Jimmy 'Superfly' Snuka Arrested: Latest Details, Reaction and More

By Bleachers. 3 Sep, 2015

WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka is facing charges of third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter stemming from the 1983 death of his girlfriend, Nancy Argentino.

According to Manuel Gamiz Jr. of the Morning Call, Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin reopened the case following an investigative report the Morning Call published in 2013 that contained a previously unseen autopsy from Argentino's death. The autopsy called it a homicide:

An autopsy determined she died of traumatic brain injuries and she suffered more than two dozen cuts and bruises -- a possible sign of "mate abuse" -- on her head, ear, chin, arms, hands, back, buttocks, legs and feet.

The autopsy also determined her injuries were consistent with being hit with a stationary object. In an autopsy report, forensic pathologist Isidore Mihalakis wrote that the case should be investigated as a homicide until proven otherwise.

On Wednesday, WWE.com removed Snuka's profile from its site and released the following statement, per WrestlingInc.com's Raj Giri: "Jimmy Snuka's non-wrestling 'legends' contract has been suspended and we are currently removing his images from our media platforms pending the outcome of this case."

Gamiz's report noted Martin called on a grand jury to reinvestigate the case after it went cold in June 1983, though Argentino's family "won a $500,000 wrongful death case against Snuka by default" that he never paid after claiming "he was broke and couldn't afford a legal defense."

A portion from Snuka's 2012 autobiography, also included in Gamiz's report, touched on the death of Argentino: "Many terrible things have been written about me hurting Nancy and being responsible for her death, but they are not true," Snuka wrote. "This has been very hard on me and very hard on my family. To this day, I get nasty notes and threats. It hurts. I never hit Nancy or threatened her."

The 72-year-old has stomach cancer, which his wife, Carole Snuka, revealed during an August interview with 1Wrestling.com's Bill Apter (h/t Allison Takeda of US Weekly).

Snuka last appeared on WWE television in November 2010 during an episode of Raw.
