Formula One Test Driver De Villota Died as Consequence of Injuries from Duxford Crash, her Family Reveal

13 October 2013

Maria De Villota died as a consequence of her horror crash at Duxford Aerodrome last year, according to her family.

The Spanish racer, who lost her right eye and suffered serious facial injuries during her debut test for Formula One outfit Marussia last July, was found dead in a Spanish hotel room on Friday.

De Villota had appeared to make a remarkable recovery from the injuries she sustained in the life-threatening crash ahead of last year's British Grand Prix.

Horror crash: Maria De Villota collided with a lorry at the Duxford Aerodrome last year

But in a statement released on Saturday, her family have since been told that her death, which has stunned the F1 paddock, is linked to last year's accident at the Cambridgeshire airbase.

'Maria left us while she was sleeping, approximately at 6am, as a consequence of the neurological injuries that she suffered in July of 2012, according to what the forensic doctor has told us,' her sister Isabel said in a family statement.

'Maria is gone, but she has left us a very clear message of joy and hope, which is helping the family move on in these moments.'

The F1 paddock will hold a one-minute silence before Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix in memory of De Villota.

Drivers Pay Respects to Former Test Driver De Villota after Tragic Death in Seville

13 October 2013

Formula One drivers will hold a minute’s silence for Maria de Villota before Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix.
The 33-year-old Spaniard, a former test driver for the Marussia team, was found dead in a Seville hotel room on Friday morning. According to her family, she died as a result of the effects of the injuries she sustained in a horrific accident last year.
Reports suggest De Villota suffered a heart attack brought on by a brain haemorrhage and her family revealed they had been informed by doctors her death was directly linked to the accident at Duxford Aerodrome in July 2012.

Respects: Drivers and fans take a moment out to remember De Villota after she tragically passed away

.........

De Villota ploughed into the loading ramp of a team lorry, shattering her skull. Doctors were forced to remove her right eye.

A statement from the drivers’ union read: ‘All F1 drivers of the Grand Prix Drivers Association are very saddened to hear of the tragic death of our former member Maria de Villota.

‘Maria will be missed and always remembered by all of us.’

Unstoppable Vettel Makes it Nine Wins in 2013 but Alonso prevents title celebrations

By Daily Mail, 13 October 2013

Sebastian Vettel made it five wins out of five in Japan but the quartet of world titles will have to wait until India in two weeks’ time.
Fernando Alonso’s fourth place finish in Suzuka means Vettel’s celebrations remain on hold. But at least Vettel managed to put one over team-mate Mark Webber, even if the spectators were robbed of a late fight between the pair thanks to a stunning drive from Romain Grosjean in the Lotus.
Speaking after the race, Vettel said: 'I'm blown away by today's race.'

Red Bull: Sebastian Vettel held off team-mate Mark Webber to win in Japan

Unstoppable: Sebastian Vettel took his ninth race win of the season and his fifth in a row

Shining light: The crowds were still present as the day turned to night

Lap Classification

1) Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull)
2) Mark Webber (Red Bull)
3) Romain Grosjean (Lotus)
4) Fernando Alonso (Ferrari)
5) Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus)
6) Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber)
7) Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber)
8) Nico Rosberg (Mercedes)
9) Jenson Button (McLaren)
10) Felipe Massa (Ferrari)

'I had a very poor start, I clipped my front wing and Lewis had a puncture, but after that I looked after the tyres and had incredible pace, so overall fantastic. I'm so overwhelmed.
'I've won here four times now, which is incredible.
'As for the championship we have a good gap, so we'll still keep pushing. It looks good at this stage, but it's not over until it's over.'
Webber, in his final year in F1, knew he had a chance of claiming a victory.
'The race was pretty good, although I'd like one more step on the podium,' said Webber.
'Seb went longer in his first stint, and that made the difference, but I'm pretty happy with second. I got the best out of what I could.'

There's only one No 1: Vettel has been utterly dominant this season

King of the track: Vettel could equal Michael Schumacher's record for 13 wins in a season

Podium: Webber finished second with Lotus' Romain Grosjean in third

Sebastian Vettel: We had incredible pace

Vettel on Cloud Nine

After winning in Suzuka, Sebastian Vettel took his total wins for the season to nine. The record is held by Michael Schumacher, who won 13 in 2004.

