Daily Mail UK, 2 Feb 2015

Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have beaten the Seattle Seahawks in a nail-biting game to secure a historic fourth Super Bowl win with the New England Patriots.
The Patriots clinched the 28-24 victory when rookie Malcolm Butler intercepted a pass from Seattle's Russell Wilson at the New England end zone in the final seconds of the game.
Speaking after Sunday's highly-anticipated game, Butler told reporters: 'I just had a vision that I was going to make a big play and it came true.'
Meanwhile, the team's owner, Robert Kraft, 73, joined at the game, by his 34-year-old girlfriend, Ricki Noel Lander, said he was proud of his team.
'I love our team, I'm proud of our guys and we're going to carry on and hopefully do well,' Kraft said as he headed over to congratulate his players.

The Patriots' win comes amid the deflate-gate scandal, which saw the team accused of deliberately under-inflating the footballs used in their AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts on January 18 this year.

But addressing the media about a more positive issue - the team's victory - on Sunday night, Belichick, who is the league's longest-tenured active head coach, said: 'We've got a great team, they played well again tonight. I'm so proud of all these players. I love these guys.'
Star quarterback Brady, who was named Super Bowl MVP for the third time following the Patriots' win, attributed the team's success to a 'lot of mental toughness', saying he and his teammates had 'never doubted each other' and had been prepared to face a 'great' rival.
Holding the Vince Lombardi Trophy aloft, an elated Brady thanked his family, friends and fans, saying: 'This is for you guys.' He was later pictured receiving a kiss from his wife, Gisele Bundchen, and son Jack, who watched the game alongside more than 100million people worldwide.
As the game came to a close, Brady, who threw a record four touchdowns, hit Julian Edelman for a three-yard touchdown that took their score to 28 against the Seahawks' 24. However, it was Butler's last-second interception that prevented the Seahawks from coming out victorious.

Indeed, the Seahawks' decision to throw the ball on the one-yard-line - which led to the rookie's game-ending interception against Russell Wilson - was immediately criticized by both furious fans and baffled sports hosts, with many deeming it a 'stupid' move that paved the way for the Patriots' victory.
Brady was pictured leaping for joy on the Patriots sideline following Butler's interception. 'It wasn't the way we drew it up,' said 37-year-old Brady, described by his teammate Edelmen after the game as 'the greatest quarterback on the planet'.

The Seahawks had previously come roaring back in the second half of the game after making the most of a second interception on Brady. As the second half got underway, wide receiver Doug Baldwin scored the team's third touchdown on the back of an easy pass from Russell Wilson.
It followed a field goal that had been brought alive by a 44-yard catch by wide receiver Chris Matthews, who had been working at Foot Locker when the Seahawks recruited him. Baldwin's touchdown also came seconds after Brady had tried - and failed - to force a pass to tight end Rob Gronkowski.
To Brady's dismay, Bobby Wager stepped in front of the throw and picked it off. After Baldwin's touchdown, the Seahawks were leading 24-14.

However, the Patriots refused to give up - with Danny Amendola scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter following a four-yarder by Brady. With minutes left in the game, the team trailed by just three points, with the score standing at 24-21. However, they then surged back into the lead.
With just seconds left to go in the game, the tension got to players on both sides and a brawl broke out. During the fight, punches were thrown by both teams. The Seahawks’ Bruce Irvin was later ejected from the game for instigating the fight, and the Patriots then went on to win.

The 49th Super Bowl was attended by numerous celebrities, including Mark Wahlberg, Britney Spears and her boyfriend, Charlie Ebersol, John Travolta, Will Ferrell, Kenny Chesney and Paul McCartney, as well as John Legend, who opened with a beautiful rendition of 'America The Beautiful'.
Legend was followed by Broadway star Idina Menzel, who performed the national anthem. During the half time show, Katy Perry entertained crowds with a 12-minute performance that saw her dance provocatively with rock star Lenny Kravitz and ride on the back of a silver mechanical tiger.

As the second quarter got underway, Brady, who was fighting for his legacy against the Seahawks, threw the game's first interception to Jeremy Lane.
Cornerback Lane was then tackled and fell to the ground hand-first. He was driven off the field by cart and replaced by Tharold Simon.
However, Brady quickly overcame the early interception to throw the game's first touchdown, caught by the team's wide receiver Brandon LaFell.
But minutes later, the Seahawks' Chris Matthews threw the ball to running back Marshawn Lynch, who bulldozed his way to a three-yard touchdown.
Shortly after, the Patriots soared into the lead again after Brady threw a high pass to Rob Gronkowski, who held onto the ball as he fell to the ground.
And then, Matthews equalized the score after scoring a daring touchdown against the Patriots in the final seconds of the first half to loud cheers.
It meant the team's were tying - with a score of 14-14 - at half-time. The Patriots, who went on to claim a further 14 points, saw their unbeaten season ruined in the 2007 Super Bowl by the Giants. They also fell to the Giants for the 2011 title.

