

The RUTHLESS Execution Of King Charles I

One of the most shocking and brutal executions in History was when the King of England and Scotland Charles I made his way to the executioner's scaffold in London.

BBC 1 OCT 2023

A c. 1649 painting showing the execution of Charles I of England (r. 1625-1649) in London on 30 January 1649. By Jan Weesop. (Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh)

As a King, Charles I was disastrous; as a man, he faced his death with courage and dignity. His trial and execution were the first of their kind.

Charles I only became heir when his brother Henry died in 1612. Charles had many admirable personal qualities, but he was painfully shy and insecure. He also lacked the charisma and vision essential for leadership. His stubborn refusal to compromise over power-sharing finally ignited civil war.

Seven years of fighting between Charles’ supporters and Oliver Cromwell’s Parliamentarians claimed the lives of thousands, and ultimately, of the King himself. Charles was convicted of treason and executed on 30 January 1649 outside the Banqueting House in Whitehall.

King Charles I had been responsible for the English Civil War, the deadliest conflict ever fought on English soil and he was a terrible King. He believed he was above the law and would regularly argue with Parliament, but following his loss in the civil war, Charles I would be condemned for treason.

Imprisonment

In 1646 Charles was imprisoned by Cromwell and put under house arrest in the old Tudor royal apartments at Hampton Court Palace (pictured), from where he famously escaped. He was soon recaptured and kept prisoner at Carisbrooke Castle on the Isle of Wight, where he was well-treated.

But despite many opportunities, Charles refused to repent and seek a negotiated peace. He stubbornly refused to accept defeat or submit to the republican authority.

Charles I on the 30th January 1649 was led onto the execution scaffold and he was confronted by an axeman and a very low block. After making a speech to the crowd, the King would make his final preparations before he gave the signal for the executioner to swing his axe.

It was the killing of a King, and an execution that is still felt around Britain today.

Jaswant Singh Chail: Man Who Took Crossbow to Kill Queen Elizabeth II Jailed For Treason

A crossbow-wielding man who arrived at Windsor Castle with plans to assassinate the Queen has been jailed for nine years for treason.

BBC 6 OCT 2023

Jaswant Singh Chail was intercepted by royal protection officers in the grounds of Windsor Castle

Jaswant Singh Chail, 21, was arrested while the late monarch stayed in the castle on Christmas Day 2021.

The Old Bailey heard he was spurred on by his artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot "girlfriend" Sarai and inspired by storylines from Star Wars.

Chail will also be subject to a hybrid order under the Mental Health Act.

This means he will remain in a psychiatric hospital for now but will be transferred to custody when he receives the treatment he needs.

The crossbow Jaswant Singh Chail had in his possession on his arrest

Chail, from North Baddesley, near Southampton, is the first person in the UK to be convicted of treason since 1981.

He had also pleaded guilty to making threats to kill and being in possession of an offensive weapon.

Passing sentence during a live TV broadcast, Judge Mr Justice Hilliard said Chail had experienced homicidal thoughts that he acted upon before becoming psychotic.

"His intention was not just to harm or alarm the sovereign - but to kill her," the judge said, adding that Chail's intention to kill made the offence "as serious as it could be".

The former supermarket worker scaled the perimeter of the castle with a nylon rope ladder and was in the grounds for two hours before two officers confronted him with tasers.

He was armed with a powerful crossbow with the safety catch off that was capable of firing bolts with "lethal" effect, the Old Bailey was told.

Chail was found wearing a metal mask in a private section of the castle grounds just after 08:10 GMT.

He told the officers he was there to "kill" Queen Elizabeth II and immediately surrendered.

In a video posted on Snapchat minutes before he entered the grounds, Chail said his actions were "a revenge" for those who had died in the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, when British troops opened fire on thousands of people who had gathered in the city of Amritsar in India.

Chail, who is from a family of Indian Sikh heritage, said in the same video that his actions were a "for those who have been killed, humiliated and discriminated on because of their race".

The mask recovered from Jaswant Singh Chail on his arrest

In his remarks the judge said Chail demonstrated a wider ideology focused on destroying old empires and creating a new one, including in the fictional context such as Star Wars.

The court was told he described himself as a "Sith Lord" as he was obsessed with the sci-fi characters in the fantasy film franchise and their role in shaping the world.

He had confided his murderous plan to AI chatbot Sarai, which exchanged 5,000 sexually charged messages with him in the weeks before.

Chail, who regarded Sarai as his girlfriend, believed the two would be reunited after he killed the Queen.

He told Sarai he loved her and described himself as a "sad, pathetic, murderous Sikh Sith assassin who wants to die".

Chail, whose messages are in blue, appeared to make his intentions plain to the chatbot

At his sentencing hearing, the court heard Sarai told him his "purpose was to live" and he therefore decided to surrender to the royal protection officers.