Malaysian Grand Prix, March 24
Bahrain Grand Prix, April 21
Canadian Grand Prix, June 9
German Grand Prix, July 7
Belgian Grand Prix, August 25
Italian Grand Prix, September 8
Singapore Grand Prix, September 22
Korean Grand Prix, October 6
Japanese Grand Prix, October 13

Qualifying certainly threw up the potential for some start-line fireworks with Webber taking advantage of Vettel’s KERS problems to put his Red Bull on pole ahead of his team-mate.
There is no love lost between the pair, matters once again flaring up in Malaysia this year when Vettel ignored team orders not to pinch the win from Webber.
And with Webber retiring from Formula One at the end of the season he needed little motivation to try and eclipse Vettel despite the German having the chance to wrap up his fourth world title at Suzuka and with four races remaining.
To do that Vettel needed to win and have Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso finish outside the top eight. The Spaniard, who qualified down in eighth, could not rely on any help from team-mate Felipe Massa, shown the door at the Italian team to make room for the return of Kimi Raikkonen.
Massa, who qualified an impressive fifth, was in exactly the same boat as Webber in terms of looking after No 1.
Such rivalries were briefly forgot as the drivers gathered for a minute’s silence before the race to pay their respects to former Marussia test driver Maria de Villota who died suddenly on Friday morning.

Unstoppable: Sebastian Vettel took his ninth race win of the season and his fifth in a row

First corner: Caterham driver Giedo van der Garde collides with Marussia's Jules Bianchi

Debris: The Caterham went straight off the track as the Marussia lost much of the back of the car

Crash: Giedo van der Garde collides with Jules Bianchi

But once the red lights went out, the focus shifted firmly back the business of racing as hard as possible.
And while the Red Bull team-mates behaved themselves, it was the contact between Vettel and Lewis Hamilton that provided the drama as Romain Grosjean fired his Lotus up the inside from fourth on the grid to first by Turn One.
After getting away quicker than Vettel, Hamilton moved his Mercedes across the bows of the Red Bull and clipped its front wing. A right rear puncture was the outcome after tumbling through the field to 20th Hamilton was in the pits at the end of lap one for new tyres.
Meanwhile, further down the order, contact between the Caterham of Giedo van der Garde and the Marussia’s Jules Bianchi sent the pair spiralling into the gravel trap.
At least Hamilton was still in the race, but the puncture had caused aerodynamic damage at the rear of his car and Hamilton was soon reporting to his team that his Mercedes was all over the place.

Destruction: Van der Garde crashed straight into the tyre wall at the first corner

Unhurt: The marshals help him out of the car after the incident

At the front, Webber was told to drop back from Grosjean for fear of destroying his tyres. Such worries paled into insignificance compared to those of Hamilton who was forced to retire his Mercedes at the end of lap eight, such was the damage from the contact with Vettel.
Jenson Button was the first of the top ten starters to make a pit stop at the end of lap eight, having already dropped to 13th before returning to the race two places further back.
Webber and Massa were soon stopping for fresh rubber as Grosjean continued to maintain a healthy advantage before visiting the pits at the end of lap 12, promoting Vettel to the lead.
There was nothing smooth about Nico Rosberg’s stop, however, as he nearly collected the McLaren of Sergio Perez after being released in a manner which was soon attracting the attention of the stewards. A drive through penalty was the result for Rosberg on what was turning out to be a disastrous afternoon for Mercedes.
Finally Vettel made his first stop at the end of Lap 14, the reigning champion returning to the track in third behind Webber and Grosjean. Up into fourth place moved the only man yet to stop, Daniel Ricciardo, with Toro Rosso one of only two teams to start a driver on the harder prime tyre.

Ferrari: Felipe Massa leads his team-mate Fernando Alonso

Charge: Nico Rosberg was the only Mercedes to give a challenge after Hamilton retired early

A train of cars was soon build up behind Ricciardo, Alonso taking advantage of the traffic jam to pass Massa as the front three stretched their advantage. Nico Hulkenberg was the first to get by the Toro Rosso in his Sauber with a stunning pass of the daunting 130R corner, the two Ferrari’s eventually following suit.
Massa was then banging wheels with Esteban Gutierrez’s Sauber as they exited the hairpin as the more entertaining action continue unfold further down the field.
Strategy calls were being devised in the garages, although with Button looking like he was on a three-stopper a tardy second tyre change was hardly ideal – a problem which was to resurface during Sergio Perez’s second stop.
Webber was the first of the front three to break cover, making his second stop at the end of lap 25 for hard tyres as Vettel and Grosjean ploughed on, the leader in the Lotus holding his own against the Red Bull.
But on lap 39, Vettel was giving the instruction to apply the pressure to Grosjean. Lotus opted to bring their man in at the end of lap 29, Grosjean emerging behind Webber who was hoping a three-stop strategy was the way to go.