Earlier in the day, Robert Kraft, the Patriots' owner, and his team were pictured arriving at the University of Phoenix Stadium following a week that has seen his organisation become the center of the media's attention. Kraft, 73, was accompanied by his 34-year-old girlfriend, Ricki Noel Lander.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks - led by quarterback Russel Wilson and cornerback Richard Sherman, whose long-term girlfriend, Ashley Moss, is nine months' pregnant - were seen walking off their team bus dressed in black suits, before heading out onto the field to warm up in football attire.
The highly-paid players joined thousands of football fans who descended on Phoenix for the big game amid tight security. A staggering 4,000 private security personnel have been deployed to the game, while almost 3,000 members of the city's police force are believed to be on duty.

The extravaganza was expected to draw a whopping 115 million viewers - or about one in three Americans - gathering at countless parties across the country. As of noon Sunday, the cheapest ticket on StubHub was $11,490 for a seat in the upper tier of the stadium, just shy of the halfway line.

On Sunday evening, just minutes before the game, Seahawks running back, Marshawn Lynch, was pictured warming up in a pair of Nike gold cleats, despite having been warned he could be banned from the game if he wore the $1,100 shoes, which go against the NFL's regulations.
Although Lynch - dubbed 'Beast Mode' by fans - made sure he took off the cleats in time for the game, he was seen sporting footwear with a golden underside in what many considered an act of the defiance against the league. He was also seen popping a few Skittles into his mouth before the game.

Another eye-catching sight was the sparkling football-themed outfit worn by Johnny Weir, who was joined by co-host Tara Lipinski

As early as Sunday morning, loyal followers of the Seattle Seahawks - looking to win back-to-back championships - and the Patriots had flocked to the stadium sporting football shirts, wacky hairstyles and bright face paint to attend fan fests and take in the atmosphere in the build-up to the big game.

Black Hawk helicopters and 'truck-sized' x-ray machines were drafted in as part of a huge operation at the University of Phoenix Stadium. They are believed to have transported from Tuscon, one of the country's hotspots for drug and immigrant smuggling.

For the duration of the event, the Federal Aviation Authority has imposed strict flight restrictions and a 'no drone zone' around the stadium, while Homeland Security has set up social media scanners to highlight online threats.

Deadly shootings in Paris and the recent arrest of suspects in Belgium, Greece and Germany have heightened fears of more attacks around the world, and social media accounts linked to Middle East militant groups have carried a number of threats to attack high-profile U.S. events.

Federal security officials have said U.S. agencies are unaware of any specific or credible terrorist threat against the Super Bowl. Johnson echoed that on Wednesday. At a news conference, NFL Chief Security Officer Jeffrey Miller said: 'Most items cannot be carried into the stadium.'

Only clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags measuring 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, or 1-gallon freezer bags, would be permitted, as well as small clutch bags 'approximately the size of a hand,' he said.
Coolers, backpacks, computer and camera bags, and all other kinds of luggage have been prohibited, as are bottles and beverages including alcohol, camcorders, food, fireworks, Frisbees and umbrellas, according to an NFL list.
Exceptions were made for medically necessary items, after an inspection at a specially designated stadium gate.

'While the level of security is high, there should only be a moderate inconvenience for our fans: a very small price to pay,' Miller said.
Debora Black, chief of the Glendale Police Department, said that while most people viewed the Super Bowl as an exciting finale to the football season, others saw the event as a target.
'We are confident that we are prepared to identify and protect against any threat,' Black said. 'While the world is focused on the (Phoenix-area) Valley for this week, we have been focused on this week for over a year.'

Super Bowl security officials acknowledge the NFL championship game represents a high profile target on a world stage but are unaware of any specific credible threats against Sunday's showcase.

Seattle won the prestigious title last year, and after a last-gasp overtime victory against Green Bay Packers 28-22, they advanced to their second consecutive Super Bowl.
New England Patriots made it by brushing aside Indianapolis Colts 45-7 in a game overshadowed by the ensuing Deflategate scandal.
This year's championship comes with the National Football League battling back from a season of turmoil, accused of complacency and even conspiracy in its handling of issues ranging from domestic violence to concussion dangers.

The latest controversy - accusations that the New England Patriots intentionally deflated footballs - has dominated news coverage in the days leading up to the game.
Some novice football fans tuned in mostly for the much-anticipated halftime show, which this year featured pop princess Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz.

Perry, known for her flamboyant costumes and hits like 'Firework,' 'California Gurls' and 'Dark Horse,' earlier hinted her performance could feature a surprise guest, but promised clean, family-friendly fun.
Past shows have been marred by infamous nipple-baring 'wardrobe malfunctions' or crude gestures that provoked ire from some of the massive television audience.

Over nachos, chili and beer, viewers will also see much-buzzed about commercials, some of the most expensive air time on the market, with this year's line-up featuring spots from Toyota, Budweiser and Victoria's Secret.
More than 70 advertisers paid a reported $4.5 million for 30 seconds of air time during Sunday's football classic.