The judge said Chail was also "culpable to a significant degree" when he applied unsuccessfully to join the Ministry of Defence Police and Grenadier Guards because he "wanted to get close to the royal family".

Chail made internet searches on "Sandringham Christmas" and also attempted to obtain a gun on the "dark web" before buying the crossbow in November 2021.

He had a "lonely, depressed and suicidal state of mind" and has since expressed "distress and sadness" about the impact his actions had on the Royal Family", the court also heard.

The Queen had been staying at Windsor, rather than spending Christmas as usual on her Sandringham estate

As well as the nine years in prison, Chail was also given a further five years on extended licence.

Under the 1842 Treason Act it is an offence to assault the monarch or have a firearm, or offensive weapon in their presence with intent to injure or alarm them, or to cause a breach of peace.

In 1981, Marcus Sarjeant was jailed for five years under the section of the Treason Act after he fired blank shots at the Queen while she was riding down The Mall in London during the Trooping the Colour parade.

Inside The Turbulent Life of Oldest WORKING Royal Who is Part of Secret Organisation

The Royal Family is celebrating the birthday of its oldest working member, who still carries out duties for King Charles - despite having reached the impressive age of 88

BBC 10 OCT 2023

The Duke of Kent with the Princess of Wales at Wimbledon in 2021. The Duke devoted his life to serving his cousin the late Queen

He's tirelessly carried out royal duties for most of his life and is now the Firm's oldest working member. But despite his devotion to duty, many are unaware of the turbulent and often dramatic life of the Duke of Kent, a cousin of the late Queen, who still carries out engagements on behalf of the new monarch, King Charles.

His roller coaster life has seen him combine his royal service with heading up one of the most secretive organisations and experiencing religious scandal within his own family. And as he marks his 88th birthday today, here we take a look at the Duke of Kent's very colourful past...

The Duke of Kent, whose first name is Edward, was born on this day in 1935 and is the eldest child of Prince George and Princess Marina of Greece in Denmark - making him a first cousin of Elizabeth II. He has a younger sister, Princess Alexandra, and a younger brother, Prince Michael of Kent.

At the age of just six, and just after the birth of Princess Michael, his father George was tragically killed in an RAF plane crash in Caithness, Scotland, during World War Two. The crash shook the Royal Family to its core and six-year-old Edward then inherited his father's titles of Duke of Kent, Earl of St Andrews and Baron Downpatrick.

Like Princes William and Harry, although much earlier, he was educated at both Ludgrove Prep School as well as Eton College before he went to Le Rosey Institute in Switzerland. And like the young princes, he also attended the Sandhurst Military Academy, which set him up for a distinguished 20-year career in the Army.

The Duke with his wife Katharine, a most wonderful lady

The Dukes' first big moment in royal life came in 1953 when as an 18-year-old he took part in the late Queen's Coronation and solemnly pledged to be her "liege man of life and limb" - a promise he upheld until she died last year at the age of 96. Later that decade, he met his future wife Katharine Worsley, the daughter of a Yorkshire landowner, and in 1961, the couple tied the knot in a glitzy wedding at York Minster that captivated the country's imagination.

The couple have three children - George, Earl of St Andrews, Lady Helen Taylor and Lord Nicholas Windsor. They also have 10 grandchildren, including the model who was once dubbed the world's most beautiful royal Lady Amelia Windsor.

The 88-year-old had a distinguished Army career

However, the couple suffered heartbreak in 1977 when their son Patrick was stillborn. The Duchess of Kent later opened up about how she suffered from severe depression after this and reports once suggested she and the Duke had been on the verge of splitting, although they decided to remain together.

In 1994, the Duke and his wife made headlines, when she she converted to Roman Catholicism. While this was a significant move for a member of the Royal Family to make, it did not affect Edward and his place in the line of succession. It has, however, impacted members of his immediate family as many of them have lost their place in the Line of Succession owing to the constraints of the Succession to the Crown Act 2013.

The Duke at King Charles' Coronation with sister Princess Alexandra (left) and the Duchess of Gloucester (right)

Both the Duke and Duchess's official home is Wren House at Kensington Palace, although Katharine has all but retreated from public life. She is hardly ever seen with her husband now and does not use the title or HRH status.

During that time, Edward has dedicated his time to causes such as the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the Stroke Association and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. From 1969 to 2021, he was president of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and would famously present the winners of Wimbledon with their trophies each year.

Interestingly, one of the dukes' most famous associations is the Freemasons. He was initiated into the secretive organisation in 1963 and has risen through the ranks ever since. In 1967, he was made the Grand Master and marked his 50th anniversary as a Freemason in 2013.