Rest in peace: Fans pay tribute to Spain's Maria De Villota who died earlier in this week

Still Vettel soldiered at the head of the field with just one stop to his name, although it was marginal as to whether he would emerge ahead of Grosjean when he finally did come in for a second time.
But Webber’s pace was not looking sufficiently rapid to suggest a three-stop strategy was the better route rather than a two.
Whoever had got their sums right, at least the diverse plans looked like setting up a grandstand finale.
‘Box, box, box,’ came the message to Vettel at the end of lap 37, the German not having built up enough of a gap to re-join ahead of Grosjean.
‘That’s Grosjean ahead of you said,’ Vettel’s race engineer, Guillaume 'Rocky' Roquelin. ‘Go get him.’ By lap 41 the Lotus resistance was over and the focus switched to what Webber could do on fresh rubber in the closing stages as his three-stop strategy played out.
In came Webber with 11 laps remaining to reel in his teammate - a straight fight as with Alonso in fifth the world title was not on the table.

Leaders: Romain Grosjean tries to hold off Mark Webber and Vettel

Gaining at a rate of knots, clearing Grosjean took longer than Webber would have liked. A big chance was blown on lap 46 when Grosjean resisted a DRS move down the start/finish straight. It was the same story on the following lap as the race swung heavily in the direction of Vettel.
With the benefit of Webber’s option tyres now exhausted, the attempts to pass Grosjean became increasingly desperate, the Australian finally getting the job done with two laps remaining.
The move was five laps too late, however, Vettel having stretched his advantage to an unassailable nine seconds.
The title may have to wait, but on an afternoon where Webber was given every chance to beat his team-mate fair and square, Vettel emphatically demonstrated who rules the roost at Red Bull.

A brilliant drive from Vettel as he becomes only the sixth driver in F1 history to win five races on the spin joining Nigel Mansell, Jack Brabham, Michael Schumacher, Alberto Ascari and Jimmy Clark.

08:31

SEBASTIAN VETTEL WINS THE JAPANESE GRAND PRIX
It's the Red Bull driver's ninth win of the season as Webber finishes in P2 and Grosjean completes the podium. Alonso finishes fourth which means the world championship battle continues into the next round at least.

08:30

LAP 53
Sebastian Vettel starts his final lap of the Japanese Grand Prix with victory No 5 on the spin seemingly moments away...

08:29

LAP 52
And the answer is 'no'. Webber sizes up Grosjean on the pit-straight before nailing the Lotus into Turn One. A brave, brave fight from Grosjean but ultimately the quicker Red Bull prevailed. And what a move that is from Raikkonen around the outside of Hulkenberg at the chicane. He's up to P5.

08:28

LAP 51
Webber and Grosejan are wheel-to-wheel through Spoon but the Lotus driver holds off the Australian challenge. Can Grosjean cling on to this second place?

08:27

LAP 50
Grosjean and Webber make their way past the first backmarker of Pastor Maldonado. Meanwhile, Hulkenberg locks up at the chicane giving Raikkonen a chance of overtaking the fifth-placed Sauber.

08:25

LAP 49
Webber lines up Grosjean, but still can't find his way past the Lotus driver. The pair are closing in on a whole bunch of backmarkers, too.

08:26

LAP 48
You have to doth your hat to Vettel. He's spent most of this race behind Webber and Grosjean but now, barring a catastrophe, is set to beat both of them.

08:24

LAP 47
This is an impressive defensive drive from Grosejan who is really staking his claim to lead this Lotus team in Raikkonen's absence next year.

08:22

LAP 46
Webber is losing time behind Grosjean and is now over seven seconds adrift of his Red Bull team-mate. It looks as though Vettel is heading for his fifth consecutive victory.

