Why Khan Isn't Getting Floyd Fight

Khan Not Getting Mayweather Fight Due to His “Yapping,” says Pugmire

Boxing 24, July 27th, 2015

By Scott Gilfoid:

Well, it looks like Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) has been passed over by Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) once again for a big money fight.

According to Lance Pugmire’s source, Khan won’t be getting the fight against Mayweather Jr. due to Khan’s constant “yapping” about him. I had a feeling it was going to go this way for Khan.

If he’d just kept his trap shut, and waiting patiently for the Mayweather fight then maybe he’d be the guy that is getting the fight against him on September 12th, but Khan couldn’t stop flapping his gums 24/7 about Mayweather and now he’s not getting that cash out payday fight.

Now if Khan maybe have done some groveling like a good one, then maybe he’d be already signed for the fight. But Khan was yakking his head off like he already had the fight instead of someone who was trying to get an audience with the king of boxing.

“Told by official that Amir ‘King’ Khan is out of consideration to fight Floyd Mayweather next,” LA Times writer Lance Pugmire said on his Twitter. “Told the reason that Amir ‘King’ Khan is out is because of his mouth. He was told to zip it and kept yapping negatively about Floyd Mayweather.”

Well, there it is. Khan isn’t getting the fight because he’s been talking too much. Talk about your painful lessons. I wonder who’s the one who told khan to “zip it.”? Was it Khan’s adviser Al Haymon who told Khan to clam up or was someone else in the upper management?

Whatever the case, I guess it doesn’t matter now. Khan should have gotten a clue and stopped whining for the Mayweather fight, because it looked really bad in the eyes of a lot of boxing fans. They saw it as a case of Khan begging for the fight with Mayweather, but instead of begging in a good way by smothering Mayweather’s backside with compliments night and day, Khan was doing a lot of trash talking about how Mayweather was scared of him, and how he had the style to beat him. It would have been okay if Khan casually mentioned how he felt he was a better fighter than Mayweather once, but man, he was blabbing his head off night and day for anyone who was willing to listen and it just came off badly.

“For those asking Keith Thurman’s hand injury against [Luis] Colazzo prevents him from fighting Sept. 12 and Showtime Shawn Porter not in mix,” Pugmire said.

I guess Khan isn’t the only one who is getting passed over for the Mayweather fight. It looks like WBA welterweight champion Keith “One Time” Thurman and former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter have been passed up as well. I mean, I can totally understand why Thurman isn’t getting the fight. All that awful looking running he did in his recent fights against Collazo and Leonard Bundu was just so hard to look at.

After the Collazo fight, I figured that Thurman lost any chance he ever had of fighting Mayweather. But then when Thurman chose to turn down Mayweather’s invitation to fight Errol Spence Jr. on his undercard on September 12th, I think sealed any chance of Thurman getting a fight against Mayweather in the future beyond September.