Inside Crumbling Malta Home Where Queen and Prince Philip Lived a Normal Life - Villa Guardamangia

Prince Philip was honoured on the island of Malta as a dilapidated mansion the Queen once called home is being turned into a museum to depict the relationship between Britain and Malta

BBC 25 OCT 2023

Photographs capture the crumbling home in Malta where Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip enjoyed a "normal life". Pictured in 1949, Prince Philip lived here with Queen Elizabeth when he was stationed with the Royal Navy

The mansion called Villa Guardamangia became dilapidated but, after Prince Philip's death, work is being carried out to restore it and turn the building into a museum. But between 1949 and 1951, the royal couple called it home as the duke served on HMS Chequers with the Mediterranean Fleet. Heritage Malta's chief operating officer, Kenneth Gambin, said there was "a feeling of sadness" on the island after Philip's death.

The country's national agency for conservation practice and cultural heritage is in the process of transforming the crumbing building into a museum. The first floor will feature a reconstruction of how the house looked when Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II moved in.

Paying tribute to Prince Philip, Mr Gambin said: "He was remembered fondly, because everyone knew that Malta had a special place in his heart. People remain somewhat attached to him because they know that he remembered Malta fondly. He took every opportunity to come here again when he could."

The royal husband and wife's stay in Malta offered them their only real taste of life as a relatively ordinary couple before the Queen's ascension to the throne. They had the freedom to enjoy parties, picnics and boat expeditions, and the princess was even able to take a trip to the hairdressers for the first time.

The future Queen split her time between the island and England, where a young Prince of Wales remained with his grandparents, leaving Malta for a time in 1950 to give birth to Princess Anne.

The agency describes it as "a national treasure" and "a classic Baroque example of a summer palace". It is thought Philip's uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten - who was also once a tenant at the villa, introduced it to the royal couple.

Prince Philip died aged 99 on April 9, 2021, at Windsor Castle. The Queen announced her "deep sorrow" as she confirmed the Duke of Edinburgh, who had been treated for a pre-existing heart condition and an infection, passed away just two months before his 100th birthday.

Dad-of-four Philip was the longest-serving consort in British history, dedicating decades of his life to royal duty, serving the nation at the monarch's side.

Queen Elizabeth II died aged 96 on 8 September 2022, at Balmoral. In the year of her Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of dedicated service to the Throne, the longest serving monarch passed away at her beloved Scottish estate.

Happy Birthday King Charles III - 75yrs Old Today

But Did You Know He Had Two Birthdays?

BBC 14 NOV 2023

HAPPY AS USUAL....

Today marks His Majesty King Charles III's 75th birthday.

It’s a long-standing tradition in what some might consider an archaic institution. The current monarch has two birthdays: 17 June and 14 November.

Indeed, just like his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, the former world’s oldest intern celebrates two birthdays a year.

Her Majesty was born in 1926 on 21 April, but an ‘official birthday celebration’ took place in the form of Trooping the Colour – a summertime parade, usually held in June.

Charles is continuing the tradition, having previously celebrated his ‘official birthday’ on 17 June 2023, and today celebrating his actual day of birth.

The tradition of Trooping the Colour dates back to 1748.

The ceremonial event is performed every year on Horse Guards Parade in London by regiments of Household Division, to celebrate the official birthday of the British sovereign. It is also known as the Sovereign's Birthday Parade.

According to Royal Museums Greenwich, George II started the tradition. He moved his birthday celebrations to coincide with the annual military parade, as he thought the public wouldn’t be able to celebrate in November, his actual birth month – mostly because of the weather.

It was decided in 1748 that the parade of Trooping the Colour should mark the official birthday of the Sovereign.

Prince William and Princess of Wales have released an intimate and relaxed family portrait with their three children in matching white shirts that will appear on the front of their Christmas card this year.

The black and white image chosen by the Prince and Princess of Wales shows the pair smiling alongside sons Prince George, 10, Prince Louis, five and Princess Charlotte, eight, who is sat in a chair at the front of the group.

The three men and boys are dressed in matching plain shirts - George opting for a Ralph Lauren Polo number - and dark trousers, while Kate and Charlotte have swapped the trousers for denim jeans.

The Princess of Wales was joined by her three children at Westminster Abbey on Friday, each holding candles ahead of her Together at Christmas carol service

The King and Consort, meanwhile, have opted for a Coronation photograph taken at Buckingham Palace to grace their festive card, which will be sent to friends, family and colleagues.

The formal image, showing Charles and Camilla in the palace throne room following the ceremony in May, was taken by photographer Hugo Burnand who captured the couple standing side by side.

At just nine years of age, Tony Hudgell is the youngest. He is being awarded a British Empire Medal for services to the prevention of child abuse.

He has raised over £1.8million for the hospital that saved his life after he suffered horrific abuse as a baby in West Malling, Kent.

Along with his adoptive mother, he founded the Tony Hudgell Foundation in 2021 to support and help vulnerable children, and has also inspired an English law change to increase prison sentences for those convicted of child cruelty and neglect.

