The UFC 132 Fight Card and 10 Final Million-Dollar Predictions from Head to Toe

Before his WEC 53 title defense against Scott "Young Guns" Jorgensen, the only time that Dominick Cruz's name was used in the same sentence as "The California Kid" Urijah Faber's name was when WEC and MMA fans were recapping the three years Faber spent atop the WEC featherweight mountain.

Ever since the unanimous-decision win over Jorgensen, however, it seems like we can no longer talk about the 17-1 Arizona native without mentioning the fighting pride of Sacramento and vice versa.

The two have talked trash about each other for the longest time, but come July 2nd, the talking will be over, and the only talking they will be doing is with their respective fighting abilities.

At the end of this 25-minute "conversation," we will either see Cruz avenge the only loss of his career, or we will welcome the resurgence and resurrection of "The Urijah Faber Era" in MMA.

Co-headlining the Independence Day weekend card in Las Vegas is the fight MMA fans hoped to get at UFC 125, as Chris "The Crippler" Leben gets his bout against Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva.

However, the iron-jawed Leben will have to erase the memory of his UFC 125 loss to Brian Stann, rather than capitalize on a win, when this dream fight with the Muay Thai Mutilation Machine know as "The Axe Murderer" happens at long last.

Rounding out the card are a light heavyweight clash between Ryan Bader and Tito Ortiz, as well as a immortal ground-game showcase between "The Natural-Born Killer" Carlos Condit and "The Stun Gun" Dong Hyun Kim, and a "dark-horse" eliminator at 155 pounds between Dennis Siver and TUF 5 veteran Matt Wiman.

From top to bottom, this one card has all the making of the Fight Card of the Year, let alone Fight Card of the Summer, and it comes to you live this Saturday on pay-per-view!

Anthony Njokuani Will Knock Andre Winner out with a First-Round Head Kick

It's like I said the last time: Anthony Njokuani is not as polarizing as Urijah Faber, Donald Cerrone or even Anthony Pettis, but The African Assassin's style of fighting—all Muay Thai—has made Njokuani a popular name to watch in the WEC and now the UFC.
How polarizing has "The Art of Eight Limbs" made Nojokuani?
It's only made him polarizing and memorable enough to where every MMA fan and their moms know that Njokuani has finished eight people with his Muay Thai and gone to the judges five times, with all five decisions being unanimous-decision wins, and his UFC 128 loss to Edson Barboza is the only time that Njokuani has lost on the scorecards.
That, and he's never submitted anyone in MMA.
One thing he has done, which is the key thing to take home here, is that he's proven himself to be more of a diverse striker than Andre Winner, who likely needs a victory to save himself from the chopping block.
Winner can throw whatever punches that he wishes to throw at Njokuani in his attempt to finish off the former WEC lightweight, but it will be all for naught.
It will end early, thanks to three things:
Firstly, Njokuani's reach will come into play as he works his jab and finds opportunities to effectively counter anything Winner tries to get off from the inside.
Secondly, the punishing leg kicks of Njokuani will slow Winner down and put Winner in a position where he will be hesitant to throw anything of real significance at Njokuani.
He will soon be staggered by the leg kicks of Njokuani, and two especially brutalizing leg kicks, which lead to the final stage of Winner's demise.
Once Winner stumbles over himself and winds up against the cage, Njokuani will land a left hook, followed by a straight right punch that breaks Winner's nose, and the nail in the coffin will be a lightning-fast right head kick that leaves Winner unconscious.

Brad Tavares Loses the Decision, buts Aaron Simpson Loses the Fight

After much thought and consideration (and an honest bias towards "The Minority Report"), I've come to the conclusion that as good of a wrestler as Aaron "A-Train" Simpson is, he will have a tough time with Brad Tavares.

Sure, he'll probably land a few more effective shots in a round and look like the more dominating fighter in all aspects of the fight for five minutes, but for the other 10 minutes, Simpson will not look very effective at all.

Brad Tavares will implement his stand-up game, which I feel is superior to Simpson's own stand-up, and he'll do a good job keeping the fight off the ground.

Even if the fight does go to the ground, Simpson will not be as effective as Tavares will prove to be, as he will show a great ground game from off his back and come close to submitting Simpson a few times while working from his back.

However, the shameful adage of "being on top means being dominant" will kick in, and regardless of how dominant Simpson actually is, he will walk out with the unanimous-decision victory.

The most Dana White will likely say is that the judges didn't get it right, but I doubt this will be as bad as Michihiro Omigawa's bout with Darren Elkins.