08:22

LAP 45
Alonso passes Hulkenberg on the pit-straight to move up to fourth place. Meanwhile, Webber is now all over the back of Grosjean.

08:18

LAP 44
Should Vettel retain the lead of this race, and Alonso finish fifth, then the German will have a 92-point lead over the Spaniard. Remember he needs to be 100 clear to wrap up title No 4.

08:15

LAP 43
Perez is in the pits after suffering a left-rear puncture following a collision with Rosberg at the chicane. 'Check my front wing. Check my front,' says Rosberg.

08:14

LAP 42
In comes Webber for his final stop of the afternoon. The Red Bull driver is stationary for 2.7 seconds after taking on the softer tyre. Vettel takes the lead of the Japanese Grand Prix with Grosjean now the meat in a Red Bull sandwich.

08:11

LAP 41
And there it is. Vettel lines up the Lotus driver on the pit-straight before sailing past Grosjean to take P2. The German is now 14.6 seconds behind Webber with 11 laps remaining. When will Webber pit again?

08:11

LAP 40
'Towards the end of the race you will come under pressure from Mark so remember to look after your tyres,' Vettel is told. The German is just three tenths behind Grosjean now. Surely it is only a matter of time now. Webber is 14 seconds ahead of the battling duo.

08:08

LAP 39
Vettel is lighting up the timesheets here, and is rapidly closing in on the back of Grosjean.

08:07

LAP 38
Hamilton: 'We were really unlucky and I feel bad for my guys because they woked so hard. Perfomance wise we deserve better, and I probably had the best start I have had all year.'

08:06

LAP 37
Vettel is finally in for his final stop of the afternoon. The German takes on a spanking new set of hard tyres. 'That's Grosjean in front. Now go and get him,' is the instruction from his race engineer. We've really got a race on our hands here.

08:03

LAP 36
'It's not over yet,' Webber is told. The Australian is closing in on Vettel but is only 12 seconds ahead of Grosjean... and he will need to pit again. How much further can Vettel go on these tyres? It's 22 laps since his last stop.

08:03

LAP 35
In comes Massa for his drive-through penalty and he exits the pit-lane down in P11. There is still an opportunity for some minor points, but that mistake for speeding in the pits has blown his chances of scoring heavily.

08:00

LAP 34
And that's a drive-through penalty for Massa. 'You're pace is good so look after the rear tyres,' is the message to Grosjean. The Lotus man is quicker than Vettel at this point in the race.

Out: Giedo van der Garde crashes out of the race - AP Photo/Shuji Kajiyama

07:59

LAP 33
Vettel crosses the line and is 10 seconds ahead of Webber and 20 ahead of Grosjean. How much further can the triple world champion go?

07:59

LAP 32
Ricciardo is handed a drive-through penalty for overtaking Di Resta off track at 130R. Meanwhile, Massa is under investigation for speeding in the pit-lane.

07:56

LAP 31
Problems for Perez in the pit-lane as his right-rear wheel is stuck on his McLaren. Still no sign of Vettel, who is 11 seconds clear of Webber, pitting.

07:56

LAP 30
Vettel remains out on track. Remember he pitted a few laps later than both Webber and Grosjean during the first round of pit-stops. Webber is now eight seconds ahead of Grosjean. He'll need around 22 seconds if he has to pit again.

07:53

LAP 29
Grosjean is in for his second stop of the afternoon and Webber leapfrogs the Frenchman. Surely Webber will have to stop again whereas Grosjean should be able to get to the end of the race on this set of tyres.

07:53

LAP 28
'Put pressure on Grosjean. Put pressure on Grosjean,' Vettel is told and the Lotus man will have to raise his game here. The Red Bull driver is now one second down on the Frenchman.

07:50

LAP 27
The gap between Grosjean and Vettel is now less than two seconds as we see Ricciardo run wide at 130R.

07:48

LAP 26
Nope. Grosjean stays out, but Vettel is now only 2.3 seconds down on the Lotus man. Vettel has turned up the wick here, and is told 'We're not racing Mark, we're racing Grosjean.'

07:46

LAP 25
We're looking at a three-stop race here, as Red Bull blink first and bring Webber in for his second stop of the afternoon. Surely Lotus will react and haul Grosjean in on the following lap.

07:45

LAP 24
Vettel is told his pace is 'good', and not to go 'bananas' with Webber closing in on Grosjean.