Tony, who raises money walking vast distances on prosthetics after his legs were amputated in infancy following his abuse, has struck up a special relationship with the Princess of Wales.

New Year Honours 2024:

King Charles III's New Years Honours list for 2024 has been announced, with individuals recognised for their service to the arts, public health, politics, education, diplomacy, charity and more.

Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis and best-selling writer Jilly Cooper are among those recognised in the 2024 New Year Honours list.

Actress Emilia Clarke is named MBE alongside England goalkeeper Mary Earps, while captain Millie Bright and singer Leona Lewis become OBEs.

Ex-rugby league players Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield become CBEs for raising awareness of motor neurone disease.

Founder of pub chain JD Wetherspoon, Tim Martin, receives a knighthood.

Eavis also receives a knighthood and becomes Sir Michael, while Cooper, now Dame Jilly, is given a damehood in the honours list - which recognises the achievements of hundreds of people across the UK.

Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow, pictured at the inaugural Rob Burrow Leeds marathon in May, receive CBEs

Kevin Sinfield has raised more than £15m since Rob Burrow, his friend and former Leeds Rhinos teammate, was diagnosed with MND in December 2019, aged 37.

Sinfield, who completed a seven-day ultra-marathon challenge earlier in December, says receiving the honour is "really special", but attention should be focussed on Burrow's courage in fighting the incurable and life-limiting condition.

"To open the front door and show the world what it's like to live with it has been incredible from him," he says.

Sir Michael, 88, who founded the Glastonbury Festival on his Somerset farm in 1970, is awarded a knighthood for services to music and charity. Each festival contributes more than £2m to charity.

"We started with 500 people and we've finished up with millions wanting to come every year," he says. "That's quite extraordinary, isn't it?"

Novelist Dame Jilly is best known for her popular Rutshire Chronicles series, including titles such as Riders and Polo, which detail upper class adultery and scandal. Her novel Rivals is being adapted into a star-studded series for Disney+.

The 86-year-old, who is awarded a damehood for services to literature and charity, says: "I am absolutely and incredibly bowled over. I cannot believe I am a DBE, which in my case also stands for 'delighted, bewildered and ecstatic'."

Meanwhile, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby is made a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (RVO) for conducting King Charles' coronation service. This award is selected independently by the King.

Businessman Sir Tim Martin, 68, who is honoured for services to hospitality and culture, owns more than 800 pubs and hotels across the UK, employing more than 43,000 people.

He dedicated his award, which he says came "out of the blue", to his colleagues and customers. "In the pub world, it is a team effort - even if you've just got one pub, there are many people involved," he adds.

Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke, who survived two brain haemorrhages, is made an MBE alongside her mother Jenny, for establishing a charity, called SameYou, which helps others who have had similar conditions.

She says the award is "wonderful awareness building for the cause".

Lionesses Millie Bright, Lauren Hemp and Mary Earp helped England finish as runners up to Spain at the World Cup...

In sport, three Lionesses are among those recognised. Captain Millie Bright is appointed an OBE, while striker Lauren Hemp and goalkeeper Mary Earps - also voted 2023 BBC Sports Personality of the Year - become MBEs after finishing as runners-up in the women's World Cup.

England fast bowler Stuart Broad, who retired after this year's Ashes, is named CBE. He played 167 Test matches for England and retired as the fifth highest Test wicket-taker of all time.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark Announces Surprise Abdication Live on TV

Monarch will step down on 14 January, the 52nd anniversary of her accession, and leave the throne to her son Crown Prince Frederik, Princess Mary from Australia, will become Queen of Denmark

The Guardian 1 JAN 2024

Queen Margrethe II announces her abdication after 52 years on the throne, during her televised new year speech.

Queen Margrethe, who will continue to hold the title Her Majesty, became queen on 14 January 1972 after the death of her father, King Frederik IX.

In a speech from Christian IX’s Palace at Amalienborg, the queen said: “I have decided that now is the right time. On 14 January 2024, 52 years after I succeeded my beloved father, I will step down as Queen of Denmark. I leave the throne to my son, Crown Prince Frederik.”

Back surgery in February made her reassess her position and consider “if the time had not come to leave the responsibility to the next generation”.

“Time is running out, and the ills are increasing. You can no longer overcome the same things as you once could,” she said.

The Danish prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, thanked the queen for her service. “On behalf of the entire population, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Her Majesty the Queen for her lifelong dedication and tireless efforts for the kingdom,” she said.

“Although the duty and position of regent has been handed down for more than 1,000 years, it is still difficult to understand that the time has now come for a change of throne.

“Many of us have never known another regent. Queen Margrethe is the epitome of Denmark and throughout the years has put words and feelings into who we are as a people and as a nation.

“In the new year, Crown Prince Frederik will be proclaimed king. Crown Princess Mary will become queen.

