UFC on Versus 4: 7 Reasons You Must Watch This Event

The UFC's fourth event on the Versus network—aptly called UFC on Versus 4 by fans or "UFC Live: Marquardt vs. Story" by the UFC—is set to take place this Sunday, June 26, 2011.
Many may scoff at the free cards and think they are low quality or otherwise not worth watching—especially on a Sunday night when people have to be up for work early the next morning!
However, staying up a little bit later for this card will be totally worth it. Here are the seven reasons why you must stay up to catch this event.

The Card Is Free and over Half of It Is on Facebook

For those of you who are stingy, the UFC periodically has you covered. This event promises some very intriguing matchups without the pay-per-view price tag.
In addition to this, even if you don't have Versus you can still watch more than half of the card for free on Facebook.
Given these facts, there is no reason you shouldn't watch at least a couple of the preliminaries before going to sleep before the rat race begins anew on Monday.

The Return of Charles Oliveira

Charles Oliveira has some of the slickest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the lightweight division and was being touted as a future contender before his loss to Jim Miller at UFC 124.
Nevertheless, Oliveira is still an extremely skilled and well-rounded competitor with a 14-1 record that has 13 finishes (six by (T)KO and seven by submission).
He is set to take on Nik Lentz, whose grinding style may not be perfected enough to avoid the submissions of Oliveira.
The Oliveira-Lentz fight should be a grappling clinic so fans should tune in and they have no excuse not to—it's free on Facebook and is only the third fight of the night.

The Return of Joe Lauzon

Joe Lauzon was once considered one of the premier contenders at lightweight in the UFC.
However, his career has somewhat plateaued now; he is coming off of a loss and is 2-2 in his last four.
Lauzon has won the "fight of the night" accolade three times in his UFC career and he may win yet another on Sunday against his opponent Kurt Warburton, making this fight another that is simply a must-watch.

Three Fighters Are Close To Getting the Axe

Tyson Griffin, Joe Stevenson and Matt Brown have all dropped three fights in a row. They will therefore be fighting for their UFC lives come Sunday night.
Tyson Griffin and Joe Stevenson have eight "fight of the night" honors between the two of them. When their naturally exciting fighting styles are combined with the fact that they will be fighting harder than ever before, fireworks are practically guaranteed to ensue.
In addition, Griffin's and Stevenson's opponents, Manvel (or Manny) Gamburyan and Javier Vasquez, are both skilled competitors who bring the right to their opponents. These fights will make the Facebook prelims the most exciting in recent memory.

Matt Mitrione's Ever-Growing Skills Will Be on Display

Matt Mitrione has grown leaps and bounds as a mixed martial artist since his stint in the 10th season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series.
The former football player has gone 4-0 in his career with wins over Marcus Jones, Kimbo Slice, Tim Hague and Joey Beltran. Even though some of these opponents are lackluster, Mitrione has shown an increasing amount of polish and skill in his overall MMA game (specifically in regards to striking).
UFC on Versus 4 is a must-watch because Mitrione will again prove whether or not he has just been beating up on cans or is becoming a skilled fighter that will soon be ready to contend with the higher-ups in the heavyweight division.

Cheick Kongo vs. Pat Barry May Well Be a Stand-Up "War"

Pat Barry and Cheick Kongo are two of the most noted strikers (or cynics would say one-dimensional strikers) in the UFC Heavyweight Division.
Both men bring powerful strikes and crisp technique to the table in this match. It will be interesting and exciting to see the interplay of the two men. Don't blink because this must-watch fight could end in one quick punch, kick, knee or elbow from either man.

The Fate of Nate "The Great" Will Be Decided

Nate "The Great" Marquardt has been with the UFC for six years now. His career has seen many ups and downs since then but at the age of 32, the time that the former King of Pancrase has left is beginning to run out.
Marquardt is attempting to rejuvenate his career by dropping down to welterweight. This move may prove successful should he pass his first test at 170 pounds, the up-and-coming Rick Story.
Should Marquardt beat Story, his position as an elite fighter will again be restored. But should he lose, he will likely go down in UFC history as the organization's most famous gatekeeper.
Thus, UFC on Versus 4 is a must-watch because the very fate of Nate Marquardt and his reputation will be at stake.
