Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic had some choice words for Chael Sonnen
Former Pride star and current UFC heavyweight Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic has been on the butt end of a ton of Chael Sonnen’s jokes for a while now, but has chosen not to retaliate.
This is until now.
Cro Cop did an interview with a Croatian website, and Middle Easy took the time to get a translation off of the Sherdog forums.
Long story short, the kickboxing specialist absolutely goes off on Sonnen.
"I never liked to say any trash talk about anyone and I never go low on that level,” Filipovic began.
Cro Cop indicated that he was vaguely familiar with Sonnen’s trash talking antics, and wondered if he was the only one who wasn’t laughing.
“When I was on UFC event last time I talked to some high ranked UFC official asking about this guy (Sonnen) and saying: is he really crazy or just hungry for shameless promotion? The guy at UFC told me: He's both. So that says it all,” Cro Cop recalled.
Clearly fed up with the Uncle Chael’s taunts, Cro Cop began to rip into the always controversial middleweight.
“I'm not angry or anything at Sonnen, but I will say one thing, I hope nobody gets offended, I don’t wanna sound disgusting and I am certainly not fan of any anthropologic theories, but you can see on that guy's face that he is limited and stupid and his IQ is not higher than the size of the shoes he's wearing,” Filipovic harshly remarked.
Nevertheless, the former Pride open weight champion was just getting started.
“His way of communication, his idiotic talks and mockery about legends such as Minotauro, Fedor, Wanderlei Silva and me, the people whose fame he will NEVER reach. I can't be mad at him because he doesn't understand some things, like a little child.”
Filipovic finished the thought by saying, “To be angry at him would be equal for me being angry at my little son who does funky things around the house all the time.”
Anyone who thought Filipovic would forget about Sonnen’s comments that Pride matches were rigged similar to that of the WWE was sadly mistaken.
As expected, Cro Cop took those remarks a bit personally. “Saying that fights in Japan were fixed and that me along with other guys like Silva, Minotauro etc. did not win those fights legitimately is an ultimate and absurd nonsense,” he said.
“I broke people s bones, tore muscles, ribs, faces, inflicted some serious and heavy damages to my opponents etc...I got hurt myself too from serious attacks...”
Cro Cop closed this thought by saying “that is far far away from any fix and it just sounds incredible how this guy that cannot do anything for himself other than babble cannot do the job in the ring and get attention with his fights, not with his trash talk."
Just as he has done in so many fights in his 10 year career, Filipovic was clearly looking for blood with this retaliation.
So, is there any chance Cro Cop takes anything that Sonnen says at face value?
"It is like saying that antelopes feed on tigers and not vice versa. That is the level of absurd that this guy brings. It doesn't make any sense, that is seriously crazy stuff that this guy is talking.”
Well, that answers that. After Cro Cop then talked about how Sonnen promotes with his mouth since he cannot promote with his fighting ability, he added:
“He graduated with a degree in bullsh******. So he is not an ordinary idiot, he is an idiot that has diploma in bullsh******.”
Filipovic wanted to close by addressing Sonnen repeatedly calling him out for a meeting in the cage someday.
“This is democracy, any idiot can say whatever they want. I just wish if he had 20 kilos more (40+ pounds more), I would kick his ass so hard that the steam would be blowing out of his rude ass.”
Sounds like the Croatian kickboxer is more than welcome to the idea of fighting Sonnen, but like most of us, just does not find it feasible given that he is two weight classes above where Sonnen normally competes.
In a move about as surprising as the sun coming up in the morning, Sonnen almost immediately responded to the interview via Twitter.
Sonnen kept is short and sweet when he tweeted: “Mirko, ol' buddy! Strong words from someone who's been carried out more often than Chinese food!”
Will Cro Cop respond again, or does he feel that he has proved his point? Either way, a very interesting chapter in the ongoing feud between Mirko Filipovic and Chael Sonnen.
