Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor Reportedly in 'Early Fall' Fight Talks

AP, 8 JUN 2017.

.
Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are in talks for a fight with a target date in early fall, Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday 8 June 2017.

According to Pugmire, UFC's ownership group and Mayweather's manager, Al Haymon, are leading the discussions.

UFC President Dana White is reportedly not part of the negotiations, but he said in May on TNT's Inside the NBA (via MMAFighting.com) that McGregor's side of the deal was done.

No such declaration has been made publicly regarding Mayweather, but the 40-year-old veteran recently said on DJ Whoo Kid's Whoolwood Shuffle on SiriusXM (via MMAWeekly.com) that he was hopeful an agreement could be made:

"I mean, once I get back to Las Vegas, to my hub, we'll find out how everything plays out. I'll communicate with Al. I'll communicate with Leonard Ellerbe. We'll sit down and see what we can come up with and hopefully the McGregor fight can be made."

Mayweather is a perfect 49-0 as a boxer, but he has been retired since defeating Andre Berto in September 2015.

Although the 28-year-old McGregor is 21-3 in MMA and is the reigning UFC lightweight champion, he has no experience as a professional boxer.

Floyd Mayweather Retracts 26 Aug. Date Reserved for Conor McGregor Super Fight

Floyd Mayweather might be as good at trolling as he is at boxing.

Not long after Mayweather Promotions proposed a date of Aug. 26 for MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada — expected to mark the time and space for his Conor McGregor super fight — Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) brings word that “Money” has since retracted that request.

That’s according to a report from L.A. Times.

Unfortunately for combat sports fans who are clamoring for Mayweather-McGregor, there doesn’t seem to be any real progress being made behind the scenes, despite the best efforts of UFC President Dana White.

Time to rethink those percentages.

That hasn’t stopped mainstream media outlets (present company included) from reporting every worthless detail, but we still have nothing concrete as far as “when” and “where” these two will bang.

I guess that BIG announcement will have to wait.

McGregor hasn’t competed since last November’s shellacking over Eddie Alvarez in New York. Mayweather, meanwhile, retired from the “sweet science” following his unanimous decision win over Andre Berto back in late 2015.

Then again, any time “Money” is involved, you never know what to believe.

Conor McGregor v Floyd Mayweather Fight a $200 Million Dollar Con Job

The Super Fight WILL Happen on 26 August in Vegas.

Let’s call the just announced Conor McGregor/Floyd Mayweather fight the scam of the century. Even Bernie Madoff might blush at such daylight robbery.

$200 million is what suckers will allegedly pay out to watch Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, AKA the Wife Beater, do battle on 26 August in Vegas. It is the greatest con since Madoff almost ruined Wall Street.

This fight has all the significance of a fart in a hurricane and just as much impact. McGregor has as much chance as a jackass in the Kentucky Derby.

.

Worse, his opponent is a domestic abuser and violent man outside the ring too. He deserves no respect.

Mayweather is a thug and a woman beater. Seven times he has been cited or arrested for committing violence on women. When he found texts from another man on his ex-wife's phone he went to her place and attacked her.

He punched her repeatedly, pulled her off a couch by her hair and twisted her arm. Her son was able to call the police which, she says, saved her from being killed.

On International Women's Day, a protest was held against the Marriott Hotel for hosting boxer Floyd Mayweather for an event...

As Deadspin.com noted: “Floyd Mayweather’s history of misogyny, expressed—as he is wont to do—through violence, is well-documented and reprehensible. It extends over a dozen years and includes at least seven separate physical assaults on five different women that resulted in arrest or citation, as well as several other instances where the police had to be summoned in response to an actual or perceived threat from Mayweather.”

Don’t worry folks, you won’t hear about any of that sordid stuff when the build-up to the fight begins. There is money to be made, oodles of it.

Both men will earn more than three times Lebron James’ yearly salary of $30.1 million for a single 12 round fight.

Into the bargain add that McGregor may get badly hurt. He once stated that those who hated him “pay their hard-earned money in the hope to one day seeing me face down in a pool of my own blood.” I fear they will get their wish on August 26.

'The Notorious' deserves an A-Plus from Trump University for hype and hollering in pursuit of his enormous pay day. The Mouth of the South of Ireland has no peer when it comes to selling himself and good luck to him.

But as for defeating the Wife Beater, also the best pound-for-pound boxer of the last decade? He will be lucky to survive a round. Mayweather has an opportunity to improve his record to 50-0, surpassing the great Rocky Marciano’s 49-0, and with what will be one of the easiest fights of his life.