07:45

LAP 23
Webber has been given the hurry-up by Red Bull and the Australian is now just six tenths behind Grosjean as we approach half-distance of the Japanese GP.

07:42

LAP 22
Ricciardo is finally in the pits, taking on the prime tyre. Alonso closes in on the back of Hulkenberg who is now running in P4. It is Grosjean who leads from Webber, Vettel, Hulkenberg, Alonso, Massa, Raikkonen, Gutierrez, Perez and Rosberg who has just made his way past Button.

07:41

LAP 21
Job done. Hulkenberg takes Ricciardo at 130R, and Alonso tries to take the Toro Rosso man, too at the chicane but he has to get out of it, and Massa almost runs into the back of his team-mate. Wow. That was close.

07:37

LAP 20
Alonso makes his way past Massa on the pit-straight to move up to P6. Next up is Hulkenberg, who still can't find a way past Ricciardo. The Toro Rosso driver was three seconds slower than third-placed Vettel on that last lap.

07:36

LAP 19
A hefty training is forming behind Ricciardo with Hulkenberg, Massa Alonso, Gutierrez and Raikkonen forming a not-so-orderly queue.

07:36

LAP 18
You can see from this picture of the start how Hamilton attempted to squeeze his way past both Red Bulls off the start-line. A bold move, but one which ultimately ended in retirement.

AFP/Getty Images

07:33

LAP 17
'You can just sit there for a while,' is the message to Vettel, who is 3.5 seconds adrift of race-leader Grosjean. Hulkenberg is enjoying another stellar afternoon. The Sauber driver is fifth and crawling all over the back of Ricciardo's Toro Rosso gearbox.

07:32

LAP 16
The Toro Rosso driver of Daniel Ricciardo is the only driver not to have pitted yet this afternoon after starting on the hard tyre. He is fourth. In comes Rosberg for his drive-through penalty. He comes back out in a lowly 12th place.

07:30

LAP 15
Rosberg will serve a drive-through penalty after he was released into the path of Perez during his first stop. This is turning into a disastrous afternoon for Mercedes following Hamilton's earlier retirement.

07:28

LAP 14
A 2.5second stop for Vettel, but he leaves the pit-lane behind Grosjean and Webber. Grosjean posts another fastest lap of the race. Webber is 1.5 seconds adrift of the Lotus driver.

07:27

LAP 13
Vettel remains out on track, but here is Alonso is in for his first stop of the afternoon. Yet the Spaniard comes out behind Massa AND Hulkenberg. That hasn't worked out well for the Ferrari man.

07:26

LAP 12
Race-leader Grosejan is in the pit-lane promoting Sebastian Vettel into the lead. Smooth-sailing in the pits as the Frenchman comes out ahead of Webber. Meanwhile, Mercedes may come under investigation for an unsafe release after Sergio Perez is forced to take evasive action as Rosberg exits his pit marks directly in front of the McLaren.

07:23

LAP 11
Mark Webber, Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen are all in the pits for their first round of stops. Grosjean remains out and Vettel is up to P2, four or so seconds down on the leader.

07:22

LAP 10
'Engine 21' not 'Multi 21' is the message to Webber, who runs in second place. Nico Hulkenberg comes into the pits for his first stop of the afternoon which promotes Raikkonen to P8. Grosejan is now three seconds clear of Webber with Vettel beginning to close in on his team-mate.

07:20

LAP 9
Rosberg runs wide which allows the Ferrari duo of Massa and Alonso to close on the back of his Mercedes. Alonso is STILL looking for a way past Massa with the latter seemingly reluctant to make it easy for the No 1 man at Ferrari. Grosjean meanwhile, still leads the Japanese Grand Prix.

07:18

LAP 8
'Strategy A' is the message to Massa. Does that mean 'move over and let Alonso past'? Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton has RETIRED from today's grand prix with damage to the floor of his Mercedes after that incident with Vettel.

07:16

LAP 7
Fernando Alonso is just three tenths behind his team-mate Felipe Massa who is running in fifth. No team orders at Ferrari it would seem, and we must remember that the Brazilian is racing for his F1 future after being replaced by Raikkonen for 2014.

07:15

LAP 6
Fastest lap of the race from leader Grosejan as his Lotus team-mate Raikkonen passes Button to move up to P10.