It will be a shaky decision and it will be obvious he won two of the three rounds overall, but Brad Tavares will not get the same treatment as Omigawa or Evan Dunham.

Brian Bowles Will Knock Takeya Mizugaki out with a D'arce Choke from Side Mount

Last time I talked about this fight, I said that Bowles was going to sink in a mounted guillotine choke on Mizugaki in Round 2, but after much thought, I have to revise the call.
A simple guillotine choke may work, but if we do see it, we will likely see it in Urijah Faber's bout with Dominick Cruz.
As for Bowles, he may try something a little bit less expected—namely, a D'Arce Choke from the side mount after a takedown and a total of 13 short elbows in succession.
After the 13th elbow, he'll maintain control of the right elbow of Mizugaki, get in position to sink in the choke and, after a struggle from Mizugaki (whose struggle will actually wind up helping the choke), Bowles will lock it up and sink in the choke to where the referee will have to check Mizugaki's arm.
Mizugaki will not respond, and soon after he's passed out, Bowles will find himself another win inside the Octagon.

George Sotiropulos Will "Vaporize" His Way past Rafael Dos Anjos

George Sotiropoulos was widely seen as one of the UFC's top five lightweights before a shocking unanimous-decision loss to Dennis Siver at UFC 127, and let's face facts: You had to be either a huge Dennis Siver fan or a huge George Sotiropoulos detractor to think that the fight was going to go the way it did.
Now instead of a potential bout with a Jim Miller or a Donald Cerrone, he gets a Spike TV Prelim spot opposite Rafael Dos Anjos, who replaces Evan Dunham.
Both guys are phenomenal jiu-jitsokas, with Sotiropoulos taking some of his talents to Eddie Bravo's 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, and we've seen in certain bouts earlier this year just how effective 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu can be.
Unfortunately for fans, Sotiropoulos will not pull MMA's next win by Twister, but an Eddie Bravo submission will make its way into the Octagon.
Once he gets in Dos Anjos' half-guard, he'll set in motion the events that will lead to the Vaporizer.

KO of the Night: Melvin Guillard (Body Knee-Body Hook-Uppercut on Shane Roller)

Last time I talked about this fight, I thought Shane Roller might actually knock Melvin Guillard out and he would get KO of The Night.
Weeks later, I'm going to have to revise that for two reasons:
1. I picked Guillard to lose against Evan Dunham and Jeremy Stephens.
2. Roller was an on-the-spot pick for the fight because I figured everyone was picking Guillard to win.
Truthfully, Guillard beating Roller is not a shocker at all, but the way he finishes him COULD be a shocker.
The way I figure this, three weeks later, it will start after Roller gets tagged with a straight right from Guillard and backpedals towards the cage wall.
There, Guillard will come forward, sensing Roller is hurt and land a big knee to the exposed midsection of Roller, followed by an organ-scrambling left body hook and exclamation-pointed by a monstrous right uppercut.
Roller will be out after the knee to the body, but he will somehow manage to hang on before Guillard's fists send him to his doom.

Dennis Siver Will Spinning Back Kick His Way Towards Donald Cerrone

Only two of Dennis Siver's five T/KO wins can be attributed to his spinning back kick, but that doesn't erase the fact that he has a mean spinning back kick.
As a matter of fact, it's become a stapled truth of the lightweight division that of all the UFC's 155-pound talent, Siver is their most dangerous kickboxer, making him an elite fighter to watch out for in the stand-up realm of MMA.
Matt Wiman is likely a more well-rounded fighter than Siver, but it's hard to say that there's one specific area of the game that Wiman excels at in comparison to Siver.
He's good at takedowns and striking, as well as submissions, but he's no master when it comes to all of them, and that will be a problem if he cannot keep the fight on the ground.
Anticipate Siver throwing and landing yet another spinning back kick on Wiman, dropping him and landing with such authority that he cannot recuperate from the kick.
After that, Donald Cerrone should come next after a wicked armbar ends Paul Taylor's night when the two collide at UFC on Versus 5: Hardy vs. Lytle.