Why will it be as one-sided? Well imagine Tiger Woods in his prime being asked to guard Michael Jordan in his prime in a basketball game – two great athletes, two different sports.

McGregor is Woods in that scenario. He is a great athlete, but he is not a boxer of any stature. He first started boxing as an amateur in Dublin and gave up to pursue a plumbing career until MMA came along. His boxing career was in the toilet, but MMA revived it. MMA resembles boxing only as a jackass resembles a thoroughbred racehorse.

There will be no leg kicks or choke holds or round kicks or double leg take-downs. There will just be fists.

Mayweather has been knocked down just once in his career by fighters with many times McGregor’s punching power. The Notorious will be flailing at the air against the greatest counter-puncher boxing has ever known.

No dear, gullible patrons there will be no fairytale of Las Vegas. McGregor will lose this fight easily and the Wife Beater will carry on, more famous and obnoxious than ever and the suckers will go home wondering what just happened.

Mayweather in one.

Floyd Mayweather will take to the ring in some style on Saturday night with the American planning to sport a designer black and gold robe as he walks out to face Conor McGregor.

Mayweather is putting the finishing touches on his preparations for the bout against McGregor and was spotted trying out some snazzy pre-fight attire as he gears up for the showdown in Las Vegas.

Mayweather looked relaxed as he wore the robe on Friday, just hours ahead of his money-spinning mega fight against the UFC man.

The 40-year-old posed for a photo with the man behind the robe, German fashion designer Philipp Plein.
Plein and Mayweather have collaborated to produce the robe and the boxer seemed happy with the final product as he tried it out at the luxury designer's store in Las Vegas.

Mayweather's entire entourage will also be clad in Phillip Plein attire as they join him at the T-Mobile Arena ahead of the fight.

His opponent McGregor has also had a robe custom made for Saturday night's bout - the Irishman's is produced by Italian designer Donatella Versace.

The American boasts a 49-0 record - his opponent McGregor has never boxed professionally

McGregor unveiled the design earlier this month as he posed in the robe for a photo posted to his Instagram account.

His robe, which shares a similar colour scheme to Mayweather's, came complete with a 'McGregor. The Notorious' motif sewed in to the back.

The two fighters came face-to-face on Friday night at the weigh-in - both were under the 154lbs super-welterweight limit - Mayweather at 149lbs and McGregor at 153lbs.

Mayweather goaded his opponent, telling him it would be both his first and last boxing fight while McGregor responded by roaring into the American's face.

One man who is backing McGregor to cause a sensational upset is Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Red Devils striker said: '[McGregor] is the Ibrahimovic of martial arts and I'm McGregor of the football world. So I see him with his confidence.

He will win, because he believes in himself so much and like I say, in everything you do the mental part is 50 per cent.
'If you have the mental, the head, you can do it and achieve, and then at the same time he's skilful, he is the one he is. So I believe in Conor.'

Dana White has estimated that Floyd Mayweather will earn around $15 million (Ł12 million) more than Conor McGregor from their mega-fight.
‘And if the fight sells as well as I think it can, Floyd makes a little north of ($100) million and Conor makes $75 (million).'

Floyd Mayweather has defeated Conor McGregor in a TKO in Round 10 after the two men squared off in what was billed as the Fight of the Century in the highly anticipated and Hollywood-studded fight in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

After winning his 50th undefeated match, Mayweather swore it would be his last fight ever as the 40-year-old made off with the coveted 'Money Belt' and at least $100million for his night’s work.

The two super-welterweight fighters had been preparing for the big boxing match for months and the event generated hype as the world waited to see who would become boxing's undisputed king.

The audience was packed with 20,000 ravenous fans at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with private jets ferrying celebrities into Sin City as bets worth more than a million dollars were placed on the match. But 5,000 seats were empty and remained unsold.

Some of those A-listers who took their seats ringside were Bruce Willis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lopez, Vanessa Hudgens, Demi Lovato and LeBron James, all spotted eagerly waiting for the big fight.

The money-spinning showdown is likely to break all records and surpass the $600million generated by Mayweather's fight with Manny Pacquiao in 2015.

Before his loss, McGregor made his ring walk with an Irish flag draped over his shoulders. He pumped his fists in the air to the crowd, which cheered loudly.

McGregor’s handlers held aloft his UFC title belts after he got into the ring for his first pro boxing match.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., meanwhile got a bit theatrical, wearing what looks like a ski mask under an oversized hat. He was greeted with a mixture of cheers and boos.

The odds at fight time favored Mayweather by about a 5-1 margin.