The kingdom will have a new regent and a new royal couple. We can look forward to all of this in the knowledge that they are ready for the responsibility and the task.”

The Australian-born Mary Donaldson became Crown Princess of Denmark in 2004 on her marriage to Crown Prince Frederik. She grew up in Tasmania, eventually moving to Sydney where she met Frederik during the 2000 Olympics. She moved to Copenhagen in 2002 before the couple were married two years later.

Queen Margrethe had been of “undeniable importance” to Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Greenland, Frederiksen said, for which she is recognised “with equal parts gratitude and admiration”.

Margrethe II has been one of the most popular public figures in Denmark. She often walked the streets of Copenhagen virtually unescorted and won the admiration of Danes for her warm manners and her talents as a linguist and designer.

A keen skier, she was a member of a Danish women’s air force unit as a princess, taking part in judo courses and endurance tests in the snow. She remained tough even as she grew older.

In 2011, at age 70, she visited Danish troops in southern Afghanistan wearing a military jumpsuit.

As monarch, she crisscrossed the country and regularly visited Greenland and the Faroe Islands, the two semi-independent territories which are part of the Danish realm, and was met everywhere by cheering crowds.

Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederiks’ Real Life Fairytale Romance

Mary Donaldson, the girl from Tassie Australia, and her fairytale romance with Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark.

23 years ago, no could have predicted a royal love story for the ages was about to unfold. Today, Mary Donaldson is the Crown Princess of Denmark, married to the future king, Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark.

But Mary’s road to love began like any other romance. She first crossed paths with Fred at Sydney CBD pub the Slip Inn during the 2000 Olympics. The then 28-year-old had no idea she’d just met a Danish royal.

“The first time we met we shook hands,” she recalled. “I didn’t know he was prince Frederik. Half an hour later someone came up to me and said, ‘Do you know who these people are?'”

The first year of their romance was a long-distance relationship, with Frederik making secret trips to Australia. In 2001, Mary moved to Denmark and their story rocketed into international folklore.

Two years later, on October 8, 2003, it was announced that the couple were officially engaged.

“I don’t recall wishing that one day I would be a princess,” Mary said shortly after the engagement. “I wanted to be a veterinarian.”

The couple married on May 14, 2004, at Copenhagen Cathedral in the nation’s capital, where Mary wore a beautiful gown created by Danish designer Uffe Frank.

“From today, Mary is mine and I am hers,” Fred said at the altar. “I love her and I will protect her with all my love.”

Frederik and Mary have been married for 19 years and are the proud parents to four children: Prince Christian (born on Oct. 15, 2005), Princess Isabella (born on Apr. 21, 2007), and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine (born Jan. 8, 2011).

Princess Anne Arrives in Sri Lanka For Some Sun...

Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne, the Princess Royal of the United Kingdom, arrived in Sri Lanka aboard a SriLankan Airlines flight for a two-day official visit, commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the UK.

Daily Mirror 10 JAN 2024

Princess Anne, sister of Britains’ King Charles, and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence arrived in Sri Lanka today for a three-day visit to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations between the UK and Sri Lanka.

Issuing a statement, the British High Commission in Colombo yesterday said that while in Colombo, The Princess Royal will meet with President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

She will meet with businesses and charities; visit Save the Children Sri Lanka Programme; and a Commonwealth War Grave under her new role as President of Commonwealth War Graves.

The Princess Royal will also visit sites of religious significance in Kandy and Colombo, and meet local communities and civil society representatives while in Jaffna.

The Princess Royal previously visited Sri Lanka in March 1995 as patron of Save the Children, to learn more about projects supported by the charity.

This trip will be the Royal familys’ first overseas tour of 2024.

Britains’ Daily Mail earlier reported that Princess Anne, 73, has been dubbed the Kings’ right-hand woman thanks to her support for her brother, and her reputation as one of the most hard-working royals in Charles’ ‘slimmed-down’ monarchy.

Queen Elizabeth Died in Her Sleep. At The Time of Her Death, She Was “Very Peaceful,” She Wouldn’t Have Been Aware of Anything. No Pain.”

Queen Elizabeth Left Sealed Deathbed Letter For Her Sons, Probably Her Decree That Camilla Must Have The Title of Queen-CONSORT NOT Queen. Charles Decided to Drop The CONSORT Part

Charles Found Out His Mother Had Died While Picking Mushrooms at Balmoral

The Guardian 13 JAN 2024

Queen Elizabeth II was photographed for the final time on 6 September 2022, two days before her death

Queen Elizabeth II's final moments in Balmoral were "very peaceful" and without pain, a memo by her private secretary reportedly says.

Charles was picking mushrooms at Balmoral

Sir Edward Young wrote she "slipped away" in her sleep when she died and "wouldn't have been aware of anything".

