ROB DRAPER AT WEMBLEY:How fitting that it was Aaron Ramsey who finished off a pulsating, captivating 133rd FA Cup final. When he has been fit and available, he has done more than any man to lift Arsenal above mediocrity this season. At times in his short career, his promise seemed to be waning and yet this season he has transformed himself into a spell-binding player.

This grand old final has seen extraordinary starts in its illustrious history, but surely nothing to match this. A team, which has specialised in premature capitulations this season, imploded again under the gaze of the nation.
Within a stunning eight-minute spell, their chance to end that pernicious wait for silverware appeared to be disappearing before they had barely touched the ball.
Stephen Quinn delivered a fourth-minute corner to Tom Huddlestone at the back of the box. His tame shot posed no danger, yet no-one was marking James Chester who simply diverted the ball in from close range. Still, time to make amends. No need to panic.
Yet within four more minutes Arsenal were in disarray. Hull sensed the vulnerability. Quinn attacked down the left and crossed. When Alex Bruce, son of manager Steve, made an inelegant attempt to head it home the ball still almost beat Lukasz Fabianski and rebounded off a post. And there stood Hull captain Curtis Davies, who turned it home before setting off on a run that ended beneath a pile of celebrating team-mates.
On the touchline, Wenger and his assistant Steve Bould raged — whether at officials, their defence or the performance it was hard to say — but they looked impotent.
Authority and belief were absent. When Kieran Gibbs had to clear another Bruce header off the line, Arsenal looked lost and Hull looked capable of scoring at any moment.
It would require something extraordinary to recover.
Fortunately for Arsenal, they possess enough players to deliver in that department. When Cazorla lined up a free kick on 17 minutes 30 yards out, it was Arsenal’s first statement of intent. The angle and distance suggested that a much-needed reply was improbable but, with a powerful shot executed with exquisite technique, Cazorla sent the ball into the far top corner, despite Allan McGregor getting a touch. It bore echoes of Paul Gascoigne’s in the 1991 semi-final for Tottenham against Arsenal.
And it did the trick. the Gunners were stirred, their fans vociferous, thankful the team had awoken from a nightmarish slumber. Indeed, when Lukas Podolski raced down the right and crossed on 22 minutes, Mesut Ozil was a whisker away from an equaliser..
The rate of chances was unsustainable yet we were watching an absorbing battle.
In the second half, Hull slowed the game at every opportunity, seeking to frustrate; Arsenal attacked with increasing desperation, fearing that the trophy was slipping away.
Giroud protested vigorously on 58 minutes that he was held in the area by Huddlestone but to no avail. On came Sanogo on 61 minutes for Podolski. Laurent Koscielny wasted a good headed opportunity.
When Cazorla was then felled in the box by a clumsy challenge from Davies, Arsenal’s moment seemed about to arrive. Not so, as referee Lee Probert rejected the appeal..
Arsenal, though, would not be denied. When Giroud crossed on 71 minutes, Sanogo’s neat backheel hit the side-netting. Amid a tangle of legs the officials deemed it a corner, but Sanogo seemed to get the last touch. It was to be a decision of immense significance.
From the corner, Bacary Sagna rose and his deflected header fell kindly for Koscielny, a couple of yards in front of goal. Swivelling quickly the Frenchman turned the ball in, being felled in the process by McGregor and damaging a shin. As such, the celebrations were muted, but Koscielny recovered.
A winning goal beckoned on 80 minutes for Gibbs, Sanogo delivering a cross through a crowded area. It was the moment of a lifetime, six yards out, a sight of goal and a free shot to win the Cup, but Gibbs lifted it over.
And so to extra-time. When Ramsey’s chance came, he buried it to settle the argument.