07:14

LAP 5
'It looks like we are missing some are performance, and we are a second down,' Hamilton is told. He responds by saying 'the car is all over the place.' Nightmare stuff for the Mercedes man who was lightning quick off the grid - such an unfortunate incident. Vettel is having a scruffy start to the race. He runs wide, kicks up some gravel and loses a second or two.

07:11

LAP 4
Hamilton is told to run until lap 19, but he is plum last. Up front and Webber is nine tenths adrift of Grosjean while Vettel is a further 1.4 seconds behind the Australian. Alonso made two places off the start-line, and is up to P6. Raikkonen however, who has started every race behind team-mate Grosejean since signing for Ferrari, is down in P11.

07:09

LAP 3
OK. We've seen a replay of the start. The quick-starting Hamilton tried to squeeze between both Red Bulls off the start line but made contact with the front left of Vettel's RB9 causing an immediate puncture. Despite reporting an issue with his front wing. Vettel stays out. He currently runs in third.

LAP 2
Lewis Hamilton exits the pits after taking on a new set of boots. It's Grosjean who maintains the lead, but Webber is sniffing the Lotus gearbox and is just sixth tenths down. Meanwhile, Van Der Garde and Bianchi are out of the race after a collision at Turn One. The stewards will investigate the incident.

LAP 1
Wow. What a start from Romain Grosjean who LEADS the Japanese Grand Prix. But Lewis Hamilton is in trouble. The Mercedes man has a right-rear puncture and Vettel, in third, is reporting front-wing damage. Did they touch? We'll have to wait until we see the replay.

Here we go...
Webber leads the pack away for the parade lap, and we're just moments away from the start of today's race. Vettel is 77 points ahead of Alonso. He must extend that lead to a ton to secure the 2013 title. Will he do it? The start will be key...

So, with five minutes to go until the start of today's race, let me give you a run down on the top 10: Webber starts from pole ahead of Vettel, Hamilton, Grosjean, Massa, Rosberg, Hulkenberg, Alonso, Raikkonen and Button.

Mercedes chief and three-times champion Niki Lauda is asked if his drivers Lewis Hamilton, who starts in third, and sixth-placed Nico Rosberg can challenge the Red Bulls today. 'I am afraid not,' is his frank assessment. 'Vettel is the big threat I think. The Red Bulls will disappear.' Asked for his opinions on Vettel who stands on the brink of his fourth straight title, Lauda adds: 'This is for me the most incredible thing. What did we do wrong in the past?'

The Formula One paddock was stunned on Friday when news of Maria De Villota's death filtered through from Spain. De Villota's body was discovered at a Seville hotel just 15 months after surviving her life-threatening crash at Duxford Aerodrome. Ahead of today's race, the F1 fraternity held a one-minute silence in her memory.

History in the making
Vettel will become only the third driver in the history of Formula One to win four championships on the spin. The German follows in the footsteps of Juan Manuel Fangio and compatriot Michael Schumacher - but while Fangio was 46 years and 41 days when he sealed his fourth title on the spin, and Schumacher was 35 years and 239 days, should Vettel wrap up title No 4 today he will be only 26 years and 41 days. No wonder he's smiling...

The drivers make their way from the pit-lane to the grid in front of packed grandstands at a sunny Suzuka. The Japanese public really do love their Formula One, and they have turned up in their droves throughout the weekend.

Will Vettel get the business done today?
It really is a matter of when, not if, Vettel will secure his fourth championship on the spin - a remarkable achievement from a remarkable talent. He's pretty good round these parts, too winning three of the last four races in Japan. But he has NEVER tasted victory in five straight races. After wins in Belgium, Italy, Singapore and Korea, will the German see the chequered flag first today? I'd love to hear your predictions...

Mark Webber starts on pole
But the German will start behind his Red Bull team-mate Webber for the first time this season after the Australian clinched pole position. Webber capitalised on a KERS-less Vettel to get the better of his younger team-mate, starting his final grand prix at Suzuka from the front of the pack.

Good morning, petrol heads, and welcome to our coverage of today's Japanese Grand Prix
Well done. You've made it. The alarm has sounded, and you're up (and potentially out of bed) for what could be a title-deciding race at Suzuka. Sebastian Vettel must win, with Fernando Alonso finishing ninth or lower for that to happen.