The document is part of a new biography of the King written by the Daily Mail's royal writer Robert Hardman.

Buckingham Palace said it would not be commenting on the "unauthorised" biography.

The book, being serialised in the Daily Mail, reports the King was picking mushrooms nearby when his mother died.

According to the newspaper, the full text of Sir Edward's memo about the Queen's death on 8 September 2022 reads: "Very peaceful. In her sleep. Slipped away. Old age. She wouldn't have been aware of anything. No pain."

The document is understood to be in the Royal Archives and forms part of Mr Hardman's new book titled;

Charles III: New King, New Court. The Inside Story.

The biography claims a locked red box of paperwork containing two sealed letters was found at the late-Queens' deathbed - one addressed to then-Prince Charles and another to Sir Edward.

It was brought to the Royal aide shortly after he wrote the memo and also contained her choice of people to be awarded the Order of Merit for "exceptionally meritorious service" across the Commonwealth, the Daily Mail said.

The King and Camilla spent an hour with her privately before she died and Princess Anne, a minister from a nearby church and the late Queens' senior dresser alternated at her bedside, the paper reports.

On the Kings' actions in those final hours, the Daily Mail reports that he called both of his sons and told them to travel up to Scotland as soon as possible to say their goodbyes.

The King, who had gone out to gather mushrooms and clear his head after seeing his mother, was told she had died as he was driving back to Balmoral, according to the Daily Mail.

He pulled over and was addressed for the first time as "Your Majesty", the biography says.

Afterwards when the King called Prince William via the Buckingham Palace switchboard to break the news, he told the phone operator on the other end of the line "it's me", after realising he could not reveal he had become monarch yet.

The King did try to contact his younger son to tell him personally as well, but Prince Harry was already flying to Scotland and he could not get through, the book reports.

Queen Elizabeths’ Mystery Letter to Australia Can’t Be Read For NEXT 63 Years -Here’s Why...

A secret letter written by Queen Elizabeth II is locked inside a vault in Sydney, and the interesting this is, that it cannot be opened for 63 years.

Currently, the letter is inside a vault in a historic building in Sydney and was written by the Queen in November 1986 and is addressed to the people of Sydney.

Unhappy Re: ROYALS: Queen Elizabeth KNEW Time Was Short & Thought Where to Spend Her Final Da

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth KNEW Her Time Was Limited....

Charles Was Impatient to be King OR Regent in Queens' Last Years:

The Then Prince Was Reluctant Not to Seem Impatient, as He Had Done Previously Over The Years

Daily Mail 14 JAN 2024

Right to the end, the Queen was endearingly reluctant to cause unnecessary inconvenience to others.

The Queen knew full well that her remaining time was limited. She had been giving serious thought as to where she might spend her final days and discussed it within the family.

'There was a moment when she felt that it would be more difficult if she died at Balmoral,' says Princess Anne (every monarch since the creation of Great Britain had died in England).

'And I think we did try and persuade her that shouldn't be part of the decision-making process. So I hope she felt that that was right in the end.'

The precise cause of the Queens' death, says a close friend of the family, will never be known because she had been suffering from multiple conditions in her final year.

'She had come to realise that the medical prognosis meant she was not going to emulate her mother and reach 100, so she had been determined to make the most of that [final] year,' says one friend.

'She made sure she had all the family up over the summer, so that the young ones in particular would always be left with happy memories of her.'

Well before the Queen had become noticeably frail, there had been years of anxiety within the Royal Household about how long she could continue to reign.

However, preliminary planning for the accession and coronation of the next monarch had actually begun at the end of 2015.

Daily Mail 17 JAN 2024

The Princess of Wales will spend up to two weeks in hospital after having successful abdominal surgery, royal aides revealed today

On an extraordinary afternoon of royal announcements that saw the monarchy hit by a health scare, William was combining being at Kate's side with caring for their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Princes Louis.

Kate Middleton, 42, was admitted to The London Clinic in Marylebone yesterday for the planned procedure and is expected to remain in hospital for ten to 14 days..

Sarah Ferguson Diagnosed With Skin Cancer Just Months After Breast Cancer Treatment

Sarah Ferguson, 64, is diagnosed with malignant melanoma just months after being treated for breast cancer - as those close to the Duchess of York reveal 'it's not been an easy time' but she 'remains in good spirits'

Daily Mail 22 JAN 2024

Sarah Ferguson has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of skin cancer, just months after undergoing surgery for breast cancer.

The Duchess of York was given the news after dermatologists removed several moles during treatment for her last cancer last year. One of the moles was found to be a malignant melanoma, which is a type of skin cancer than can spread to other parts of the body.

The Duchess of York has had a mole removed from her body which tests have since found to be a malignant melanoma which is the most serious type of skin cancer.

It comes after the 64-year-old underwent a breast operation for cancer last year, with insiders saying it has 'not been an easy time' for her.

