Hardcore Holly was simply supposed to be another victim in Brock Lesnar’s reign of terror on SmackDown in 2002, but Hardcore Holly took exception to this.
Working a stiff style and making it difficult for Brock to complete the intended moves, he ended up with a ruptured disc in his neck, which kept him out of action for a year.
You reap what you sow.

Shawn Michaels was involved in a feud with the Undertaker towards the beginning of 1998, leading to a casket match between the two at the Royal Rumble.
It was in this match that Shawn Michaels suffered two herniated discs and a completely crushed disc in his back. He had a final match at WrestleMania where he handed the torch to Steve Austin and was thought to have retired.
However, he recovered enough to return to what he loved and began wrestling again in 2002.

Watch ‘The Rise and Fall of ECW’ and I guarantee you will gain a lot of respect for the company.
You will also see an in-depth look at Sabu’s broken neck.
When facing Chris Benoit, Sabu was thrown but landed extremely awkwardly—on his neck.
This kept the suicidal maniac away from ECW for a time and while it was the first time he broke his neck, it was not the last.
He also broke it in a match against Tazz, where a Tazzplex was to blame for the injury.

In what is probably one of the most famous broken bones in history, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin broke his neck in a match against Owen Hart at SummerSlam 1997.
Steve Austin proved he was the “toughest S.O.B in the WWF” when he finished the match with a roll-up pin.
This nearly ended his career.

A spike piledriver saw Tazz break his neck at an ECW event.
It is well documented that Tazz then walked all the way to the hospital to get his neck looked at.
The doctors looked at him in amazement as they could not fathom how he could even stand, let alone walk to the hospital, with a broken neck.

Hayabusa went for a Lionsault only to slip on the second rope and land on his neck.
The slow-motion video shows how his neck snaps back.
This ended the career of Hayabusa.
He was paralysed, but has made significant progress since the incident and is now able to walk without an aid.

Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair.
Both men left it all in the middle of the ring and this video proves it.
Shawn Michaels went for a Moonsault, but landed with a sickening thud on the announce table.
He broke his ribs from this spectacular manoeuvre, yet he still finished the match, which was awarded Match of the Year by PWI (Pro Wrestling Illustrated)

In a four-way ladder match with the Hardy Boyz, Paul London & Brian Kendrick and William Regal & David Taylor at Armageddon 2006, Joey was involved in a spot that saw a ladder inadvertently crush his face.
As blood began to spew everywhere, he was rushed to the back, where it was found he had broken his nose and required many stitches.
It just shows what would happen in these extreme matches if the superstars were actually intending to hurt each other.

This is by far the most grotesque video on the list and deserves its place at the top. When Sid Vicious went for an Big Boot from the top rope while wrestling for WCW, he landed weirdly and snapped his leg in half.

Ouch.
