A plane's tyres burst into flames following a botched landing in the UK on Thursday night.

The cargo carrier landed at East Midlands Airport after taking off from Leipzig in Germany earlier in the evening.

Dramatic images show the Kalitta Air Boeing 747's wheels alight after slamming down on the tarmac.

According to a witness at the scene, the plane is believed to have 'ingested something' as it made its approach in Derby.

The witness, who shared the pictures with Sky Scan World, said that along with the dramatic flames, there was also a loud bang as the giant aircraft touched down.

It is not believed that anyone was injured in the incident, The Sun reported.

The event follows another earlier in the week at Teesside Airport, which was forced to shut temporarily after an 'incident' involving a plane led to three passengers being rushed to hospital.

A pilot and two passengers who were onboard a light aircraft were taken to hospital after it is believed to have struck issues during takeoff.

A witness said they heard an engine splutter then saw a plane banking sharply mid-air before it dropped to the ground with a 'thud'.

One of the trio had to be airlifted to hospital from the airport with serious injuries, as the airfield was shut 'indefinitely'.

The emergency sparked flight delays, with other services diverted to land in Newcastle.

Rob Cherrie, a commander from the Fire service at the scene, told Teesside Live he believed the incident took place during takeoff.