The mother-of-two had a number of moles removed while undergoing breast reconstruction surgery last year, one of which was found to be malignant.

The Duchess, who is the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, was described as being in 'good spirits' after the 'distressing' news, which was broken to her just days after Christmas.

The author has spent the last few weeks in Austria recuperating at a luxury clinic after spending some time with the Royal Family at Sandringham over Christmas.

It is hoped that the cancer was found early enough that she won't have any further problems, but will undergo further tests to determine whether it has spread.

A melanoma is a type of skin cancer that can spread to other areas of the body, mainly caused by exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun or sunbeds.

People with paler skin, a large number of moles and family history of skin cancer tend to be more at risk of developing this.

King Charles lll Extends Hospital Stay as He Recovers From Prostate Surgery, Sparking Concerns For His Health:

Maybe Its Time For Him to Abjugate and Hand Over to Prince William, as He Hasnt Looked Well For Some Time

Royals had planned for monarch to stay at The London Clinic for two nights only, but hospital extends stay as he is 'unwell'

MailOnline 29 JAN 2024

The Kings' hospital stay has been extended as he recovers from surgery for an enlarged prostate, an insider has claimed, sparking concerns for the monarch's health.

Charles, 75, planned on staying at The London Clinic for just two nights following the operation on Friday, but has now been kept in by doctors for a third.

Camilla made a visit to the Kings' bedside on Sunday evening

A source told The Sun: 'It is understood that Charles would only stay in hospital for longer than two nights if there was some kind of unexpected issue.'

They added that the additional night at the clinic 'is entirely precautionary' but may still have caused 'some unease'.

The development comes as the palace confirmed the monarch could be out of action for over a month when he is discharged, missing public engagements.

Checkmark Re: ROYALS: Princess Catherine is Recovering at Adelaide Cottage on The Windsor Estat

Inside Adelaide Cottage Where Princess Catherine Will Recover: The Grade II Listed Royal Residence in Windsor Great Park Was Constructed in 1831

The Princess of Wales set to be out of the public eye until Easter while recovering from abdominal surgery as she spends time at home with her children and Prince William

MailOnline 1 FEB 2024

Princess Catherine 42, has returned to the four-bedroom royal residence she shares with her husband Prince William, 42, and three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

Adelaide Cottage is only a few minutes' walk from Windsor Castle

The four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage which has been recently refurbished and is on the Windsor estate

However, the Grade II listed property constructed in 1831 for William IV's wife Queen Adelaide may not be the most suitable choice for Kate due to its chilly interior, a royal expert has claimed.

Former BBC royal correspondent Michael Cole told GB News the family home was 'absolutely not an ideal place' for recovery from an operation, and cited a description of the property once written by Rosemary Townsend.

'She wrote in her memoir that it was the coldest place she'd ever encountered in the whole of her life. So maybe not the best place to start feeling better, particularly in this quite cold winter that we're enjoying at the moment.'

The Wales family moved from Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage, located within Windsor Great Park, in the summer of 2022.

Their preference was for a residence that required no renovation or added security arrangements (in contrast, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent £2.6m fixing up nearby Frogmore Cottage).

Additionally, four bedrooms were deemed sufficient since there are no live-in staff members. Instead, aides commute to the property as and when their services are needed.

Nestled at the heart of the Crown Estate's private 655-acre royal park, Adelaide Cottage was built in 1831 as a retreat for William IV's wife Queen Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen.

It was also known to be a favourite home of Queen Victoria, as she frequently enjoyed taking her breakfast there.

However, the most famous former resident has to be the late Princess Margaret's ex-lover, Group Captain Peter Townsend, whose affair with the Queens' sister caused a national scandal.

Townsend lived in the grace and favour property in the 1940s with his first wife Rosemary, so he could be on hand for the king in his role as equerry.

Above: Townsend with Princess Margaret in 1955, after their affair had become public knowledge

The cottage underwent major renovations in 2015, which meant that Prince William and Kate did not need to shell out millions in remodelling the house.

Adelaide Cottage still boasts original features, including a marble Graeco-Egyptian fireplace and a principal bedroom, with a coved ceiling featuring gilded dolphins and rope ornament reused from the Royal yacht Royal George.

The property has seven gated entrances and exits to Windsor Castle, so the family can come and go in relative privacy.

For the most part, Adelaide Cottage had sunk back into its backdrop under the shadow of Windsor Castle's grey stone.

Yet the four-bedroom residence does have a colourful past to draw from.

Back in the years following the Second World War, Adelaide Cottage was the grace-and-favour home of Group Captain Peter Townsend and his first wife, Rosemary.

But the dashing RAF pilot would soon precipitate a scandal, becoming the divorced lover of Princess Margaret.

Townsend lived in the property in the 1940s with his first wife, Rosemary, so he could be on hand for the King in his role as equerry.