Carlos Condit Will Gogoplata His Way toward the UFC Welterweight Belt

Carlos Condit vs. Dong Hyun Kim promises to be one of the night's most interesting ground battles, with Condit's BJJ against Kim's Judo.
Condit's shown some good ground-and-pound and some serious knockout power in his outings with Rory MacDonald and Dan Hardy, while Kim has dominated opponents such as Amir Sadollah, Matt Brown and Nate Diaz in his past few outings.
Kim's style should be trouble for most opponents, but stylistically, his smothering top game falls into Condit's notoriously lethal ground game, which is effective off his back as well as from the top.
Before the end of the second round, Kim will take the fight to the ground and attempt to smother Condit long enough to finish with some ground-and-pound, but he will get caught in an attempt at a triangle choke.
Condit will not get the triangle in, but he will have a good amount of wrist control and he will be able to drape his right shinbone across Kim's neck as the Korean tries to slip his arm out without success.
After getting his shinbone across Kim's arm, he'll pull in the head of Kim and force the tap from the Korean, who will remain a prospect but will have to be sent back to the drawing board after suffering a loss by Gogoplata to Condit, who will await the winner of Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz.

Tito Ortiz Will End His Career by Taking Ryan Bader's Overhand Right to His Chin

Tito Ortiz—if you watch the Ultimate Fighting Championship, you either love watching Tito Ortiz or you love watching Tito Ortiz get his comeuppance on what has been a regular basis as of late.
Either way, if you're watching UFC 132 on Saturday, chances are you're partially watching in some capacity because of Ortiz
Some of you may want Ortiz to beat Ryan Bader while others of you believe Bader will unsurprisingly lay Ortiz out.
You may officially count me among those who feels that Ortiz will be knocked out.
Originally I had thought that Tito was going to hang on and, at the worst, lose one round 10-8 due to a knockdown, but the more I analyze the fight, the more convinced I am that a decision is what Bader wants us to think will be the outcome.
Bader wants us, the fans, to look at this fight and expect that it'll be the type of anti-climatic 15-minute bout that we always expect out of wrestlers, knowing full well that we would not expect a finish in this fight.
I would expect a decision, Bader, if you hadn't shown a mean overhand right to Vinny Magalhaes.
Tito will feel the same fate after a few short lefts and rights to the body of Ortiz, as well as a grazing left hook from Bader.
Once the overhand right lands, however, it's bye-bye Tito, welcome back Bader and hello retirement.

Wanderlei Silva Will Win the Fight of the Decade by Split Decision

Chris Leben fondly recalls going to Japanese toy stores and the like where the owners kept a section of bootlegged PRIDE DVDs, and that's how he got put onto Wanderlei Silva.
Years after the era of bootlegged PRIDE DVDs and old PRIDE tapes, Leben gets to stare across the cage from the oxygenated figure this Saturday in the one fight of the summer guaranteed to not disappoint.
You don't even need to be a Chris Leben fan to admire his style or to know that this fight will be a hurricane of electricity all throughout—all you need to do is watch his early fights in the UFC.
He could have pulled guard and made for some of the most stale fights in the UFC, but he abandoned smarts and opted to turn his roller-coaster career into a highlight reel for the ages—and while it's cost him a few times, it's also led to some insane finishes.
Wanderlei Silva knows about insane finishes, because he's responsible for some of MMA's craziest knockouts and his Muay Thai is arguably the most legendary in MMA history.
Both guys have alternated between saying they'll try for KO of the Night and saying that this one will at the very least be Fight of the Night.
It will, and it will look like it should be a split draw, but something inside me says whatever Wanderlei lands with will be effective enough to steal him a split decision.
Wanderlei and Leben will look worse than either man has ever looked after a long 15-minute battle, but at the end of the bout, we will have a winner by split decision and it will be The Axe Murderer.
Expect Leben to briefly show his jiu-jitsu and keep his guard tight enough for the ref to stand up the fight, but don't get too comfy with thinking Leben will submit Wanderlei.
Knowing Leben, he'll get the chance, but he'll sacrifice it if it means that this co-headliner is Fight of the Decade.

Dominick Cruz Will Even the Score, and We'll All Beg for a Rubber Fight

Even if it meant saving MMA , Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber could not possibly find it in themselves to like one another.
Ever since Cruz signed his name over Faber's face at a 2007 signing (and subsequently paid for it at WEC 26), the heat has been on between the two, with Cruz beating Faber's Team Alpha Male teammate Joseph Benavidez twice as well as another close training partner of Faber's in Scott Jorgensen.
The trail has led to a rematch with Faber in a bout that is very easy for one to break down, as it once again breaks down to Faber's wrestling and grappling against Cruz's striking with cardio being the X-factor in this bout.
Expect this one to be a close fight that may look a little bit like Faber's fight at times, but expect the champ to pull a few show-stealing moves that ultimately help nab him some of the closer rounds from Faber.
Two judges will give at least one round to Faber, while one judge will look at this fight and ultimately give Cruz all five rounds despite Faber doing well enough to take at least one or two rounds.
Once the unanimous decision is announced and Cruz retains his belt, the cries will commence for a final bout between The Dominator and The California Kid—the score will be evened on Saturday, but it will be far from settled.