McGregor came sporting a shorter haircut than he had in the days leading up to the fight, with his girlfriend behind him pushing their 3-month-old baby in a stroller.

McGregor was calm and confident in his televised pre-fight interview, telling Showtime's Jim Gray that he would 'paint a beautiful picture' in his fight against heavily favored Mayweather.

He was subdued in the interview, and he was still wearing a dress shirt, tie and vest, even though his hands were already wrapped about an hour before the start of the bout.

'I'm going to go out and be myself — free, spontaneous, creative — and paint a beautiful picture,' he said. 'I see me truly outclassing this man and putting him to sleep.'

McGregor said he thought he weighed 'about 170' pounds after rehydrating from Friday's weigh-in, where he was 153. Mayweather weighed in at 149 ˝.

Mayweather is guaranteed $100million for his night's work, and could make double that if the pay-per-view buys are strong as expected. McGregor's guarantee with the Nevada State Athletic Commission is $30million.

There were two more fights on the under card before the main event begins. There will also be two national anthems, with the U.S. version sung by Demi Lovato and the Irish anthem by Imelda May.

Promoters had nearly 5,000 tickets still to sell on fight day at prices ranging from $2,500 to $10,000.

The fight is expected to set records on pay-per-view, with some 5 million homes buying at $99.95. The main event is expected to begin about 9pm local time.

The big money continued rolling in just before fight time at this city's sports books, with several million-dollar bets on Floyd Mayweather Jr. to beat Conor McGregor.

Bookies had faced taking a big loss because McGregor tickets outnumbered Mayweather tickets by as much as 18-1 at some books. But the big bets started coming in Thursday on Mayweather and at the William Hill chain of sports books 74 percent of the money on straight bets was on Mayweather.

There were a handful of million-dollar bets on Mayweather, with three coming in just hours before the fight. The biggest reported bet on McGregor is $100,000.

Bookmakers say they still will post a big loss should McGregor beat Mayweather, especially if he stops him early. If Mayweather wins, though, it will be a big score by the sports books.

Mayweather was minus 600 at William Hill, down from 11-1 when the fight was announced.

The fight is shaping up to be the biggest bet fight ever, breaking the mark of about $50 million set in Mayweather's win over Manny Pacquiao in 2015.
The men will not be fighting for a major boxing title when they meet in the ring, but that has not stopped the pair from creating their very own belt.

Mayweather was a five-division world champion in his pomp but gave up his welterweight title after retiring in September 2015.

McGregor also lays claim to the UFC lightweight belt, but the biggest fight of all time will not see a title change hands.

The specially made 'Money Belt', however, will be up for grabs. The stunning accessory was revealed in Las Vegas on Wednesday as the pair spoke with the press for the final time before their bout on Saturday evening.

Made with alligator skin from Italy, the belt boasts an alleged 3,360 diamonds, 600 sapphires, 300 emeralds, three pounds of solid, 24-karat gold and was commissioned by World Boxing Organisation president Mauricio Sulaiman.

The gold alone would be worth nearly $60,000 at today's prices, meaning the winner will be getting a nice kicker on top of their huge individual earnings.

Floyd Mayweather Rides a Horse on The Beach as Boxing Legend Continues to Enjoy His Retirement

  • Floyd Mayweather uploaded two videos via his Instagram account on Tuesday
  • The first one shows the 40-year-old riding a horse along a beach
  • The second depicts the boxing legend sitting on top of a dune buggy
Daily Mail UK, 18 Jan 2018.

Mayweather may still be riding on a crest of a wave after defeating Conor McGregor last August, but the retired boxer rode something else on Tuesday.

The undisputed boxing king took his wealth to sunnier climes as he rode a horse along a beach.

Just last week Mayweather reignited his war of words with McGregor after posting an image on his Twitter page claiming the Irishman has a 'bounty on his head'.

The American posted an image containing text: 'Conor McGregor allegedly punched a member of the Irish cartel and may have a €900,000 bounty on his head', as Mayweather captioned the image with 'I already f****d you up in 2017, now they about to f*** you up in 2018'.

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2018/...6181459099.jpg

The UFC star responded within an hour with the short and snappy reply: 'I am the cartel.' ...

The bickering didn't end on Twitter as the two fighters took to Instagram to exchange pictures of each other during their mega-bout last summer.

The 27-year-old McGregor has talked about having a rematch with Mayweather but wants it inside the Octagon after losing their huge Las Vegas boxing showdown back in August.

McGregor's coach revealed the Irishman trains 'almost every day' as he seeks a return to the sport after enjoying some time off following last summer's mega-bout.