Despite its proximity to the monarch's residence, the living conditions in the cottage were in stark contrast to its mightier neighbour.

Electricity was delivered to it via cables from Windsor Castle, but the current was so poor that only a vacuum cleaner and a small electric heater could be used at once.

The cottage's interior was allegedly 'gloomy', with Victorian wallpaper and heavy furniture. A commentator in the 1950s described it as 'pokey and unattractive'.

Princess Margaret, along with her sister, then Princess Elizabeth, and mother, Queen Elizabeth, would regularly take tea in the gardens of the cottage with the Townsends and their two young sons.

Margaret was aged just 13 at the time of Townsend's appointment but later admitted: 'When he first appeared, I had a terrific crush on him.'

Townsend and his family left Adelaide Cottage in 1952, when he divorced Rosemary. The affair, however, would be doomed by the Royal Marriages Act, which stated no member of the Royal Family was permitted to marry a divorcee while the ex-partner was still living.

Since then, the cottage has been home to a host of well-connected dignitaries and courtiers, including most recently Simon Rhodes, son of the Queen's cousin and best friend Margaret Rhodes, who died in 2016.

Adelaide Cottage is also nearby to Kate's parents, the Middletons, who live 45-minutes away by car in the village of Bucklebury.

Even closer is Frogmore Cottage, which the Duke and Duchess of Sussex use when visiting the UK, although the brothers' long-running fallout makes it unlikely they will be socialising together any time soon.

According to a source, the Queen offered the Grade II listed property to Harry and Meghan as a gift shortly after they married. The couple allegedly went for a viewing and liked it, but ultimately moved to Frogmore Cottage, before quitting the UK entirely.

Kate, who is said by Kensington Palace to be 'doing well', left the London Clinic in Marylebone yesterday morning after being admitted for surgery on January 16.

The Mail revealed on Monday that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis were not taken to visit their mother in hospital after she recovered 'abdominal surgery'.

As her children would have been in school when she arrived back, it is likely they would only have seen her for the first time when they returned to Adelaide Cottage later in the afternoon from Lambrook School, a ten-minute drive away.

It will almost certainly be the longest period the Princess has been away from them.

William and Kate have both prioritised their children over everything, arranging engagements so at least one is able to do the school run where possible.

They have also ensured that foreign tours are shorter to allow them to be home at weekends, the only exception being their 2022 trip to the Caribbean.

It is understood that Prince William, who had cleared his diary to be by his wife's side throughout, was at the hospital when she was discharged and is likely to have driven her home.

In a statement yesterday, a Kensington Palace spokesman said: 'The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery. She is making good progress.

'The Prince and Princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided.

'The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received.'

Kings' cancer diagnosis will mean Prince William will shoulder more responsibility than ever without Kate Middleton by his side

The 75-year-old monarch left the London Clinic last Monday

A shocked globe has rallied around King Charles tonight after he revealed that he is battling cancer and is stepping back from public duties during his treatment.

The 75-year-old monarch has said he hopes that his diagnosis 'may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.'

With Prince Harry set to board a plane back to Britain to be with his father as early as tonight and Prince William to take on some of the King's duties as the Princess of Wales recovers from abdominal surgery, world statesmen and religious leaders sent their love and support to the King and the Royal Family at this difficult time.

And as crowds gathered outside Buckingham Palace to send best wishes to His Majesty, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak declared: 'Wishing His Majesty a full and speedy recovery. I have no doubt he'll be back to full strength in no time and I know the whole country will be wishing him well.'

US President Joe Biden said tonight that he is 'concerned' about the King and plans to call him later. He told reporters: 'I'm concerned about him. Just heard about his diagnosis. I'll be talking to him, God willing'.

He later tweeted: 'Navigating a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship takes hope and absolute courage. Jill and I join the people of the United Kingdom in praying that His Majesty experiences a swift and full recovery'.

Former President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social network that the king was 'a wonderful man' and that 'we all pray that he has a fast and full recovery'.

Cardinal Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, said: 'I am saddened to learn that King Charles is now facing a time of treatment for cancer. On behalf of the entire Catholic Community in England and Wales, I offer His Majesty our warmest wishes and assurance of steadfast prayers for his full and speedy recovery. God bless the King'.

Chief Rabbi, Sir Ephraim Mirvis, said: 'I am saddened to have heard about His Majesty The King's diagnosis. I know that the Jewish communities of Great Britain and the Commonwealth will join me in wishing him a Refuah Sheleima - a complete and swift recovery'.

The King is understood to have personally informed his sons Prince William and Prince Harry about his condition.

The Duke of Sussex will travel to the UK to see him in the coming days, a source close to Harry said. It is not yet clear if Meghan, Archie and Lilibet will head to the UK but there are claims in the US that they will remain in Montecito.