Weeks later, I'm going to have to revise that for two reasons: 1. I picked Guillard to lose against Evan Dunham and Jeremy Stephens. 2. Roller was an on-the-spot pick for the fight because I figured everyone was picking Guillard to win. Truthfully, Guillard beating Roller is not a shocker at all, but the way he finishes him COULD be a shocker. The way I figure this, three weeks later, it will start after Roller gets tagged with a straight right from Guillard and backpedals towards the cage wall. There, Guillard will come forward, sensing Roller is hurt and land a big knee to the exposed midsection of Roller, followed by an organ-scrambling left body hook and exclamation-pointed by a monstrous right uppercut. Condit's shown some good ground-and-pound and some serious knockout power in his outings with Rory MacDonald and Dan Hardy, while Kim has dominated opponents such as Amir Sadollah, Matt Brown and Nate Diaz in his past few outings. Kim's style should be trouble for most opponents, but stylistically, his smothering top game falls into Condit's notoriously lethal ground game, which is effective off his back as well as from the top. Before the end of the second round, Kim will take the fight to the ground and attempt to smother Condit long enough to finish with some ground-and-pound, but he will get caught in an attempt at a triangle choke. Condit will not get the triangle in, but he will have a good amount of wrist control and he will be able to drape his right shinbone across Kim's neck as the Korean tries to slip his arm out without success. Either way, if you're watching UFC 132 on Saturday, chances are you're partially watching in some capacity because of Ortiz Some of you may want Ortiz to beat Ryan Bader while others of you believe Bader will unsurprisingly lay Ortiz out. You may officially count me among those who feels that Ortiz will be knocked out. Originally I had thought that Tito was going to hang on and, at the worst, lose one round 10-8 due to a knockdown, but the more I analyze the fight, the more convinced I am that a decision is what Bader wants us to think will be the outcome. Bader wants us, the fans, to look at this fight and expect that it'll be the type of anti-climatic 15-minute bout that we always expect out of wrestlers, knowing full well that we would not expect a finish in this fight. I would expect a decision, Bader, if you hadn't shown a mean overhand right to Vinny Magalhaes. Tito will feel the same fate after a few short lefts and rights to the body of Ortiz, as well as a grazing left hook from Bader. Years after the era of bootlegged PRIDE DVDs and old PRIDE tapes, Leben gets to stare across the cage from the oxygenated figure this Saturday in the one fight of the summer guaranteed to not disappoint. You don't even need to be a Chris Leben fan to admire his style or to know that this fight will be a hurricane of electricity all throughout—all you need to do is watch his early fights in the UFC. He could have pulled guard and made for some of the most stale fights in the UFC, but he abandoned smarts and opted to turn his roller-coaster career into a highlight reel for the ages—and while it's cost him a few times, it's also led to some insane finishes. Wanderlei Silva knows about insane finishes, because he's responsible for some of MMA's craziest knockouts and his Muay Thai is arguably the most legendary in MMA history. Both guys have alternated between saying they'll try for KO of the Night and saying that this one will at the very least be Fight of the Night. It will, and it will look like it should be a split draw, but something inside me says whatever Wanderlei lands with will be effective enough to steal him a split decision. Wanderlei and Leben will look worse than either man has ever looked after a long 15-minute battle, but at the end of the bout, we will have a winner by split decision and it will be The Axe Murderer. Expect Leben to briefly show his jiu-jitsu and keep his guard tight enough for the ref to stand up the fight, but don't get too comfy with thinking Leben will submit Wanderlei. Ever since Cruz signed his name over Faber's face at a 2007 signing (and subsequently paid for it at WEC 26), the heat has been on between the two, with Cruz beating Faber's Team Alpha Male teammate Joseph Benavidez twice as well as another close training partner of Faber's in Scott Jorgensen. The trail has led to a rematch with Faber in a bout that is very easy for one to break down, as it once again breaks down to Faber's wrestling and grappling against Cruz's striking with cardio being the X-factor in this bout. Expect this one to be a close fight that may look a little bit like Faber's fight at times, but expect the champ to pull a few show-stealing moves that ultimately help nab him some of the closer rounds from Faber. Two judges will give at least one round to Faber, while one judge will look at this fight and ultimately give Cruz all five rounds despite Faber doing well enough to take at least one or two rounds.
